You are Dead at the N W A F Fire station tower

Does it happen when you're going down stairs? Those stairs and stairs in general are very dangerous. Perhaps it's lagging out and not showing you sliding/falling down them then you just instantly suffer the damage and for no reason die. It's not sniping you quite clearly hear it when you get sniped. Nobody can shoot you from so far away that you don't hear it.

    Realistic player identification

I don't think there's really an in-game solution for this, however an out of game solution could be someone setting up a site with a list and pictures of known murderers. You're never really going to be playing with the same group of people long enough to get to know all of them though even if you stay on the same server all the time it won't always be the same other 39 people who play. I don't think there's any viable solution that could work since so many people play the game and there are so many servers but when there actually is some character customization it could possibly work to an extent. Maybe some guy will have an X painted on his clothes all the time or will always have an orange helmet so you could see them and be like oh my god it's that guy! Or maybe you could have identifiable facial features like player placed scars so someone with one gets a name for themselves amongst the community as "Scarface" The problem is that you're never really going to see peoples faces much, I mean who in game just lets you examine them? Maybe if when you were holding someone up they could make it so that you could take their helmets and masks off and look at their face. Would be cool if clans could put facepaint on with like a Z or something so they know the person they meet is in the Z clan, things like that. No system would ever be perfect though sadly.

    Zombie Player?

I actually think it would be pretty cool if they done zombies right, they should have weaker vision and clumsy controls so it actually takes some finesse to move around. Wouldn't it be awesome if you could get a horde of guys together to take on the living? Could make unofficial game modes out of it even. I guess it could just be a mode but I think it could work in the SA if they done it properly.

    Zombie Player?

I don't think it's so bad, maybe they could make it so you can't use voice chat or anything while a zombie and if you get turned in to a zombie it takes a long time to spawn back in, so your friend would have to sit near all your stuff for like 5 minutes before you spawned on the other side of the map and took 20 minutes to run over. Still a good chance of the friend just being killed and the whole thing going to hell.

    Arma3 Third person fix mod...thoughts?

No that's just because a dogs senses are better... Plus they're more for scent than hearing, their hearing would only be for when people are sleeping because they wake up easier. Human senses aren't that weak. Actually blind people can have amazing senses typically, there's even blind people who can ride bikes through a city with as much skill as a person with sight. They just rely on echolocation or frequent noise to determine things they can't tell if someone is standing still at a distance, same as this blurred view I'm suggesting. EDIT ideally they could have proper directional and realistic sound but I doubt the DayZ team is going to make something that amazing all they're doing is creating a game.

Sanity/rationale/crazy meter to encourage player interaction?

Hmm, I kind of like the idea. But I don't like how it forces me to be with people, I'm not a people person so why should I have to be in the game? I should be able to essentially play as myself(if that makes sense) I don't need people to be sane would rather just have a dog if I was in the DayZ world. I do plan to get a headset and try to talk to people but will probably always be more of a lone wolf who occasionally talks to people who seem nice. Maybe it could be on hardcore? As long as it wasn't forced on to everyone I'd be all for it. Actually yeah when they add in companion animals maybe they could help too if it worked like that then it'd be fine for me and others like me and also it should be a status of many factors not just human interaction, interaction just being the best "cure"

    Arma3 Third person fix mod...thoughts?

Kind of because they practically would be. Think about it, in DayZ there is no traffic going around, no planes overhead, currently not much wind and no streets full of people. It would be and is very quiet, someone running around with a backpack full of stuff and hiking boots in the distance would be extremely easy to hear. I say ghost/blurred view because no audio system can accurately convey what your senses do and people just popping in an out of sight like in the video would be dumb and lead to issues no doubt, people would probably end up staying invisible half the time. EDIT how deaf are you people? I can practically hear what step someone is on as they go up stairs.

    Arma3 Third person fix mod...thoughts?

I actually quite like this as a fix it just needs some work. Once audio is realistic, to the point where you can hear people from a distance when they're running around, perhaps you could have some kind of a ghost view of them? To emulate what you would gather from your real life senses, hearing past a wall. So basically you see a blurry image of where a person is when they're making a lot of noise but you see nothing else, not what direction they're looking, not what guns they do or don't have, nothing just a general idea of where they are. I think that works out fine, people camping on a rooftop make no noise so they're still safe, but if they fire a shot they might be slightly exposed.

