Minutes of daylight and hours of pitch black since patch
pabloottawa posted a topic in New Player Discussion
Hi guys, New to the game and wondering why ever since the patch 2 dayz ago, I'm always either in a server that is night time for hours on end or a server that is daylight for a few minutes (an hour at most) and then night time again. Seriously trotting around trying to defend yourself with a dinky flashlight for hours and hours is NOT fun. I even quit and went back to Battlefield4 lol Is this something that can be fixed on the server side by the server admin or something that is here to stay?.... If it's here to stay, I'm out as I'm sure many other fans will be. This should NOT be a mandatory part of the game. Server admins SHOULD be able to decide if they want a daylight server or a "real time" server and strong arming them this way is pure BS. -
How long Day Z to be released on PS4?

I disagree with the piracy thing but only with regards to all online games. You can't pirate an online game and still get on legit servers. Sure you can crack the single player campaign and that's fine IMHO as it gives you a good taste of what to expect in Multiplayer but today's online games are just not worth cracking, therefore the crackers usually just crack single player and leave it at that. In this day and age it's not a huge hit to their profits and if anything, it makes the person decide to buy the game. -

@Dekamme, Regarding a 3k price..... Keep in mind that my current setup consist of exclusively branded "gaming" gear. My monitor, keyboard, mouse, case.... These are the things that most people don't account for when they talk about cost. Of course I didn't put this together in one shot. It took me about 2 years to make a 3K system. I'm quite happy with it and most of my gear is hand me downable to the next upgrade I make but I'd say the initial cost over the course of the past 2 years was about 3K. -

So it's been about a week since the game has forced day/night cycles. Has this made the game any better? HELL NO. The server hopping is rampant to stay on daylight time and night time is reserved mostly for looting. I don't even get why they forced this. It's not like it's making anything fairer or more realistic. Players are just finding ways around it and locking brightness and gamma is NOT the solution. Do this and most people just won't play and move into another game. And for those of you that disagree and are going to argue this point; Keep in mind I said ***MOST*** and not **ALL**. I'm getting more and more used to night but that's only because with gamma and brightness jacked I can actually see stuff but it's not the way I prefer to play and once I'm done my night time looting I'll hop into a daytime server with friends and the fun begins. -

The biggest HUGEST most COLLOSAL problem with porting something this big and complex to console is not the consoles themselves as in the physical units. It's the companies that oversee and publish the console games for Microsoft and Sony. THEY are the problem and I speak from experience as we all know what happenned with the Battlefield franchise. Prior to 2006, DICE actually CARED about making a good game and they showed it with free add ons and maps. This was when BF was strictly PC. In 2006 EA Aquired Dice (bought them out) and the slaughter began. EA released BF3 with an absolutely SHIT netcode and glitching issues along with the problems the game was having being married to Origin and Batlelog. On top of this, hackers were rampant and despite youtube videos and proof, the worst thing EA would do is ban the player thereby forcing them to get another copy, THEREBY making EA more money. Fans demanded stricter consequences but were silenced by temporary account bans and forum bans (great way to treat legitimate players, NOT). Today, Electronic Arts is facing damage control and is involved with not one, not two, but FOUR lawsuits regarding the cluster fuck that is Battlefield 4 and they still continue with the bullshit. Refunds have rarely been issued and instead of a compensation effort with some substance like 50 dollars towards another Origin game or something along that line, they gave BF players more double XP weekends..... REALLY EA? There are many web articles backing up these statements so I don't care if anyone beleives me or not, Read up and make your own conclusions. I LOVED battlefield. Now I play DayZ to get away from it. Without going too much into detail Activision was the same with COD, I can't really talk about how the COD franchise is nowadays but I will say that after how they totally neglected the hacker issue with Modern Warfare 2 refusing to allow dedicated servers, they totally fucked up that title and killed it for many COD fans who played it on PC. Hell I was even hacking in MW2, along with 80% of the players. It was laughable to be honest and I never bought another COD game again. Conclusion. All this to say that porting a game from PC to console means getting in bed with HIGHLY greedy entities who will suck the life out of the development team and the fans and then leave the brand high and dry when it's dead and move on to the next brand. For lack of a better word I'd call it "vampirical". That's the issue I have with all this "Releasing it on console" business and it has nothing to do with which platform is better. -

Very interesting..... I'll check what I'm getting. I don't expect the numbers to be as good as they are in BF4 (70-120fps) but hopefully I can get slightly higher numbers. Cheers and thank you everyone for your advice. -

Well things seem to look better.... I forgot to check if there is still screen tearing so I'll look out for that later. Care to shre your PC specs? -

