EDITED - PETITION: Should a sound be made when we log on and off?
acdc_bag replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
Yes. That's how it's always worked. -
if you buy dayz now on pc will it work on mac when it is realised?
acdc_bag replied to smelyindian69's topic in General Discussion
If you actually like to do anything with your computer other than be hip, you should do yourself a favor and build your own PC. The new Mac Pro was outdated the day it arrived and you can build better for less than 1/4 the price. $4000? Seriously? That thing is going to be a dust collector by August. -
If H1Z1 will have squads and clans at early access why ...
acdc_bag replied to Demonio (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Because that is absolutely dumb and shouldn't be involved in any game that's dealing with "survival". If you want kiddy features like that, go play the broken mod. That's literally part of the excitement and thrill of DayZ, the only way you know it's a friend from foe is if you've been together and know what each other's wearing, constantly communicating, etc. The day SA gives "friend tags" for the entire build and release is the day I ask for my money back. H1Z1 is going to be the biggest Suzy Homemaker Zombie Bake a Cake simulator we've ever seen if they're going to do clan and friend tags like that. It amazes me that people don't have any earthly comphrension of the fact that H1Z1 is a Planetside 2 MOD. It's a MOD PEOPLE. If you're suprised that the Forge Light engine has ready physics that have been used for over 3 years now, and vehicle physics ready to copy, paste, and edit; you really need to get a brain. Sony is literally stealing all the "best" ideas from Rust and DayZ and mashing them together without much of a care for the end product. If you really believe that SOE has been planning H1Z1 for a long time, and it's been in the works, you're lying to yourself. Sony announces games long before they're ever going to see a beta. They slapped that game together in a matter of weeks and through some horribly rendered models in and threw in their EQNext Landmark placing system. H1Z1 is going to be a bigger flop and disaster than WarZ ever was. What good is being "finished" (even though anyone who has ever dealt with a SOE game knows they never finish anything, release broken "new" material when the old bugs still haven't been fixed, and then 5 years later it's a bugged out, completely different game than at launch? Nothing. What good are pretty graphics when the frame rate is shit or the gameplay is shit? I couldn't give a fuck if I was looking at wire-frames if the game was fun and entertaining. The turd pile that SOE is pushing out the door is neither good looking, full of features, or has literally a single new element introduced. It's a bunch of everything we've seen before or are hoping to see, and SOE just thinks they can do it better, and fill some "void" in the market. Anyone who buys the beta for H1Z1 will truly get the full fuck-you-over SOE experience. Enjoy the beta for a couple months before the entire game gets changed because a bunch of whiney 13 year olds can't handle anything, want everything handed to them, and all of the sudden the pay-to-dress market becomes the pay-to-win market when SOE inevitably will let all and any game advancing items/perks to be available for purchase with real life money. -
Because they would definitely just throw you out in the middle of a field in the middle of no where.... Right. Anyway, there should be a system like this now, anyway. Right now, with the removal of "reload" sounds when logging in, server hoppers and ghosters literally can and will have the drop on any single person making so much as a whisper's worth of noise. Log in and don't move, literally dont do anything but look around. You now have the advantage over anyone else who's been there for any amount of time, as they have no idea you just logged in next to them. Pretty dumb.

Sawed-off IZH-43 disappearing out of Hunter backpack
acdc_bag replied to MonkeyPunch's topic in General Discussion
This is exactly why items disappear from inventory and exactly why we need to have a better database system for what we are carrying. Items shouldn't just magically vanish just because the game decided you didn't have enough room to rearrange all of your gear the ass backwards way it loves to do, and disappear from your person completely. At the least they should be dropped to the ground upon logging in. It's been known about pretty much since the sawed off shotgun and larger items have been introduced into the game. -
You can say that. But then you'd also be completely ignorant as to how loading into a server has worked for virtually every single stable branch patch up until this one. Seriously.. Not until this last patch has there been such a long "Please Wait" and a delay before entering a server. The devs did fix duping, but now they've actually reintroduced it.

Yesterday I played the Mod after 200 hours of Standalone.
acdc_bag replied to Bambi Population Control's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you're actually impressed by that, we've managed to pinpoint how and who SOE actually manages to sell their POS games to. Oh man, they added and/or reused some particle effects and threw up some really poorly done jeep models. Wooooooohoooo! -
Just like I said, a hilljack name with NO POPULATION usually doesn't indicate good things, if newbie server hoppers can't figure that out on their own, they don't really deserve to be hopping for loot. A standard name with no population = a looting server that someone still shells out $70 a month for.
-
It permanently locks the character in restraints, and they won't be able to get out until they're killed. I also agree that rope should have a restraining option, and honestly, a melee option to strangle someone with. After all, it is rope.