Will the new AKM suck ?

But with a mouse shooting system it's just really not hard to aim and it's not easy to make it realistic, progression is a great idea as people survive in a situation like DayZ they become more accustomed to the life style. You see it all the time in similar things, Walking Dead for example they all get comfortable enough around zombies to take them out with knives. People adapt, and so should the player character in DayZ, it only makes sense. Would you rather not know someone that murdered you with an M4 from a large distance actually took the time and had some skill in order to be that accurate? Rather than just spray all their bullets and get you or attempt a burst fire tactic and get lucky. The sway is unrealistic for a trained marksman not just in general, bullet drop is another story though of course. It should just get the point where you have some realistic control over the weapon and know how to fire it, judge range etc etc instead of just being slightly difficult to use and then you get used to it and can always shoot perfectly. Anyway given that the AKM gets a 75 round mag I hope it is horribly innacurate cos every group of bandits will just server hop until they're all kitted out with them. Not much anyone can do with 4 guys raining 300 rounds down on them.

Will the new AKM suck ?

Stats are good and all, but there's more to it than that isn't there? If you give some random guy an M4 he's not going to shoot the head off a crow at 200 yards is he? I don't think it's unrealistic for random survivors to have crap aim with an automatic weapon they've not handled before. Compared to semi-auto they're way harder to handle so it's fair that their aim sucks. If they do add some kind of progression system as has been discussed that will all be fixed anyway, shoot an M4 enough and your aim is as good as it could be instead of all over the place. Anyway I think the AKM will suck but hopefully it will at least take over some of the M4 spawns and stop people spamming them. I just hope it doesn't have a million attachments like the M4 give other guns some love first, long range or longer range scope on the SKS please.

    Zombie Player?

Would be awesome if they made it that you turn in to a zombie when you die though, so you could play as one sort of like being a monster in Resident Evil 6. Maybe you could keep what gear you had too, since being a zombie wouldn't make it disappear so you can run away and get a buddy to kill you and take your stuff.

After playing Take On Helicopters for 2 hours, I say YES to helos.

"But helicopters are hard to fly and maintain" So? People learn. If one asshole clan that just murders everyone knows how to fly one properly they dominate the map. It's not like it's going to take years of work to know how to get it going one guy will be dedicated to that and the others will shoot everything and they'll all server hop to get fuel cans so they never run out. Can't see how it would be easy to shoot the pilot while the heli was moving, it would be almost purely luck and if you miss then they know they're being shot at and can just move differently. Plus what position could you really be in where you can do that and not get seen? If a heli is like 500m up and moving you are not shooting that down with a mosin. Adding any kind of helicopter that takes more than 2 people would just severely unbalance the game, to the point where stingers would be needed, then tanks, then rocket launchers oh and then mines and laser rifles and wtf why are there zombies running around this ain't no zombie game! I don't know what they're called but in one of the mods they had some shitty wee helicopter, looked like only one person could fit on them. I'm all for that one person could probably maintain that by themselves and pose no real threat to the other players while still being able to be a useful machine.

    Arma3 Third person fix mod...thoughts?

Third person won't be much of an advantage when they fix how easy guns are to aim and remove that white dot for shooting. Yes you will be able to look round corners but you'll still just be shooting in the middle of the screen with no real accuracy if you don't switch to first person. When you go in to a building in 3rd too the camera stays outside the building as you're going in the door, meaning you can only see the outside walls. So someone in your perspective that you would easily see in 1st could just shoot you because all you see are those outside walls for that couple of seconds. So it's not without it's disadvantages. 1st sucks it's not even realistic anyway you can't quickly turn your head while playing the game without buying some stupid gadget, IRL I can run forward while looking around me in a few directions. In DayZ I have to press several buttons to do so, with fingers I'll need if some asshole in a bush just outside the FOV decides to shoot me. If you move your mouse from left to right you spin round in circles, there is no turning round feet animation so it's instant. Meaning in 1st you have to spin round on the spot to check your surroundings, super realistic. Or have to press buttons like I said which is similarly stupid. They'll probably add animations so you can't just turn round instantly at some point meaning 1st will leave you completely undefended from behind while turning. Looong story short, neither is better. Play on 1st person only servers or don't. Do you get non hardcore 1st person servers? If not they should be added, same with third person only then people can do whatever they want.

