This. A hell of a lot of people that play the game use this site, I think they should have a more active involvement with the forum and just the people that play the game in general. It's not like they're working on the game 24/7 why can't they just take 5 minutes before going home after work to just say what they're currently adding and fixing? Fair enough if they want to keep some items they're adding in the dark for a nice surprise but it'd be nice if we could just see what changes are being made. Topics like that should be well moderated though probably discouraging to see trolls or people who give no kind of helpful feedback or suggestions. We buy this alpha to support the development of the game, test it for the developers and to put their work to good use so I think we deserve a little more info and more regularly than we currently get.

    Soooo about Hardcore

Just as bullshit as the limited vision in first person, not just left and right up and down too TV screens just don't fit how a human sees the world. Hardcore isn't any more realistic just because you can only play in first person one restriction doesn't make stabbing morphine in to your broken leg and fixing it any more legit it's still the same unrealistic game. I can't look over and 8ft wall or round a door in real life but I can hear people moving around or hear them breathing, or I could look under the door. Can I do that in hardcore? No. People are far too hard to see in first person because they so unrealistically blend in with bushes and other things the textures in this game make it way too difficult to discern whether or not somebody is standing in a freaking tree when obviously in real life the branches would part and clothes kind of stand out compared to leaves(ghillie suits are fine with this though) So I like to be able to look over walls because the game is so unrealistically bullshit overall. Plus it's nice being able to avoid groups of KoS bandits as a fresh spawn because all bugs aside they ruin the experience completely. You can't see people who would stand out in real life so no first person is not more realistic, or realistic at all. If it was you'd see your characters nose and most of their body, not just when you look down. All first person is, literally, is looking through a different camera. That it does not accurately convey how a human sees through their eyes makes it not at all realistic.

Yeah I find it happens a lot less if I leave when a server starts saying it has 5 minutes before it restarts, Sometimes it seems like it just hasn't received your character from the main hive yet so it gives you a fresh spawn then you'll die a couple of times and your geared up guy will come back. But other times they never come back and for no clear reason. I think EVERY server should have warning messages for when it's going to shut down, and say clear restart times instead of "every two hours" like you're supposed to know when that will be.

In that case I guess it would be difficult with the shade but it's more the bland colours everything has nothing really stands out but movement, in real life you should be able to notice a scope or gun barrel poking out even though your eyes don't zoom in. There's no kind of realistic detail to the players or the terrain so hardcore mode/first person view isn't any more realistic or authentic really. More of a challenge doesn't make it realistic.

Yeah exactly. Everyone should have the same potential but should not just be the same all the time, unless it turns out since there's a big lack of variation that your character is just a clone then everyone being the same would be legit. I made a topic that was merged in to this namely about classes but we went on to skills in it too, class/profession & skill would be awesome. You can roleplay as a medic all you want but you're still as useless as a fresh spawn at applying a bandage, even if your character has applied thousands so roleplay doesn't cut it it's just fantasy we want actuality. The more you stuff you gather in the game the more efficiently you should be able to pack in to bags, so more slots which is what my idea for a Scavenger class is about you start with more slots, everyone can get to the same point but you can pick that kind of thing as a start bonus. That's what I'd like to be and it gives me no bonus in combat except that maybe I could have more bullets, would still have to train my guys aim up. I really don't see why people are so against it, DayZ becomes a pretty dry experience quickly some actual progression would be nice if your character lives 100 hours you should have something to show for it, not be beaten down by a fresh spawn who knocked you out while you were prone because it takes so long to stand up.

I know someone will probably respond to the guys above with something like "stop whining, it's an alpha! That will get fixed" But I'd like some proof. Why can't they fix it sooner rather than later? I'd rather know for sure that my character is going to stay in the full release or if it's just always going to be an issue. I'm fairly sure 100% of the players would rather they fix that over add a campfire feature in next update. It's the most inconvenient thing in the game at least you can run away from wall phasing zombies. Your character could at least be stored locally until they know why and fix why they get reset, people will hack their character yeah but if it gets too bad suspend them or something I wouldn't care if people could make themselves invincible if my character wouldn't just get reset all the time.

