I did, with a sawed off shotgun not realizing that it was a piece of garbage comparable to a mosquito bite (I expect this to be fixed in beta or I will be really angry). I think I might swap with my buddy and let him take the Mosin and me take the SKS, I am one of two things a long range sniper (I was originally going to be a sniping bandit hunter) or a close quarters combatant, it is one of the two, nothing else. I am comfortable at both ranges what with playing scout on team fortress 2 and snipers before I played it in games like Battlefield 2.

I carry a .357 and a mosin for recon. What would you suggest instead?

Rubber banded between a tree and a hill where I couldn't move, I tried to walk or crouch to get out of it then the game FLINGS me across the map through one of the trees in front of me and I run face first at full speed into another to see "you are dead" as my face impacts with the trunk. one of those times I just stared for a good 30 seconds before almost wetting myself laughing.

Carrying two primary Weapons without having one everytime in the hands

"Flanksteak, Flanksteak! can you believe the guns Marcus gave us? There is a gun in here that shoots fire, God**** fire! I've been using it to roast my food and girlfriends. We need more guns, MORE GUNS! MOOORE GUNS!" I think that about sums up the mentality of most of the KoS people. I however would support the idea of a single rifle scabbard for weapons like the .22 and the crossbow and shotty, something solely for hunting and to replace a vest/holster. -
Streamers make Day Z SA look like so much action happens.

Occam's razor. People fear the unknown or things they don't understand, as a result they hurl insults and yell instead of trying to understand it. you have to find things they can relate to for them to understand and some still refuse to accept it or dismiss it outright. (another anthropological theory known as cognitive dissonance) Doesn't mean either person is wrong, simply that they hold different opinions. As for some streams: look up "lord vader's pizza delivery service" and "I was saved by a firefighter" if it is a good comedian I will watch their stuff, but I honestly don't enjoy the "take everything serious, must win at all costs" tryhard mentality that permeates games today, half the fun of games like doom or team fortress 2 is how unrealistic and silly it is and trying to make deaths less ragey and more of those ones where you just stare at the screen then bust out laughing. Take for example the other day, I respawned on experimental, was running on a hill moved wrong rubber banded between a tree and the hill, I crouched to try and move and rocket through one tree and into another and upon colliding with the second tree "you are dead" it was one of those moment that I just sat there for a good 30 seconds then nearly wet myself laughing at the absurdity of it. If I could share it by stream I would have in a heartbeat. -
Poll: Are you happy with update news/management?

All of the complaints over content being added and not debugging. People don't seem to understand that alpha is NOT for debugging, that is what a beta is. Alpha is that outline you (are supposed to) create prior to a research paper that shows all the content and the high points you want to hit. For this step they need to focus on implementing all of the content they want NOW and only worry about pure game breaking bugs in each system and get it all functioning on a basic level so that in beta they can devote the entire team to finding and quashing those big jarring bugs that make the game utter tripe, but still playable. Right now the game is playable, but really bad, so alpha accomplished. in beta it will be reduced to bug hunting and immediate fixes, while the art team just touches up items and maybe makes new hats for us TF2 players who carry one of every hat in the game that we can get cause, hats. My problem is the lack of centralized intel on what to test in experimental, what is being done about things, and what to do. Experimental should have a log of highlights for us to focus on and beat like a dead horse instead of having people running around KoSing cause they have nothing else to do. Ideally PvP would be disabled all together (save for certain servers to test new weapons and their affects on different things) and each player would be told "we need this tested, do it" in experimental. Server side updates are also important for players. How many people still don't realize tent spawns are re-enabled and working now just cause they only search here. too many places to search, too little info, what should be done is one massive change log posted here, then a link or copy/paste posted on all the social media sites. After having watched that video from rezzed I appreciate more of what is going but that still doesn't exactly EXCUSE how scattered and scatterbrained the updates we get seem to be. A changelong isn't that hard to do you as a dev; you make a text file with all the things you changed, then upload/copy and paste it to a central area, then one guy (usually someone in charge of localization or art or something) that has spare time merges all of the changes into one file and uploads it, back on the fallout 3 overhaul kit it was our project leader doing this whenever we would upload files for him to merge together. This helped a very sporadic team who always focused on their own thing keep up to date on what was happening and not work on overlapping things (with some exceptions such as one guy working on graphics of a weapon and another on stats). Something I never appreciated till I got a little older and started looking at the work I contributed and what we all did. Edit: thanks to Irish Roy for the website, it pretty much does exactly what I want thus showing this info IS out there, now if only it had that bullet list of what to test in experimental -
What clothing set/weapons would you add if you could?

