How is hardcore mode different?
UltimateGentleman replied to UltimateGentleman's topic in General Discussion
First person is hardly realistic either, my vision isn't limited to some rectangular box with first person you can't see something running at you from the side where real people would have the peripherals(if they didn't just hear) to see movement in the corner of their eye. Looking over fences and stuff isn't realistic but you get the semi-realistic FOV with it not a tiny box. First person games are like if you cut a rectangle in a cardboard box and put it over your head. What we need is Oculus/Morpheus support... -
They shouldn't ALL though. I've never had a proper gun but I've had a couple of air rifles with slings, I usually take them off because they look stupid. Maybe some Chernausians just have them for home protection, they're not going to need a sling for long walks in that case and might have taken it off. A sling on every weapon defeats the point of difficulty, that just makes it easy. Sometimes you're going to get something shit without a sling, just have to deal with it.

Yeah zombies are the worst at least with people it's just *gunshot* "you are dead" oh well somebody killed be but with a zombie the screen flashes, they usually fly through you after jumping and then they're making their weird squeals. Fucking horrible... I don't get why they'd have hardcore in the game so early when the only difference really is first person view... -
Why you don't need to server hop to get geared.. ever.
UltimateGentleman replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
I think making loot disappear for hoppers is the best solution so far, it's not perfect but it would help a lot. Of course there would probably be problems where it disappears for everyone...but I'm sure they'd fix it up eventually. I mean if they have to spawn far away like 100m or so from hangars or whatever they're still going to have to run over and there are probably going to be people watching half the time. Also combined with that, to combat everyone having loot disappear they could just have some things flagged to disappear rather than all loot. So AKM's, M4's, their attachments, Longhorns etc etc, all the best and most powerful weapons should be the only things to disappear rather than everything. It's pretty fair towards non hoppers too. You might genuinely log out in an empty building where there happens to be a random high class weapon spawn but there was none when you left. Then you spawn in hours later on the same or a different server, suddenly there'd be a Longhorn in front of you. With system no accidental things like that could happen either. How often would someone go to sleep or something in a zombie apocalypse and wake up to find new guns in front of them... -

Hmm, I'm not really seeing the appeal then. I like my godly third person vision since I can't hear people run up behind me, until that's fixed hardcore is off my menu. -

UltimateGentleman replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
Well they can have fun trying to use all the stuff they just ruined  However if they're looking for guns it's unlikely they'd get ruined. Maybe they could set up some kind of penalty for spawning in and minutes later killing someone at an airfield? That stops campers like that or at least delays them. Or maybe their dimensional travel screws up from server hopping too much and they spawn on fire and die. I approve of that as a solution. -

UltimateGentleman replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
Hm, how would they work that though? It sounds like a solution but how far away does it work? Because if you can be say 10m from gear, like outside a hangar and that doesn't make it disappear then you can just do that and it's not an issue. Or if you have all gear in a 300m radius disappearing upon spawning in then you have people being able to delete whole airfields worth of loot. Or is it just that the people who spawn in can't see it? If it was like that it would be great "BUT THAT'S NOT REALISTIC" neither is magically teleporting to other realities/dimensions, to whoever disagrees with that approach. -
If you die in DayZ, you deserved it
UltimateGentleman replied to TheMachine's topic in General Discussion
There is no possible way you can account for that unless you search a whole town before even going in one building you don't know what's going to happen the second you turn round. Too many people round here act like it's possible to pick up stuff while looking behind you and in a 360 degrees radius around you as well as have extra sensory projection to look outside and know somebody is coming in. Just because it's never happened to you doesn't mean you're especially good at the game you're just lucky nobody has happened to walk in behind you. You never know who's about to walk round a corner or in the same house you did shutting the door doesn't give you almighty protection. Some things in this game are time consuming, you can not protect yourself while doing them...I wish people would stop acting like they're badass scouts that know where everyone is at all times when they're just lucky. -

