Options to identify a body (Hide playername when checking pulse on Hardcore)
UltimateGentleman replied to kll4's topic in Suggestions
As Rigor said, no system can create the kind of diversity real human faces have and you're not seeing them with your own eyes there's no way you can totally memorize it to your eyes it's not a persons face, you might memorize a few but not like you remember real peoples faces just naturally. Plus most of the time you're probably going to be killed by people with bandana's and stuff now, bandits and KOS's are going to use them oh so much, those and gas masks. I'd like to make my own face on it but it's never going to be a greatly useful feature. -

There's no way they could get a custom face system so good that you would recognize people that well... You'd only recognize people who have like specific scars and things, assuming you even got a look at their face if they killed you and you're out to get them...how do you know what their face even looks like? They're probably going to be like "lel, n00b" in chat so you'll know their name, not their face. Some kind of ID badge would be best imo, then collect them and have a list of victims or bandits. Dog tags would be better, it seems fairly evident you have the skills of a soldier in the game so they should just state that as the "story" of your character and then add dog tags plus a keychain or something to keep them on. Simple. Kind of unbelievable that your ID card would stay in your pocket if you were out in the ocean, I guess. -

Well he said it as in they respawn once a certain number of them are taken so if there's 20 and 10 are taken 10 spawn again, it needs to take forever 10 hours isn't enough gives server hoppers a huge chance of finding bullets, still going to be slightly harder than it was before but it needs to be harder still looking an airfield and coming out with like 300 rounds of ammo is ridiculous. -

That's not great either though. Clan: "Find ALL the bullets!" *finds all the bullets after hours of searching* *bullets spawn in again* Clan: "Bullets again!" Same with guns, and everything. With storage, it's not gonna be hard for clans to get everything they need in surplus. -

Well, personally I would enjoy the challenge of spawning in a server where almost everything is taken. There's still gonna be random huts in the middle of nowhere with some stuff, it would take a truly dedicated clan of people to loot absolutely everything. I think if only things like rope respawned it would be good, of if they just upped they're spawn rates since bullets are easier to find than rope currently. Or maybe some kind of weak craftable rope you can make by peeling the skin off sticks. Being in such a bad situation could promote working together which would be good. Also I'm not sure if they do already but berries, apples etc should definitely respawn every few hours. Just so there's always something to eat but it's rarely ideal. -

It would make a huge difference if loot didn't respawn upon server restart, as I said multiple restarts before loot respawns maybe even days so it gets to the point where people actually need to explore the whole map to survive instead of gearing up in a coast town and being good to go in like 10 minutes. How would server hopping be more profitable? That doesn't make sense, people can still do that now. If it only respawned every few days, there are a lot less servers they can spam it on. They can all just stay on empty servers, more time away from legit players. Plus if it's empty simply because no people are on at the time, still a good chance that the airfields etc were raided hours ago when people were on so it would help a lot. Loot respawn is just not needed there's more than enough food for 40+ people across the map and hunting is basically a limitless source of food, the only reason people ever find it hard to get food is because they stay round the main towns and never stray near the top of the map or anything. All the coastal and big towns get picked clean, it's not that there's barely any food if anything there's too much. -
(I know this has somewhat been suggested before) Be awesome if we could have some hives for game modes where there's like 10x as many zombies. Or you spawn with a few cans of food and a gun and besides fishing etc no food spawns anywhere else, so you have to hunt or kill other players to get their food, no high end weapons either, bolt actions, pistols and melee to make it even harder. Would add some fun/challenge in to the game, once your fully geared and have a base there's not gonna be much else to do besides PVP which easily gets boring, so it would be cool to have some PVP centric modes where you have to find people and kill them to survive or team up and have a better chance then backstab each other. There could also be a hardcore type hive where there's like guns and melee in a 1:500 ratio and you find like 1-5 bullets at most wherever they spawn, so it's mostly a melee fest and a few guys with guns that have to use their bullets extremely carefully, hunting or killing players? Also bows since hunting with axes and whatnot is troublesome, especially when the animal AI is better. Obviously you have a different character between each hive so you can't take things in or out.

