  1. This has been happening to some servers all day, likely related to the DDoS attacks on the hive. They are desynchronizing from the master server, meaning you will still be able to run around and your character location will update. But if you're in a vehicle, try to loot anything, etc., it will all get rolled back once the server resynchronizes again. I lost a bike on a different server earlier today because the server desynced while I was riding it around Stary Sobor... unfortunately, I didn't realize this until I was in Berezino. After I tried to relog the server was showing up as offline, and by the time I got back on for real the bike was gone. This bike had been sitting in my camp for 3+ days, so it's highly unlikely any sort of foul play was involved in the server going down. TL;DR, it's not admin abuse, just bad luck. The servers are desyncing, which essentially means they're offline because even if you're still able to get on and play, nothing you do while they're in a desynchronized state will save; it will all get rolled back.
  2. I know most of them are set to despawn if unused after X amount of days, but is that based off real dates or how long the server has been running? If a server was down 7+ days, then brought back online, would it instantly despawn all the vehicles on the map?

Video: How is he still alive!!!?

Wait, first person isn't accurate even when using iron sights? Doesn't that make Q and E pretty much worthless?

Have sent out PMs to a couple people associated with the owner of the server, guess we'll see. Starting to look like it's dead though.
  5. Isn't this the same as setting Pre-Rendered Frames to 0 under your video card control panel? I read somewhere that it can actually cause your performance to become worse in situations where you legitimately have low FPS, so I never tried messing with it even though most ARMA 2 optimization guides suggest it. On the subject of mouse lag, disabling smoothing will definitely help with that. However after having played ARMA 2 with it on for a while, I'm one of the weird people that actually kind of prefers it now... you get used to aiming with it, and it feels much easier to maneuver with it turned up somewhat. Trying to do a 180 to check behind me with 0 smoothing feels like it takes a half hour.
  6. Those of you saying it's human nature to band together and help one another are trying to have your cake and eat it too. It's human nature to band together, it's certainly not human nature to treat everyone you meet with the same benevolence you'd show to your own little tribe. Entire swathes of the planet have been plagued by civil war and genocide for literally decades, closer to centuries in some areas. Obviously there are significant portions of the human population who are less hung up on this whole murder thing than the posters on this forum. Unsurprising, since you lead a pampered life to have the spare time to play a video game in the first place. Would everybody turn into mass murdering maniacs if civilization collapsed? Most likely not, no. But saying they would is just as unrealistic as acting like everybody you came across would fall all over themselves to accommodate and help you just because you're both members of the same species.

    Is it Exploiting When?

I don't think any of that is considered an exploit by the community at large. Most the bitching is over people disconnecting during firefights or server hopping to farm loot.
  8. Server performance can affect your client performance. Some of them will cause you to have a really low FPS no matter what. Also, I've noticed the game will bog down badly for me sometimes after playing for a while. See if restarting ARMA 2 fixes it. All that aside, ARMA 2 is somewhat notorious for being badly optimized. I wouldn't expect it to run as good as something like Battlefield 3, and you certainly won't be seeing a solid 60 FPS in Cherno or Elektro unless you have a monstrous rig. I've read this is different in the vanilla game, but for Day Z in particular most of my friends' framerates bounce around between 30 and 60 depending on how many buildings are around.

    WHY SO MANY F*CK**G CU*TS?

ITT: OP is butthurt babby, also strangely bumjealous of 'Murika. Please tell me you're from the UK, that would make it even more deliciously ironic. EDIT ^ Oh my God, he is. Hahahaha. Trolling became a little too obvious with the Nazi comments, though.
  10. Somebody you've known for two months isn't your friend, they're just an acquaintance... let alone two weeks. And this is talking about real life, not people on the internet who you've never physically met.

    The definitive VEHICLE SPAWNS thread

Who said I was asking the devs to do anything? I'm only pointing out that the current system isn't optimal, as evidenced by the huge amounts of abuse that goes on with server restarts for the purpose of hoarding/protecting piles of vehicles. Quit being a douchebag.

