List and description of new craftables in EXP
EndOfDayZ replied to gianni001's topic in General Discussion
Crafting is/will b3 an awesome addition, but the devs need to explain what can be crafted and how to craft it. I know discovering this is part of the fun but we all have different minds and would do things differently if presented with the same problem. basic things like 'cut and cook meat' or 'use matches on fireplace, are simple enough, but more complex construction needs instructions. I Want DIY melee weapon upgrades, baseball bat with nails, yes please :) -
Haha thats awesome, great video.

Hmmmm, awesome players..... Thankyou for contributing to the development of DayZ.

Brainstorming: Other food than cans that doesnt rot fast...
EndOfDayZ replied to Raoul9753's topic in Suggestions
You should be able to find ration packs at military bases, as an ultimate food. 1.5kg - 2.0kg, A few dehydrated main meals that just need some water added, tins of fruit and cheese and a can opener, a few sports drink powders, chocolate bars and candy snacks, biscuits, muesli bars, jerkey, some muesli. Kickass gear for DayZ that only takes up 2 spaces in your pack. I have lived off these for weeks at a time, plenty of salt and Calories to keep you full and energized, taste alright too. -
Petition: No more randomness in weapons, SKILL based combat.

But that would just be shooting "lasers" at one another, which would just upset everyone just as much. -

IDEALLY I believe you would need a weapon handling proficiency system where practice made perfect with each weapon, not the players practice, but the in game characters practice, similar to the Skyrim system. Unfortunately it isn't really plausible without being a huge pain in the ass to use though. Add realistic ballistic behaviour individually modelled for each weapon (cones of fire, recoil, rates of fire etc) and a realistic environmental effect system and it would be sweet. Then players could be affected by hunger, fatigue, injury, breathlessness, firing position and suppression, and it would be as close to realistic as possible without making it perfectly real. Unfortunately that would be super difficult to implement and not actually fun. SO IMO it needs a good middle ground, a little dispersion from different positions at different fire rates, more sway in different positions, and more sway when breathless or fatigued/hungry/injured/suppressed, and leave it at that. It works in 95% of other games (The S.T.A.L.K.E.R SoC Dispersion system is a FKING Nightmare!!) EDIT: Sovetsky concluded the same thing 20 seconds earlier haha. -

This is a fairly inaccurate statement. It takes a LONG TIME and A LOT OF PRACTICE to become proficient with any single weapon system. When you have a lot of experience with a particular platform (LSW/Assault Rifle/Handgun etc) YES it is EASIER to become proficient with other weapons quickly as you have the basic marksmanship principles nailed down and you have a lot of experience in the physical handling of weapons. You don't just got to the range, pick up your first ever assault rifle, point and shoot and a few hours later you are pulling off 400m centre of mass shots on moving targets from an unsupported kneeling position, just because your sights are 'pointing' at them. Simply holding a weapon steady is difficult enough, let alone properly aligning the eye/sight/target, using a correct breathing pattern, establishing and maintaining an effective and stable firing position, different types of sights, correct trigger manipulation, recoil compensation, the list GOES ON AND ON. Then there is fatigue, adrenaline, rates of fire, are you moving? are they moving? are you doing slow well aimed shots, are you banging rounds off flat out while looking OVER THE TOP of a set of optics so you don't get tunnel vision? I guarantee you without someone showing you how to do it, most people would be flat out picking up and holding a weapon properly, let alone loading a magazine with rounds, loading the weapon and going through the correct weapon drills and then effectively employing it over any sort of difference. Most people would pray and spray, then run. I am sorry I am not offering a better system to use, the random dispersion system isn't ideal, either is "Stop the sway" and you can hit someone 800m away with a scoped Mosin. I just don't understand what you want, if you think making it 'realistic' means everyone is a top shot with any weapon as long as they are holding the weapon still. Sorry to rant, I really am, I am trying to offer constructive input. I have doe a bit of shooting with different weapons in my 6 years as a rifleman and I am far from a perfect shot and still aim to improve every time I hit the range, as it is definitely something that takes years, not hours. Some weapons I am experienced with. Online Interactions are not Rated by ESRB.(is that the warning you get) I don't think we can stop the Godless Capitalist American Dogs from playing, however maybe you can just try avoiding them or playing on different servers (I hear the Russians are friendly) Is it possible you are just a dick and that's why they kill you? If your accent is funny when you say "Hello little American Dog" I can see what is going on here. I am white and have an Aussie accent and I get killed on sight too, even when throwing beans and bandages at people. People kill people in video games for no reason, it may not be personal. -

