Thunderdome - A bad thing?
Stridsbulten replied to Noise (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Of course its a bad thing. It has nothing to do with the premise of the mod. -
Absolutely disappointing playerbase
Stridsbulten replied to vibe's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Actually, the fact that people WANT to ALT+F4 is a good thing - it means they are afraid of dying which is important for a game like this. The fact that they CAN ALT+F4 however is bad, because it means they can cheat. In a perfect world there would be a disconnect timer which left your body in the world for a certain time when not logging off properly, but it seems the Arma engine can't handle that. -
Will arma 3 engine be plagued by hackers too?
Stridsbulten replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Apples and oranges. While you are right in that the rendering capabilities of the enginer is impressive, its multiplayer features leave some to be desired. I totally get that they wanted a mod friendly engine that was highly adaptive and easy to create stuff for. That doesn't necesserily exclude making it less vulnerable than it currently is to hacking though. There is a huge difference between server side missions / mods and client side scripts / hacks. -
Actually, no. I would like them removed because being sniped from 800 meters doesnt really qualify as fun in my book. Most of the times I have been killed have been by other players. About 75% of those times I have been sniped, one shotted and killed. The other times have been real fire-fights or engagements where I actually got to SEE the person who killed me. Being sniped by random .50 cal ghillie gankers in DayZ is about as fun as being sniped by random AI's in ARMA - that is, not fun at all. Keep sniper rifles but get rid of .50 cals. That would require snipers to actually have enough skill to hit a vital area in order to one shot, instead of just hitting you in the hand and killing you.

Sniper spawn chances screwed?
Stridsbulten replied to HighPiez's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Congratulations on completely missing the point. Problem with reading comprehension maybe? Or just plain stupid? Probably both? -
People shooting unarmed people, why?
Stridsbulten replied to kitta's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You are right, except Rocket has provided no tools to stop these players. The game is stacked in their favor, heavily. Anything we can do, is only temporary. And since many of this guys either hoard, dupe or use scripts they are back in business pretty much directly after respawn. Us killing them impacts them very little - they killing a new player or a casual gamer impacts them alot. There HAS to be a social control function in place. There has to be consequence to being an asshat. But without a social frame work, that can never be. And a social framework in DayZ is impossible because: 1. Pretty much everyone looks the same, it is hard to tell people apart from appearance. 2. An area cannot be locked down by a group of players because of server hopping and script kids. So outposts / communities cannot be formed. 3. A killer is usually anonymous and can never be traced - in any way. 4. There is no negative side to killing other people because human life has no value. Until that changes, rampant killing will continue. Only the devs can provide solutions to these problems and make sure there playingfield is evenly stacked. The players themselves cannot do this currently. -
What do you do when you have a ghillie and decent weapons?
Stridsbulten replied to General Dickbutt's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you are playing the game just for the loot, you have managed to completely miss the real charm of Day Z. It is not a loot or stat hunting game. It is about surviving. If you found all that gear, good for you - now see how long you can keep it! -
Had a similar run in with a guy called "Rubber Tarzan" yesterday in Cherno. Had just died recently and was a fresh spawn. He gave me some of his weapons and gear and sent me on my way. That kind of restored my faith a bit in the DayZ community, I have only had KOS encounters the last month or so. Thanks, RT!

