Is it time for single player mode yet?
UltimateGentleman replied to UltimateGentleman's topic in General Discussion
I wonder if they could make it boot a bit faster if you're launching the game in offline mode? It's pretty annoying having to wait like 2-3 minutes for it all to load up and be functional, can't even alt-tab to do other stuff while it loads. -

Yeah I have high hopes for single player in this, mods for it will be so fun I'd love some kind of zombie wave mode, no zombies for a day, then nearly endless amounts of them for a day. Plus/minus ammo crates and whatnot everywhere that plus the realism of DayZ would be win, shame it isn't implimented yet. Also hope it goes to console setting up co-op stuff is usally nice and easy on console would be cool to just play it with buds, set up some kinda turf war action! At least if you play with friends you don't have to deal with the tiresome in game community. -

Can we not? Sure I seen people saying they could, oh well. Thought something might be possible with the LAN or remote tabs. Oh well guess there's always playing on nearly empty servers assuming the connection holds up. Apparently at E3 it was said there was going to be single player I'm seeing now...I don't remember that  Can anyone verify? P.S I did search the forums but nothing came up searched for "single player" only mod stuff came up. -
Truthfully I've not played DayZ in...about a year now but I just re-downloaded it to give it another go and see what's different/fixed. Don't get me wrong not totally new as you can see from my post count and I have 152 hours logged on Steam. I gather there isn't a single player mode yet?(aside from hosting your own server) Any plans for it? I kind of want to just play it by myself and build as much of a base as is possible, live off the land and such. Having recently tried another game it kind of highlighted how annoying KOS is in this game, this other game(guess) is good because it's difficult to survive on your own...so people don't just automatically kill each other for funsies. A problem I expect will never go away in DayZ but I still love the landscape and mechanics of it. So is single player mode coming or nah? Assuming it isn't here already as I said not played in a year or so. (although Steam says I played it yesterday...which is impossible since it just finished downloading some 10 minutes ago...) I guess someone will mod it in at some point but it would be nice to have now.

I LOL WHEN I SEE ''DONT KILL FRESH SPAWNS''
UltimateGentleman replied to iDLC's topic in General Discussion
And part of the reason fresh spawns attack is because 90% of geared players will just shoot them anyway. If I'm going to be killed I want to at least inconvenience the guy with the gun or on occasion kill them first. Out of like hundreds I've met one single person with a gun that didn't immediately try to shoot me. Probably didn't have ammo. -

This is why I probably won't play the game until the full release. It's just not fun I've played 150-200 hours and have only had neutral interactions with people at best. By neutral I mean two fresh spawns that don't attack each other or particularly help each other. I just don't see why people enjoy shooting any and everyone like every other casual FPS game out there this is supposed to be different but the players ruin the experience if you don't just want PVP and that only. -

It's still kind of a dumb process though isn't it? You have to have their weapon equipped just to move it when obviously a real person could just throw it to the side, while still carrying a weapon. I imagine in future they'll add animations for taking backpacks off and whatnot so it probably won't be a case of making things teleport to safe locations before a dude wakes up. It kind of is though the way the game seems to work is in that situation it's like level 1 RPG character vs level 100 RPG character, the defence stat is too high for the former to touch the latter. But this game aims to be as realistic as possible so it's human vs human, stats don't come in to play. Wearing a backpack, assault vest, jacket, whatever trousers and having a few guns doesn't make anyone any less susceptible to being knocked out from a blow to the head from behind, they're still just a human being. No matter the weeks someone's spent to gather supplies it shouldn't make them unbeatable if someone gets the drop on them it should be possible for them to lose and not wake up seconds later able to fight back just fine with a pistol or something. I'm not particularly skilled at the game, combat specifically had very few PVP run-ins but I can still outsmart people but as a fresh spawn that aids me in no way besides escape, when obviously in real life you could sneak up behind someone and strangle them unless they had some kind of neck guard contraption. Such a thing could make it too easy of course but considering fresh spawns will have nothing once fists are nerfed, they need to get something, options like I suggested are one way of helping we don't necessarily all want to take everyones stuff just make sure they can't fight back. -

But as the game changes it might not take like 10 seconds for you to pull a gun out, entirely possible that a skilled player could kill you just because they can access what's in the vicinity unless handcuffed. Literally never done that only killed people while geared or relatively fresh spawns as a fresh spawn. The most I've geared myself up with by killing another player is getting a medium sized backpack. Why not? If they're chasing you around and you obviously won't get away without bitching out(combat logging) and you find a lead pipe or something, why should you not defend yourself? In a game that aims to be as real life-like as possible knocking someone out with a blunt object shouldn't be all that hard, the hard part would be catching them by surprise. Not once did I suggest that's how a person should go about this, that's obviously stupid and will obviously be different later on...hopefully anyway. How is it wrong? I know it's harder to knock people out than movies and TV shows but a heavy pipe + not being a child + the adrenaline of someone chasing you around is going to be plenty to knock them out. Vicinity, which they can still access. You can't move their items far away from them unless you do it bit by bit, shovel their stuff to your bag or invoke backpackception. If you knocked someone out and had to take their gear away for your own safety, would you leave it right next to them? No, you wouldn't. Also this should have an animation not a drag and drop kind of thing, with backpacks taking it off as you do a backpack then throwing it not having it teleport to another location. Fresh spawns aren't always going to be the fist throwing nigh immortal God's they are now, there needs to be some way to win over a geared player or else it's just stupid there should be some way to win. Obviously the current way is not the ideal way. -

