More civilian stuff. This is no military game. Less sniper stuff. And especially less sniper stuff to even increase their effectivity. The close miss of a sniper bullet is something that increases immersion and makes the game cooler. The instant black screen does not. So... I am all for more whizzing bullets that make your adrenaline shoot up and your character duck for cover... less insta kills.

I actually agree. It's kind of weird to have a gun and know that you will likely not find a magazine until muuuuch later. I understand it is a balancing feature of some kind, but a little more realism would be cool here. It's hard enough to find a gun, magazine and ammunition already.

Gamma exploit. I would love to play at night, but I do not enjoy being at a huge disadvantage just for the added atmosphere, especially in DayZ where a mistake can be costly like hell.

Just wanted to say "Thank you!" for the guide. It made starting the game so much easier. Keep it up!

DayZ Standalone Alpha: Accept the Darkness

The vid has a nice attitude to it. Ofc one curses when shot, but its light mood makes it great. -
Nice vid. I am laughing so hard because of the derp-song. :D The commuication in the end is just priceless.

Omg. :D This was awesome! Saw that fully geared green guy move further back in the line? :D

10 kills in a row = / no skill hazardousmouse
cuddly_rabbit replied to HazardousMouse's topic in Gallery
Hm. That's why I prefer Hardcore Mode. The "periscoping over wall" is silly. However, nice shooting. I tend to miss too much when I have the chance. :) P.S: And at least you also met a proper "camper's end" at the end by the hand of another camper. -
After yesterday, I run even deeper into the woods, away from points that would allow direct view to activity centers (players spawn right at the same time => chaos), and then I scan the area for a minute for guys in yellow raincoats while sitting in a bush. Guy in the yellow raincoat, if you read this... you are a masterstalker. Kudos.

Oh my God. :) My game looks... sooooo different (in a bad way). QQ Tell me that you cannot play with these settings, please (if necessary, just lie to make all those who have 20 frames with everything turned off feel better) :D

"the run" ((what would you have done?))
cuddly_rabbit replied to ganked's topic in New Player Discussion
It sounds correct. You are not a hero in this game. They are not your comrades or brothers in arms. There is no enemy in a grande battle for honour. Life actually means something in DayZ compared to all these other shooters. I think I would have tried to assist (from a safe point/cover perhaps), but would not have taken stupid risk (as they obviously did). I guess the fact that you survived tells that you made a good call there. -
Yesterday I did my first KoS, and it felt bad. Walking around a corner in the Balota airfield, I see a player who is looking into the sky. I did not expect anybody there, panicked and shot him. Bleh, should have said something, but... hm. I made it up afterwards by not going for a 100 % kill by finding a talking solution. Felt much better. Damn this game that makes you so edgy that when something unexpected happens, you just follow the saying "when in doubt, empty your magazine". Sorry to the guy I kosed. I'll try to avoid it next time because it -is- shitty.

