All 3 camps 200km apart raided in 6hours
Madfast replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Like I said it is entirely possible your camps got found by chance, It is possible that you could have 100 camps all hidden as far away from each other as possible, that remain undiscovered for 10 years, for them all to be discovered at the exact same second. Whilst statistically unlikely it is entirely possible. Also I fail to see what you made this thread for, as they are generally for discussion. I posited an alternate, equally likely solution, and you don't even consider it a possibility. Perhaps in the future instead of making a pointless rant that serves no purpose, you can just do what a normal person would and get the fuck on with life. If you truly believe it was hackers, and it bothers you they are in the game that much, don't play until beta or the final release. Either that or just get on with your shit without moaning. -
Sick of being Killed for no reason
Madfast replied to Irenicus (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That is why you move fast and erratically from cover to cover when you are forced to be visible, and yes zombies are easy to deal with. They are easy to fight, and when you run out of ammo , they are easy to escape from. Like I said at the end of the day, it boils down to player skill. Stop bitching on the forums because you got killed, do something about it, change your tactics. Crying about it on the forums won't change a thing. You have 2 choices; 1. Quit the game. 2. Get better at the game. -
Sick of being Killed for no reason
Madfast replied to Irenicus (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
1. Zombies are really, really easy to deal with. 2. I have never been sniped, wanna know why? Because I play this game, not like a "Zombie survival game", but a tactical military shooter, with zombies and food, which is what it is. Snipers will struggle to snipe you if they can't see you, or you are moving fast and erratically. The only "cure" for the "PvP epidemic" is player skill. Make yourself harder to kill, and they will soon get bored. Keep repeating the same things over and over again, and then posting the 1 millionth thread moaning about it is not going to make it any better. -
All 3 camps 200km apart raided in 6hours
Madfast replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It is 15km long x 15km wide = 225km^2. Also OP just because your camps got found on the same day doesn't automatically make it hackers. You have 50 people crawling all over the map, I can often find 2/3 camps in less than an hours play. There is an unpleasant trend in gaming as a whole, if something bad happens to you, people automatically claim it must be hackers. Not bad luck, or skilled players looking for tents etc. It was most likely just bad luck. -

I'm afraid I've had to advise friends/family against this fine mod (why?)
Madfast replied to Mr Muggles's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This game has always been a PvP focused zombie survival game, and whilst yes there is redoubtably more PvP than in its early days, I don't get what people are complaining about. At the end of the day how much you die comes down the player skill. That sniper wont kill you from miles away if he doesn't see you, or you are moving to fast to be hit. I have never been killed by a sniper, and I have been playing this since the very very early days. The only time I have died to another player was my own fault, I saw a tent and ran straight too it without checking out the area. Apart from that I have never been killed by another player. The best way to "fix" the "PvP problem" is just to play more tactically, not moan about it on the forums. If everyone just made themselves harder to kill, the coast campers and kill for the sake of killing bandits would fast disappear when they got bored. -
Slower zombies, increased numbers.....
Madfast replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think you misunderstand. I always play with ACE, when not on DayZ, which does have a realistic stamina system, some could argue too severe a stamina system. I agree zombies moving the same speed as you, under those circumstance would provide a challenge, but not traditional slow zombies. Even in very large hordes they provide no challenge, just a gentle jog 100m, stop for 2 minutes thin them out and repeat. And that is the kind of zombie the OP was talking about, traditional Romero zombies. -
Oh it is this thread again, seriously there is a thing called a search bar. But anyway to copy my reply from the other 2 threads I have seen in the past week on this subject; Unless you are having a heart attack, using a defibrillator is going to kill you. Despite what media would have you believe, it is not a magic cure all. It basically only works if you heart is quivering irregularly (fibrillation) by forcing the heart to momentarily stop so it can resume a normal rhythm by itself. If you get shot enough to die and thus warrant some kind of resurrection, you are going to need a trained trauma team, a fully equipped surgery room to have any chance. I don't think this fits in with the atmosphere of the mod at all. In an otherwise mostly "realistic" and harsh world an almost pseudo magically item to bring you back to life after suffering multiple bullet wounds or zombie bites seems incredibly out of place.

