Can people stop saying...
UltimateGentleman replied to UltimateGentleman's topic in General Discussion
How do you know that it's not realistic? Just because something hasn't happened or doesn't make sense doesn't mean it can't or won't happen, there is no such thing as "fact" scientifically. Just because zombies aren't true to nature now doesn't mean everything else isn't aiming to be realistic... The medical system aims to be as realistic as possible, the shooting, cooking etc zombies aren't that big a part of the gameplay right now they're just like included in this trying-to-be realistic and authentic game. The only thing, with the very minor difference, they're trying to make "authentic" currently are the zombies, that's only thing in the game that isn't as of yet a real thing that they're trying to replicate as best as possible. Every single other thing people claim they want to be "authentic" is something that's also aiming to be "realistic" So there's only slightly a discussion to be had about zombies. -
Poll - Why aren't people playing hardcore mode
UltimateGentleman replied to TimF's topic in General Discussion
Oh for fuck sake authenticity and realism ARE THE EXACT SAME THING. Jesus Christ read a dictionary... So many people here say that like it means a different thing. Realism = authentic =realism Like explain the difference, guns using the correct ammo is authentic, like real life. That's authenticity. It's also realistic to use the correct ammo, REALISM. EDIT if anyone else said that I haven't read through the past few pages so whatever. -
Poll - Why aren't people playing hardcore mode
UltimateGentleman replied to TimF's topic in General Discussion
A video game that aims to be as realistic as possible? Why in the fuck shouldn't I want something realistic? What a stupid statement. Never said it was but hardcore isn't any more realistic so I'm picking the one I find most fun, if hardcore was better I'd switch between both. -
Poll - Why aren't people playing hardcore mode
UltimateGentleman replied to TimF's topic in General Discussion
Because there's nothing hardcore about it and movement is in no way realistic so first person just annoys me. I prefer third person, it makes things both dangerous and easy, you can look over walls, see nobody is in a place and go loot it. But literally anyone could be on the other side doing the same thing and see you. So it's by no means easy mode as people like to suggest, there's also hiding in bushes using it. The only thing hard in hardcore mode is having zombies or players run up behind you and make no noise even though in real life you'd have to be deaf not to hear them, if they fixed the audio and made it realistic I might be inclined to play it. If it was also harder, more food needed, less food in the map, die faster etc. Same as night servers, if it's not made any sort of realistic then I don't care to play. -
So I updated my GeoForce driver and decided to click the optimize button for DayZ which put basically everything to low quality, which was fine really since the game ran incredibly smooth. But then something happened in the game and it went to the default settings, I think. Now the best I can get is: Note the left side being pushed out the screen and it being zoomed in a weird way, FOV setting doesn't put it back the way it was. Before automatically it was the right ratio to fit my screen and now after trying every option in the game it won't go back it's either too small or far far too big. Should I just hit optimize again? Nvidia seems to know how big my screen is but DayZ doesn't, for whatever reason. Forgot the error message that came up guess I'll optimize it and see if it happens again. EDIT didn't fix it at all. Other fun combo's include: No matter what combo of user interface and resolution I do it never fits the screen and I've tried all of them that second one is probably the best but the writing is so damn small.

In what way does that create a problem that doesn't really exist now? Admins already spawn gear for themselves, they'll always be bitches. Also accuracy should go up with confirmed hits on anything living not just shooting anywhere. Admins will always be a problem with everything, no reason not to include passive stats it would improve the gameplay for everyone who doesn't play with asshole Admins like that. Plus it should take 100's of hours not like kill 10 zombies and aim perfectly, not like it would be easy for even Admins to spam. And the W thing, when stamina is incorporated they're not going to be able to run forever anyway once they reverted to jogging it wouldn't do much. Assuming they don't just get stuck at a wall or something, name a stretch of land so long they could run for hours anyway... Maybe if they hacked a treadmill in. Also who said anything about perks? All I want is stats really but a starting benefit for a profession would be cool so long as everyone could hit the max regardless of benefit chosen. But that I'm not to bothered about just some kind of progression so it takes skill and planning to kill people not just hold shoot and swing the cursor about = win

Who gives a shit? That's the kind of game it should be, the playerbase is a mess virtually every online playerbase is a mess even Minecraft is just full of uncooperative douchebags... What would be bad about DayZ being different from the typical mentality? It makes it an original game, currently it's not.

