Turn off Bloom for one, set the video memory to default, and make sure that the 3d resolution is the same as your monitor resolution. Fiddle with the other graphics settings, like view distance, details and the filters. If that does nothing to improve your fps in any way then im assuming your video card is badly supported for Arma.

Bad version, server rejected connection.
species5021 replied to Craddus's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Try using sixupdater for Dayz, i had the bad version error a lot after installing 1.7.1.5 and just went ahead with it, it fixed any error i had previous to using it. -
I had the same problem, not sure what causes it. Try reinstalling sixupdater.

It sounds like you are missing the beta patch. Sixupdater fixed most problems for me, try this. Uninstall sixupdater, delete the @dayz folder from the operation arrowhead folder. Run both games untill atleast the main menu, then exit the game. Install sixupdater and let it run, when in the six launcher main window with the server list make sure its set to dayz (if its not from the start then use the arrows to switch between mods) Then when its on DayZ press install and let sixupdater do the work for you. Hope this fixes it for you!

Difficulty equipping hatchet as weapon
species5021 replied to sneed's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
The axe goes into the main hand rifle/weapon slot. If you have the axe in the tool belt, right click it and press remove from toolbelt, this should put it in your main hand slot. If you have a rifle or something else in the main hand, it WILL give a no inventory space message. If that slot is empty, and the axe will still not transfer then its a glitch of some kind. Good luck! -
Dayz - bad serial number given in setup
species5021 replied to ephox (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
You need both Arma2 and Operation arrowhead to play DayZ. Install both, start both untill atleast the menu screen and lets sixupdater handle the rest. Good luck! -
Lots of problems, any help yould be great!
species5021 replied to justeverything's topic in New Player Discussion
Heya! Welcome to DayZ! Best start is going to the new player discussion and checking some of the topics there, it helped me a lot at the start. No shame in reading them this game is about survival after all! Basics are this, movement is WASD, with Q and E being used to look around corners. Z makes you go prone (lie down), X makes you crouch, less visibility and sound generation for zombies to see you. And C is for standing up, most speed on foot, massive sound and visibility generation for zombies to spot you, do NOT use this around zombies! On the numerical bit of your keyboard if you press Enter you will go into 3d person mode, makes a it bit easier to walk around, check for zombies etc. (this is sometimes turned off on server, generally the veteran ones) If you double tap ALT you will switch to mouse look when in character, you can look around with the mouse but it locks you into a single direction for movement, repeat double tap to get out of it. Double tap shift between running and walking. Switch chat channels with < and >, while press / to start typing in it. Thats it for movement and camera. Press G to go into the backpack, this is the main screen where you will eventually see a main weapon like a rifle and axe and below that the pistol slot with its own inventory space next to it that will only hold bandages and pistol clips. Below that is the utility belt, your flashlight will be in there already and other items you will find like the combat knife and matches and the map etc. On the left of the backpack you will see a text representation of whatever is in your pack, so you should be seeing bandage, flashlight and painkillers there already. Below the main hand/weapon slot is an icon that looks like a backpack, if you double click that you will go into the pack, notice that the text on the left switches to coyote pack and probably looks like this. Coyote Pack 8/8 This means that in that backpack you have 8 empty slots you can use to put stuff in. The backpack takes anything, so you can put anything in there, pistols and rifles though take a considerable amount of slots to carry in a pack so use space wisely. Thats pretty much it for item management, now this is where we throw you into the deep water. Unfortunately your generation starts without a gun, so unlike us vets who had it easy starting out you are pretty hardcore already! Check barns, anything with doors open. Check houses with a scrutinizing eye for open doors and windows where you can see trough into the house itself, you can enter those! Loot piles can be anywhere, if you see a little heap of items walk over to it and press G, or middle mouse. If you see a sort of round icon with arrows in a circle with a weapon in the middle press G and not middle mouse, middle mouse makes you pick the item up but in most cases your pack will be full and you will exchange good stuff for bad stuff that is on a zombies corpse like a tin can for a can of food. Axes dont count atm, just press middle mouse if you want to pick one up. Server wise, i have the filter set to dayz and i join servers with atleast half full population or above, servers that are empty usually have some sort of error going on preventing people to fully log in. I generally filter on ping, while joining europe servers during day time play sessions and switching to american servers when the EU servers start going dark. That's sort off the basics, i could write 8 pages or more with stuff i have learned to stay alive. But this will have to do! I don't envy you starting out for the first time with this patch, good luck and be carefull in the city's! -
Might want to fix the topic title you are using, you are not having bad lag but having very low frame rates in game. This happens a lot, the arma engine is pretty badly optimized atm, they are patching a lot of it these days though. The main problem is having an old system you play it on. I have a quad core and a gtx 460 with 4 gigs of ram and i have to play it on low ish settings. Having a dual core and an onboard graphics card is unfortunately not good enough to be able to run it comfortably. If you really badly want to play the game then i'd suggest it is time for an upgrade. Good luck! ( on a side note, fps is also very server dependant. You will experience the smoothest session on a server that has just restarted and the worst on a server that's been running for a while with no restart)

spawning in debug forest - all gear lost.
species5021 replied to Vile (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I have the same problem, my char has been alive for a while now and has accumulated some nice gear and yesterday after playing with my brother i suddenly ended up in the debug forest. Server hopped a lot to see if it would clear but it just switches between debug forest and the endless plain. Monday should bring a patch that will fix the debug forest, but if it will fix people that are already there, we'll just have to see. Starting over is the name of the game, it sucks but can't do a lot about it. (i raged a bit in the debug forest so i stole some guys morphine injector har har har) -

There are multiple sort off kicks from server, can you give any more info on what the client says when it does it? -
[GUIDE] Installation Guide (Steam, Retail, Mixed, Beta, Common Errors)
species5021 replied to fox808's topic in New Player Discussion
Current version is 1.7.1.2 I made a guide but yesterday i tried six updater, although the program isnt very user friendly it works like a charm, got issues with dayz after using sixupdater, then it probably got nothing to do with Dayz but everything with your computer, sorry. -
Ive spent the biggest part of the evening dodging super zeds everywhere, super challenge mode activate? lol. I had the lee enfield when i logged in and when i shot it i had an endless train of zombies coming after me because of the small spawn time. I also walked into a barn and promptly died, which smarted a bit. Respawned with the new spawn stuff, exciting! Crawling made hard, crawling over door tresholds made me promptly stand for some reason?! Crawled trough a couple of towns because the super zeds saw everything! Found a winchester, checked a couple of deer stands, found an AK. Left it in the stand because if the lee enfield can activate zeds two footballfields away then i sure as hell am not firing that. Exciting patch, needs some tuning! Keep it coming!

[GUIDE] Installation Guide (Steam, Retail, Mixed, Beta, Common Errors)
species5021 replied to fox808's topic in New Player Discussion
The guide is great, BUT it does not explain how to install the beta patch when you are using Steam. It is explained in this post here http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=9314 I'd love to see the details from there added to the sticky so more steam people can have the beta patch installed, especially since 1.7.1 will need to have it installed. That guide also doesn't tell you that you can still add the -no splash to the end of the launcher command. My current launch command is this with the beta patch active, works fine. -beta=Expansion\beta;ca;Expansion\beta\Expansion -mod=@DayZ -nosplash Hope this helps some people! (P.S) I made a forum account to add this to the sticky but my activation mail got put in the spam folder with Gmail, website devs might want to check that out!