    Usage of both hands

I think it would be great for just the flashlight, who couldn't hold a gun or a knife and a flashlight? And who needs two hands to hold a flashlight? Currently it's pretty stupid and switching things is so unresponsive that holding a flashlight makes you defenceless, press 1 to switch to your M4 because 4 zombies are running at you...seconds later the M4 is taken out, just as they're all ripping you apart. I don't see what would be so unreasonably difficult about making one animation for holding two things, it's a fairly basic concept and definitely should be done at some point. If I want to hold my precious tactical bacon and a can opener at all times I damn well should be able to! It would be especially great for getting shot at, because imagine you're running about at night with your flashlight in two hands, get shot and then all your guns are broken. But with using both hands you could already have your pistol out, get shot and have all your guns but said pistol broken, meaning you can still actually defend yourself.

What to expect in the next update

Hmm, not too keen on a chainsaw being in the game though I guess it could be fun. Shouldn't be the best melee weapon though, a chainsaw would actually suck for mowing down tons of zombies it would take too long to cut through them and all the guts etc would just clog it up and it would break. So I hope they've done their homework on that and don't make it the God weapon like most games and movies do, it would be cool if it was mostly functional for getting wood and maybe one on one encounters. I like the sound of that pistol hopefully it's accurate. Also hopefully the AKM and other guns will take over some M4 spawns so if you go to an unlooted airfield you're not guaranteed to find an M4. If like half of those things are added next patch I'll definitely start playing 24/7 again but who knows when that patch will be

    The TANK Thread

How do you know? When they're upgradable they might add offroad tires, or there might be quads/off road vehicles. When they're first introduced they'll probably be broken enough to go up near vertical hills anyway, maybe even go through trees and whatnot. Yeah I'm aware that that's the point of a tank. But it's not the point of a zombie survival game good lord... Ok yeah let's talk about that, obviously you have limited shells, limited fuel and limited everything. Why in the fuck, in a zombie apocalypse, would you be using a tank that makes a huge amount of noise and an even bigger amount of noise when firing when it's going to attract every single zombie in a mile or more radius? You would mow down a few, easy but then you'd run out of fuel and have to sit in your metal coffin and die or go out and get eaten. They are not viable or realistic in a survival situation against zombies, at all. A well stocked army could maybe survive but a bunch of asshats who woke up on a beach would just get mutilated. So there's another reason why they make no sense to be in the base game.
  17. So when the sun is nearly going down it takes like minutes for it to go down and for it to go almost pitch black, where in the world does this happen? It surely shouldn't be that quick a transition. And also food you can have two cans of food which will last you a few hours if you're moving around a lot, where if you were playing a while day you'd have eaten like maybe 6 cans of food or more to stay energized, plus water. Who needs that much food for one day? As far as I can tell it's not real time, in game time seems to go a lot faster than real life. Well maybe not a lot but enough to make a noticable difference. What are your thoughts on this, do you think it should be real time? Or maybe even faster, so that you need more food to survive. I would kind of like it to be faster, so long as servers were set to start at like 8am instead of 3pm(what I see mostly, roughly) Obviously it's not that realistic to be faster however you're never going to be playing it 24 hours consistently anyway, so perhaps a 12 hour day cycle could better make the time you put in to the game span a lot more of the game day. It would make night time a lot more worth playing since if it was 3-4 hours of the game day then you could actually get through a night without having to waste all of your time playing the game. Basically you could fit a lot more game time in but still have time to do things in your real life. I would be more inclined to play at night if it didn't last so damn long with that and how little an amount of people play it, there's not much point other than to slightly challenge/scare yourself

Is this game real time or supposed to be?

No but I frequently go for 1am walks with my dog through a forest and can see alright. I'm not asking for it to be totally clear just like a few metres in front of you rather than total blackness, when you're in trees it could be dark I guess but otherwise you should have enough light to navigate without having to up your gamma. Plus your eyes in real life adjust to the dark after 5 minutes or so, it would be awesome if the game did that. I don't think they should even try being 100% realistic with the game, it never will be really if you get shot and just put a bandage on and stab morphine in to yourself you're probably still gonna die, it has many features but it's far from realistic and always will be so I don't think they should get so hung up on the realism side. If you got hungry way faster at least the game would be a struggle once you get energized, hydrated and healthy currently you are good to go, like forever.
  19. UltimateGentleman

Is this game real time or supposed to be?