Short Characteristic: Name: Martin Schneider Profession: Doctor (medicine) for the Organisation "Doctors without Borders" Home Country: Germany Age: 34 Languages spoken: German (fluent), English (fluent) Current Objectives: Find his team (MIA)Find medical gearHelp those who need helpFind a lab to test my own blood for antibodiesSend a message for help Get out of this horror aliveSpeciality: Talkative (//oorp: will always talk first) Pacifist (//oorp: won't use a weapon when there is another choice)Hate for guns (//oorp: can't and doesn't want to use rifles)Hipocratean Oath (//oorp: will try to help everybody) Diary The date is unknown. I haven't yet found a person who could tell me the exact date. Assuming that the strain of flu I was struck down with was a nasty one, I assume I must have been unconscious for several days. Perhaps weeks. Long enough for the team to leave me in that house in Pusta. I assume it is March, but I can be wrong. Therefore I'll go with "T+" as long as I cannot figure out the date. T+2: Unknown I feel strong enough to walk. There is no sign of life around in this tiny village without a name I can read. The last thing I can remember is my team, trying to help me to drink something. I still have the infusion in my arm when I wake up. I need to get out, find out what happened. Get something to eat, I am starving. T+5: Unknown, likely NW of Elektrozavodsk I have been walking around in the wilderness, searching small villages for useful things. I have not met a human that was not a Z. I found a splitting axe that has served me well in defending my life against infected. In a police car, I also found an M4 rifle, however no ammunition. I took it, to trade it for something useful. T+6: Elektrozavodsk I made it to Elektrozavodsk. Now I remember that there was a Zombie Apocalypse when I saw the first standing near the rails. I went around them. Slowly things are coming back again. We had concluded that the infected were humans depraved of higher brain activity, reduced to animalistic instinct driven patterns of behaviour. In Electro I ran into a survivor twice. He scared the hell out of me, but pointed me to the ruined hospital where I hoped to fill up my supplies of medical gear. I should have kept him around, but I wanted to move on fast and he was taking his time. And you can't trust people much. The hospital had what I needed. I even managed to get a defibrilator to work. Equipped with pretty much all I need for urgent first aid, I feel comfortable to travel on north. I searched the town to prepare for the journey, but after hearing sniper shots from the hills, I decided to leave in a hurry. You cannot explain to a sniper that you are a doctor. Or at least I am not prepared to try. They might be also infested with the Z-virus, in the beginning stages of de-humanization. I met some suriviors near Kamyshovo and questioned them about the infection and where I was. We decided to try to push for Berenzino, to the North. I managed to help them with my food and drinks, there were only minor injuries that did not need treatment. Some infected survivor ran up to my mate, punching him over, grabbing the M4 that I had given him. Luckily, there was no ammo. He also tried to hit me, but did not dare to come close when I pulled the axe. I did not want to hit him, as I have sworn an oath to help and not to hurt. My mate managed to knock him over, after the madman chased towards me. I kept him from punching the man to death, then we fled. T+7: Solnichny We arrived in Solnichny after a long walk to what I guess is Nort-West. At the beginning of the village, we saw a man running from 4 Zeds. We decided against confronting them. I hope he is well, but we could not do anything to help him. I managed to gather more medical supplies. North of Solnichny, on a factory compound, we were ambushed by a group of infected survivors. They clearly had lost most parts of their human nature, as they were sadistic and simply insane. I tried to reason with them, but to no result. I pleaded for my life, after they handcuffed me and wanted to execute me, but I think they were intent on killing me. I assume this must be a beginning stage of de-humanisation, likely early stages of infection that decreases higher brain activity and increases instincts like bestiality, aggression and irrational behaviour. I miraculously (//oorp: server restart) managed to get away with my life, they took everything else though. Even my yellow raincoat. Fuckers. I woke up almost naked, but alive after a hit to the head with a buttstock, I assume. Might have been a baseball bat. They likely assumed I was dead. I was joined by some other survivors who helped me up and I found clothes and equipment together with them. I miss my compass. And my medical gear. But it can be replaced. So, I will just have to make do with what I have. T+8: Berenzino We travelled as a team of three to Berenzino to find myself some new medical equipment. In Berenzino's medical facility, we suddenly were shot at. I managed to bandage my wounded comrade, but then things went chaotic. An insane, blood-crazed human ran into the medical building and slaughtered one of my travel mates with a garden tool. Last I saw of the man I had bandaged was that he was hunting the crazy infected. I have not seen him again, but I met the crazed one again who was hunting me. I ran, after trying to reason with him. I likely could have killed him. I should have. But I swore the Hippocratic Oath. He is a patient, and my axe is not the cure as long as he is a human. Still, I hope my mate made it out. I could not search any longer with that infected after me. Looking back, I saw a lot of infested running into the center. I somehow hope they tear the asshole to bits, another part of me hopes he survives and manages. Anyway, I made it out. I'll remember Berenzino for that incredible sprint with that insane infected on me. I made it to Khelm, where I supplied myself with food and water, also with some better clothing. I can travel in the rain now again, but first I am drying my things. I also need some rest. I miss my yellow raincoat though. I'll need to find one again. Tomorrow I will make my way to Krasnostav, I guess, hoping to find out what happened to my team. ______ //to be edited and continued ;) Kudos to all players I interacted today!

I am still very fresh, but slowly getting into it, so please forgive me my newbie questions. I am interested in how careful your play. If you assume that you are alone, I assume most jog/run (like when moving between cities). When approaching a city, do you divert from the road, crouch and scan the city (I mean.. 40 players max. It's very unlikely that you meet someone outside of the hot spots (fire/police station, etc), or do you just barge in and make things quick (taking the obvious risk). And, my last, likely most important question as I just died another very... unworthy death (logged out where I thought it was safe. Came back to hear a single shot and wake up to the "You are dead" screen): What are the signs of danger that tell you: "F.... now I better get off thr road, look for cover, and take my time?" I somehow feel I die a lot because I am reckless because I can't stop thinking: "Ah... there is no one... why waste time sneaking around?". How careful are you?

Horrible starts after update.

Epic picture. Now imaging a group of survivors, trapped in there, with 10 shots only. :D Use pencil + paper. Write last will. Shoot yourself. :D -
New zombies mess me up, how do you win?
cuddly_rabbit replied to Brimstone99's topic in New Player Discussion
One word: Fireaxe. 1 hit kill. Get that one and Z are no problem any more. Splitting axe: 2 hits to kill. Solo Zs are not much of a problem, hordes still are. With all the rest, you have to go for the head. A solo Z can be beaten dead with fists/all other melee weapons easily, if you aim about 1 centimeter above the head and drop it. When it gets up, punch it to the ground again. Rinse and repeat. I only found the baseball bat to be totally useless, as I can't hit the head when using it. -
Make a splint from "sticks + rags". Apply it. Fixes the broken limb. Also fixes the "my leg hurts" when there is no "fracture" warning.

