Pretty funny but would have been better if you went through the actual town between the buildings, now that would be a risk :P
-
In third person? It's a lot easier in first, in third you aim at their head but the axe actually hits their shoulder most of the time. And then there's some zombies that just keep getting up...
-
Firstly I made this thread so it has more detail in it -> http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/192233-1-bullet-everything-in-backpack-destroyed/ Right now if you get shot by one bullet, just one single bullet, absolutely everything in your backpack can be destroyed. Same with anywhere else on your character, a zombie can slap you once and wreck your pants and everything in them even though they don't aim there. I think a probability should be added to the game where in which one bullet hitting your backpack has a random chance to destroy 1-3 random items rather than everything. It makes no sense and it makes the game overly difficult. The game shouldn't be easy of course but if some less-than-respectable dude shoots you, a nice guy, from out of nowhere but you manage to win the fight there is almost a 100% chance that your morphine, bandages, rags and sticks are all ruined so even though you killed the person who started the fight they still win, you can't loot them for healing supplies either as all their stuff is ruined too. So it's really unreasonable right now. I think this is something that should be added quite soon, the probability mechanic that is. Everything being destroyed should be left for hardcore, perhaps.

Well with the fire axe you just need a straight headshot, it's just awkward with the hitboxes the damage itself isn't....too bad I guess, could be better. Anyway I'm pretty sure it's just the same, I hope they add that feature soon. I mean I'm sure tons of people will call it unfair and cheating but you still have to use one gun at a time and have a weapon out all the time, so anyone else can just run away easily and there's a good chance of mowing them down because they have their mosin instead of their M4. So it's not "game breaking" as some people describe, the game is supposed to be realistic(not that having weapons float on your back is)
-
I wish they would just fix the zombies fully instead of bit by bit like yay they can come up stairs and still walk through doors to murder us now, going through walls should have been the first thing fixed not going upstairs. Like the only way you can escape them is if you're fast enough to get in and go up, provided stairs are to the side because they're too stupid to do anything that isn't go straight at you and just try get you from the room below.
-
Why will they be? No way will they not be able to hold multiple people, and if people can shoot at them they should be able to shoot back else it's just stupid. Just because shooting them worked in the mod doesn't mean they'll have it work the same in the SA, plus you have the issues with lag and such hitting them would be highly based on luck while they can just rain down fire upon you until you keel over. @topic, It doesn't matter if they are "rare" clans will just spawn in right where helicopters show up and take them just to go kill people, unless the fuel etc for them stays on the server itself then they can just have one guy with fuel and parts and go on a rampage. They really make no sense to add as said it's not a PVP game. The single good thing about them being added would be watching people crash and burn while they're extremely glitchy. Also what if people find ways to cheat and make fuel canisters last forever or something, there's bound to be some kind of loophole they can abuse. Bandits are terrible enough as it is don't give them air superiority. MAYBE some heroes would take heli's and kill bandits, but the ratio of heroes to bandits is like 1:500.
-
I don't really see the point in adding them, it's supposed to be a survival game being able to go to every single town in minutes and get all the food is just stupid. I think cars and bikes should be enough helicopters just don't really fit in, plus you would like never get to use them every asshole would camp round them and shoot you the second you got near. They only really work for large scale battles which are hardly common. It would be cool to set up 20 vs 20 or more clan battles using them...but that's about it. Other than that, can you imagine how shit it would be for fresh spawns? clans would just fly over the coast in helicopters murdering everything that moves, fresh spawn killing is a big enough problem why enable them to be many times more efficient in it while at the same time giving the fresh spawn literally no chance. Out in the open, gunned down. Hide anywhere, heli lands and the clan takes you out effortlessly. So no I don't think they need to be added, unless they have specified "battle" hives with more guns and whatnot for exclusively PVP.

How could we deal with hackers?
UltimateGentleman replied to UltimateGentleman's topic in General Discussion
Now this is giving them too much credit, just because they can hack stuff in the game doesn't mean they can do all that. Why would hacking geniuses waste their time playing this game? Maybe some do but I highly doubt there's more than a few, if any. An active admin on a private server that you have to buy in to is probably the easiest option, admins can be on 24/7 if they're employed to be there doesn't need to be only one admin per server. Provided the servers could hold like at least 100 people easily anyway. Given a monthly wage then if an admin starts doing things they shouldn't, no money at the end of the month so that would basically eliminate them being assholes. I certainly wouldn't mind paying a few pounds each month to have a reliable server that isn't full of douchebags. -