RE: Private Hives and 'The Rules' - (Update from Rocket inside)
Stridsbulten replied to Anton17's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I have been playing DayZ for little more than 2 months or so. I tried a private hive for the first time yesterday. I had a MUCH better experience than I have had the last couple of weeks on regular hive servers. Why? 1. Friendlier community. Out of the 4 players I met, 3 were friendly and the fourth shot me in the back. On regular Hive servers, 4 out of 4 would have been shoot-outs. 2. No tent or .50 cal saturation. So high end gear is rare. 3. No hackers. 4. No server hoppers! (one of my biggest gripes otherwise, people combat DCing and flanking to get an edge on you). 5. Higher stability, better ping, faster loading times. 6. There was tension and excitement again. With a new KOS culture, without knowing where to find tent camps and l337 gear and with a more level playing field everything became much more fun. Sure, there are drawbacks too but I like the option of playing on regular hive servers sometimes and private servers other times. -
what's the best solution to stop server hopping?
Stridsbulten replied to tarquinbb's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
1. Don't allow log in or log out in or near buildings. 2. Don't allow log off during combat. 3. Add a 10 minute login cooldown for those that drop link / log off during combat (if point 2 cannot be resolved). 4. Send a warning to any player within 100 meters of anyone logging in "Player joining game in your vicinity". 5. Add a temporary penalty effect for a few minutes after logging in, call it a "Wake up effect" (slightly blurry vision, slightly lowered movement speed etc) -
Sniper spawn chances screwed?
Stridsbulten replied to HighPiez's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There shouldnt be .50 cals in the game to start with. Nor rangefinders and NVG's. They turn the game into a snipers wet dream at the expense of everyone else. -
Military compound with hostile NPC; solution to lack of end game
Stridsbulten replied to Dogsdogsdogs's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Incentive 1: A compound will become a viable place for trade, first aid and relative security. Incentive 2: A compound will become a base area for communities, clans and gangs. Incentive 3: Make tents only save items as long as your character is alive. Compounds are the only location to permanently store gear. -
Military compound with hostile NPC; solution to lack of end game
Stridsbulten replied to Dogsdogsdogs's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Why not add compounds that players can control instead. -
So don't use the tents. I mean, its your own choice.

IMO pistol nerfs = bad | Other weapons = bad
Stridsbulten replied to pwnage13371's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I actually like that pistols can't one shot zombies anymore. Forces you to go for headshots or quickly bleed through your ammo. -
Why is there so many pussy's on DayZ
Stridsbulten replied to @Williamcullum1's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
OP - Feelings in a computer game are just as real as any other feelings, the fact that the game is virtual doesnt change anything. And feelings of guilt after ruining someone elses experience is a HEALTHY and normal reaction. And we all know that in most cases, when someone dies in THIS game, they tend to feel a bit upset because of the time and effort they have invested. It is not like killing someone in CoD or BF, because there is no investment. If you don't get that, you really haven't thought things through. -
I have worked hard for my tents. Taken great consideration into their placement and into the gear I have stashed at each (basically setting up three supply depots on the areas I frequent most containing food, water, medical supplies and basic guns and survival gear). I shouldnt be punished for what some duping asshats do. These tents are key to MY survival experience in DayZ. Solve the duping bugs instead and punish those that abuse them.

Do you guys feel bad for killing people?
Stridsbulten replied to Xantos123's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Totally depends on the situation. In a scenario that the OP described, no, I wouldnt feel bad. It was him or you. You won. Good for you! -
Moral values and Dayz - A Discussion
Stridsbulten replied to Atanar's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There is not much to it. In the early days of the mod, a certain type of players were attracted. It was mostly tactical sim players, explorers and survivalists. Most of them would have no issue shooting down other players, but it wasn't their main motivation for playing the game. There were other factors deemed more interesting, like the interaction with other players and the survival aspect. As the community grew, more and more people of a different mindset joined in. They were mostly interested in shooting other players and the thrill of the competition. At a certain time, we reached a breaking point where their number became big enough for all the other players to adapt a much more aggressive posture in order to survive. This will not change by itself. The only way to change it is to form actual communities on the respective servers. People who know each other are far less likely to randomly engage you for kicks, unless that is socially acceptable within that community. -
Sins of a hacking gamer...
Stridsbulten replied to DigitGreen (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
How the heck do you randomly lose a backpack (or anything in one) when swimming? -
You all know that DayZ is an MMO too right? Massively Multiplayer Online? Or is 700k people playing with and against each other online not massively enough for you?
-
I met the most kind guy in DayZ so far. In cherno.
Stridsbulten replied to unit82's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Only on the internet would a cowardly, back-stabbing douchebag feel like a winner. People like the OP are part of what makes a great game lousy at times. -
Is there any way to get out of debug fields alive?
Stridsbulten replied to chunkeymonkey79's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Then you are screwed. Unless you want to wait until sun sets / rises and get the direction that way. Once you have the direction, sun south-east. That usually works. -
Run back to the world. If you have a map, put out a way point and run for it. Otherwise, take a gamble and run south east. Eventually you should get there (can take up to an hour though).

I have flattened camps in the past. And I have left others be. It depends on the camps location in relation to where me and my friends operate. If it is close by, we consider it a threat and wipe it. If it is far away, we consider it a resource pool and raid it on occasion.
