What is this compulsion to kill unarmed players? Cowardice?
-
There is no challenge to shooting an unarmed/minimally armed player. I won't do it. What might they have? A can of beans they cannot open and a flashlight? Huge threat, there. But, keep it up, coastal targets (oops, I meant bandits) and see how it all works out!

Prone in a bush far from high traffic areas...

A compass is a huge help, and should be a priority.

I have been lost several times. One rule of thumb when really lost...go one direction. You will hit something eventually. Follow major roads/power lines, if necessary. As you are exploring, pay attention to the landscape. Is it trending upwards in elevation or downwards? That can clue you in as to direction, i.e. if you have been heading North and the terrain trends upwards, you can return South to by going downhill. Prevailing Westerlies - clouds move west to east.

And some ammo, too! 2nd trip to Balota today. Picked clean.

Why, thank you! Great tune!

I'm an utter newb and have done pretty well so far. Encountered a guy at Balota who was sort of pinned by a zombie. Killed the zombie, waved at the guy, and went on my way. It did help that he just had a melee weapon and kept it on his back. Current character, got shot up by some jackass in Elektro. Since I didn't know where he was, I just ran... I had nothing of value but the starting equipment. Traveled 10's of kilometers barely able to see anything until I lucked upon one of those little hospital/clinics with some supplies. Fairly well kitted out, now. Kinda torn between heading over to help fresh spawns and being super wary of bandits. And the fresh spawns who could turn at a any moment. That's one of the most appealing aspects of this game for me...another player can be a good encounter or a nightmare, and you risk all of your goodies...

Thanks for the advice/help, folks. Much appreciated!

Found my first can opener, though, in that time! 8th or so respawn.
-
Kinda played it that way, open to choices... I have 9mm, 45 ACP, 7.62x39, 7.62x51, 12 gauge buckshot, .357, and in 8 or so respawns I have yet to see 5.56x45.

In the world I am finding every caliber in the game...except for what I can run.
-
Funny guy, dude up there^ Hilarious when you lmb and hear "click, click.click" :) I figured an airfield would have plenty of ammo. If not there...where?
-
Old song. Anyyway, two trips today to Balota...no ammo!

Headed out exploring with 0 bandages/rags...
-
First off, really enjoying the game. "Dead is dead" makes you think twice before attempting some risky ploy... My 1st try went pretty well. Gathered some decent loot and felt prepared to start exploring. WRONG! No bandages/rags. I bled out half way between Chernogorsk (I think) and somewhere else. Oh well, learning experience... Next several tries I got beat down. Hard. Currently, things are going pretty well. Question for you folks: How is it that I can play just fine for several hours and suddenly FPS drops off radically? I have tried rebooting, I have tried lan .vs. wireless, it seems once it starts nothing helps until the next day. Another question: Sometimes when I zoom (weapon raised/readied) with the rmb I get iron sights. Yet at other times I just get the "general" zoom. Am I doing something stupid or is it a bug/glitch? Thanks for any help, folks.

Would some kind mod please move this to the Day Z standalone forum way up there ^? Didn't realize where I was. Sorry.

A real quick Howdy, folks! Been gaming (board, rp, war, video) since the mid-70's. And before anyone says "greybeard nerd!" I have 3 daughters, two are grown and out of the house! Really enjoying the game. The "minimalist" scope appeals to me. Can't carry around an armory full of repair parts/kit and have a tool for every situation. That's refreshing. Choices must be made, and I find I regret most of them. So far. Beginning to learn what is important and what isn't. 5 cans of food and two canteens are no use at all if you're spewing blood out in the middle of nowhere... If y'all see me out there, I'll be the dude shouting "Hey! Wanna trade?" Found my 1st can opener today in 7-8 respawns. Damn, I appreciate a good can opener now! See y'all out there! Preferably not at the end of your rifle sights...
