Has anyone noticed that people have become more friendly?

I almost always wear one, but that is because I often crouch to shoot and zombies one hit kill you crouching if you haven't got one on. Personally, my bad luck has been with clown masks. Anyone in one of those has always shot without a word and not given up until one of us is dead. Clown mask = deathmatch.

    DEER?!?!

I have seen one cow (in a town), one pig (field), and three deer (always fields in the NW portion of the map). It seems that fields are the absolute best place to find wild animals (never in the woods oddly enough) and they are all easy pickings. Crouch and wander up close. Smile at them and make friendly gestures before landing one solid axe strike to the head. Down they go and you now have a meal fit for a king and a lovely hide to take home.

Has anyone noticed that people have become more friendly?

I haven't noticed greater friendliness. What I have noticed is lowered hostility. Not the same thing. With the new zombie situation, people seem more willing to ignore you instead of shoot. First, shooting you attracts the horde. Second, if you run around, the horde follows you and not them. Third, you might take out a number of zombies and clear a temporary path for them. Most of the people who still have the KoS attitude are also constantly plagued with zombies in the towns so either die, run out of ammo or are logging off to wait for the next patch. Just a guess though.
  4. Tents following you through servers is never going to happen. Why? Because the odds are that one tent is going to overlap another and do something stupid code wise. Worse yet, I might be sitting there in the woods minding my own business and suddenly a tent appears in front of me. Sure, I'll probably loot it, but it is going to be utterly surreal and out of keeping with the rest of the game.

NEW UPDATE: what the **** have they done?

I waver back and forth between the need to vent about issues like this and the sense that people need to relax a bit more. I think the "This is Alpha" card is entirely called for with anyone talking about ragequitting. I am currently feeling like the venting on this one should be allowed, but pooled and folded into a single posting merge. I needed to vent yesterday myself after a very frustrating session of being chased by unavoidable, unhittable zombies from the moment of spawn and getting stuck on a roof twice because they would track me strait to whichever side I was going down even without a line of sight and crawling to make minimal noise and shooting them just drew more over to replace them. I think people need to let it out a little when they lose hours of work to a broken code. Is this vented frustration constructive? Probably not to developers now. To the player though, it lets them let out a little of their pent up frustration and voice their thoughts to a few others who might agree and thus salve the wound. Maybe there should be a forum section exclusively for venting frustrations so that the rest of the sections and threads can be left to more constructive things while still allowing people a chance to get frustration off their chests. Are we frustrated with the zombies right now? Yes. Are we quitting? Not most of us. I think the average person complaining still knows that things will shift again in the next patch or two to balance better. It might include new imbalances, but we do realize they are trying to find a good balance and work out bugs.
  6. I am finding they hear gunshots just fine. Since melee weapons are extra hard to use now and you generally have another respawn in the area before you kill the first, gun is about the only hope. If you are alone and shooting, expect it to never end until you are dead. What is starting to annoy me is that they can find you even when a normal human being would have no chance. I had some follow me up a set of stairs, around a building, up a ladder and down around the other side of the ladder (it ran to mirror my location below from what I can tell) all without line of sight. I also had them running around to meet me down below on other occasions. With the limited ammo and other issues, it is getting very hard to have any hope when you are a fresh spawn! (just found that out dealing with hardcore for the first time in a long while)

Things I immediately noticed about today's release...

Guess morphine just shot to the top of my trade item list! Or for that matter, my personal inventory list. .

Things I immediately noticed about today's release...