UltimateGentleman replied to TheMachine's topic in General Discussion
^This. So much this. Lot of that logic around this forum. I deserve to be hit over the head or shot in the back by a player wearing a backpack with hundreds of bullets in it also wearing hiking boots that somehow made no sound running up behind me? Fuck off... -
Well, not really I must have searched like 20 apple trees and got one it took like 8 minutes to do all that, same with berries plus you get poisonous ones. Berry picking and stuff is just supplemental food if you're on the brink of death it's sometimes your only option. It'd be very time consuming and up to chance to survive off just that, so it would always be better to just scavenge and trade for food if you couldn't find any. But yeah I don't think it would work out for food to be the actual currency any trade rates should be player generated like a box of bullets for 3 tins of food, or some places might go ridiculous asking for 4 boxes for 1 tin. When barricades are added maybe people could put a sign outside a building saying "SHOP" and collect tons of stuff to sell, which can be traded through an open window or something for some sort of security. Sort of like how at a bank there's the big glass screen with a slot in it for you to pass things to each other. They could add buildings to facilitate that, still attackable but if you smash your way in the merchant guy is probably waiting with a gun anyway so it would be wise to play along. With persistent loot and safes, it could definitely work. It just depends on how many people want to act as shop keepers.
-
Well it won't always be, in this stage of development it might be but in the full release 10 cans of beans are going to be like as valuable as an M4. Food won't always be common the reason we can hunt, and pick berries/apples is because they're going to tone down canned goods considerably. So this idea does work in future but only if people accept it.

Say no to floating rifles on your back
UltimateGentleman replied to doublebrain's topic in Suggestions
I think it does right now, it sure looks like I'm running a lot faster after I get killed with gear on and spawn without. Maybe it's just a perspective thing but it definitely feels like you go faster without gear, so I think that being more in depth is definitely coming. -
Sadly that is the only real reason something like this would be hard to implement. I would love it personally but most people just play this game to PvP instead of actually enjoying what it has to offer they simply play it like any other shooter. The only way a currency and shop system would definitely work is if it was some kind of armoured NPC store...but I don't think anybody would really like that idea, survival shortcuts are looked down on. And if something like that was added it's already a pay to win game but could devolve in to genuinely being one with micro-transaction bullshit. You should suggest this again when the game is nearly complete and people are going to really need it currently all you're going to be met with is a "lol il jus kil ppl n tak ther stuf cos am smart" mentality, except for a few like me who'd enjoy it. I can't wait for the day when having a canteen, 4 tins of food and 20 M4 mags isn't enough to survive.
-
20 seconds is pretty weak even I can run longer than that and I'm pretty tubby and even more unfit. 5 minutes depending on gear sounds reasonable, unless you happen to be a soldier in the game they regularly go on 20K runs while geared. But that's OP as shit. So 5 mins sounds fine to me, 2-3 if you have a backpack full of stuff on. Just enough to travel a good distance or get away from zombies, but not enough to traverse the whole map in a couple of hours currently it feels to tiny.

Well, they might have been out shopping or fishing when the zombies attacked, I doubt many Chernausians take their AK to the store :P should be a "HOLY MOTHER OF BALLS" drop and plus even though it might seem silly you'd still need ammo and attachments for it to be useful. I like the idea of dead military guys though the game needs more gore for sure, dead military guys with an AK and no clips makes a lot of sense, they must have died after running out of ammo. It works like that anyway though so it's a bit confusing :| in my opinion M4's should definitely stay as they are though maybe there could be like a 0.05% chance of them spawning at an airfield though. -

UltimateGentleman replied to rickyonsteam's topic in Gallery
No he murders in self defence there's a difference between that and shooting someone on the off chance that they might find you later and kill you. In fact given the nature of this game they're probably going to spawn back and come find you... So it's not really smart in the game and even more stupid in real life, the smart decision would be to hold them up and see who they are, maybe that guy you're about to shoot is a doctor who could be very helpful to you. Shooting everyone on sight would be absolutely retarded you would just die alone whereas the smart people would band together and survive in a community. -

Ahhh, I see, you just don't want full randomness for weapon drops? As in there's not going to be a chance of AKM's spawning in the hospital or on a beach, ridiculous places like that. I agree with that, they should like 80% spawn in military areas and 20% spawn in other areas like I dunno, cabins, I'm sure some citizens of Chernaus would have owned AK's so there should be a minimal chance of finding them in hunters houses. Just to be clear for anyone who takes that the wrong way I mean 80% of all AKM drops should be in military areas, not that there should be an 80% chance of them spawning in every hangar or barrack under the sun. And then M4's should stay as they are I guess since they're slightly better stat wise, I think. Plus they don't fit the setting so heli crashes are good we just need to be able to see them better. -

