This is mostly about lighter fluid I know lighters and flint have been suggested. Basically we can't have unlimited lighters and being unable to refill them would be lame, so lighter fluid. Searching in rocky areas should have a chance to yield a piece of flint, with two or one and a stone you can bash them together to light a fire with a low chance of success but no chance of magical physics defying wind blowing it out. But if you have a flint and a bottle of lighter fluid, ability to pour it on the campfire or whatever to increase your chance of success. As well as possibly make it burn out quicker if you don't add more sticks to it, this also uses more lighter fluid than filling a lighter up for balance. It's not ideal, you want a lighter but it's an option.

Yeah I've been getting that even when I use task manager it comes up with the not responding box and I have to end the process again. Or if I just exit normally it does it so I need task manager.
-
I agree with lighters but...unlimited use? It should be a 100% gas kind of thing and they could add in lighter fluid. If it's one hit kill having perfect accuracy would suck so that's not much of a problem probably intentional or else everyone would just spam it to no end.

I thought it was supposed to hit beta this year? Because yeah at this rate that seems unlikely.

Well you can still make out like 10m in front of you barely and the shapes of trees and stuff in DayZ you only see things if the sky is behind them, like the silhouette's of houses when in real life the light from the stars or moon should be enough to make it out. It'd still be difficult without a torch of course but survivable so I think they should change it, so people don't have to cheat with gamma and ruin it for people using torches. Perhaps remove gamma settings or make it so they have to go to the main menu to change them.

Yeah currently a like 8 hour night in total darkness is way too difficult, I can see fine at night in real life but in the game it's just like a black wall constantly... That for 8 hours doesn't sound appealing at all, but two hours sounds like a nice challenge. Can't wait to see the sunrise. Any idea when they could be adding that? I hope it's soon and global not just a setting. Should make the game feel a lot bigger since days will be passing as you travel between large portions of the map.
-
Are you saying they will like it's confirmed or if they added that it would work? I suggested that some weeks back, considering you can do so many time consuming things in seconds if they made the game day shorter that would be awesome. Make night less unbelievably dark and shorter so you could actually play through it without having to have a torch on for like 8 hours. Then it would be great.
-
That would suck it would mean that some people have to stay up until like 2am before it's daytime in their country. If they made night realistically dark then maybe but currently it's just completely black which is stupid so no. Remove the ability for random restarts and limit people to like 3 servers a day, that would be decent plus increase the spawn in time and have some kind of log out animation that takes like 10 seconds.

Yeah I can't wait until guns can be damaged to the point where we can shoot them out of peoples hands. It would be great if you go in to a police station or whatever and see like 3 guns "This is a problem..." BANG BANG BANG "Not any more!" shoot them all so they're broken. That would be great, could encourage server hopping I guess but it's not like people are ever going to stop doing that. "Ah this ammo type doesn't fit in this gun! So immersion breaking! hold on while I spawn in this hanger in a few more servers until I get what I want while being immersed in my teleporting to alternate realities of authenticity" Anyway, have their been any minor updates for the game at all to fix some of the issues? I hope we see something on Wednesday it's just pointless playing now. I might go swim to the islands though, considering my character will probably get reset or break his legs randomly anyway why the hell not. *finds RPG on island*

Please lower food spawn rates! Make hunting useful.

Have you never seen the "HIGH LOOT 30 MIN RESTART" servers? We basically have that already. If you don't like it just go on them. It'd be way better if server admins got control of things then you could go on always foggy servers for a nightmarish experience, always raining for a hellish experience, no ammo or gun servers(char reset on them), zombies everywhere servers etc etc. The variety would be nice. Anyway they need to...for lack of a better word, streamline hunting first it takes so long to find everything and you might not at all, for starters we need a renewable way to light fires because matches are ridiculously rare other than in piano houses, rubbing sticks together would do. All the stuff takes up way too much space too why does a fireplace kit take 4 spaces it's just a bunch of rags and sticks mashed together.. Same with stones and firewood all the stuff you need takes up too much space to the point where you have to go dodge bandits at an airfield and get a big backpack when in real life you would have a backpack and plastic bags most likely for extra storage. It will only be good when we can make bases so we can haul animal carcasses home and go find some stones for a campfire or a pickaxe. -
Not really it doesn't take that long to find some sticks and rocks to make a fire and where are all the lighters? It's just overly difficult right now you need a group or at least another person or it takes hours just to have a fire ready and gear for hunting. I support the better guns being rarer but overall mostly just ammo for them being rare instead of in any old house.