Still though I think people renting a server should be obligated to act as an admin and kick people for bad behaviour. Also I guess BattleEye could have actual rules? How many times have you went on a "friendly no KOS" server and been gunned down? If you're renting a server PVP should be something you can put off, for example. BattleEye or just the game in general. I'm not sure it could ever be so sophisticated that it completely negates any cheating though. It would have to map and monitor the whole land to tell if someone is in a wall when they obviously shouldn't be, so I think player solutions with the right idea could work just...which ones. -
Yeah couldn't have put it better. I'm ok with the backpack itself being ruined with a few rounds, since I doubt it would be easy to make it so a bullet hole can be over every inch of the thing but the actual stuff inside should have security in the form of probability. It would also add some legitimacy to KoS since you can actually kill for people's supplies not just to be an asshole, but the exact thing you want still has a good chance of being destroyed so it's not too bad or too good a situation for anyone there'd be a nice balance to the game with this.
-
Not specifically gravel but things to cover your stuff with. What gravel are you talking about anyway that's not in the game :P stones are going to be necessary for building a campfire, I'd imagine so having them get ruined is still bad. And it also just reduces the risk not negates it completely your pistol or whatever you really need in your backpack can still easily be one of the things ruined.
-
So a bullshit mechanic that makes no sense is better? This game is about authenticity/realism one bullet destroying all your gear is in no way realistic even if it didn't get stopped a bullet wouldn't have enough energy to ricochet around and wreck everything so there is not logical explanation to more than a couple of things being slightly damaged or destroyed. As I said anyway if your backpack has 40 slots and 20 of them are filled with misc stuff, then you only have 20 for useful items against a group of guys you have little to no chance. Plus you've still been shot even if nothing important got damaged you're hardly at an advantage are you? Yeah it's the sort of thing you'd do in real life really, try to pad your gear with stuff to make it more resistant like in movies when they line clothes with books(not that that really works too well) it's the sort of thing people would try in real life.
-
Is this always going to be the way? It's so annoying that if your assualt vest for example gets shot once everything in it except guns gets ruined. You might get hit in the leg once but survive the firefight only to find that your morphine and rags and sticks have all been ruined by one freaking bullet. I get that they couldn't have realistic placement of hitboxes all over clothing so that if a can is at the top right of a backpack and the top right gets shot only the can is destroyed but it's incredibly stupid that EVERYTHING gets ruined in whatever is hit. They should just make it destroy one or two things at random that would be way better. Then if you get shot up at least you might still have bandages and morphine to save the day because you have no hope if all that is destroyed, as whoever you killed is going to have only ruined stuff too. So even if some jackass jumps you and gets a few shots in, in the end they still win since it's damn near impossible to survive having to roll about. Especially sucks when you get shot unexpectedly but survive and get ready to arm yourself, only to find all your bullets for all your guns are ruined, however that could even happen. By the way, a tip. Don't empty ammo boxes until you need to, if the box gets ruined you can empty it and the bullets inside are still pristine. Literally the only thing that helps keep you going until they make the damage system make some form of logical sense.

Yeah that too I slid down some stairs once and the screen flashed, checked the status screen no bleeding or broken bones so I went on my merry way. Then I notice like 10 minutes later that my pants are totally ruined, which had my only shot of morphine in them. What luck that I found another one minutes later but it's still stupid, why make it like that to begin with? I don't think a probability mechanic would be all that hard to add and it would make the game so much better and more fun. All I really have to say to that is, so? What is game breaking about that in any way? If you have loads of useless crap then that just means you have less space for mags and whatever else it's not like you could survive every engagement that way and on the off chance that 1 of your good things does get hit you're screwed. EDIT I think weapons should definitely have their own hitbox too(weapons outside of backpacks) Imagine how awesome it would be if you could sneak up on some M4 wielding douche, shoot their gun ruining it and do whatever you want to them.
-
Yes. Melee weapons should be deadly to humans and average on zombies, mostly requiring headshots. If someone slices your arm with a machete you're hardly able to lift an M4 to shoot them easily. Sledgehammers would be great for sneaking up and breaking someone's legs or straight up executing them, unless they have a helmet, then knockout or dazed vision at least. I had a machete one time and started attacking this guy on the stairs of a police station(I figured he was some KoS guy, there's no reason to be in Berenzino with full gear other than to kill people) so I slashed him a few times in the back and ran away, then when he started bandaging himself I ran up the stairs and sliced him at least 4 more times, before he could finish bandaging. So at least 6 machete slices, 6 points of bleeding and 6 attacks. Dude still mutilated me with his M4 and bandaged himself up. I'd love slings, especially if you could just put random shit in them, even grenades if they add them. But no way in hell should it be a case of aiming, clicking then you hit the target. You should have to learn how to time it right. However this would probably lead to huge issues with all the lag in the game. It could still be a very good item when audio is made realistic. Group of guys you want to dodge, get your sling out and throw your flashlight or something so that it smashes on a wall and distracts them.

