Need a comprehensive gun/ammo guide
zombieland78 replied to zombieland78's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
now that's interesting. I shall take note of that splitting deal. yeah, I know that about the ammo but I've done that before and had it not work, so would like like a definitive list somewhere. Cheers :) -
More Realistic and Time-Consuming Interactions
zombieland78 replied to Damnyourdeadman's topic in Suggestions
I like the idea of taking an animal back to base and skinning/gutting it. I'd suggest you can get, say, 4 steaks if you hastily take it from the body while out in the field, but if you craft a butcher's table you can take the thing back to base and then do your longer, multi part skinning/gutting. Forget time though, just have an ingredient list if you will - several steps that need to be followed to complete the whole process. After all that you get maybe 12 steak from it and a fur shawl. As an addition, it would be great if you could get water, seasoning etc. and craft a large pan. You could then make soup and perhaps have it make 24 meals (providing you have 24 containers). -
Consequences of low morale: Slower at running, generally slower at other things such as bandaging. Maybe weaker aim with weapons. If morale reaches zero, player may commit suicide spontaneously. Consequences of high morale: Opposite of above, so faster running etc. sharper aim, less prone to infections. Ways to build morale: This is where I think it gets interesting. Ways in which to build morale would be to take shelter in rain or if you go out in rain then wear particular clothing to prevent loss of morale. Building a campfire is the age old method of keeping one's spirits up when surviving in the wild, so this would translate here too. Sitting down around a campfire with a number of players could even build morale that would be undiminished for 24 hours thus providing motivation for amusing hang out time in-game. This could even lead to parties, lol. Eating, drinking etc. also perk up morale. Having a dog could definitely have an effect on morale. Team work and helping others could also affect it positively. Ways to lower it: Being out in the cold/wet. Being hungry etc. being alone maybe. Mainly I think this notion is a way to make building a community inside DayZ sort of profitable within the game rather than just for a laugh. Being in a group, hanging out around camp fires, maybe setting up a camp etc. And in terms of realism and immersion, this aspect of apocalypse survival would definitely translate into the real world. Any thoughts on what else could raise/lower moral and the various consequences?

Sorry if this seems off topic. I wanted to practise sniping AI bandits and found a video from Rhinocrunch whereby he made a mission for just such a thing and made it available for download. It's only a single .pbo file that weighs 74kb and all the info I can find on installing pbo files assumes you're trying to install a whole add-on. I just want to access the mission from within Arrowhead. Edit: I figured it out. Here's a link to the video which talks about the map and where to download it... To install just place it in your missions folder in Op Arrowhead. Then access from single player menu.

is it standard practice to not allow players to build bases outside of the map area? and also, I was wondering about tents? Could you put up a tent outside the map area and expect it to stick around?
-
is this only for vanilla or can/will it trickle down to the various similar mods i.e. Epoch? (sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm not familiar with intricacies) :)

All servers going down (Why ? =Because it's Maintanence Day).
zombieland78 replied to xploD's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, sorry to bother. Here's a quote from the wiki: Weekly Server Maintenance (Updated February 4, 2014) As of February 5, 2014 "DayZ will have a weekly maintenance period. Every Wednesday, at 0700 GMT servers will go down for 3 hours." Posted by Brian Hicks @Hicks_206 via Twitter -

Just bought SA, fired it up and there are no servers in the internet tab. Been playing the mod for a while and never thought about how to best find servers for SA. Used to using DayZ Commander. What shall I do? Edit: after much refreshing, and setting max numbers to 1000, I got one server showing up. It wouldn't let me connect saying "max players reached" but player numbers are 0/40. -
3 fps - could someone check this hardware spec?
zombieland78 posted a topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Just writing on behalf of a friend who I just got into DayZ. After a week of installation problems (and I wonder if that's an element to the issue?) we got it running and played a couple hour session with his laptop running half decent. Literally the next day he jumps on and is crippled with fps as low as 1, as high as 5, averaging around 3. Same server. Same everything as far as we can tell. So, point 1 - if his spec handled it once, surely it can handle it again. Here's his spec: Windows 8 64, 8gb ram, GeForce GT 425M card. Recently purchased, not an old overloaded machine or anything. Point 2 - he lowered all his settings to unbearably low (in-game video settings) and it made zero difference. Also updated his graphics card drivers. Any help greatly appreciated! -

he just installed Razer and is now getting around 25fps! won't hold our breath but so far it seems to be working :) many thanks for that suggestion. If it keeps happening I'll update so fingers crossed. -

Will get him to install that Razer Gamebooster, thanks for the link. Really annoying coz we had a session a couple of nights ago that was fine. He tried to join us again last night and got 2fps again. Same server, same everything. I'm fairly certain he's aware of any potentially draining processes running in the background. He also tried regular Arma II and it runs perfectly. -
been playing Epoch for a few days now. One of my characters spawned without a backpack and in all my hours of playing I've never even seen one available. Where is a good place to look?