What would I love to see? take your pick from anything in TF2. (throwing jarate at zombies :D ) But realistically? Clothes: A WW2 style medic ballistic helmet A medical vest (can only hold medical items, to discourage KoS'ers from using it to shoot people in the back) Other holsters A scabbard for a sawnoff or .22 or something along those lines (small primaries that don't contribute much so you can carry it in addition to that mosin/sks) dusters, ponchos, trenchcoats (real THICK ones like the germans used in WW1 for protection in trench warfare) etc. Armbands that show if you are friendly or not (mostly for medics so people don't shoot us on sight thinking we are bandits, also optional, not forced by some arbitrary morality system) Eyepatches Krevat military bandage worn as a bandanna solid snake style Indiana Jones style Broad brimmed fedora Outback hats (I just like the idea of a bandit clan dressed as TF2 Characters, it would be so funny) Weapons: Swords/dagger/machete's that are actually decent Remington 700 rifle Remington 870 (I know it is already planned, yay!) Thompson SMG MP5 The B.A.R seems like a good choice, it actually seems plausible some allied WW2 weapons would find their way back to Russia and former soviet states what with all the fighting in those areas AR-15 weapons platform, civilian model, not the m16. Glock pistols (don't care what kind, just a glock) SVD (I think this one is an obvious choice and is inevitable) AKM and variants (Also planned) PKM is always one of my favorites because of the chatter from it, not necessary, but would be fun FN FAL and more modern variants (there is your battle rifles) HK G3A1 9mm USP (would be nice, I love the USP, but I figure that is a pipe dream, just like the G36 and P90) Sig sauer pistols Not MANY more modern american weapons should be there, it makes sense to have the Beretta M92 and the m4/m16 due to the presence of the UN helmets and the US patches on the tactical shirts, indicating the presence of other countries trying to contain the infection before they all got eaten, so I can see having other foreign military weapons, especially China due to their population size and their former relations with the soviets and satellite states. That said there is a SORE lack of shotguns and I would love to see more shotty's and some useful .22 weapons -
The reason Zombie clipping isn't fixed.

Hah, I had no idea they used nav meshing, and here I thought DayZ would be NOTHING like modding Fallout3 or New Vegas. I can attest to how much of a pain nav meshing by itself is, I worked on a fallout3 mod with some rather experienced modders, couple that with the fact that you have to outline each building so that the game sees it for NPC's and there is weeks or months of work there. The entire game has to be covered in a large navmesh, in addition you add into the fact that the buildings are all currently not finished, many of them are just "cereal boxes with doors painted on them" as yahtzee said, and many have areas that you really should be able to enter but can't, on top of that you have AI behavior for stuff like climbing ladders and stairs, and the possibility of altering or removing buildings later on, this all means that if they appeased everyone now it would delay the release of more bug fixes, features, hacking prevention, etc because those code monkeys are now working nonstop on those buildings. then they could be thrown away which means re-editing the entire region again. Work SMART not just hard. In this case I find what they are doing of saving for the map to be finished to be the smart option. It is best to save this for now while they work on implementing all the features they want without gamebreaking glitches and then focus on debugging them. Annoying? Oh GOD yes, but for now it is the wisest choice, much to my chagrin. -
Remove Zombies until they're fixed.

"Zombie apocalypse, Zombie apocalypse, Zombie apocalypse" Hasn't it ever occured to anyone here that the real horror of a zombie apocalypse isn't the zombies, but the way we treat each other? The Walking Dead isn't so good because of Z0MG ZOMBIES! It is because the characters and their stories, how they struggle to overcome their flaws and, human nature. in DayZ we have precisely that, people being raiders for the sake of fun, raping and pillaging for whatever they couldn't get in normal life, people who try to survive and eke out a living together in harmony with people, and those who believe the only saviors of the wastes are bullets to the head. The zombies are a catlyst for this. As buggy as they are without zombies we wouldn't have the stories we have. In all, the zombies are just a backdrop for the real horror of human nature and how we treat each other, but that is just my 2 cents as an anthropologist.