AKM's and M4's are the high tier weapons, why should they take anything less than that to find? If they were always going to appear somewhere, why have any of the other weapons at all? It needs to be random for balance we can't all be running around with the best weapons that defeats the point of survival, it's not a war game it's survival you take what you can find and that's that. Currently what I do when spawning is head right to one of the towns I know and then I know my way to the NWAF and can get fully geared up on the way then get even better gear at the airfield. It's ridiculously easy as it is this journey takes me like 20 minutes and not once have I failed to find an SKS or Mosin to take along and the only reason I won't find an AKM(obviously used to be M4) is if they've been taken already. There should never be anywhere where good loot always spawns. -
It might actually be worse since food will be rarer, people will be desperate. Which is more legit than killing for lols but it will be an even rarer occurrence that someone legitimately trades with you. However since everything will be rarer, taking on a shop with two guards with M4's will be very very stupid early on before you have similar gear. Fresh spawns aren't touching that with a Mosin and barely any rounds, if they even find that much in the vicinity.
-
I like it but not going to happen a very tiny amount of people would actually abide by it everyone would just kill you for food. If anyone is actually willing to trade with you and not just shoot/attack you the second they see you "prices" can just be negotiated like I'll give you 3 cans of beans for 20 Mosin rounds, deal. Nice clean exchange. However often that happens...probably so rare it should be considered a miracle. When base building is added maybe we can have shop signs and get buddies to be body guards for them, they'd probably be attacked A LOT but once everyone got used to the idea of people playing the role of merchants they might see a shop sign and thing "Hey, these guys could be useful to me whenever I need stuff" instead of just "LOL people, kill them all even though they have more stuff than I can carry!"

Say no to floating rifles on your back
UltimateGentleman replied to doublebrain's topic in Suggestions
Well A) Not every gun is going to have that B} The game is extremely easy C) it's supposed to be difficult. I suppose a mod will merge these topics anyway. -
...what...what's ironic about that? Basically he's done what I'm suggesting should be in the game, rather than a rifle and a machete sticking to your t-shirt. After you said putting them on your backpack is impossible he explained it isn't, perhaps you were being sarcastic. Hope so. This would be great for walking, I'm pretty sure that walking while holding a weapon makes your energy and hydration drain much faster even if you're not holding it ready to shoot. Rather than holding it horizontally that would be a good way to preserve stamina. Not that I do much walking in this game but the option would be helpful if there were no magical slots.
-
Very good addition. I think things like the Sporter should definitely come with that so before you have a backpack if you come across both an SKS and a Sporter, you have a tough choice to make. Higher end military weapons should have a 50/50 chance of spawning with a strap, perhaps 30/70 and the strap should be an item you can find usable on many guns so if you find an AKM with one and don't want that, rip it off and go find an M4 or SKS, whatever. But the definite best guns you should probably be prepared for they should require a unique strap or holder so that bambi's can't just run directly to airfields and get the best weapons fully usable. I think backpack + rope should create an ideal strap for a weapon where just slotting it through backpack straps impedes movements, and then some backpacks like the hunting one should already have a strap type thing on them which works fine. It's something that you can be lucky and find instantly but if you die 2 hours in to the server most of the backpacks and whatnot are going to be taken, it's going to be difficult to survive which is what we need. Another good thing about this would be that it forces people to use bows. If you can't find or keep a gun you're going to need a bow to take down an animal and get food as well as get a makeshift backpack, hunting being a necessity would be awesome.

DayZ is a cruel cruel world... this is why i went bandit
UltimateGentleman replied to rickyonsteam's topic in Gallery
The OP? Lol, I think you're confusing surviving with murdering for no reason. Who would use humans for target practice in a world where the human population is dwindling and gunshots would attract hordes of zombies? No survivor I can think of, survivors are intelligent. -
It's still broken and dumb looking they can't have 100% realism but this is something that's blatantly magical, if you want a gun early on you should have to carry it and make an effort to keep it safe. However this would be better when performing another action didn't mean just dropping your rifle and having to pick it up again or having it disappear when it hits the ground. Not gonna be hard to put a rifle under your arm and eat a can of beans for instance, they should add an animation for that first. Which is why I said in the full release, not right now we need easy access to guns and such so we can faster make sure they work properly. But it's not supposed to be a fun GTA style shoot-em-up with zombies it's supposed to be a difficult survival game, anything that makes that a reality is an improvement. Currently the only difficulty in the game at all really is other players, the game should be difficult to survive in even if you're the only person playing. Belts work out for some things too like an axe since the head could hook over. However if you have something that big through your belt then it should slow your movement speed so it's still not ideal.
