    Grappling Hooks and Climbing

Yeah, I agree that ropes could be used as "lasso" to drag your enemy / hang it on a tree / tie on a tree/pipe(haha) or attach it to some pipe to climb / drop yourself down. Not that I oppose grappling hook, it would be awesome as well. Here's one crazy idea: Attach lasso on player and attach it to your vehicle in future! Now drive! (Joking)
  2. I would add that if there was strong wind going on, it could be cool if we were unable to hear sounds properly during that. Which means we wouldn't be able to hear foot steps, zeds (so well) and so forth. Of course, gun shots should still be heard. Not to mention what you wear on your head might affect your hearing a little. Good ideas though +1
  3. Not bad ideas at all. I'd enjoy if Zeds were like that, also with some editing the sound might be nice.
  4. Yeah, of course things will go more rough once, ex. server cap is bigger than 40. Competition over spots and cities will rise. Which is fun alright! I am expecting it. :) Nothing wrong with that? I mean its their call. I doubt it would make a "big" problem. ;P You can play however you want no matter what, pretty much.
  5. Not completely fool proof. Join low pop server, check hot spots for 30 Minutes then go to next one, no problem. :P In case your computer crashes or internet shuts down, it should also take those into account as well. I just think the way of preventing with that is quite clumsy. Private databases is the way to go ;P
  6. It is not slow. Check the changelogs. Rate of updates is fine. You'll need that money for many things as it is going for the whole company with 140 workers. Even their yearly salaries go beyond 3-5 million euros or more (approximately). The game has to pay their yearly salaries + other expenses until next big "release" and advertisements before that.
  7. Most of complaintment threads have been based on assumptions and all sort of fallacies. Go for constructive feedback if you do and base your stuff on "real" facts. I'll bet my balls that no one will ignore or close your thread. People assume things they don't know for certain, that shouldn't be the base for any feedback. Although you can analyze things calmly and raise your concerns, but try not to claim it as "fact" how you speak about it, else you are being a bit delusional / basing things on fallacy.
  8. In that scenario I'd say "Shit happens" and thank god this game isn't any mmorpg. :D You can easily buildup your character and stuff within a day or less. Actually just hours if we talk about gear, but dunno about the persistent stuff that might be inc.
  9. Although currently everyone shares same database. I believe they might allow servers to have their own databases, which means that if you have character at one server, you can't use it anywhere else. So basically everything you do is bound to the particular server you are at. Kills hopping too, perfect, ain't it?
  10. http://dayz.gamepedia.com/Changelog Updates are quite frequent and decent sized. Bigger systems take A LOT of time and testing. You can't simply fix them by increasing developer count or funding. Its limited how many can work on same case/feature/system simultaneously. Not everything from regular jobs at real life can be applied on programming in order to boost "efficiency". Hiring new devs takes a lot time to get them familiar with the engine too, which reduces the working time from actual devs. There is so much you need to know before you can criticize them properly without just being ignorant. Not to mention the fact we are on Alpha. We have accepted this when we first entered, didn't we? I am positve that DayZ is going to be fine game.

    DayZ's progress is confusing me.