About finding which direction to go, you can observe the sun bearing in mind it rises in the east and sets in the west, as long as you know what timezone your server is in you don't need a watch. So if its before midday the direction the sun is, is east, after midday it's west. Also the night sky is accurate, so you can locate the north star. But I understand that may be difficult/impossible depending on your personal skill with it, so a easy but less precise way. Watch where you first spawn, if it is says any spawn location, except three valleys, eg Kamenka, Electro, then put your back to the coast the way you are facing is now north. If you spawn at three valleys put your back to the coast you are now facing west ( as it is on the east coast). To easily loose zombies do this; Run through any dense bushy area and make sure you put 2 pieces of cover, Ie bushes trees, between you and the zombie after you get through the second piece, crouch and walk slowly away. The first bush breaks line of sight, the second bush stops the zombie reacquiring line of sight when it bursts through, and by crouch walking the zombie won't be able to hear you. If you carry on sprinting as is probably instinct it will quickly find you again. I would recommend avoiding towns, and instead hitting barns/deer-stands to start, at least until you have some means to protect yourself. When in towns, try to keep 15m from zombies. If you double tap - on the numpad it will zoom out slightly, giving you an increased field of view which can be vital to spot zombies in towns. Also keep an eye on the blurry white dots on the side of the screen, these simulate "peripheral vision" due to a monitor inherently limited FOV. Also never, ever walk anywhere there even may be a zombie, or player to a certain extent. If you crouch walk/run it is slower but will decrease the chance of something spotting you. A few tips for your inevitable PvP encounter as well. Always try to stay in the tree lines, hedgerows when out in the country side and move slowly in towns peaking round corners, that will reduce the chance of someone spotting you. If you have to cover open ground, sprint and zigzag erratically, also if someone shoots at you do this. If you stop even for a second, or god forbid lie down they will kill you. But hitting a fast randomly moving target at range is going to be more difficult for them and you will be more likely to get out alive. And if you ever get in a team, make sure you are not all bunched up, spread out and don't walk in a single column. All watch different directions. And it only takes one person to loot a building, 2 at most for larger ones, so get the others to watch different angles. I can't tell you how many times I have wiped a team out easily because they all stand close together and don't watch more than one direction, or because they all crammed into a tiny building. The phrase "Shooting fish in a barrel" comes to mind. There tips for nearly every situation. The rest will come with experience. Good luck.

Which survivor is the legit survivor?
Madfast replied to Ssgt_Perez's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sounds like you may have connected to a server with a Private Hive, either that or it was a bug. Assuming it wasn't a bug, whichever survivor you play as on multiple different servers would be considered the "legit" one, as the "non legit" one would likely be limited to the one server. If it was a bug, then alpha, nothing much you can do about it. -
Slower zombies, increased numbers.....
Madfast replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Before anyone suggests slow zombie with a greater number play this mod, http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=9207 , It is for Arma and has exactly that slow zombies in a greater number. And these zombies are way more lethal than DayZ ones if they get close to you. And it is still ridiculously easy, you can run rings around the biggest hordes, or shoot a few, run back, shoot a few, repeat. Trust me when I say this would make the only threat to players other players, looting towns would become even easier than it already is. Zombies would become a non entity almost they would be that nonthreatening. -
Will this game work with an ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB?
Madfast replied to FooFlyer's topic in New Player Discussion
Maybe, but only on the very lowest graphic settings , and your frame rate may not be great. It only just meets the requirements, and Arma is a very demanding game. I would suggest downloading Arma 2 free, and testing how you perform on that before parting with any cash. -
about to start first camp, would like some help.
Madfast replied to t3hnoob's topic in New Player Discussion
Yer that mass of woodland north of that marker. Stick a tent there and you will be very unlikely to have to found/robbed. Also don't group all your tents together space them out a bit, that way if one camp is found you won't loose everything. -
Realistic idea: Cherno/Elektro Deathmatch servers for the cod kids?
Madfast replied to Gruelius's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Even if there was Deathmatch servers, they wouldn't play them. You don't deathmatch on DayZ for the challenge or because you enjoy fighting others. If that was the case there are plenty of games with more intuitive noob friendly controls. They play because they like to fuck up peoples day. They don't want to face off against an equally well equipped player, they want to shoot an unsuspecting player from far away, because they enjoy ruining peoples day. If there was a server full of like minded people they would get bored/frustrated at there lack of skill, so go back to the easy pickings on the main server. -