Well when you have warping AI all over the place, yeah, it is "more difficult" -

acdc_bag replied to Bambi Population Control's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I got that far. Sorry but they just aren't a danger at all. They're bugged out pieces of malarky. I would hardly call the mod more difficult. Eating and drinking are miles easier, no opening cans of food on the mod. Bad graphics, lol. You must be one of those people that think ArmA 3 looks better in the same engine. Bravo sir. -
Hackers exist but they're not invincible, just highly annoying. I have yet to also encounter one beyond one guy who was doing some basic trolling and slow rate warping; except for every other magazine having 9,000,000 bullets because kids are dumb and don't just freeze the value... If you're joining a server that has some stupid name that does not look like a standard server hosting name, unedited, then you're probably going to get some hilljack server not connected to the hive yet or ever. Use your brain, Spock.
-
It's not necessarily that server hopping is frowned upon, it's how you can and some people do play the game right now. If you really want to get geared up and go fight people, you're going to have a hell of a time doing it on a 40 person server where at least 25% of people are really geared, and probably 50% at least have a weapon of any type. Until they change to private hives, and even with sub-hive groupings, server hopping for gear will persist. PS - Server Restart = Time goes to 12:00 > 8:00 > 9:20 > Actual Server time. See a server that's 9:20 AM? It just restarted. Uh oh, cat's out of the bag.

I'm constantly shocked they don't throw all development into vehicles
acdc_bag replied to huggalump's topic in Suggestions
Anyone who played the mod and thought vehicles and helicopters were the end all be all was playing the wrong game. They just allow you to get to places faster, make you louder, and definitely announce your presence a lot more than being on foot. In Standalone, they're going to be deathtraps and things you won't be able to touch if you really want to steal a working one. If you shoot up the vehicle all to hell to kill the occupants inside, well, good luck with all those ruined car parts you now need to replace before it starts. Anyone posting about vehicles at this point clearly has no idea what they were playing before or what they've gotten into now. Because we all know in Standalone, Cars will only need some scrap metal, four wheels, some windshield pieces, engine parts, and fuel tank parts that aren't ruined. (10) I don't really know what people are expecting DayZ to become. Are there people out there that think we're going to build houses/bases and just sit around hanging out without guns? Because you can already do that now, go claim a house and have your friends holed up in it, doubt you'll really last that long or have much fun just sitting in a house, ready to play the victim. Do people really think that's where the game is ever headed? This game will always be pvp, even if they make the zombies a real threat and something to work together against. People will never stop killing one another in order to stay alive, or to gain an edge and lose a second (or more) mouth to feed. -
Come on friend. You're server hopping for loot. If you can't figure out which servers to avoid for your 0 population looting, you deserve the reset. Sorry, but that's the truth. We experienced kind know what to look for and to avoid, and also that 99% of the time even if you encounter one of these servers, as long as you disconnect and reconnect to a proper server (IE one you've you played before...), nothing will be lost. Happy hopping.

Anyone else feel like the Anti-stab vest should be equipable even underneath a vest? Personally I'd like to see the ability to wear a jacket OVER a shirt (tactical shirt, check-shirt, etc), to increase carrying space. I think this would be a good balance between not being able to wear a Tactical Vest over a down jacket, etc, and would provide some extra protection for those who are able to field both. I like how the anti-stab vest goes into your "clothing" items since it has no room for items, I'd just like to see the ability to still wear a tactical vest OVER that :D

Personally I don't think people should be able to hide bodies just by clicking their mouse and moving on. If they want to implement moving/dragging corpses, that'd be fine by me. I think it's pretty stupid and immersion breaking to be able to just "hide" a body into the ether simply by rolling your mouse wheel. Corpses are a valuable information tool in this game. I don't think Zombie corpses should be disappearing either.

Pretty sure that artist just changed the type of grass texture that Visitor/ArmA was to load. I haven't gotten very far in the map making processes yet, but as far as I can tell, that's a simple change of the Sat layer that contains RGB colors for Visitor/Arma to load sand, dirt, mud, urban (cement), and grass textures, etc, into the maps. I believe they also used different tree models for that version of the map. In all honesty it really shouldn't be very time/effort consuming to redo some colors on the RGB Sat layer and re-render the map. I believe there are 4 different types of grass in Visitor/Arma map making.

