What makes you think they'll optimize this? You want to know what the optimizing team should do? Scrap the engine and use Forgelight. After all, Sony and Bohemia are all buddy-buddy now, don't you think Sony would let Bohemia use their engine? Also, I find the fact that Dean said that the PS4 development will "help" the PC development is laughable. Ports are in general bad. And trying to run Take on Helicopters with PS4 architecture? I'd rather watch a strobe light, at least it'll have better FPS.

Bohemia has never seriously optimized their games.

You're the one trolling, posting images without even writing text to incite a reaction. Also, I didn't make a bold claim. Bohemia simply makes terribly optimized games. You want my Evidence? Arma 1. Arma 2. Arma 3. Take on Helicopters. There's your evidence. -

I'm not criticizing the game, I'm criticizing the developers. They're not "Alpha Developers" are they? They're not still in college. -

Currently, as is, the Mosin has an unrealistically weak sound. Literally sounds like a hollywood gun. What I am about to present to you is an actual recording of a Mosin being shot and rechambered. Prepare your skull for its glory. https://soundcloud.com/gaerteuth/mosin-shot-and-rechamber (Triumphant Choir Music)

What Weapons Warrant Being Hyper-Rare and/or Regulated?
gaerteuth replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
Non-Soviet weapons should be rare, soviet weapons should be common as hell. Military outfits should be regulated, I don't like DayZ looking like its a military sim, I want to see civilian clothes on everyone. -
I get it! The kid with the gun was the one with no manners!

Think about this gun; it fires the in-game 7.62x51 round. In full auto. We're talking a gun with a 20 round mag that will instantly knock out an unhealthy player with a shot to the upper chest. As much as I want this gun, I cannot figure out a way to make it fair. Update The comment board has had several suggestions as to the nature of a 7.62x51 full auto rifle's performance. This suggestion holds that the G3 will retain it's 1 shot potential. The magazine will hold twenty rounds. The recoil will be like that of the Mosin's, perhaps more. There's a lot of powder in these cartridges. It will shoot at 600 RPM. It will be able to select fire to Single shot or Fully Automatic. It will have low dexterity (swings around a lot when you move your mouse) It will slow your movement slightly (this is a heavy gun).

How to fix freshspawn camping, deathmatch towns, and more with one easy solution. I have something that will fix the following problems: -People murdering an endless supply of freshspawns in the same area -Everybody migrating to a single town to deathmatch -Fresh spawns going to this town in search of unlooted bodies -Fresh spawns going to this town to punch out geared players -Fresh spawns suiciding to get to a specific spawnpoint -Everybody only going to one of the airfields -Everybody taking the same route around Chernarus -Extreme high probability of player interaction in a small area -Extreme low probability of player interaction in a huge area What can fix all of these problems you ask? Quite simple, really. It only requires 4 things to happen. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -Make all spawnpoints an equal distance from eachother,------ --Place spawnpoints all around the map, not just on the coast, ---Increase the number of spawnpoints available,------------------ ----and increase the amount of players in a server.---------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What this adds to gameplay: -You can spawn anywhere on the map, in any town, in any area. Your chances of encountering a player are equal no matter where you are on a map, because players can spawn anywhere, no matter how far or close to you. -You cannot be spawn camped by a murderer because of the random nature of the spawnpoints. They simply cannot predict where a fresh spawn will spawn next. Because of this, the murder playstyle will be forced to be more exploratory and hope to run into a player by chance. -You'll find an equal amount of people everywhere at all times, this also applies to airfields. Some will spawn near Balota, others will spawn near NEAF, others will spawn near NWAF. Depending on your surroundings, you may choose to go to one airfield because it's closer to where you spawned. -Knowing your surroundings and knowing the map will become more important to gameplay because of the random nature of the spawns. You need to learn to recognize which town you're in (which isn't that hard considering there are road signs everywhere) and also memorize where on the map that town is. -Compasses and maps will become more useful due to the more exploratory and navigational style of gameplay. -Fresh spawns have more time to find basic loot before encountering another player. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The only con of this is that while player interactions have equal chances of happening at all places, given that the size of the server is only 40 players, the chance of a player interaction in any given place is extremely low. However, the only thing you need to do to fix this is simply increase the size of the servers through the implementation of 64 bit memory, (which is planned), multi-core support (which is planned) and serverside optimization (which is planned.) Because of this, in the future this spawn system will be completely viable. ---------------------------------------------------------- Side note: if you type "tl;dr" I WILL find you. :3

Main Idea I'm frankly taken out of the immersion when I see text pop up that says "I am hungry, I am thirsty" etc. It's almost as if my character is whining to me. I suggest more subtle, immersive notification that doesn't require a hud at all. I'm talking of course, about sound. Hunger When hungry, you will hear your stomach grumble. Thirst When thirsty, you will breathe through your mouth slowly, almost panting. Even if you're not sprinting. Broken Legs When your legs break, you will yell in extreme pain, and continue yelling for a few seconds and then calm down. If you try to move, you will vocalize again and breathe in sharply. Sick When sick or poisoned, you will hear yourself gagging and trying to throw up. Eventually, you WILL throw up. Bleeding You will inhale sharply and make small murmurs every so often. Your heart will softly pound and you will also hear drips of blood. Wet You will hear water droplets dripping off of yourself.

Why must we have some kind of tool to open cans?
gaerteuth replied to nickspacemonkey's topic in Suggestions
I prefer the "grind it against concrete" method. -
You forget that you can still check your status in the inventory screen. My suggestion does not get rid of that. All it gets rid of is the constant text updates and replaces them with sounds. If you hear a sound, you're prompted to check the inventory screen, and any sounds you may have missed will show up there anyhow.

We don't feel things by reading. It breaks more immersion than it gives.

Think of it this way. If someone left their gun behind in the apocalypse for you to pick up later (I don't care how it got there, they could have died, dropped it and ran, etc), surely they would not keep their magazine without the gun, or vice versa. Now, not all guns would spawn with mags, obviously, but at least some should. For a multitude of reasons, which I'll explain here. Reasons The first reason would be to help players defend themselves a little bit earlier in the life cycle of their character. You find a gun with a mag, now you have the ability to defend yourself, simple as that. A server in which mags are rare will inevitably lead to monopoly, or end in server hopping to get the mags you want. The second reason would be more related to the intro statement. It's simply very likely that if someone left their gun, the ammo would be in close proximity to the gun. Perhaps not inside the gun, but nearby. Implementation Any given gun would have a 33 percent chance of spawning with a magazine in it. Any given gun would have a 17 percent chance of spawning with a magazine in close proximity, but not in the gun. Any given gun would have a 50 percent chance of spawning with no ammo nearby at all. Any given magazine found will have a random amount of ammo inside it. (currently, mags are always full). Probably not the best put together suggestion, but I couldn't find this particular topic in the titles of the "Similar Threads" and felt it should be expressed.

Devs: Use ArmA 3 content for DayZ content

No, I'd rather have original content than recycled content. DayZ is meant to be unique from Arma. -
Confusion is good. The "screen goes grey" system in my opinion is a perfect balance of information and disorientation.

Honestly, there should only be 6 or so civilian vehicles. Going with the "alternate brand name" schtick, For Civilian vehicles, I'd want: Bicycle Moped Jetski "Chetsy" Small Boat Pickup: "Fjord Z150 Truck" SUV: "Hand-Over"