Yes 40m is a physically small distance, still far enough away to make instinctive or snap firing difficult with a handgun. Accurately stimulating the accuracy of a weapon AND IT'S FIRER in a game will always be immensely difficult. There are literally so many factors involved in accurate marksmanship that it is impossible to recreate in a fun and realistic way. -Basic Mechanical Considerations- Weapon Design and Condition Ammo type and condition External effects on the projectile (Gravity/Wind/Humidity etc) Weapons natural 'cone of fire' These (Among Others) will determine how accurate a weapon would be when fired from a vice or mechanical jig, in perfect conditions, without human input. When a person is firing the weapon. Firing position (Not just standing/kneeling/prone) the complete in depth details of a firers position, weight distribution, sight alignment, hand position, has a proper stable platform been established. You don't just point and shoot. Shooter Skill, how experienced is a shooter with a particular weapons platform, aren't we everyday apocalypse survivors? Not perfectly drilled special forces soldiers with perfect techniques ingrained from countless hours at the range? Weapon recoil and its effect on shooters. Physical condition Fatigue Eyesight Fear and adrenaline Rates of fire Speed of target acquisition and different fire types, are you taking deliberate well aimed shots at a stationary target, or bringing a weapon to your shoulder and firing rapidly at a moving target at range, while you move to cover? Video games just need a happy middle ground between hitting where you are pointing, a bit of sway, and some dispersion (a fair amount not a wild random amount) Then affect it by standing/kneeling/prone, or whether you are moving or stationary. Realistic trajectory is always welcome, just needs a small amount of outside influence thrown at it to affect it. I think BF4 is a good example, flame suit on standby haha. -

HOW IS HE GOING TO READ THIS THREAD IF HE IS DEAD!!! -
I never understood how in a zombie apocalypse, all the tanks get damaged and destroyed. How the F**K did zombies do that? Cool idea but it would be immensely difficult to defeat the tanks, short of dropping a Grenade down the hatch or introducing anti armour weapons. I think a more plausible and simple to implement idea would be to place a few artillery pieces around the bases, they would still be functional, easy to crew, crews could be killed by attackers with the weapons already in the game, and it couls fire HE or Splintex rounds. If a group was good enough they could call artillery in on distant areas using spotters and binoculars and a map and compass. would be awesome after base building is implemented, good way to remove an entrenched clan!

Not sure if you have done a lot of shooting in real life, but for an inexperienced, or only slightly experienced shooter, using an unfamiliar weapon, hitting a head sized target at 40-50m isn't really easy at all, especially if it is moving. -
Does anyone else think the backpack capacities are inaccurate?
EndOfDayZ replied to karlkurtz32's topic in General Discussion
The amount of stuff you can carry in your pack and webbing is outrageous in real life (ask any grunt) I can literally carry and wear so much stuff, that if it were in DayZ I would only need to fill it once a week. The way it is now ensures you constantly need to find food water and ammo, but I do agree you should be able to carry a bit more stuff than you can at the moment, perhaps a proper military pack and webbing combo would do the trick, but if you want realism then you have to understand you wouldn't be doing a lot of sprinting / jogging / crouch walking with 50 or 60kgs of gear on, and you would have to take your pack off to get stuff out of it. Filling up 10 Litres of camelback bladders and water bottles takes a long time too, and I've never done it at a well haha.