These! It went from seeing one or two zombies per town on anything but the big three to suddenly seeing twenty in one town last night. Half of them were hoppers and even when you weren't moving around they would show up out of nowhere. Lone wolfing in a town cost me way more gear than I wanted to give up and now I am concerned that I may not be able to enter towns without a lot of backup at all. With that said, I actually do like the feel of 'hordes' that you have to deal with. I wish they didn't randomly spawn and attack while you were stationary, but that is it's own issue. What I noticed last night was a town with multiple people in it and none of them wanted to shoot each other. Everyone was too busy taking out zombies and the idea that anyone might be there helping was too valuable to lose. Some zombies still pass through things, but thankfully the ones who do usually do so because you closed a door and then can't come up through the floor anyway. I've had zombies stuck outside of walls that I could shoot through windows. I have had zombies stopped dead (pardon the pun) by doors and when I have forgotten to close a door, I have had them follow me up multiple flights of stairs. They don't seem to ever lose line of sight any more though and hound you relentlessly until shot no matter how much you weave through objects or how much distance is between you. The scope sway has made sniping of anything other than a few motionless zombies all but impossible. It takes the patience of a saint to hit an unmoving target anywhere further than 200m and if you manage to hit a target on the move at 500 or more I am going to be convinced you have sold your soul just to improve your video game skill and luck. Still, works as a nice binocular at least.

    Archery: Bows, Arrows, etc.

I said close enough, I never said accurate. It represents something without having to find 8 sticks of varied length, etc. The thin stick is a stand in and really doesn't matter much. If they were really that worried about being accurate or authentic, every single tree and bush could be chopped down to get an endless amount of sticks, firewood and twigs to do all sorts of things with. There is basically zero chance of the devs doing that, so I say a new skin that better represents a usable bow for the improvised bow is a very minor problem and can be ignored in favor of developing out the more advanced bow options and arrow options. Hell, I would never spend as much time in this game as it would take to find the number of sticks and rope to make a good improvised bow when the number of items it takes to make a good bow instead would be the same size or shorter list. Hell, you and I are on the same side... I just disagree with the need to have devs reskinning something when they could better be spending their time adding new and more varied things to increase the options of gameplay.

    Archery: Bows, Arrows, etc.

Point of fact, give me some greenwood sticks and some paracord and I can make a serviceable bow in no time flat. Around 40 to 50 pounds of pressure and just as accurate as anything you can carve. The down side is that you have to tighten everything up after a certain number of shots and every so often one of the sticks will break requiring a replacement (take the whole thing apart and rebuild it). I would say the current improvised bow is close enough. Sure it only uses one stick, but that is a minor issue for me. I will say however that I disagree with your low damage aspect on the improvised bow. (I have seen these things do very deadly force at a reasonable range of the same degree as can be expected from an inexpensive manufactured bow.) Everything else though I pretty much agree makes sense. Doubt anyone would want to take time to craft, but if the items are rare enough (Optional sinew instead of string might help too) then it is likely to simulate the work put in through the long time just searching for components.

Isn't item permanence counterintuitive to permadeath?

It seems like it would be easily resolved by having the tents tied to your life. As long as you persist, it does. The minute you die, the tent either disappears, or better yet, begins to break down. I would love to see it where after you die, a tent and it's contents begin to degrade under the assumption that the original owner isn't attending it any more. Items begin disappearing as looters run across it, etc. Sure, you might get there in time to get some items, but nothing is pristine any more and who knows what has gone missing. Worse, you have to find a new tent since this one is now unusable.

Things I immediately noticed about today's release...

I had only seen one pair to date. It was before you were able to add the knife though, so they didn't make any difference. The update notes on steam mentioned 1, 4 and 5 I know for a fact. I don't recall if they mentioned item 2 and 3 though.

    Throwing Gun

They don't play fair like the rest of us because if they did, they'd never get off the beach. They would have their character die every single encounter. Zombie or player alike. Since they can't win fair, they decide they will use hacks to overcome their lack of ability and to ensure they are safe. It lets them feel a sense of superiority over the rest of us since any hope of feeling the elation of success would otherwise be out of their reach.

It looks like this is going to be a fixed issue soon! If I am reading this right, they already have the shotgun fixed in experimental. The next time they update the stable, we should see the shotgun at its full glory!!! Woo Hoo. Now if I can just stay alive long enough to see that happen. Sawed off, five snap loaders and half a case of shotgun ammo in anticipation.

    power of the note

This sort of thing is why I try to always have at least some sort of note on my person. Even when I can't really afford the space. I think that it can create a lot more fun for the people around me. Sometimes it is just a 'journal' style page, other times it has some random task listed that I am trying to accomplish. With the latter, I always try to make sure it is something that can be accomplished. I can't begin to guess if people have ever read a single one of them, but I suspect at least someone has.

