    Sniper's weapon of choice

I want to hate it but the combo I love right now is: Sporter + 30rnd mag + Hunting scope + Improvised Silencer Yeah it doesn't do the best damage but the low noise and recoil and 30 rounds meet you can plink-a-plink away happily and the ammo is everywhere. Edit: SVD looks good but not used. It actually looks a OP to me from what I've heard.

Why does this happen every single time?

    Haha - so true.
  3. Watched 8 in a row straight. Great job, sir! :)

    Stepped on a landmine!

If you're cunning you can hide a landmine kind of in or around a backpack. If you use a hunters pack or something like that then people come charging in with excitement to pick it u...BOOM!

    Instanced Zombie Horde

DayZ too open and "sandboxy" for missions. However, perhaps if there were random places on the map -- like heli's -- that had a large spawn of zombines spawned if you come close. Change the landscape or texture to resemble lots of zombies around (like a load of blood). You could tie a massive loot drop to the area based on the fact that lots of dead humans and zombies would have dropped a load of items. Something like this might create content that mid-large groups could find and tackle whilst standing a good chance of running into other sizeable groups or getting squad-wiped by zombies.
  8. The .55 combined loot (initially) and zombie changes pretty-much did that. Streamers on Twitch just kinda dropped overnight (and this was before GTA V was released). Alpha is limited in terms of how long you can play the "make bits and chuck them in to see what sticks" game. Pre-alpha and early alpha -- sure you get all sorts of things going on. However, DayZ is on the burn-down to beta and has an established player-base so breaking changes hit harder can shed players that might be hard to win back.
  9. Adding stamina with the current zombies seems like a pain. Currently fighting a zombie gets you hit several times -- I've found no way to fight them melee and avoid getting hit -- and due to the " " you're dead after about 50 hits without any way of regeneration. Therefore - if your stamina means you cannot outrun a zombie or there are not buildings closely that you can trap one in then you are inevitably going to die after encountering a few zombies. There is no game mechanic to avoid being killed from the "bone stat" and encountering a few zombies is inevitable -- regardless how sneaky you are. That, to me, seems like un-balanced gameplay.

    Spawning bear trap/mine protection

I have to say that nothing is as satisfying as catching someone, anyone, with a land mine. :)

    Multi screen while playing

http://dayzintel.com/dayz-guides/dayz-standalone-performance-guide Note the noPause setting. You need to run in windowed mode for it to work how you want but that comes with it's own problem (lower fps).
  12. I stopped playing with 0.55 - I like the survival game but I don't like the direction of hoarding in tents to survive and strugging to fine one can of beans for 3 hours then getting one-hit-killed by a zombie. It's just un-enjoyable game mechanics rather than 'hardcore'. 0.54 loot had problems but 0.55 direction was just wrong.

Dealing with Zombies in .55, unarmed

Yeah I've been doing that though once I got it wrong and the zombie got trapped in the house with me and knocked me out in one punch lol. Other thing you can do to get some range is run into a garden and volt over a fence - puts some space between you and them. At present there really is no point to attempting melee with a z even if you have a fire axe because they can KO you so easily and even with an axe it takes several hits, during which time there is no mechanic to avoid their punches. I like the new zombies in some ways but its a poor game mechanic if you always take the hits with no way of avoiding or parrying them.

Tents have now become more important than ever

Honestly I don't particular like the "feature" of dying repeatedly and running back and forth to a tent to stash loot. It kind of breaks the survival part of the "survival sim" if dying repeatedly is an unavoidable part of the game.

    Spamjoining full servers

    Queue would be awesome. Save me mashing the spacebar to "Connect" > "Restart / Retry" > "Connect" > "Restart / Retry" > "Connect" > "Restart / Retry" > "Connect" > "Restart / Retry" > "Connect" > "Restart / Retry" > "Connect" > "Restart / Retry" > "Connect" > "Restart / Retry" > "Waiting...." > I'm in! :)

    SKS or AKM?

Derp - my bad. What I meant to say was that the AKM requires a mag, which is harder to find in my experience than the rounds themselves. The SKS has a clip but it is not required.
  17. I've been playing DayZ casually on and off and at the moment I suffer the problem of not finding enough people. I don't care much if I'm being shot at or making friendlies - enjoy both. Just want to get exposed to more players. I play from around 21:00 UTC to around 01:00 UTC typically - is that a good time for your server?