Nice informative reply. How is none of that true? That's imply false "I'm not buying some gadget just to have a human feature in the game" well, that's true my friend I'm not going to. And if people sitting in a window in real life don't stand out to you in broad daylight, you should get your eyes tested. And you can't hear footsteps from realistically far away that is completely true if someone wearing like 50 pounds of gear who has hiking boots runs down a street 20m away you should be able to hear them stomping about but you can't unless they're in the same house as you or within handcuff distance. I would just take third person view as a semi realistic representation of how you could understand your surroundings with your senses, it's still bullshit granted but IRL you wouldn't have to look round walls to see if people were running around nearby you'd hear them moving and you'd hear them talking to their partners. What would be really cool at least in hardcore is if you could sit down and focus your senses, basically just hearing so that you could hear people moving or talking nearby. Sort of like in The Last Of Us but less informative and not looking through walls. Hardcore is still not any more realistic anyway, not that it can't be more of a thrill.

Why wont people play in the night ?

Have you ever played this game, good sir? It is and always will be 99% deathmatch with some zombies and eventually animals running around, KoS will always be around. Why should they be harder? Dead things shouldn't have body heat, at night they should at least have trouble to move. If this terrain is anything like Russia, which it sure looks like it should be damn cold at night fresh spawns should basically die and zombies barely wear any more clothing than them plus it's damaged. When animals get added in wolves and things could hunt at night.

    My ridiculous experience

Ok so I just went to the NE Airfield and some dude with an SKS shot at me, no biggie ran away after firing a couple of shots to tell some guys that didn't shoot me(kudos to them) to watch out and went back. This guy had a friend with nothing but a press vest, not even shoes. Chased me around down to almost Berenzino, with the SKS guy right behind, I was trying to be nice and not kill him but enough was enough. Couldn't shoot him because he could run so fast plus lag, which was annoying. But I did hit him, in the leg with an M4. And then he continues to chase me for like 5 minutes while bleeding... So I take out my fire axe, hit him twice and he still chased me, another axe scuffle and then I shot him in the arm I think with my pistol. Then on the road to Berenzino hit him one more time with the axe and only then did he die. EDIT actually not even sure he did die didn't check, his buddy probably fixed him up and he took my gear which is ludicrous. So I try quickly take his press vest and swap my gear in to it and his buddy I think snipes me in one shot from like over 200m away. What the fuck even happened here? The guy shouldn't have been able to chase me while he was bleeding for like 10 god damn minutes, nevermind the few axe hits I got in to him he should have been done. That's some bullshit right there.

    Soooo about Hardcore

But it still sucks nothing stands out all that well earlier I got killed by a guy in a high rise like 3 times because I just couldn't make out what window he was at, if he moved then it would have been easy sure but in real life a person aiming at you through a broken window is pretty damn easy to see. In DayZ however it is not. It's not so much "hardcore" as it is limited and bullshit. Adjusting your FOV just makes the perspective look broken everything seems freaking tiny. I've long wished for a game where your vision got less and less detailed the further to the edge of your peripherals it got, you can't read a poster on the wall at the edge of your vision but you can see it's there. In any FP game though the whole thing is there so I don't find it "immersive" at all. Plus having to turn completely round to look at things is stupid, I'm not buying some gadget just to have a human feature in the game. First person just makes DayZ unnecessarily hard, realistic my ass. Add to that that you can't hear peoples footsteps or anything until they're right behind you essentially, if your in game senses actually worked to a realistic capacity I'd play hardcore. I just love when people act like this game perfectly mimics real life and that playing hardcore makes you better at the game.

    My ridiculous experience

Are you sure you got hit with every round though? I've played the game about 100 hours now and have never lived being shot more than 4 times from an M4 and just the one shot from an SKS took me down, even though I was fully geared. Wasn't a head shot either because my ballistic helmet would have protected me but I was instantly put unconscious. The health system is so stupid if someone hacks you up with an axe no way can you just run after them. Actually more annoying than the zombies.
  12. UltimateGentleman

    My ridiculous experience

Not that that makes any realistic sense though... Still though I shot him in the leg with an M4 he should not have been running after me as equally fast, especially not since I was healthy it's just ridiculous.

I wish we were forced to interact with others to survive...

Just thought I'd say that I appreciate you finding exploits and reporting them, helps improve the game. Maybe it kind of is cheating to shoot people through walls but we're all testing it anyway so who gives a crap, the more exploits we find the more they get fixed and the game gets better.