You mean the gamma? To be honest I don't really consider it a cheat since the night is so unrealistically dark anyway, torches should be a luxury not a necessity in order to see. Though obviously it's unfair when someone has their gamma up but you don't, they should just make it so night time is less dark since moonlight is more than enough to see in the dark in real life. Right now basically all you can see is the sky and silhouettes of buildings or whatever against it so it's really not fun to play just inconvenient. I'd be happy with the game if a less dark night was the case and it was real time but I'd rather it be less dark and not real time so it's easier at night but overall much harder. With days being much shorter and food being needed more it would actually get scarce, right now even on non high loot servers and a 2 hour restart at the 1 hour 50 minute mark there's still enough food for all 40 players playing around. So it would be awesome if starving after being in a server 6 hours was actually possible since currently it's a non issue if you know where to go when you spawn.
  20. UltimateGentleman

Is this game real time or supposed to be?

Yeah that's basically what I had in mind, currently it's like "Oh it's getting dark" *5 minutes later* "It's completely black!" It would be great to see the sun going down and having to scramble supplies for a campfire together so you can survive the night instead of just logging in to a daytime server since you would have to play night for like 8 hours to survive, which would be mostly boring. Perhaps in different seasons night could be 3 hours long, day 7 hours long and then in another season 7 hour night 3 hour day etc. That little hint of variety would make the game so much more interesting to play, it would cut down server hopping too I'd imagine. I'd like to play on just one server but when everyone leaves at night it's so boring, if I'm going to roam around at night I want there to be some chance of encountering other players and a shorter night would allow just that.

Yesterday I played the Mod after 200 hours of Standalone.

Oh I know, I just mean basically what they're doing is recreating the mod as it was but improving on it :P Imagine they could copy and paste it though that would be awesome most things would be done in a flash then they could improve them quickly :D
  22. UltimateGentleman

Is this game real time or supposed to be?

Yeah this is the main problem, but if they were to make the gameplay and hunger/thirst system take realistically longer, the game would be way too easy a few cans of food would easily let you survive. So I think making it a 12 hour day would be a great step, once people got used to it I'm sure they'd have a lot more fun since they could play the game 12 hours straight, experience a whole DayZ(see what I did there) and still have time for real world things like sleep or going outside or maybe eat food so as to not starve :P

Yesterday I played the Mod after 200 hours of Standalone.

And how old is the mod? Ok bad analogy. How about wine then, since it gets better with age(apparently, all tastes like ass to me) The mod is like a fine wine that's had plenty time to mature, the SA is still just picked grapes in comparison.

Server Resets are getting a bit frustrating.

Yeah 2 or 1 hour restarts are just loot based really, I tend to play on 3 hour ones. After so long though regardless of loot servers get a bit laggy so currently if you had one on for 10 hours which had lots of people in it, it would be a mess insane rubber banding, fps drops, the whole show. When they get 64 bit servers up it should be fine for like 4-6 hours maybe? I don't really know but there'll be a big improvement. I tend to play the game like 6-8 hours so a server being on that long would be awesome, it would be cool actually seeing loot being scarce, as well as animals to hunt rather than knowing your few cans of food will definitely last you the 3 hours or less servers can currently manage.

    The TANK Thread

This is the only way tanks should be in the game. Want tanks in the SA? Make a war mod or wait for someone else to, the base game is survival not war, except against zombies(though not really) Cars will be enough of a threat, if someone has a car and you don't they already have a huge advantage over you. Especially if it's not simply a case of get in, or out, accelerate, reverse. If they add in features like being able to duck behind the wheel people can hide from gunfire and run you over. That would be cool. On that, off topic but when cars are added I think they should eventually make them first person only, especially if they do that ducking I mentioned above, since in third person people could just drive like that and be invincible where in first person if you do that you have to be careful you don't hit a tree or something. I would probably play a war mod with tanks and such but having them in the base game would just be a hassle, I want pvp with people that need some legitimate skill to kill me not just blow me up from a distance and anything else that moves.