Actually I think rifle but is better, you'd need the right boots for stomping or you'd be there a while. Perhaps you could stand on their head while you take your axe out though that would be cool. Better than having to run around hit 2 and wait for 10 seconds before your guy actually takes the axe out while the zombies is chasing you relentlessly.

But in the scope of the game, does it matter? Does food being cooked in a minute keep you immersed? Does the whole deal with morphine and bandages instantly stopping bleeding? Surely it's not that big an issue. I'd rather play the game and not have to be an expert on ammunition. More types would mean each type is more scarce but overall ammo would have to be more common or you'd get pointlessly low amounts of each type, plus it would make it even harder to deal with bandits who've hoarded 30 M4/AKM clips between themselves while you're stuck not even being able to find the right 9mm ammo to even have a hope of defending yourself. -

But why would all this be in Chernaus? It's bad enough that there's U.S gear why have so many ammo types when the current amount does the job? It's doubtful there'd be more than a handful of different types the army would all use the same standard rifle and ammo then the police would probably just have the magnum rounds, 9mm, 45acp and shotgun rounds. This isn't a place that has much variety there isn't even a gun store, least not yet. Considering the Mosins and Blaze's there's probably supposed to have been hunters, they probably just got their ammo from the army bases. Rather than a shop stocked with all the kinds of ammo you could want. Frankly the people that care about ammo types are a tiny minority so while other things stay unrealistic like eating I don't see why that should be so specific, does it really matter? I'd rather they just add new guns that work fine or spend time on adding animations and whatnot than have to work in new ammo. What do we have now we've got the SKS ammo, Mosin/Blaze, M4, forgot what the AKM uses, magnum rounds, 9mm, 45acp, shotgun shells, air pellets, bolts and composite arrows. How many more do you want? Granted it would be awesome if M4 bandits almost never found the ammo they needed or mags with only like 3 rounds in them etc but overall it would make guns pretty crap since ammo is so rare, hunting and killing zombies would be such a chore without them. Unless it's realistic to have to take on 30 zombies with a fire axe and win. -
[Suggestion] Pocket UI for fast access
UltimateGentleman replied to Rigor Mortis (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
Well that would be a good thing, you should know what pocket your ammo is in but in a real life situation you might panic and forget or pick the wrong pocket. So that would be cool in my opinion, though yeah 8 could be too much but it depends on what you're wearing. It's still better than having to open a menu or for shotguns or the Blaze have speedloaders take up your inventory when anyone could pick a couple of rounds out their pocket and shove them in in seconds. -
Why we cant take off our vest ?
UltimateGentleman replied to BayZ (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I put no but what I want is a maybe. It would be good for if you needed a last set of rags or wanted to humiliate someone but that's about it. I'd rather we found different ones, I want to run around almost naked with a smiley face on my vest! -

Well that's my point it's just one of the things like eating rice in 10 seconds that won't be realistic ever, most likely. I mean where do you stop with the ammo types? There are thousands of types of ammo and guns to match if they want to add one gun that has slightly different rounds they have to add a whole new ammo type to the mix for one gun, to the point where ammo would need to be everywhere or the ammo you need would practically be nowhere. If they did add loads more they'd be bombarded with whiners wanting things like .50 cal rounds, explosive rounds etc, there should be less guns and ammo in the game not more currently it's just a big CoD deathmatch if they added tons of guns and ammo to match that would just get worse and worse, it's better to make the current ammo scarce. -
[Suggestion] Pocket UI for fast access
UltimateGentleman replied to Rigor Mortis (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
Yeah I sort of suggested this a while back but for ammo. Like using a shotgun you keep your ammo in your front left shirt pocket, fire your two shots, spin the mouse wheel and select "load from front left pocket" and your character does it instead of having to open up the menu which leaves you wide open. But actual pockets couldn't fit much useful stuff in them though so I'm not sure why we'd need it for anything other than ammo they'd be perfect for mags or just rounds which would come in handy, especially mags just having them shouldn't enable a quick reload if they're at the bottom of the bag that's not how it would work.. I think I also suggested a craftable bullet belt and/or bullet belt you can find. -