    Perks/skills/professions/stats

But you can't "excel" at anything everyone is always at the same level and it just becomes a really dry experience after a while the only thing you can be better than someone at in this game is shooting, which is not difficult at all unless trying to hit someone running around you.
  15. UltimateGentleman

    Perks/skills/professions/stats

Yeah so while you might think being an Infantryman in a group of them is going to give you a huge advantage if any of your guys get injured they're not as immediately effective at healing themselves or anyone else. And with the skill system a group of guys having an advantage in close range gun fights are going to need to survive a lot of battles before their medical skills are up to scratch, so when they get to the point where they're good with guns and supplies, even if they're bandits they deserve the extra efficiency for surviving so long. Obviously people would complain and call this cheating but it makes a lot of realistic sense and realism is what this game is about, plus there'd still be the basic class for people who want to start from the bottom.
  16. Why magazines and not guns? Who has gun magazines but no gun? As someone else said the apocalypse should have been going on for a while and things should have been moved around, NPC survivors should have found and M4 and died in a random place leaving that M4 for a player to find. I don't think they should fully be random but less frequent. "hotzones" as said are necessary for PVP fun, they could have a prison type area(planned I think) which is the ONLY place you can find a riot shotgun, for example. People will camp there for sure but the risk is to make your way through and get an awesome weapon out of it. More guns should be in airfields and military bases, but not so many. Why are M4's even in hangers anyway? Many places you find things don't make a lot of sense. The army should mostly have evacuated or died not left all their guns laying around.

I think it depends on the server settings, some let me spawn in in 30 seconds but it seems like most have it at 200 or more if you're hopping.

How are animals going to work?

Are they just going to spawn in in unlimited amounts like zombies, in specific areas or are there going to be a set amount scattered around the land? I think the latter should be how it works, rather than infinite deer, like 150 maybe. When 64 bit servers are up and working anyway they should be able to handle a lot of animals and run longer without resets so if like 60 players are on for 5 hours most of those deer and all the cans of food around the coast at least will be gone. Would add some actual survival to the game instead of the never ending food supply of spawning animals.
  19. UltimateGentleman

How are animals going to work?

Yeah so you can lead a bear to kill a horde and have that totally backfire on you because zombie animals only attack living entities, so that bear is gonna come right back at you and be able to take more hits. It would be great if it worked like that, and you then create a threat to everyone because that zombie bear or zombie wolf could hunt down all the deer and everyone will starve. It would be so much more fun than just kill zombies and kill hostile animals. Yeah but when they get the going through walls thing fixed I'm sure they're going to make it so they don't go down with one bullet they certainly have more power ups coming so dangerous animals like bears need to wait until everything else is manageable, sadly.
  20. UltimateGentleman

How are animals going to work?

Well, running through walls and making people spray blood with slaps is fairly over powered I'd say... And I mean more like a deer on a hill that far away has no cover bushes and things won't have rendered that much so it would just be too easy if they spawned all the time to the point where if your guy was hungry all you need do is aim at the nearest hill and woop there's a deer that will satisfy their hunger for ages, they should be something of a challenge. "Zombies should attack animals. Imagine a zombie aggroing a small herd of deer causing them to scatter and flee. At some safe distance the herd slowly coalesces back together again. Bears/wolves should attack people and zombies. I'd like to see the ability for instance of a lone player to attract a bear from the woods into donwtown cherno so that it runs amok on all the zombies. If done right, this whole hunting thing is a genius move. Basically we have two games in one, caveat if done right!" Yeah that's something I've talked about too it would be awesome if you could kill a deer, get some meat from it, find a bear and with a knife or something leave a trail of meat to get the bear going in the right direction. Then you could set fire to a big chunk of meat so the bear would smell it and come running, then find a big clan of bandits or something killing people. When there are hoards of zombies it would be better too instead of just a couple here and there, just so that people can't sit on rooftops all day killing fresh spawns.
  21. UltimateGentleman

How are animals going to work?

Well yeah those too but I think things we can get food from are more important right now. I mean you don't want bears chasing you down when zombies are still overpowered right :P I just really hope they're not like zombies that have no spawn limit it will make the game even easier. It'd be cool if they were hard to kill so you and a couple of buddies could coordinate and get deer to run in view of your sniper and then everyone eats venison round a campfire. Instead of just oh look a deer 300m away can't see me, bang, dead in one shot, nom.