Naw, we can condense this all into one word: Ignorance.
  12. Hello! Lately I've been doing some thinking and reading these forums while also playing the game itself. Which led me to noticing that DayZ has a problem which is: KoS = Kill on Sight. (No shit!?!) I'm sure KoS isn't anything new to anyone. We cannot prevent this by condemning/disapproving this behaviour in any way. While also we have to admit that if we think realistically, it could very well happen in a real world situation where world has fallen into complete anarchy. However, I believe most would still resort to other choices/alternatives to resolve conflicts or those situations. I feel like DayZ should be the same in that matter, while also not forcing PvP lunatics to obey invisible "rules". I believe it should come directly from gameplay mechanics to encourage different approaching in the game. In case someone likes the way it is, perhaps there should be alternative mods/plugins/modes to support these in the future, not just communities trying desperately to recruit certain type of people. Similarly as in Minecraft. Basically, DayZ could be very deep game. In fact, even in current state you don't have to do much to be "roleplaying" and feeling how fun it is. Though most of my interactions with players have been KoS, which is like slap in to the face of potential depth. In this text I will be just analyzing this "problem" if we may say so, but also trying to keep in mind that some actually like it this way. Not that I wouldn't like killing in DayZ! Firstly, I hope some of you see that if you KoS, you destroy some of the potential fun DayZ allows you to do. In games like Call of Duty, there is no particular reason not to kill your enemy, actually its the main goal/you have to do it in order to reach main goal. In DayZ you have the freedom and you can play in much more versatile way compared to CoD (obviously). Its the easiest and safest solution just to kill players in DayZ, especially if you got something to lose. Anyway, here is something to think about: Why would you play like in CoD if there is room for so much more? Don't dumb the game down to another fps shooter game. At least when the Game is actually "trying" to be more then just another fps shooter. Yes, DayZ PvP is much more exciting due to its high risks, I agree on that. But, its not the everything you can do. This is just my view. Here is ways to interact with other players instead of doing just typical killing: * Rob them: Make them go onto their knees, handcuff them or don't, but take their stuff. * Force feed: Be nasty, after robbing you may give him a little partaway present. * Charity: Or you could just refrain yourself from robbing and give him food or leave stuff out of pity for the robbed guy. * Ask/Share Info: You could ask has the xxxx area been looted or how dangerous there is or whatever you want to know. * Trade Supplies: You could ask for drink/ammo/food/weapon/bandage/any in return for any other supply/item. * Group Up: Group up with some random guys/gals to feel more safer and possibly gain something from it, ex. food for hunger or treatment if you go down. * Take hostage: You could demand all sorts of things in for freeing the hostage. Depending on the situation you might go out with win/win result or it could turn into bloodbath. * Territory claims: You could state to people that certain area belongs now temporarily to your group and if they won't leave, they will face the consequences. * Roles: These may be just within groups or you may choose act in your own role. Like example. you could become a hunter who sells his prey to groups, or a man who always has the right supplies for groups. You could even form a relationship as they might offer their protection to you, or even take you into their group. * Bounty Hunter/Henchman/Guard: Become a guard or henchman for someone in return for something, or just for the fun of it. You've got clear goal in your head, you have to confirm your "clients" intentions and possible target and possibly ask a reason why if you are curious. There is just few, I think the list could go on forever. Its all about your imagination. If you don't have any, try one of these and you may even find it likable thing to do. DayZ is relying completely on players behaviour and how they choose to play it. The majority will choose to KoS, as it "may" be "smartest" thing in order to retain your gear and also have fun. Obviously you can't just trust others so much for these other features to work out well? Probably this is the case, unless you've got good community. So, I've been wondering if "Roleplay" mode would be applied and made as another choice among regular/hardcore. In this mode your standing would be shown if you target the player. Status colors would be: Red(Bad), Yellow(Neutral) and Green(Trusted). Status persists even after death, though it would rise slowly as to give you a new chance if you've been bad boy(only up to neutral). With this it would be clear as day who you can trust and who you can't. Status would drop by doing "nasty" things, like killing/robbing and increase above neutral from unique player feedback. Unique player feedback is from succesful roleplay events and only limitedly given (similar to reputation in forums). In gaming world we cannot "sense" or "feel" as well as we could in real life to know when we should be on alert, so this system would do that for us. Of course, not even green standing would quarentee anything, but it would just be more likely to be "friendly" fellow with whom you can do these stuff. There should be more "downsides" to roleplaying mode in order to discourage KoS. Perhaps longer spawning times and weapons being even more rare as they are now. It would be nice if people in-game would generally look more like typical survivors and not armed soldiers. Possibly just for this mode or in general, I don't really care. Guns could be used in trading and considered as very valuable asset compared what to they are now. Of course your regular or hardcore character cannot play in roleplay server. Don't know if I got it all in, but keep in mind that what I am sort of "suggesting" is just optional mode, not forced upon everyone. I might be overlooking something, if that is the case I hope you correct me and express yourself. :P And any other feedback is also welcome.

    Remove Zombies until they're fixed.

Although, the guy who does spray cans doesn't do the actual coding that is involved with zeds/zombies. In otherwords, getting dat Art/Animator guy to do coding won't help at all. This thread smells like ignorance, just close it.

    Dear Developer-Team of DayZ

God, so much ignorant people. DayZ standalone progress isn't even slow, in fact it is progressing just fine. Why do some people buy Alpha? You would avoid all this if you didn't. I'd suggest to learn about game development before you rant about it. In 3 months to 0.43 version, and now even in somewhat playable form? Not bad. <-- Thats what you should be saying. If you read their tweets and what is going on experimental, you'd realize that they aren't just sitting and sucking their thumbs either. Even experimental isn't the whole truth what is being developed and what not. You cannot rant about something you don't know nothing about or else you are just ignorant. Although, many people live happily in ignorance. But, thats just another story.