DayZ is a paradox game - Random thoughts
acdc_bag replied to cuddly_rabbit's topic in General Discussion
Getting gear in this game doesn't take anything more than time and a server/area that hasn't been looted yet. Gear has no value in this game right now, until there's storage and sub/private hives, it still won't. Having good equipment can make a difference in any situation, however, plenty of fresh spawn with barefists have gotten the better of completely geared players, stolen a gun, and killed them dead. What did all that gear do for them then? Absolutely nothing. Anyone who thinks that because they logged into a 40 person server as a fresh spawn, and "geared up", all while on the same server and kept playing, whether dying or living at the end of the session is some sort of accomplishment right now, is kidding themselves. Just because you pulled the White Knight card for yourself doesn't mean anyone else cares, or respects you for it. I'm sure it's more exciting and dangerous, but 95% of the time I don't get on DayZ to meet new people, roleplay, or make new friends, I get on to play with my buddy and to get into shit. If I'm geared up with my buddy and we go looking for trouble, and we die, we either try to get back to our bodies for revenge, or call it a night and do the loot-hopping bit next time. Why? Because we have lives. I'm not interested in playing DayZ for 40 hours a week, 4 hours of which involve player engagements, and 30 of which are spent dying/gearing on a 40 person populated server, and 6 hours of running around the map. No thanks. Is that what I'll be doing when private hives emerge? You bet your ass. Is gear going to save you from getting shot at in the open? No. Gear may keep your character from seeing a You are dead screen, however, gear can't fix stupidity. Most often gear becomes ruined in firefights anyway, so yeah, if you're treasuring and holding onto gear right now rather than in-game interactions and gameplay, you are playing a completely different game. I'll use whatever gun is available to me, that said I'm certainly looking to move to a Mosin > M4/SKS as soon as I can. Why? Because I prefer semi automatic weapons and run in a two-man group. We don't really like sitting around sniping. Either way, I'm not going to be crouching bambi hidden weapon whenever something breaks out and log off to "protect my gear and character", either. That's not playing the game, that's playing a loot and hiking simulator with guns in it. Do you carry a gun for all these situations you're avoiding in which you'd use them? If so, why? If you're afraid of losing your gear, you're afraid of losing your character, if you're afraid of losing your character, you will surely be the one to die in every engagement you're involved in. -
Don't think that was necessarily his corpse as someone elses, but either way, the one kid either found the hacked magazine and kept using it or hacked it himself through memory injection. Was funny to watch you struggle killing them, but FFS man, aim down the damn sights next time, and you won't have to ruin their gear all to hell. Semi-automatic is also your friend. Press T.

I didn't say anything about it not snowing did I? Certainly be much easier to change all grass textures to a different color for Visitor to read them and load in a snow texture, than it would be to add physical snow that falls and collects on the ground, wouldn't it? Change the grass to snow, and change the rain to snow, walla.

DayZ is a paradox game - Random thoughts
acdc_bag replied to cuddly_rabbit's topic in General Discussion
It is the only multiplayer game I know, in which many people avoid any contact with other players and even when coming into contact, spend a lot of effort on not actually making (visual, physical, communication) contact. An avoided contact is a successful interaction for many. Only the people who think their gear is something worth hanging onto, and that they "earned it". It's the only multiplayer game I know, in which relevant numbers of people prefer empty servers to populated ones. The less players, the better. I do not know a single game that has that. Only for looting said "valuable" gear from above. DayZ spreads few players on such a big map that meeting each other outside of the few hot zones is next to impossible. And: more empty space/villages are being added. Even with 100 players there would not be a chance to fill that map, and I doubt 100 players will happen once zombies work. This was far less true on the mod when the inland areas were actually worth traveling to. The game was set up a lot different with the only hospitals being in the south, and the best loot in the game being at the NWAF. That's not the current set up anymore. You also sound like you've never played on a 100 person server, either. It is a Zombie game in which Zombies do not have any noteworthy impact, nor pose a real danger, nor add horror or atmosphere. I know, it's known. Still, funny somehow. You mean to tell me that the main class of AI, out of the two that have been proposed so far, AREN'T COMPLETELY DONE AND FINISHED YET? NOWAI This game does hardly feature "survivors". I would describe those as normal people dropped into extraordinarily bad situations. It mainly features psychopaths and sociopaths. There have to be other, yet undiscovered viruses. Likely breeding from boredom + lulziness + immaturity. In what way are we "survivng" other than staying alive while we play and keeping some food and water in our backpacks? When storage is added and players can actually stock up on items, if they die they're not starting from literally scratch, the game will change again. DayZ has an amazingly bad pvp system compared to many shooters, which is no problem because it is not even trying to be a perfect shooter per se. However its main focus at the moment is deathmatching each other, especially in "endgame", or aimless, indiscriminate killing of everything you see "because you can". I love how people call any game with PvP and death included is instantly a "deathmatching" game. If you don't like the pvp aspect and the fact that NPCs/PvE have NEVER been the focal point of the game, then please stop playing, because that's more than likely not ever going to change. If DayZ wants to go with a PVE approach and have us banding together to go out to 074,124 on the map every 12 hours to kill NpcBossA for phat lewts, I will go get my fucking money back from steam. You can just as easily not kill people indiscriminately. Just because most people don't do that, doesn't make the game broken. Almost all of your points sound like you have very little experience with the game, the mod, and everything about DayZ in general. I will agree that a character development system is needed (not that you really said that in so many words), in order to promote not insta-KOS and possibly engaging and interacting with other players that aren't on your voice chat already. However, even if they make a "Master Mechanic" or "Terrific Tailor" classes, players will STILL be just as likely to interact with a player, fix something up for them, and then receive a bullet to the brain the instant they've completed the job. That's the game, get used to it. -
Wouldn't it be easier and faster to just have different Season Maps of Chernarus? I think the most painstaking aspect would be taking the leaf trees and replacing them with barren trees for the winter. Be great to see a snow capped Chernarus eventually.

I got killed by hacking that has existed for years, <insert quip about model designers making hats and not programming AI> I love these hat comments. Why did you have spawning enabled on your server still?