Madfast replied to Gruelius's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It's is called Arma 2. If you want zombies as well there are plenty of community mods, there are even celery zombies which don't require any additional mods. People seem to forget that when they made there purchase of Arma 2: CO they were not just getting a platform to run DayZ, but a massive game in its own right with a large community and wide variety of other existing mods. -

Close to the northern border, farther north than the northern airfields. There is nothing there, so you want get much through traffic. -

Madfast replied to t3hnoob's topic in New Player Discussion
None of those places are particularly good, the ones by the coast are way too close to the coast, and right in the path of where any clever player will walk along the coast. The other ones are in common tent hiding places, especially the ones on the left, that is where I hunt for tents to rob. The best place, although inconvenient to get to, is the masses of forest to the north of the map. This is a long way to go on respawn and too fill your tents, but the only people who go there will be going to their own tents, so won't be looking around, or very dedicated tent hunters and there is so much forest there the chances of them stumbling across them are low. -
When I saw this thread, I knew the first response would be "Recoil". I didn't feel anything really, guy just lit up a flare at night, looked at me so I shot him in the face. I certainty didn't feel recoil because this is a video game.

Good idea, would be slightly more immersive than the way ACE handles it, just requiring permission to open your bag. Also it wasn't ever a feature in the base game, because it wasn't really required. You start with everything you need, or have access to it, when the mission begins. No hostile would want to steal it, as you have defined teams so you would just shoot an enemy rather than risking getting close. Although it would making replacing someones backpack inventory with empty cans slightly more difficult...

Do what you feel is right. There is no need to senselessly murder everyone you see, but if you want to play that way go for it. Contrary to popular opinion on this forum not everyone is a KOS bandit, many are more than willing to help you and a good team mate is worth much more than there loot.

I will 1v1 you, but we have to use fighter jets. Fighter jet 1v1 is how you separate the men from the boys, any nooblet can use a gun.

Great idea, would really add a greater level of immersion, but they likely weren't his map markers. Map markers show for you depending on what chat channel they were in when the placed it, if you could have heard them speaking in that channel the markers will be there for you. So if someone places a marker whilst in side chat, it will be visible for everyone etc. -
I have never seen the homosexual hour glass? Is it different from the normal one, perhaps more stylish? What conditions would one expect too see this illusive "gay" hour glass?

Looking for a young group of bandits
Madfast replied to Dragonborn (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My main problem with younger gamers, and why I don't really want to play with them, is they are just not experienced enough at the game to fit well in my group. We have all been playing this game series (since OFP) since before you could likely even talk. So as mature as you are, by virtue of your age, you simply will not be good enough. Saying that, I am always willing to help nooblets become pro. After all there was a day long ago when I too was a nooblet, so whilst currently I would not be able to welcome you into the fold, as it were. If your group ever wants someone to show you how to be 100% legit Armed Assault/ DayZ pros, we can give you the tricks of the trade, or welcome you into intense nooblet training program. And you too can go from DayZero to DayHero. -
I am just going by what rocket has said in the past, I can trawl through 100's of forum posts to find the exact quote if you want, but it would be a waste of my time. Also I think it is a bad idea, at 1x time because some people would be at a distinct disadvantage as they would only be able to play at night time. If some accelerated time was implemented perhaps it could work, but what I am also saying is, for the amount of work required is it really worth it, and yes just to stop people only playing daytime servers, because that is what it boils down too. Whilst that isn't inherently a bad thing, that is what your suggestion boils down too, a way to make it so people have to play both day and night, but unless time was accelerated that wouldn't happen.