But it respawning is just dumb the problem was that it would respawn on server restarts, it should be difficult to survive if you join a server that hasn't had loot respawn in like 3 days it would be intense. I mean how does it even make sense? Raid a house, come back to it later and suddenly there's food or guns again? Fairly sure that wouldn't happen in real life. The game is easy anyway and this just makes it easier, should be the opposite. I can't even remember the last time I starved but now I have unlimited food to find, yays. This also makes server hopping more profitable, more of a chance of having guns respawned in airfields and such after people cleaned it out. Whereas with a server that's had no loot respawn for 3 days, there's obviously going to be nothing left. -

...why does loot respawn is that supposed to happen? Sounds kinda shitty if you ask me, you can just stand in a house that spawns food, get a backpack full and leave it in your tent? #survival If that's intentional they should really remove it, should only respawn like every 3 server resets or something so food becomes scarce. -

Guess there's not much point playing then since everyone has an excuse to murder each other :D -
I thought you were going to try say that that's the way it's meant to be played there...thank god. I have honestly only found about 4 people who didn't instantly try to kill me and NONE of them had guns. One guy I was partnered up with for a while, he didn't speak at all... I was just using chat but I told him to not if he understood and stuff and he did...why does nobody ever use chat? Only experienced like one person using it beyond myself. It leaves you open to attack sure but there's no need to be that paranoid, unless you're a slow typer or try it in the middle of an airfield.

Compared to ammo and guns though fishing gear is absurdly rare, namely fishing hooks not only are they rare and essential they're pretty damn hard to see against most flooring. It's just not worth it compared to hunting, it's only good if you're desperate and have the supplies or just want to do it for roleplay or testing reasons. They should add some kind of craftable, less efficient and flimsy fishing hook as well as a real fishing rod(rare obviously) then it would be viable currently it's just some niche feature to use if you're bored. Also one thing they should do is let us spear fish that would be great, knife + duct tape + stick, simple.
-
Assuming you're not getting attacked while all that is going on, not to mention you need to find a non broken axe for wood and throw it away while you get worms, which take up a ridiculous amount of space. It's just not a good option, finding canned goods, foraging for fruits or berries or just killing people for their food is insanely more viable.

Try the second definition of the word, being realistic as a person is completely different from something being realistic. Realism in a game has nothing to do with being a realist. A thing being realistic is having qualities similar to real life, just as something authentic has qualities similar to the real thing, in this case, real life. They do equate, their definitions are slightly different but they come to the same point and not nearly as different as people decide they are, not when it's a game trying to implement realistic features in an authentic manner or making authentic features as realistic as possible. The words are interchangeable, because they mean the same thing when it comes down to this game. Until we figure out that it's something different from dehydration we don't understand. Until we get better equipment to measure it which finds it to be 340.30 meters per second or 340.2999934847 same with the speed of falling. "facts" change very frequently. It's not really something you can disprove our understanding of everything changes over time, once it was fact that God created Earth 5000 years ago. Absolute fact and yet today it's obviously not, there are trees older than that. Anyway, in relation to this game and the things people try to separate with the words, authentic and realistic are exactly the same. -
What's wrong with the Mosin having a rail? I'm pretty sure it would have only been used for hunting anyway, just say they're all custom and be done with it. I wouldn't mind needing a screwdriver and time to tinker with it to switch or just remove scopes though.

This is the problem for me it can take forever to find an Ashwood stick, rope and a fishing hook and you have to do away with all that space. I think things like the hunting backpack should just have a slot for it, maybe for a bow too. It's just so much more viable to hunt or find cans of stuff. I mean on top of all that you need stuff for a campfire too as well as a safe place to fish and cook... They really need to streamline this whole fishing/campfire thing.

1. Just because it's a game doesn't mean it can't be as realistic as possible, it still tries to be realistic or else we'd just have health packs and ammo everywhere, there are merely limitations to what a game can achieve. 2. That's just how science and our understanding of the world works, go back to school everything they're taught will be different to what you learned or if you are still in school check back in 20 years, this is why most parents seem dumb about their kids studies because it's different. Our knowledge of everything changes with time, nothing we call "impossible" is until proven otherwise, we don't have the technology to prove otherwise much like we can't have definitive proof God doesn't exist(not that I believe in any) 3. Still trying to be realistic. They can't be fully realistic but it takes qualities of real life and incorporates them in to the game, it's not trying to be 100% realistic, it can't be but it's trying to be as real-life like as it can be much like a simulator. 4. Not wrong that's simply the limitations of the game, of every game they couldn't incorporate "butcher and skin every animal ever simulator 2014" in to the game. That's exactly the same as how you can use every gun and weapon in the game without issue minus the bugs. Unless they add some kind of activity(which would lead you open to attack) to skin and quarter each animal it has to be like that and such an activity is most likely something not possible for the games engine. That you have to skin them and not just hack them with an axe and instantly have some steak is a realistic feature, just limitedly realistic. -

