I wish we were forced to interact with others to survive...

Rick, you can be a complete jackwagon you know that? But you have some good points, and seem like a nice guy when not playing the sarcastic persona. Beans for simply stating what we mostly all want to see. Also not a bad rig, how much did it cost you? -
IMO all these should be just optional things that people can do. Just to enhance immersion. Like in fallout3 and Fallout: new vegas, you could be a cannibal if you wanted, and actually got some new options for doing so (meat of champions, anyone?) however none of them should be forced on the player. Don't like suicide animations? disable them in a menu. Don't like taking a dump? don't do it. Don't like cannibalism? Don't do it. it should be a balance of player choice and fun. wanto run around pantless and beat some one to death with a bat then make sandwiches out of their corpse and have them for thanksgiving dinner (don't forget the stuffing! no giblets though please)? have at it bud!

That leaves one of two things, either your router/modem is having trouble with game like mine is, or it is the game. In my case the game stops working and never shows servers until I close dayZ and restart it, websites don't show up and so on. This happens as far as I can tell because of an overload on a failing modem, in my case it seems to be my internal battery dying, which in some modems it can be replaced, in some, not. It SOUNDS like a game issue, however it could be anything causing your internet speed to choke really. A virus, bad modem, running out of memory and not rendering actions as they happen. Without access to your computer and modem there is nothing really I can suggest. I'll get in touch with my tech savy friend and see what he has to say.
-
He actually has a point, even if not intended as a legit one but as being a sarcastic captain obvious. if it is an actual problem any server including low ping will do it. After that if you still have problems go to speedtest.net to rule out for sure it is not your internet, then get back to us.

How about this: if it ain't harming YOU don't get onto someone. A game should not punish a playstyle. It should be fun. Servers hoppers are usually new players or player hunters. It ain't gonna stop them. That log in timer doesn't do Jack cause a real server hopper will open the steam overlay, find a youtube video or somethign and watch it while waiting for the time out. I once get kicked from a server for it going down, joined another, no connection to hive, disconnect and join another got kicked by abusive admin for a "clan server" join an official one, a 500+ second timer. you know what I did I didn't quit the game, I didn't rage, I went and got a snack, used the bathroom, went and read some game of thrones, looked after the little brother while mom was at work (curse not being able to find a job cause of age!). You think a server hopper cares? Only if they are an impatient CoD kid looking for instant action and satisfaction.

It will cause that guy with the blaze to KoS a guy with an M4, because they want that M4, and you can't have it or anything with it. It will cause people to KoS anyone they see for the sake of that person POSSIBLY having the wrench or helo or car part they need. It will cause people to Kos anyone with a LRS or NVG's, without a second thought cause "you have something I want to kill Bambi with N00bS@UC3!" In short it will make the game even more trigger happy, and possibly destroy it cause people can no longer survive without KoS. No more heroes. Just people shanking each other over a can of beans. Oh wait.... -
Because it impacts their image negatively, and thus people will stop renting from and hurt their bottom line. Usually, most server companies don't have the money and manpower to blow off everyone and continue putting out sub par products like EA and activision do.

I was just thinking about this actually. I carry a baseball bat now for fighting indoors and for outdoors cause it has a nice predictable swing. Beaning beaned in the head as hard as you can with a baseball beat will most likely kill you or at least leave you with severe brain damage. Huh, perhaps power attacks that will always one shot a zombie (KO a player) on a headshot but tire you out extremely quickly, and can't be used again for X seconds or so? (to prevent spamming)

Actually in the last experimental I saw one experimental server that was always locked. So I assume with as small as the DayZ team is they are forced to rent a few servers. Probably most of the in house BiS servers are probably devoted to Arma 3 development atm. Though I would be curious why they haven't bought some gaming rigs that can run a LAN server 24/7 for testing purposes. If I got paid minimum wage, and the group wasn't in new Zealand (so they would have horrible lag) I would gladly let them use my computer for a direct connect server through evolve or something.

I disagree, as I have said there doesn't seem to be a silver bullet to fix this problem. This is one thing that is on the road to fixing them and making them a threat, we just need to tweak other things at the same time and see what works.