Thanks Jon, Question for you. Do I have to keep the Nvidia Inspector Profile window up on the desktop in order to keep the profile settings? Asking because when I click apply and then close the window and reopen it it goes back to global default. -

Thanks for the reply spudgun. One thing I've heard about the development of a game as complex as this is that the development teams are separate i.e. one side does graphics, the other does coding, another does implimentation. I'm betting that this is how many of today's games are developed. I just hope that there's more communication between the teams than there has been in the past with other games. That said there is the disclaimer that this game is still in its alpha phase of testing which I think is very smart on their part. I see nothing but great things ahead for Dayz but I really hope they don't cave to the temptation of fast money. It's the last thing this game needs (another COD like franchise). -

You know what I don't like about the development of this game? It's the fact that in the last patch there were way more important things to fix (like graphical glitching and performance) and instead we got silly little things like, we can see our own breath and all servers now force night time play. The real problems should be fixed before the development goes any further, otherwise they will end up with a collosal cluster fxxk much like BF4. Too many bells and whistles but the core of the game is too broken to fix. -

I think his point was just to look like an idiot. He's probably the type to kill on sight no matter how naked you are. This guy proves my point even more. It's these immature players that infest games like COD and BF. Please devs, for the sake of keeping people like this out, leave it on PC and NEVER get in bed with Activision or EA. -

SLI was the first thing I checked. I always enable it in Nvidia Control Panel. Also, since it's a 120Hz monitor there should be no screen tearing so I'm a bit confused as to why this is happening. Enforcer, yeah I get that it is a huge world and the view distance is quite far. Still though, if DayZ supports SLI, should t this be a non issue with *2* 4Gb 760s? I know it's still in alpha so I'm guessing they have not tweaked the engine enough to take full advantage of 2 cards and a 4.5 processor. -

It's an honest question and as for showing off, well, maybe you're interpreting it that way (don't really care). And although I am tech savvy, I'm not a specs monger so I'd didn't know the graphics engine was this limited. It's not like anyone tells you this the instant you buy the game. Anyways, can anyone with a similar SLI setup chime in with their advice Cheers and thanks -

I hope it NEVER comes out on console. When DICE created the Battlefield series they actually CARED about making a good online game and chose the PC platform to do it on. As soon as they partnered up with EA, the game went to shit and has not gotten any better since. If the creators of DayZ do the same, the exact same thing will happen. I would rather play a game that is this unforgiving and difficult AND realistic than play some profit mongering game that COD kiddies will want. I feel that in this day and age there exists a new generation of mature 40+ players who want to get away from the bull shit that the COD and BF brands have created and will gravitate to a game like this. This game is strictly PC and I really think it needs to stay that way. Console has it's target market, so does PC. Let's keep it that way and set the greed aside for once. -
Minutes of daylight and hours of pitch black since patch
pabloottawa replied to pabloottawa's topic in New Player Discussion
I agree and perhaps a really bright full moon can help shed some light on the night time aspect of gameplay. If you want to make it really realistic you can penalize a player by blinding him/her for a few seconds every time they turn on the flash light to simulate night vision recovery -
Minutes of daylight and hours of pitch black since patch
pabloottawa replied to pabloottawa's topic in New Player Discussion
Of course it's not worth playing this way. We all get into gaming to relax and have fun, not sift through servers trying to find something that suits your needs while waiting for minutes on end to spawn in. That's the arguement and your fanboy comments are the most idiotic I've ever read. It's not about wether or not we love the game, it's about wether or not the experience is worth the inconvenience and it seems that you like playing in the dark. That's fine and that's YOU, buts it's not me and I'm willing to bet that it's not the majority opinion. Bottom line is that we play games to get away and have fun and this is not fun. -

Minutes of daylight and hours of pitch black since patch
pabloottawa replied to pabloottawa's topic in New Player Discussion
I can understand that this is a survival simulation game but the issue I have with it as I'm sure most will is that if I can only set aside 3 hours of gameplay per day I'm not going to do it in pitch darkness. Think about it. You come home from a day at work, sit down to this game and now instead of just getting down to business, you are forced to sift through servers to find a daylight server. Combine this with 300+ second wait times to respawn if you accidentally spawn into a night time server PLUS trying to coordinate all this with your steam friends and this makes for a level of inconvenience that will turn many people away. You say the night time play is an integral component of this game, that's fine I get that but then you say we can find a server that has some daylight left. That's a workaround and not a convenient one for that matter. It's still a game and server admins should still have the option to choose. To the powers that be. PLEASE fix this.