So? Then they can get better at the game and play smart or get their own friends. Good way to encourage interaction too. You have like no hope against people with friends now anyway so it barely makes a difference you just couldn't go YOLO, take one out and easily dispatch the others with his gun as your characters aim would be pathetic. Right now people mostly go find guns right away, emphasis should be on exploring and getting gear to survive not running to an airfield getting guns and shooting everyone. PVP would be so much more tense if you'd got your aim up for 100's of hours, if you died it would be a huge loss. You could respawn and maybe get your gear back again but it's not going to be easy for you. It would be a great way to make death matter. Yeah I thought of something like that too maybe prototypes should be damaged or worn and then when you master making it pristine depending on the ingredients. And then if it's a splint or other applicable item you have to use it many times and then you can apply it slightly faster. This system does give people who play a long time an advantage...but having an M4 when someone has nothing is already an advantage, if someone is going to kill a fresh spawn now they're going to die anyway. At least it would take KOSers longer to get good aim instead of picking up anything and being Aiming Jesus. I still see no legit reason why it would be bad just a bunch of people who don't want the game to make things more difficult for them.
-
Who said this exactly? You take it all wrong, I want us to have total shit aim, total shit bandage and crafting times, poor stamina etc in the beginning and then be able to build up to like what we have now or slightly better, nothing like perfect aim or instant healing. I want it to begin as a soul crushingly difficult experience and then be able to build up and appreciate a characters life instead of being able to YOLO everything and get geared up in less than an hour.

You get that having to take on people with better skills than you would be hard right? Honestly I'm not sure most people are just against this idea or if they just don't want any kind of challenge in a gunfight, if there's no chance of you losing or a very slim chance what's the point? It's that or you don't think you could handle beating anyone who aims better and reloads faster, regardless of their skills it's not like they're unbeatable they can still be stupid. What would be bad about having to play smart? Compared to the current LEL got an M4 = unbeatable unless against M4 just hold shoot and spray everywhere @hardcorebadasskillaz. How often have you been pit against an M4 user that didn't spray a whole mag at you right away? They act like people who've never used guns before and their in game skills should reflect that until they get better. Passive skills would be great the game wouldn't be full of people who do just take guns and spray bullets at everything they'd get owned by the people who've played many hours, they'd have to change their YOLO playstyle and get better at the game. There's no learning element in this game your character can do absolutely everything, no accidentally putting mags in wrong or slow or dropping rounds for rifles or putting bandages on too tight it's like while they were adrift at sea or whatever they had access to Googles wealth of knowledge and learnt all the things. Yeah servers with passive skills would be WAY more hardcore than just first person, you'd have to survive for hours and hours not just run to the nearest town find an SKS and ammo then be good to go to an airfield and get an AKM or whatever. That should never be possible but it is because nothing in this game is difficult other than trying to escape zombies while rubberbanding.

It doesn't really matter if admins could ban people abusing it I mean A) There has to be admins B) Admins will probably be the biggest culprits C) What good would it be if you got banned for it all the time by some cool admin that bans people for any minor offence to them?
-
No but if you get shot in the foot or arm you could still get to cover and fight back, depending on the situation whereas in this game you could duck behind cover and whoever shot you might be on the side you're hiding behind because there's no way to tell where the bullet came from, see the issue? Why shouldn't we talk about how things are IRL in a game that aims to be as realistic as it can be? That makes no sense.
-
Yeah we don't need to press T or something and see that we have 75/100 gun skill or anything just slowly over time have less sway with guns you use, greater stamina perhaps even go longer without food as your character becomes accustomed to the change in diet. Currently if things get bad it's an easier option to just kill yourself and start over but if your guy was excellent with gun sway, reloading, medical supplies etc then it'd be a harder decision indeed most people are too casual with their lives in this game but with a progression system dying would be a bad thing as it resets all of what you achieved. It would bring a better class of play in to the game for sure and a more varied and interesting style of game at that. If you want to take out that bandit you better be smart 'cause he can take his gun out and reload faster than you. How can people not want to be challenged?

This has been suggested before and it's basically 99% met with negative responses just so you know. I for one am the 1% it's boring as shit for me to have everyone be exactly the same like 50% of the appeal of RPG's etc for me is grinding my skills and becoming the ultimate warrior, it should work like that in game. Rather than everyone having perfect accuracy or being crap with guns constantly, you should start crap and get better everyone improves with time. We don't need perks or anything like extra damage or health but basic stats would be awesome you could really feel like your characters life is going somewhere. People who put 100's of hours of effort in should have better stats than someone who just started. Met with bandits or whatever who have lived that long and got better in each category it forces people to play smart instead of just run up to them and punch them and take their gear. Who decides this? If the game aims for authenticity, this is authentic. Why is everyone in the game just this random dude who knows how to use all the guns and shit? If you're a mechanic in real life what would be bad about being able to set your character as one? So long as any start bonuses for professions can be gained by all of them it works fine, say a doctor bandages 3 seconds quicker, if a mechanic bandages himself 50-100 times then he can do it in 3 seconds too. Nothing wrong with that. Very little skill involved in this game as much as people like to disagree with that the only things that determine success are aiming skill, awareness and luck. I'd like to fight against people who when stamina is incorporated can chase me minutes longer than I can run or can hold their gun steadier, it would be challenging and annoying but if they put the work in they deserve those advantages.