1 bullet = everything in backpack destroyed!
UltimateGentleman replied to UltimateGentleman's topic in General Discussion
Yeah but we're still playing this game right now, we still gave them their money so they should add least add some working features in so we can enjoy testing it for them fully. -

UltimateGentleman replied to UltimateGentleman's topic in General Discussion
I think 4 is a bit much, especially if it's random. What if you have two pistols and two morphine shots in there and all that gets ruined? I think 3 things being destroyed per bullet should be a maximum with slight chance, on hardcore maybe more things should be destroyed. Anyway glad to see people recognize this is a big stupid issue. The only problem is that when they make this game difficult, as in less cans of food everywhere if you see some geared up dude you know you're only going to destroy at best 3 cans of food if you kill him, so everything being destroyed is good in that it will make people consider how much of the limited supply they're destroying. Maybe they could make it so that zombies just get attracted to the dead body? So you can't just kill someone and safely get their 10 cans of food there's some risk involved, when zombies don't take just one bullet to kill anyway/ It's still just too broken right noq though. I think everything in your pants should be safe from zombies at least, they never hit your legs so it's stupid that they get destroyed at all, then you could just keep morphine there. I'm looking through this thread hours later, I'm sure someone else will have by now? -
I think mostly this. The audio in the game is awful, you have to look over walls with third person to see if people are 20m away even though they have big hiking boots and a backpack full of bullets and other things that would be making a TON of noise in real life. It's really crap that you can't hear doors too you could be quietly chowing down on a precious can of tactical bacon only for some douche to walk in behind you undetected and shoot you in the head, which more often than not they will do. Also if you're in a two story building you should definitely hear people walking up stairs it's really lame that everyone is virtually silent until they're close enough to kill you

Something like a big claymore with its weight could probably cut in to steel good. But if they were in the game you'd have to be able to cut people in half. Imagine you could just run around like you were from Highlander chopping everyone up... It would be hilarious but makes no sense. Unless they added a museum somewhere or multiple where medieval weapons would spawn? Doesn't seem like the kind of area where a museum would have commercial value though. Being able to make spears should be fine enough, the pitchfork should work as one for sure. Maybe they could add metal bars in, like the ones used to reinforce concrete for you to make a spear out of. Though they'd be a bit heavy. Metal poles of some sort anyway instead of just wood all the time. Off topic but wouldn't it be cool if you could attach a mirror to a stick to look round corners? That would be fantastic in hardcore.

I actually was a lot last time I played most zombies were taking like 10 body shots or at least 3 head shots to go down >.> axes seem to be fine getting a headshot in first person does it anyway. So how does experimental work does it just play like stable or is it really prone to lag, FPS drops and other problems? I feel like checking it out but don't want to get murdered constantly by random issues. -
Well you can still do damage with them, I see what you're saying now but it wouldn't be so hard to use clubs or anything like that and spears would need a stabbing motion to be good it wouldn't be that hard to run someone through with them. I'd love for katana's to be in the game but more than anything they should just be like a vanity thing katana's in reality are really weak and chip quickly so in game they should just break quick. Would be cool to have one on your side in a sheath though even if it was never effective. Actually a lot of weapons need a stabbing motion, trying to slice someone with a full gear set is beyond ridiculous. Maybe they should add a stab animation activated by holding the attack button? Right now for melee combat just mashing left click is really dumb. I think swords are a bit ridiculous to have in this game though, instead of actual medieval spears maybe they could have a school building that spawns the occasional javelin?(not to throw though) Or maybe you could snap a machete blade off and if they added superglue, glue it to another machete and then you have your makeshift sword.

Aw man I can not wait for this to hit stable... How long does it usually take, like a week? I was thinking of quitting the game for a bit so might just wait until then to play and check out what's new. -
How? I mean it would be hard to win a sword fight against a trained swordsman but a sword isn't hard to swing about if you have the strength to lift it, neither is a hammer. If you can use a hammer at a fairground to hit one of those things and ring a bell you can quite easily hit a person. I'm not getting what you think should be so difficult about it, it should be tiring but that's about it not so hard that you can't do it properly.
-
Yeah but guns don't say "put 7.62 rounds in me" on them anywhere there's a lot to work out and yet your character can just instantly use any weapon effectively. If they're a soldier or something they shouldn't be able to use an old WW1 or WW2 gun perfectly, yet they do so why make it difficult to use primitive weapons? That's just silly really there's no sense in making shooting and maintaining a gun easy but making swinging a hammer around hard any retard could do that. Throwing a spear and having it hit on target would be hard but that's about it, would be kind of stupid to throw your weapon away in the game anyway, though it would be a cool feature just not as the main usage of a spear. Anyway I'm all for primitive weapons, tape a rock to the end of a stick or just a sledgehammer. The former may break in a hit or two but it'd still bash a skull or break some bones, if they were the only option you had they'd be good. And as said guns should be MUCH rarer. I don't think you should be forced to stay in one server exactly but it would be cool if there was some way for it to require starting over on each so nobody could spam loot drops or go on a noob server with the best weapons and wreak havoc. Maybe when servers can hold more players, imagine you were tied to the one server and just nobody but you went on it ever. Maybe they could add in superglue to make homemade weapons a bit sturdier.

How do you mean tweaked...are they more powerful again or weaker? What I'd like to be next is the ability to limp when you have a broken leg, if you have no morphine or no ridiculously rare sticks if one of your legs breaks you might as well respawn you can't do anything. Forum medics sure but they need to add an in game solution soon.