    Bipod not accepted by Mosin

I hadn't been playing much in the last month or so, but today I finally located a pristine bipod attachment for my Mosin. I went to go add it and it stays red, refusing to accept that it is even allowed on the gun. I have tried going to a different server, logging off entirely to restart the game and I have removed other attachments to see if that is the issue. So far, nothing seems to be working. Is this problem unique to myself or is there a known bug/glitch happening that I just missed hearing about thanks to being inactive for a bit?

    Bipod not accepted by Mosin

Ah... Oh well. I almost never fire at anything beyond 200m anyway, but since I found it, I really would have liked to attach it. Tossing it instead. Thanks for the info.

    Interaction with objects

I would love for the initial barricade system that goes into place just being the ability to move tables, chairs and other furnishings around in houses to block off doors and windows. I suspect it would take a substantial rewrite of the way buildings are in the code, but would still be an amazingly fun way to work on blocking off a building.

to the friendly guy i shot

He probably did that because he had to step afk despite where he was and figured if he was in the surrender position, people would just loot and run or at least not kill him outright. That, or he wasn't responding because he was taking time to try and type something without a mic.

    sawn off episode 931204

I have had a lot of success with the sawed off shotgun myself. It seems worthless against zombies and takes four or more shots to kill one sometimes, but I have torn up several human attackers with it at a range of about five feet. One shot instant kill each time. So far, I haven't run into the bug affecting my person kills. Is it a bug that only affects things some of the time?

    very wierd running bug

Just out of curiosity, did you have a weapon in hand while he had none? Also, were you doing a normal run or a sprint?
  22. Honestly, this would be a solid solution. It would keep all of the aspects of 3p that are important to someone like myself (You know, like peripheral vision and the like) while eliminating a lot of peaking (granted not all of it) from being a problem. A fixed camera instead of one I can rotate up and down would mean no more looking down over walls and such. There'd still be a little around corners, but not nearly as broken overall.
  23. I personally loath first person perspective outside of aiming in this game. For me, it lowers my immersion. That sounds stupid and insane of course, but bear with me a moment. In the real world, I have a number of senses. In the game, I have two. I can see things and I can hear (somewhat) things. I can't feel when I am cut in the game, I can't smell the scent of sweat from the guy who was running through the area just a moment before me. I can't even really tell where sounds are coming from in the game all the time since half the time a guy running over gravel only makes a faint sound, but I can hear a clip reload several buildings away. When I am in first person in this game, I have the ability to see what is in front of me. I have to guess from what is happening there if I have been hit, if I am bleeding. I have to guess what condition my clothes are in if I am unable to risk going into my inventory. The gray screen effect does help somewhat for deciding my condition and if blood is spewing in the front, that is far more obvious. There are other issues as well. If I hide in the woods RL, I am supremely aware of my position in relation to a tree or bush. In first person, I can never tell if I am still under it or not since sometimes I am covered and sometimes I am sitting in a gap. The list goes on and on. Death is the end of your gear in both versions, so the only difference in them is the perspective. I find myself more cautious when I know other people can be in third person. Yes, I can peak without exposing myself, but so can they. Any advantage I gained is also gained by my enemy. I am forced to be more aware of things while on the move. You don't have to like 3rd person perspective, but don't think that gives you the right to say no one should have it. They have two modes for a reason. Each can play as they like. 1st person perspective in this game ties my hands up in so many ways that they aren't in a real world setting and 3p gives me enough extra data to make up the difference in what I lose over real life. I do get it. If you only look at it from an exposure/risk perspective, why would anyone play 3p unless they want a cheating style advantage. If you feel that way, awesome! Glad they have Hardcore for you to get away from the wall peekers. Just don't assume that all of us are looking for a way to cheat as being the only reason to prefer 3p.

    Survivor journals

I do this when I can, but haven't found much paper lately. I learned quickly that even though it lets you write as much as you want, only the first bit is able to be read. Kind of unfortunate really. Limits what you can offer for the people who find it.

I believe charcoal is for the chemical sickness. Antibiotics are for the sickness from rotten food.