Need help finding a mod that Frankie played once
zombieland78 posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So this mod featured Frankie building like a hut somewhere. You have to gather a ton of resources and then build/craft this single encampment thing. I think it had heads on spikes out front and a bed inside? Ring any bells? Can't for the life of me find the video he did. Cheers :) -

Ah yes, that's the one. Thanks :) -
[EDIT: sorry, this should be in the mod suggestions section] Been playing Epoch for a while now and reckon this would change things quite significantly. I had a town house as a base recently and just had to ditch it because, despite having a locked wooden outer door and a locked reinforced steel inner door, upon crafting ANYTHING (or running) the zombies would just walk through the doors and up the stairs to eat us. I have one screen shot of a our hallway floor COVERED in corpses due to accidental firearm discharge. This aint realistic. So here's a suggestion that SHOULD be straightforward to make: axing up a tree and yeilding, say 6 lumber (from 12 wood stacks) allows you to craft one barricade (windows size, may need two for a full door size). So you know how zombies can't attack you when you're standing very close to a vehicle? Just add this same function for the barricades. Also prevents zombie line of site for when you board up windows etc. This should also be implemented for any locked door. Apparently there is a script available to do this currently with any buildable object. So like I say, shouldn't be hard to implement.

Keeping zombies out of buildings for Epoch
zombieland78 replied to zombieland78's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Oh, right. Sorry I thought that 'mod' just meant that it encapsulated all the DayZ mods? -
DayZ Mod is getting an update soon..
zombieland78 replied to Irish.'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
All sounds good. Glad it's still getting developed for us Arma II players! But still no way of keeping zombies out of buildings. Even with closed/locked doors. For me that's the only thing I'm waiting for (besides the odd bug fix). Oh and Breaking Point style fog. -
Me and my friend are constantly wetting our pants trying not to die all the time, so we've decided to try and build somewhere to put our stuff. The issue is that we need to do loot runs but all our precious harvest is on our possession all the time. So here are a couple of questions: - Trying to build a little hut with a lockable door. Apparently you can only find locks on business suit zombies. This sounds a bit far fetched in terms of likelihood and meanwhile we have an unlocked shed! is there a better way to get a lock? Maybe they can be bought? - Leaving our stuff under a bush - if one of us left a backpack under a tree and went off to loot, does it definitely stay there until server restart? - And same question for tents? Or do they stay there semi permanently? Cheers :)

Is Breaking Point still going for Arma 2?

Just fancied trying out Breaking Point. Is it still working for Arma 2? And still has servers? -

oh man. Yeah I mainly wanted to play for the fog. Are you saying that DayZ X and A3 Breaking Point don't have the fog? sometimes it's the little things. -
3 fps - could someone check this hardware spec?
zombieland78 replied to zombieland78's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I'm pretty sure he tried that initially. Coz he basically went into his settings and turned everything so far down he could barely see anything. And was still getting about the same fps. -

zombieland78 replied to zombieland78's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
right, well it's kind of odd. I asked him to fire up the game again, confident that it was something like Windows maintenance and thus would be quick now as opposed to last time. Sure enough it was quicker for him, at once stage getting up to 20 fps briefly (although a little up and down in quite short time frames). So I told him my theory but he said he was aware of Windows maintenance, and when it was previously slow he had checked that every possible app and system tool was not running. He's also tried Arma II Operation Arrowhead and said that was totally smooth. -

zombieland78 replied to zombieland78's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Hmm, that really sounds like it makes sense actually. It could well be that Windows or something similar was working quite hidden in the background. He only played two times, the second time being when it was bad and hasn't tried since, but I'm almost willing to best that if he played a third time that it would be better, and that it was something running in the background. Worth a shot. Will report back. Thanks :) -

zombieland78 replied to zombieland78's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
well, in terms of measuring performance, he never once mentioned issues upon first playing it. So good enough to not even notice fps. Next day it was utterly unplayable at 5fps and less. we were playing the mod. First on Panthera, then he installed Epoch and got the same result on an Epoch server. What does the -42% mean? Edit: here's the min spec for Arma II - http://systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/requirements/arma-ii-operation-arrowhead/10994/?p=r When I look at the min required GPU it scores about 250 on videocardbenchmark and his scores about 650. My laptop scores 1000 and runs it totally fine. Probably around 25fps at a guess. My PC runs it at 40-50. I'm going to have him play arma II on its own. But there's no reason why he should suddenly have that frame rate drop so much. -
Trying to build a door in Panthera - wiki isn't helping
zombieland78 posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So here's the link to the building wiki: http://dayzepoch.com/wiki/index.php?title=Modular_Building_System and I'm trying to build a door (large door locked I think). So far I've built a door frame. But you'll notice that a large wood door locked (and a few others similar to this) require 'ItemWoodWallWithDoorLg'. But, when you actually check out the recipe for 'ItemWoodWallWithDoorLg' part of the recipe is 'ItemWoodWallWithDoorLg'! which makes no sense. That's like saying, to build a box, first of all you need... a box. Any idea how to proceed? like I say, already have a door frame up. And I have a lock which I found.