UltimateGentleman replied to ParanoidMoron (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Is strapping a splint to yourself and having it instantly fix a broken leg authentic? They can't make it fully authentic, why make it perfectly emulate real life in some aspects, but not others? And if you add different ammo types then that reduces how common all others are like 9mmP or 9mmM, I don't know what one is in game I know fuck all about ammo types but if they added the other type in then they have to about half the drops of the other one, meaning there's a good chance that all the ammo you find doesn't fit in your gun and it would suck. Granted less ammo would be good but adding more types to reduce how much of what you need you actually get isn't a good way to go about it. Being able to make our own would be cool though just so they don't have to change in game drops just add gunpowder and make it so you can reuse casings plus scrap metal like I suggested earlier to make the bullets out of. I'd like more variety, like hand made hollow points etc but different types would make loot drops annoying. -
I don't find it scary, more annoying than anything else more of a "Aw fuck off zombies" than "ERMAGERD, ZUMBEYS" they just interrupt me trying to pick stuff up it's like fuck you dude if I could shit on you I would. I'd like some jump scares, Dead Space style where they seem dead and jump at you. But I don't think DayZ has the setting for it, it would be too obvious whereas Dead Space has guts and dead things everywhere, you don't know what's going to get up and attack you or not sometimes. Maybe they could have houses filled with dead bodies that tend to have a rare item in them, sort of like that church at the start of 28 Days Later then you go in, accidentally make some noise and they all start getting up and chasing you. I don't think there's much they could do with the horror aspect really it depends on your in game feelings currently like it doesn't scare me at all only when they jump at me from behind without having made any noise somehow beforehand. Everything like them bursting through walls or whatever would just be pre-scripted events that you could avoid so it wouldn't do much only for new players. If it was more of a gloomy atmosphere it could be scary but I prefer this desolate setting if I want scary I'll go play Silent Hill or something.

I found one by the airfield that's sort of in the middle of the map near the top, is it always there or do they just spawn randomly around the map? If not I think they should always spawn randomly since despite making M4's less common it would still just be a case of spawn, run to nearest heli crash site, find godly weapon, murder everything.
-
Yeah and I doubt it will even be close to finished before he goes. If another game starts getting put on standalone with fast, consistent updates and a dev team involved with the community, DayZ will be left in the dust. They can look at everything this team does wrong and do the opposite. DayZ will just be the trend setter essentially.
-
I wouldn't say dead but I think it might die. That or they'll sloppily finish it and never bother with it again, they have more than enough money to go make a better game now which they probably want to. By the time this game is finished there will be plenty of games that take away it's fanbase, the servers will probably be ghost towns. Especially if some of the better mods make their own standalones or people do ones with ARMA 3 or 4 if they make that. By the time they finish DayZ better games will be out or on the way so while people will always play it it won't be what it was aimed to be.

I don't think they should make cans less common until hunting is a bit easier. Because currently you need stones, sticks, rags, a pickaxe, an axe a backpack to carry all your necessities, a knife, matches, a gun or a bow and to find an animal. It takes ridiculously long to gather all that stuff by yourself and there's every chance you won't find even half of it after hours of searching so until they make everything required for hunting spawn a lot more commonly making food scarce would make it ridiculously hard. Since between looking for all that you're also going to get shot at by like pretty much everyone who sees you. I don't think they should make cans scarce until we have bases with persistent storage so that we can keep a supply of campfire materials and such. Right now hunting is just an interesting activity it's not so much a viable survival option. Fishing is just as hard too since you need almost all of the above plus rope and a fishing hook which not only are rare but are hard to even see. I agree with the idea, but not for right now. EDIT forgot to mention guns, yeah way less rare except the sporter 22 keep shit like that relatively common and maybe Mosin's but damaged ones so it's not one hit kills and perfect accuracy.

So zombies chase animals, not sure if that's intentional but I hope so it should stay that way, they should have a thirst for blood/brains. So when animals aren't one hit kill, it would be awesome if they still ran in predictable directions, so you could "aim" them towards a city, shoot them in the side or something(perhaps with the sporter) so that they bleed and run off through the city, attracting all the nearby zombies and luring them away. Course you'd have to be lucky that an animal was near a city but I think they should spawn near them, you see it all the time in post apocalyptic settings once humans leave or become scarce nature invades our cities so it's not too unbelievable. This could also be great for when they add in bears or wolves, you see a bear hanging around somewhere you need to go, perhaps your base. Shoot it in the hind leg, zombies come running for blood and weaken the bear to the point where it's an easy kill or manage to kill it themselves. It would be an awesome feature alongside blood from players attracting zombies.