Is this a desync problem? What can I do to avoid it next time?
cuddly_rabbit posted a topic in Troubleshooting
I got a weird desync (?) problem that I encountered yesterday. My desync was 100.000 (according to my mates, it showed "0" to me) and it seems I never got "synced". I did not get any red/yellow chainlink symbols at all. Whenever I did something in my inventory, it took 10 seconds to respond and give me the options of what I could do. Weapon shortcuts would not react, so I was totally defenseless. I could however run around normally, just every interaction with the environment was not "mirrored back" to me, I assume. Interestingly, my mates on Teamspeak could see every of my actions, like "you are holding your axe now", while I did not see any reaction. Seems the server did not send me back the vital information for some reason. I did not upload/download anything. My ping was normal/good (~50). And there were some servers that seem to not be affected. All DayZ DE however had the problem, it seems. It resulted in the death of my character as I could not see the Zeds that were there in reality. :( Is there anything I can do on my side to avoid that? Is it related to special server? Or special areas? Equipment? Broken items? I am kind of clueless and want to avoid it in the future as it led to the first really frustrating moment in DayZ when I was slaughtered by invisible Z after I made it to the airfield and meet up with my mates for the first time. QQ (I know, Alpha... still it kinda hurts) Andy -

cuddly_rabbit replied to cuddly_rabbit's topic in Troubleshooting
And today again. Desync (100.000) kicked in exactly when other players came close and we prepared for confrontation. It did not during the hour of moving into position... *sighs* I'd like to understand it. I get desync-killed (don't even realize it), and after respawning, everything is perfectly fine again. This is weird. Would be grateful for advice on what I can do to avoid this. It's kind of silly to get gear and then die while frozen without any chance to even do anything. 3rd time now this has happened. -
Nice. It's nice to see someone playing a role, and not going like "oorp/meta". It makes the game much better.

Suggestions: Wardrobe for early game; Allow 2nd character
cuddly_rabbit posted a topic in Suggestions
I have 2 suggestions that I would like to make. 1. Wardrobe: Underlying thoughts: > a new spawn becomes "more than just the useless thing" by making it look "different". At least for me. If I look like a "survivor", I also start feeling like one. White shirt and jeans, 2 rags... that does feel like "new worthless spawn" and kills immersion. > realistically, it should not be hard to find something to dress yourself in. If someone ransacked my appartment, I bet 20 people could get dressed. Suggestion: The Wardrobe It's a model of a wardrobe, located in many/most houses. It does not need clothing models (that take performance, need spawning, etc) When opened, it offers a list of clothes, like * jeans (black damaged) * jeans (blue damaged) * shirt (red worn) *... Of course no green, no camo, 1st tier items, nothing that gives you an advantage. Those should be searched for, ofc! Looking through a few houses, you should be able to look different, unique, and start identifying yourself with your figure much better than spending 20 mins in white+blue, yelling "I am a NEEEEWBIE!!! Treat me like one!!!" by looks only. 2. Allow more than one character: DayZ is a game that is most fun when you play it as a team. Solo is not that much fun (my subjective view). DayZ is unforgiving, you die fast without much chance to avoid it sometimes. (no criticism, just fact) Player death rips groups apart because of the huge distances. An example: At the moment, I am the only survivor of a group of 3 near a military base. I would love to join the other guys looting beginner stuff at the ocean, gearing up again. But if I do that, I have to run for 30 minutes, alone. Underlying thought: Wouldn't it be nice if you could just log off your surviving char that is e.g. in Cherno and restart together with the killed guys, keep them company, and gear up together? Suggestion: Allow for a limited number of characters to allow players to cooperate more easily. 3 well placed characters could cover most of the playing field, and would also help in "overcoming" the pain of char loss, if you can e.g. log into char 2, that is nearer to your mates, half-equipped instead of being 20 km away as a new spawn. These are the thoughts of a very new player, though. I'll just see what your thoughts are. Constructive feedback is very welcome. ;) Andy -
Even with a broken leg I try to take on a squad of 5
cuddly_rabbit replied to superftlol's topic in Gallery
Nice. Looking forward to something like that. :) -
Hey guys! :) Found this thread while searching through the DayZ world. I am Andy, 35, from Germany. I have always loved the zombie-survival genre and I am a very experience roleplayer (~25 years), so this perma-death, hardcore survival scenario offers perfect opportunities to try. Found out in my first 40 hours on DayZ that it can be really tense, immersive like hell, and when you play it like it is meant to be and not like a simple shooter, it can be almost scary in intensity. Best immersive moment so far was writing my char's last will (pen+paper) while waiting for the rain to stop. I am looking forward to some tense roleplay that goes beyond the "player talks to player", replacing it by "survivor talks to survivor".

Just a little update: Today it is fine again. Weird. (yet I will not complain, of course) :D