Again, the problem with "M0AR EN3M13S!" as I have said is that it is more artificial difficulty. Then again I am thinking in terms of typical shooters like borderlands 2, zombies can play by different rules. it is gonna take several factors to fix this, I just don't believe there is one silver bullet that will fix it all at once. While I agree this is a valid point I feel that the developers will see the backlash NOW and never try it again, instead making it so that the fire axe always one shots, even when zombies are ultimately fixed, because they got so much backlash this time.A number of things need addressed before we can really consider and worry about balancing TOO hard. And that means waiting till mid-late Q2 and the fixing of zombies. (or as early as next month if the studios continue to be ahead of the curve like dean says they were for 64bit coding) -

I see at least one, and what looks like an FN fal or another Tommy behind it. Is that a PKM? Scary that such things are easily available to people with little to no training, yet also a necessity in this world. Can't usually put two men in a room without one trying to be more important than the other. So there we have evidence of some pretty deadly hardware in an average joe gunshop. I gotta admit, if Torchia really did all the research he says, our chance for a Thompson are actually pretty decent. And I agree the MP5 is a good fit, I just would prefer it were the standard A5 we always see, with a flashlight attachment for night time exploration. I would use that sucker in a heartbeat as a hero/medic (killing floor probably getting the better of my mentality). I think once things are more developed we will see things even out, with guns like the AK more widely used by raiders and the M4/MP5 used by true bandits (who hold people up then leave them alone) and heroes. And with some attachments I could see the blaze being a good sniper alternative to the mosin. I hope to see more weapons along the line of STALKER for military and automatics. Stalker had a nice variety of weapons to use, and were really satisfying to use weapons like the L85A1, the AN94, the G36, the realism kinda just melted away for the sake of what was FUN to use. It had problems no doubt, but the zone was a living world with all kinds coming to it from around the world to make their names. That's something I feel that DayZ is trying to accomplish with the NATO and UN equipment being found, but we still have a way to go to develop such a feeling without actual NPC's to do show and tell. So right now they are incorporating weapons from such a world, without the full feel. Though hopefully the weapons will go a long way to creating that feel, we have the mass graves in balota and other areas, and that is going towards creating that feel, along with the UN helmets and US tac shirts, it just isn't finished yet. Just my 2 cents on the subject, although I kind went a bit off topic there toward the end. -

I'm not sure if they lend leased tommy's to the Russians, I don't think so, Stalin was too proud of his own work, and let's face it, for the time the mosin was a REALLY good weapon, so were the tanks, those things were BUILT. The Axis may not have been allowed to keep their weapons, but I can guarantee it still happened. As I said, the russians worked closely with American forces they didn't always like us, so I could see some weapons getting looted by soviets and sent home. That said it DOESN'T fit that well. I would love to see it and there is some pretty decent logic to it but I just can't see it happening. Too high value of a weapon, too hard to acquire, and highly sought by collectors. -

Yes, in the head, like it is currently. A torso hit should NEVER one shot a zombie. But increasing their health and damage to outclass the hulk, is artificial difficulty, not real difficulty at all. it just inflates everything to bigger numbers which results in more sighs of defeat and shelving the game for something else. Like I said, it needs something in TANDEM with the zombies. look at resident evil 1/REmake. the fear was the zombies, but it was usually the environment and controls that did you in, with the zombies MAYBE dealing the last punch once in a while. L4D? the zombies hold you in place and the special infected deal damage. Killing floor? Zombies hold you in place and specials deal the most damage, coming at you en masse, and each one with a special gimmick. Not once do the zombies work alone in these (supposedly, to each their own) good games. -

Well, consider how much fighting was on the Russian fronts in WW2, I think it is inevitable that some tommy guns and B.A.R.'s would be sent back to (now former) soviet states from some of those joint operations between American and Soviet forces. And if you go into Chernarus being the Czech republic, that just means that they were conscripted Nazis, which GUARANTEES that they would have been fighting both Americans and Russians, so there were VERY likely war souvenirs. Edit: but as I said, MP5 is probably the better choice for the SMG, we might see a few WW2 rifles and such, but I doubt it will be anything iconic like the BAR or Tommy. I can live with it, whatever the studio says fits, will fit. -