    Perks/skills/professions/stats

Yeah but that would be reset with each character and that assumes you have enough ammo to train yourself up so the idea is good but in practice you wouldn't be able to train things up unless your character lived for a very long time, which you should be rewarded for of course but I think being skilled in all areas would be enough of a reward, you'll be able to reload faster than someone who spawned an hour ago and found an M4 even if they're an Infantryman, you've taken a few shots already so your character is also tougher than theirs and you can apply first aid faster. Your not immortal but if you've put the effort in your character shows it. Without the class system as well as skill system it would take too long and you'd have to just keep away from people to survive, lack of interaction in this game is already an issue, that would make it worse on it's own. You can pretend you're a medic or whatever you want as roleplay but even though you're pretending your this doctor guy the only difference is that you have more medical supplies than other people, even though a medic/doctor would use them much better. So roleplaying is good and all but actually being able to have a role that isn't acting would be better in my opinion. Yeah I've developed the idea bit since the first post so not class unique perks just starting skills everyone can have with some effort. Infantryman might think they're the ultimate class to start with, but a Scout can avoid them easily so it's all still balanced and equal it just depends on how you play the game. I think just a skill system would be too slow or unrealistically fast, use a banadage 5 times then you can use it in half a second? Or use a bandage 40 times for that? On it's own a gradual skill system would be too flawed I feel, you and a friend could just safely shoot and heal each other until you're great with an M4 and great at healing yourself.
  23. UltimateGentleman

    Perks/skills/professions/stats

The same as what I mean really. By class I really mean start skill not something you have over every other player who isn't in your class. Infantryman just start good with assault rifles, shotguns and pistols. In all other areas they're just as weak as the other classes, so they have to build up their skills with medical supplies, crafting etc. Basically you just pick what your guy is good at when you spawn, this is more what I mean not like Battlefield where only Support classes can throw down ammo for people. EDIT everyone can get to the point where they're great with guns, using medical supplies and crafting but you have to build those area's up. Not everything needs to be as I described in the OP but something along the same lines would add that nice bit of variety.
  24. UltimateGentleman

I wish we were forced to interact with others to survive...

Yeah but if you shoot that guy, what if he has 20 of the 300 cans of food that spawn in the map? You've just destroyed all that food making it harder for you and everyone else to survive. They need to make it harder as the guy said above it is a walk in the park, a few illnesses and such won't make it all that difficult all you need to do is avoid rain and have plenty charcoal tabs it won't get much harder with minor details like that. It's an incredibly easy game the only thing that makes it difficult is when you find a group of bandits or someone on a hill is sniping you. Or currently if it lags out and you slide off some stairs breaking your legs. Unless they make it harder the end game won't be much different there'll just be a lot more avoidable status effects and stuff all with cures and preventative measures. Food should be really scarce and not last as long as it does currently my character has been alive for like 12 hours and has been running for about 6 of those roughly, all that and all he's had to eat is a can of tactical bacon and the occasional apple I find. Bacon of which I have 4 more cans of along with 3 cans of peaches, 2 of spaghetti and 2 beans. Other than if a player kills me I'm just not going to die because the game is so easy it is by no means hardcore survival.
  25. UltimateGentleman

I wish we were forced to interact with others to survive...

Making it actually difficult to survive would be a step in the right direction. In real life in this situation? Screw you, if I see you I'm keeping away or shooting you, you probably have what I need namely food. I'm not limited to one area, I can go explore and find more food than I could ever eat. But DayZ, limited supply and borders. There should be a lot less food so you should have to consider talking to some guy strolling down the street instead of just killing him, because you probably won't be able to carry all the food he has, run out of yours and starve to death. Then you and that guy after a successful trade might think "Y'know what, how about we team up? Two people can cover twice the area, finding twice the food" Being a lone wolf is just incredibly easy some houses ALWAYS have food unless people have taken it already. When they get 64 bit servers up maybe we could have ones that only need reset after 5 or even 6 hours? By that point, especially with more players in the server most if not all of the food should have been collected. So you're going to want to not shoot everyone you see since you'll probably ruin their food and starve to death.