Maybe with all the military bases around they needed a special license for guns or something that's one way to explain it, not sure armies would like people shooting constantly. Bows are good for hunting anyway silent and deadly. A compound bow would be awesome as well as explosive tips so we can go full Rambo it'd be cool if they didn't kill in one shot but you could maybe rub the blue berries on the tips to poison animals or people and follow them to their deaths.
-
Yeah currently bolts and arrows are so rare the weapons might as well be classed as novelty weapons. I think for lighting fires they should add flint as an item anyway, so sticks + flint should make maybe 3 arrows. You should also need tape or string for them and a small hammer to shape the rocks(then they'd have a use) That would be cool. Perhaps crafted arrows have a 50/50 chance of breaking or something to balance it out, composite ones are what you want but crafted are easy to come by. Also yeah a craftable quiver is genius so long as there isn't a 5 bolt/arrow limit... And yeah I've not seen a quiver in forever not sure if they are in game. I'd like to have to use a crossbow or bow but currently fists are a more viable option.

Yeah I get what you mean but they are pretty much different types, or stages of infection? Either or. I would love a mod with like Silent Hill type creatures in it for a truly horrific experience but the base game should only have basic types nothing silly like exploding zombies or ones that leak infectious gas. The only kind I would somewhat like in the base game, that's a bit weird, is an Alpha type zombie. One that hordes follow basically, maybe it just wanders around and any zombies it walks by follow it. Sorta like that one black guy zombie in Land of the Dead but less intelligent. That could be cool, maybe you could shoot it and then the horde would go crazy trying to find you or anyone for that matter.

What's worse? Death or Unconciousness
UltimateGentleman replied to hiniberus's topic in General Discussion
I wouldn't know, nobody has ever not finished me off I only seem to get killed by boring fucks. Is it so wrong to want to be tortured and left naked to survive!? -
Well we have runners and monkey running zombies now so I guess the devs want different types :P I think there shouldn't be anything like ones who spit infectious blobs at you, too ridiculous. One's that howl, run, crawl, run like monkeys and maybe bigger stronger ones(like previously body builders) is enough. Spitters etc would be dumb, I think the focus of the zombies should be eating anything living not spreading the infection.
-
I think they should just stick with animals in the woods at night, zombies being everywhere would be annoying. We should always be in danger of course but just zombies constantly would be meh. I don't think we should have things like clickers, stealth will be awkward enough without them hearing us. Instead I'd swap them with howlers, weak as shit zombies(perhaps been zombies a while and are decayed) once they see you they howl and any zombies in the area swarm to it's location and after you unless you escape. That would be awesome. *sneaking around gettin' bitchin' l00ts* *ghastly howl* "FUUUUUUUCK* Anything sorta supernatural would be kind of dumb.
-
I wish they'd just add another rifle it's boring only having the Mosin, I think we have plenty pistols right now, CR, P1, 1911 + engraved version, Magnum, FNX, Longhorn, Amphibia. And then just the Mosin for rifles. AKM, M4 for assault rifles. Why no love for rifles?
-
Hopefully they add that soon I'd like to play through a night when the game day is shortened, I don't really want to play in the ridiculous darkness for like 8 hours with nobody else on it's not scary it's just annoying. I can see at night just fine even with starlight IRL, it's easy enough to see once your eyes adjust they should add that to the game. The brightness etc does change as though your eyes were adjusting but it should take like 5 min and to greater effect.
-
You should buy the standalone to support the development if you have the money. With the introduction of hunting the SA has plenty to do, it does get a bit boring but it's still playable and new stuff is frequently added, it's quite fun going on an adventure to find the new weapons or whatever added.
-
I don't think it needs to be so complex that we can make any colour just the basics. No need for rainbow coloured sets though they would be FAB. Red and blue spraypaint should be fine, I'd love it if they added that so we could have red and black guns etc etc also. There's not really that many clothes I'd want to dye to be honest, except maybe mountain backpacks. Just green and black would do, when we get bases have a black and a green set for each time of day. Awesome. Red and blue if you want though have fun being a walking target. Perhaps people could have blue clothing to signify themselves being heroes/police(or lie about it)
-
List of stuff, that should be added.
UltimateGentleman replied to jimmybqadri's topic in Suggestions
Yeah I think they should make it work like that when stamina is added. If someone is running around like 30 miles a day without sleeping they're going to be pretty broken. I think how time consuming stuff is is a large problem with the game, rain especially it can rain for like an hour. You can dry yourself off sure but what are you supposed to do sit in a house for that hour to not get wet or constantly get wet, possibly get ill and dry yourself off over and over? I guess it might be better when we have a 6 hour day cycle or whatever it's changing to.