How? In what way can any type of zombie who is killed in one hit by a fireaxe or anything larger than a .22 be threatening? Go the killing floor route? make it so they grab you and can hold you in place if attacked? then you have people complaining they can no longer out run zombies. they made zombies a bigger threat this last patch, yet still able to be on shot with a headshot from a fire axe, and now people are whining and moaning, even though it was a NEEDED and really a decent change. They have reverted back from last reports on experimental due to the KoS community whining. Zombies by themselves are not, and will not be a threat, ever. they need something in tandem to become one, this is where the environment is supposed to come into play, but will it, that is the question. Edit: for changing skins to show who is a bandit and who isn't: Heros are clean, might have a beard, while raiders will be bloody and dirty. Just like in fallout. It is a simple texture change of the skin that will force you to be wary of anyone with a motorcycle helmet or face mask, cause they are trying to pass themselves off as one thing or another by not revealing their skin. -

yes I read back a bit and saw that the as50 was a hoax. The mp5 I am a bit sad on I was hoping for the Tommy gun, but really it is well placed as a police weapon, I can see it as the intermediate between military and civil gear, the civil answer to the M4 for heroes really. And hopefully it will be better or the same, with more abundant ammo. -

I have no idea how it works, but can we open the PBO files and see what is really in them? perhaps the MP5 is really models for other weapons and simply use the file name for simplicities sake? and later the PBO's and files will be renamed/moved to a new file structure? Edit: changed wording for clarification -
Non kos is as much of a thrill as kos

I know the feeling, my buddy is very shy and afraid of people. He was playing one night with me and said he was going to try and be nice and talk to people and everything (wrong game for that), first guy he found was a KoSer, he stalked him for around and hour while I ran from pustoshka to elektro only to end up getting gunned down by a spray and pray from behind I got behind the guy, server goes down, and my vengeance for my best friend is taken from me. It nearly made me quit and have since begun shooting anyone that gets too close to me (any fresh spawn sprinting toward me), or has full military gear. No questions, just a single shot to the torso, and maybe a follow up to the face. Though If I can I go for the legs and let them crawl around for an hour or two looking for a zombie to end it. -
yup, I'd say that's Fix'D

To be fair, now if they talk shit and try to log you can shoot them in the head as a pre-emptive measure. cause you know those types are gonna gear up and shoot people. -
looking at the roadmap again last night they mention bullet physics, I honestly think that once those are all done we will get a massive weapon balance overhaul. I've used the m4 some and I just can't bring myself to use it over the SKS. However according to my testing and to our resident gun nut Gews from another thread THe bayonet and supressor both increase the accuracy negligibly by 1/3 MOA according to his tests. I've done some sniping in zelenogorsk at zombies and found this true. using a bipod, single shot fire mode (press t, it changes dispersion whereas firing a single shot in auto mode doesn't affect accuracy 1 iota in my tests) goes on target every time.

Stop With the "This is Russia BS"
bodybagger2430 replied to Insane Ruffles's topic in General Discussion
Agreed that they won't be found in Russia/"The near abroad" like chernarus. however I do see some of the higher profile ones having been sent home as trophies and momentos or something. Tommy gun, B.A.R, Knives, uniforms most likely Bayonets and and uniforms would be the things sent. Allied forces did it all the time, it is the only reason we have as many Katanas left from that time as we do, Allied soldiers saved them for various reasons, bragging rights, respect, etc. I could see the tommy gun filling the SMG role for .45 ammo. The BAR I don't see working, it has several calibers, but they all translate to variants of 7.62 and we won't need another 7.62 Assault rifle once the AKM comes in. much as it would be awesome to see and use, it is superfluous and a novelty weapon that isn't needed (much like the P90 and G36). As for more civil weapons, we need one to counter each military grade weapon, the blaze is the mosin counterpart (and does well at it) but what do you do for the m4? AKM? FN FAL? G3A1? I'd argue the crossbow is the coutnerpart to the SKS really, but that seems kinda... no, because of the reload speed. -
IRL a suppressor decreases accuracy and damage (in theory, due to reduction of speed) how does it affect in game? increase or decrease accuracy? And what about the bayonet, any changes? one would think so since it is a hunk of steel weighing down the barrel. Just asking since i carry both for upcoming patches (bayonet for dealing with zombies and cans, and suppressor just cause.)

What an anthropological insight you have. I agree wholeheartedly. Another problem is that it will not accurately reflect the people in the game, you are dealing with a small sample size of people with patience for a forum poll and only those who go to the forums. If you were to count how many people actually KoS just cause, you would come up with a far different number than what we have now.