    Atlanta 43?

You're not going to get it. Take a look through the first few pages of this forum, it's a huge problem with admins who shut their servers down without saying a word to anybody. Better to move on and try to find one hosted by a clan or something, less likely they'll decide to let the rent run out.

    The definitive VEHICLE SPAWNS thread

A few people shouldn't have all the vehicles.
  14. I'm sure Rocket wants the mod to be as popular as possible while still retaining its own charm now that it has experienced a bit of mainstream success, doubly so if he plans on releasing a standalone version. Most of your suggestions would push people away from the game. It's about finding a balance. Being forced to camp out by a fire all night or you freeze to death? Like seriously? NOBODY would play on night servers if that's how it worked, and that's terrible design with 1:1 time ratios. Realism only goes so far, it's fun to play a game with realistic elements as it's a quaint concept with today's generation of games. Taking it as far as you want it to go would drive away 95% of the player base. It barrels past the line between fun and frustration and guns the engine for 6 hours in the wrong direction.

Still down today. Any admin around know what's up?

    Storage and hording

Hoarding gives some people a reason to play, and more reasons to play are good. It also adds a dynamic of defending your camp. They just need to fix it so that you can't hide shit off the boundaries of the map and it would be fine. It's not like you respawn and instantly stock up on goods, you still have to make it to your camp, and there's always a risk somebody will see where you're going and find it if you aren't careful or you hide it too close to coastal areas. And I disagree with the notion that losing absolutely everything you owned every time you die would make people play the game more seriously. From what I've seen it has the opposite effect - a lot of people will be turned off after dying so many times with good gear and will start spending their time PKing along the coast for their jollies. It's not that big of a deal if you die with an Enfield and a couple tools you found in an apartment in Cherno. Getting shot in the back from a mile away when you've been alive for 2 or 3 RL days is another story. Most people require a balance on their frustration level, and I think camps help with that to an extent.

    In game watch de-synch

This. The issue can go much deeper than watches' date=' and it's a [i']huge problem around dusk when some players will be seeing near pitch black and others will see everything as still being daylight.

    Shadow Group? ... seriously?

    The Solo Bandit Survival Guide

So what is the secret to acquiring NVGs that the poor nabs can never hope to figure out? Because server hopping at the barracks isn't exactly a novel concept.
  20. Maderas

This game is becoming less fun.

I find the current starting gear annoying for a variety of reasons (not necessarily the lack of a gun, but the lack of food/water), but honestly, if your friends gave up on the mod completely after a couple hours then they obviously have the attention span of a dead goldfish and wouldn't have stayed for long even if they'd started with AKMs.
  21. Nothing is ever going to stop players from killing one another no matter how hard you make the game.
  22. I have a bad habit of running into people using the invincibility hack.
  23. How big is the blind spot caused by flares? If you have to stand close enough that it illuminates you it rather defeats the purpose, as he could just press N and shoot you in the head the old fashioned way. Anyway, I too would like to see NVGs go for a patch or two just to see the effect it would have on the gameplay. It would also be absolutely hilarious to see how many of the "QQ L2P STUPID NUB" 'hardcores' would start squealing like little bitches with skinned knees when their tent full of easymode night-win buttons got taken away from them. Either that or NVGs need to spawn in more locations than the barracks, because it's fucking dumb that they're completely monopolized by campers and server hoppers at the moment. Make them super rare at deer stands, whatever, but make them spawn somewhere else.

    International Airport

I've been killed by server hoppers who spawned in behind me every time I've tried to investigate the barracks. Finally decided fuck that place, won't be going there again.
  25. This has the potential to be really cool or really fucking stupid depending on how they handle it. Personally I think they ought to hold off on these sort of static 'defenses' until they've figured out a way to deal with server hopping, both because it can make said defenses useless and because it leads to every area with worthwhile loot being completely fenced off/soon trapped to high hell by hoppers who want to protect their farm.