    Depth in DayZ (Roleplay? KoS?)

Yeah, but what I am suggesting is optional. You don't have to join the server with "roleplay" mode and I am not fully denying KoS, but it should be discouraged by the game/mode. We cannot prevent it fully unless we build private communities. Anyhow, I am all into more difficult and versatile gaming. Finding food is "alright" to some degree once spawns are functional, but there is so much weapons, I am worried about that if we put too much weight on that stuff. At least its not going to discourage or make KoS less frequent. Though things may be different once servers max player cap is increased, as the demand will rise. Also we must admit that we don't have all the ways to feel/perceive if the person is trustworthy at first sight, characters doesn't have that advanced body language to give us enough time to make our decision for certain. Its safer to shoot. I can only trust guy with no weapons or if I don't have anything to lose.

    Steam-Friend Spawnings!

Seriously, take those black glasses of your eyes. I know the terrain and so does my friend. I mean there is nothing new to explore for us, we just simply need to get together once we spawn. We don't play solo, thats the point of it. Get that to your thick skulls and stop saying wasting 20 minutes is something that how it is supposed to be, especially when the two players who spawn at same location would have to travel anyway. Currently it isn't as friendly towards ppl who play with their friends as it is for solo players. Solo can just go off to any direction he wants, we just have no choice but to waste potential gameplay time to traveling. Some here misunderstand this quite a bit and don't even try to think about it realistically. All you do is spawn at random location like normally you would, but together. You will have to travel normally just like anyone else after that. So, basically if there was such function, you wouldn't use it? You would waste your time instead even though there will be nothing for you to explore (once you know the game). Not to mention that if you ever get to work IRL or anything that consumes your time, you'd have more time to spare for this unneccessary traveling, right? Don't forget that this is place for suggestions and the OP did that, so basically you should "shut up", "grow up" and let him have some real feedback that is constructive. Take your watch out next time when traveling to your friend and don't do suicides <- - shouldn't be part of the game, I mean come on, where in world you do suicides in order to get closer? :) It is great idea now and in future as well. It doesn't have to be steam, the idea of spawning together with your friend is just good. Your points doesn't apply to players who have played for couple days. Besides, why do you think that two/three players who start together would discover or explore less than solo player? Because, thats what you are trying to say. They are in same position, they'll start of in random location together but that doesn't take away their traveling just like solo players do. I mean come on... Traveling isn't a challenge or anything once you know the game and it isn't taken away even if you start from same location when you spawn. We know that everyone starts of from coastal areas. I know exactly the most efficient way to meet up with your friend and I am saying that is waste of time. Just give us a function to let us meet properly when we both die and start of as fresh spawns. I'd rather not do suicides or run pointlessly, because we'll have to run after meeting each other anyway. Its just extra step.

    Steam-Friend Spawnings!

Exactly! I'd rather not waste 20 mins for nothing.

    Fix those glitched sounds already!

High-priority bug, or not. Can you activate your brain next time when you think of posting? It is not even a suggestion.
  19. Mahado

    Steam-Friend Spawnings!

It is utter and completely waste of time just because there isn't feature supporting gaming with your friend. You cannot argue over this fact. If you both start over as fresh spawn, I see no reason why they should spawn at different locations and be forced to run in order to meet each other.

    Pushing players

Yeah, but actual key binding to do it and animation to back it up. The current one is just glitching :D Tackle / push, perhaps it would appear as an option for 'F' key when near running player or player who is standing.
  21. The shit should be on him then, as I didn't have high latency. So why wouldn't we all just download internet limiters (programs) and limit ourselves purposefully just to appear blinking..? It was possible in the past in World of Warcraft as well.
  22. Mahado

    Steam-Friend Spawnings!

No, you can do that. Its more likely that in zombie apocalypse you'd be with someone when things go shit. Not to mention its benefits for players who play with their friends, if you don't have one or you don't play much with him/her, don't comment. Its not your feature then. Its stupid that you need to run or do suicides in order to meet with your friend, its nothing but an obstacle before you can start playing. The spawn could still be random like it is now, it is just that you would spawn together wherever it chooses you to spawn. (coastal areas)
  23. What is that when player seems to be blinking like 50 meters instantly? Then suddenly he is back at you and hits you with axe, while blinking around you. Again, he goes 50 meters away instantly (not always the same direction and can do it multiple times to same direction). It was impossible to hit him while he could hit us.

    Kill on Sight rules

Build up your own community or join an existing one that has some rules to follow. That may prevent KoS to some degree.