Kind of inefficent though isn't it? What if they have like 4 guns and you already have one in your hand? You have to put your gun away, pick one of theirs up, drop it and repeat until they have nothing to fight you with. You can wake up from being unconscious in 30 seconds so if someone has like 4 protector cases full of weapons plus ones on their back you'll be out of time. As I said above it's a slow process, compared to just taking the backpack off and chucking it while utilizing the weapon they had on their back. There's no guarantee you'll find handcuffs though, especially not as a fresh spawn. Maybe someone's hunting you and you get the drop on them with a lead pipe and don't want to kill them just take some of their stuff, not necessarily all. It'd give people with nothing an efficient way to disarm an unsuspecting foe and a way to do it without unnecessary bloodshed. Perhaps you could find cuffs on them in a case, cuff them and become bro's even instead of just "Fuck it I might manage to kill them, I'll respawn in 30 seconds anyway" -
It would be cool if you could knock someone out and throw their stuff away, to the side or something. Like maybe you're a relatively fresh spawn and managed to knock a geared guy out, you barely have enough time to take his gun off him and check the rest of his stuff before the dude gets up. And then he pulls out a pistol and maims you unexpectedly, because you didn't have the time to throw it away. So basically what I mean is you can pull backpacks or whatever off an unconscious or incapacitated person and then throw them to the side, so whatever was in it isn't part of the persons inventory for them to quickly whip out and kill you with. Because it is a game not real life if they feel like you'll kill them they'll just think fuck it and try kill you, even if your aim is semi-non violent. For this purpose only so people can't wear backpacks and carry a spare in their hands, maybe they're too heavy and need tossed or something. Including guns tossing them to the side would be great unless you have an LMG or something picking up another gun for a few seconds isn't unfeasible. This feature shouldn't work on things in trouser pockets or combat knives in boots etc, that should require proper searching. Basically the first thing you want to do is disarm someone but they're not often unconscious for long.

Everything you're saying amounts to "I don't like console peasants they're all children" I love how you act like the playerbase is mature currently. Played the game 250 hours or something. I have met one person with a gun who didn't immediately try to kill me. And overall met 3 who didn't, two of those were fresh spawns when I had guns so that'll be why they didn't risk an attack. It's not like the game is fantastically hard to set up on PC it's just as easy as with a PS4. Buy it one Steam, download it and updates, play it. It's completely within access to children just as the PS4 version will be and of course more children will play it once the console version releases but only because generally more people will be playing it. People who don't appreciate any survival aspects in games and think Resident Evil is a survival game. There's definitely more people who just want to shoot others than to survive in the game, what's more satisfying for a shooter than permadeath? And yeah but you consistently get new things to try and play though once it's fully released and you know exactly how to survive almost every time it will most likely lose it's magic especially for people who haven't built up any kind of nostalgia around the game, that's what I mean. Like once you know how a magic trick works it's not enticing anymore. I'm not sure how they'll ever make it a continually interesting thing to play loot being in different places sometimes doesn't make it much more difficult or interesting to play over and over and there's no kind of end game just kill or help people until you die and do the same thing again.

Adult sized doesn't define being a responsible, intelligent adult though does it :P And it's not in the same genre per se but it will be treated as such, first person, guns, killing, zombies. It's in the same spectrum as far as what you can do goes. Also it could get very boring once everything is all there, as you've experienced all there is to see...why keep playing? I think that will be an issue PVP isn't action packed enough for it to be a popular PVP game as Battlefiedl and CoD's are. Who knows, maybe it will be completely different when it's finished.

This. It's not supposed to be a "fun" game in a traditional sense it's supposed to be enjoyable in a grueling and harsh way. If you want to meet up with your friends, meet up with your friends it'll happen eventually it takes like 30 minutes to an hour to run from one side of the map to the other just set a meeting point get there and wait it's not difficult. Be thankful you can co-ordinate such a thing at all. How about doing a test? Whoever wants this kind of feature and 3 of your friends go to a city none of you have ever been to before, each go to completely random spots on the edge. Try to find each other without phones or any communication, see how easy it is. So yeah be happy you have Skype and online maps that's the best you should and hopefully will ever get.

Age doesn't define maturity though does it? Lotta people in their 40's still laugh at the word poop. I wonder what other games will be on the market by the time DayZ releases to console because it will have some hard competition if there's another Battleield or CoD that looks decent(that will turn out to be a huge disappointment as usual) or any other shooters/survival games. I hope it's popular enough to be consistently playable it'd suck if after only a few months you're lucky to get a server with more than 10 people. How will they keep it fresh? It's a game that can easily get boring currently it's great fun to try out new weapons and features but once they're all there it might not be so interesting to play it daily.

Stop with the stupid hatred of console gamers, do you seriously think children don't play DayZ? Because get your head checked if so. Besides veterans from the mod half the playerbase is clearly made up of children. What are you even talking about anyway, plenty games don't let you run up slopes, most notably GTA V as far as recent games go and like every console gamer has played that so you're being unnecessarily hateful. The gestures are the main thing I think will be awkward to set up, although they could have an on screen menu for them like hold R1 and hold the right analog stick to the right to stick your finger up. Button + analog movement could work, at least it would be nice and fast and hard to get wrong. That or the touch pad, up to wave, down to sit, two fingers up to raise hands etc.