How do you know that it's not realistic? Just because something hasn't happened or doesn't make sense doesn't mean it can't or won't happen, there is no such thing as "fact" scientifically. Just because zombies aren't true to nature now doesn't mean everything else isn't aiming to be realistic... The medical system aims to be as realistic as possible, the shooting, cooking etc zombies aren't that big a part of the gameplay right now they're just like included in this trying-to-be realistic and authentic game. The only thing, with the very minor difference, they're trying to make "authentic" currently are the zombies, that's only thing in the game that isn't as of yet a real thing that they're trying to replicate as best as possible. Every single other thing people claim they want to be "authentic" is something that's also aiming to be "realistic" So there's only slightly a discussion to be had about zombies. -
Poll - Why aren't people playing hardcore mode
UltimateGentleman replied to TimF's topic in General Discussion
Oh for fuck sake authenticity and realism ARE THE EXACT SAME THING. Jesus Christ read a dictionary... So many people here say that like it means a different thing. Realism = authentic =realism Like explain the difference, guns using the correct ammo is authentic, like real life. That's authenticity. It's also realistic to use the correct ammo, REALISM. EDIT if anyone else said that I haven't read through the past few pages so whatever. -
Poll - Why aren't people playing hardcore mode
UltimateGentleman replied to TimF's topic in General Discussion
A video game that aims to be as realistic as possible? Why in the fuck shouldn't I want something realistic? What a stupid statement. Never said it was but hardcore isn't any more realistic so I'm picking the one I find most fun, if hardcore was better I'd switch between both. -
Poll - Why aren't people playing hardcore mode
UltimateGentleman replied to TimF's topic in General Discussion
Because there's nothing hardcore about it and movement is in no way realistic so first person just annoys me. I prefer third person, it makes things both dangerous and easy, you can look over walls, see nobody is in a place and go loot it. But literally anyone could be on the other side doing the same thing and see you. So it's by no means easy mode as people like to suggest, there's also hiding in bushes using it. The only thing hard in hardcore mode is having zombies or players run up behind you and make no noise even though in real life you'd have to be deaf not to hear them, if they fixed the audio and made it realistic I might be inclined to play it. If it was also harder, more food needed, less food in the map, die faster etc. Same as night servers, if it's not made any sort of realistic then I don't care to play. -
So I updated my GeoForce driver and decided to click the optimize button for DayZ which put basically everything to low quality, which was fine really since the game ran incredibly smooth. But then something happened in the game and it went to the default settings, I think. Now the best I can get is: Note the left side being pushed out the screen and it being zoomed in a weird way, FOV setting doesn't put it back the way it was. Before automatically it was the right ratio to fit my screen and now after trying every option in the game it won't go back it's either too small or far far too big. Should I just hit optimize again? Nvidia seems to know how big my screen is but DayZ doesn't, for whatever reason. Forgot the error message that came up guess I'll optimize it and see if it happens again. EDIT didn't fix it at all. Other fun combo's include: No matter what combo of user interface and resolution I do it never fits the screen and I've tried all of them that second one is probably the best but the writing is so damn small.

In what way does that create a problem that doesn't really exist now? Admins already spawn gear for themselves, they'll always be bitches. Also accuracy should go up with confirmed hits on anything living not just shooting anywhere. Admins will always be a problem with everything, no reason not to include passive stats it would improve the gameplay for everyone who doesn't play with asshole Admins like that. Plus it should take 100's of hours not like kill 10 zombies and aim perfectly, not like it would be easy for even Admins to spam. And the W thing, when stamina is incorporated they're not going to be able to run forever anyway once they reverted to jogging it wouldn't do much. Assuming they don't just get stuck at a wall or something, name a stretch of land so long they could run for hours anyway... Maybe if they hacked a treadmill in. Also who said anything about perks? All I want is stats really but a starting benefit for a profession would be cool so long as everyone could hit the max regardless of benefit chosen. But that I'm not to bothered about just some kind of progression so it takes skill and planning to kill people not just hold shoot and swing the cursor about = win