    SKS or AKM?

The SKS lacks the ability to fit a LR scope like a Mosin and does not have the ROF that AKM has. So it's kind-of an in-between weapon. The SKS is not bad as such just that it does not excel at either assault or long ranged fighting. However, the SKS ammo iks generally easier to come by than AKM ammo, which can only be found in military barracks. If you're scouting then you'll probably be ahead and will prefer an assault weapon over a rifle. So probably the AKM. Personally, it would depend on the scope. Both the AKM and SKS are so much more useful when scoped. If I found a PS01 scope I'd stick with the AKM and plan to loot up some military sites to get more ammo. If I found a PU scope I'd look for a SKS and use that. Finally, you could try dual-carrying (i,e one gun on your back and the other in your hands) but this can get annoying, you can lose one accidentally when you eat etc, and you risk getting flustered if thrust into a combat situation or zombines.

    LongHorn pistol

If they're fully healed and clothed then probably not but it's likely to wreck them and their gear fairly heavily. In reality a lot of people are running around with less than full health and of course you can go for a headshot. Also if you are in cover you will probably have time to reload whilst they hide, bandage, or try to spot you - giving you the opportunity of the second shot. Personally, I'd stalk someone until they got into a fight with a zombie and took a hit. Then headshot or hope to finished them off during or when they bandage. Zombies it will kill with one shot but honestly I'd learn to drop them with an axe because it will greatly reduce the chance of respawns and other players killing you. Yeah going for the leg would be a good option.

    LongHorn pistol

That depends a little on your play style. The longhorn has the following specific advantages. 1) It comes with a built-in scope that makes it an exceptional medium-range snipe weapon 2) It fits in a backpack. 3) Uses the same ammo as mosin and blaze, which is not too hard to come by. 4) Its a short weapon so visibly more covert. Basically it makes a great town and city window-sniper weapon where you will be shooting over a medium range and want to avoid having a massive barrel hanging out of a window. However, it has two fairly considerable down-sides 1) It only takes one round so for close-range it's a do-or-die type of pistol that is easily outclassed at close range by most other pistols in the game 2) It's noisy. If you're lacking a scoped weapon and/or have an assault alternative too (like another pistrol, an AK, M4, maybe SKS) then keep it I'd say.

Trouble finding tents sonce .49 stable patch

Never knew you could do that with a book! Thanks

    Do you consider this glitching?

It's an exploit of an unintended game feature. The kind of thing that is against many game EULAs.
  23. Back after a break playing DayZ; I've played about 8-9 hours total over the past couple of days and I've not had a character last past hunger / freezing. Been failing to find the basic survival loot too keep me warm and simple food etc. I've been reading about some of the recent changes, for example the fact that doors are randomly open now and loot spawning has changed. However, even armed with this information I'm struggling to get the basic loot collected. I tried filling up on applies from trees, water from the lake and wondered way inland but then I die of hypothermia. Tried busy servers, empty servers, same void of loot. Eventually I found a jacket on top of a cabinet but of course I cannot reach that haha! Frustrated and convinced I must be missing something I visited almost every building in Svet only to find endless broken hammers and a load of glow-sicks. The rave on the roof of the factory was wonderful until the Z'ed turned up and I got hypothermia. Anyone throw me some tips as to making the most of the current loot mechanics, please? What am I missing... Thanks

Loot in 49. - What am I missing?

Thanks for the advice here. Running inland was a near death experience and I got knocked out twice, starving most of the time. But finally stumbled across a burlap sack and the bits to make a bag. And a stroke of luck finding some food too and... shotgun and ammo in a barn. Running into Stary warm, healthy and a little bit of colour coming back! I even managed some kind of 'look'... Looting up is always one of the best parts for me. Probably start looking for heli sites or something next before I get shot in the head and start all over haha!

Loot in 49. - What am I missing?

Absolutely. I really like these changes a lot. I especially like that fact that not every piano house contains a rifle and ammo, etc. I'll try dodging deeper into the map again. It was raining last time iirc so that probably didn't help the temperature situation. Thanks , Wack.
