Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
surfarcher replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
Yeah I'd pretty much agree with all of that. In the context of DayZ it's frustrating to be told an agile (not hybrid) development methodology is in place, but not see the rapid turnaround that is key to the methodology... -

OK I just re-read my post and damn it sounded rude. I'm sorry for that, some of my work-life frustration has crossed over here and my response to you read as short and rude. I unreservedly apologize for that. Yes, I was talking about Agile software development, which should properly be associated with an Agile project management approach. But that's not always the case. FWIW my work situation involves working with groups (development, infrastructure, support and others) that pay lip service to Agile methodologies but practice something much closer to Waterfall. It's frustrating and you can probably imagine how my cynicism boiled over seeing something apparently quite similar here :-( No excuses, but maybe you can see where I am coming from. -

Scrum is a variation of Agile. Go read the Agile Manifesto and then answer a question for me "where is the rapid delivery?" A certain zombie survival MMO is about to go into release has demonstrated a significantly more Agile approach by strong alignment with principle 1. But what would I really know? Even though I've been in the industry 21 years I'm not inside the dev team... Are you? -

Sure, maybe those would be good options - I leave it to the devs to decide. But my basic point was that zombies are currently just a little OP. While I think they need to be reined back just a little I would hate to see them get nerfed too hard. -

So... I am wrong but I am right? LOL! Dude... I was saying the current combination of the three just feels like too much. Hence the damn "OR" being put in my post - leaving it up to the devs to decide which. You see, I want Zeds to be dangerous. Just not so over the top lol That said, IMHO damage probably is the attribute that should be tweaked back just a smidgeon. That might be right in the sweet spot. I just didn't presume to tell the devs which attribute it should be ;) -

Look. Currently zombies are faster than me, stronger than me and take more hits than me to kill. Those three factors together make them too much, IMHO. Zeds like this don't discourage KoS or do anything else good for the game. All they do is discourage solo play and exploring (and I am an explorer by nature, dammit!). These Zeds just encourage people to team up and get firearms... Not a great combo IMHO. Make the Zeds slightly slower or slightly weaker or slightly easier to kill and I think those aspects of Zombies will be perfect. Which just leaves the damned glitchiness of them to be fixed. Which might wait until the actually start work on the final Zeds. Too bad the devs are using Waterfall instead of Agile... This game would be evolving at a very rapid case if they were... -

The interesting semantics of Undead vs infected aside... To me the current combination of speed, senses, damage and "health" (unhealth maybe?) are just a bit too much togethor. If just one of those factors was tweaked back a bit I think they'd be close to the sweet spot - with one provisio. That is, as many have stated above) - the environment and stealth need to matter. The damn things glitching through walls/doors is just *ugh*, for example. -
Coders being able to customise servers somewhat based on an API & plugin structure would be pretty awesome. I know I'd enjoy coding for it :D

Oh I don;t think zones should only be for "peacful places"! High Zed spawns and all other kinds of things coulke for some really interesting play! The thing is, even in mods liek Epoch a safe zone isn't possible. Someone always griefs it. lol. I guess I feel a better supporting mechanic would be good. Anyway, there's a number of ways zones could swing an I thought it was worth consideration. Thanks for the thoughts folks and more would be welcome.

So... Viva le KoS! (?)

KoSers don't want your loot... Guessing you don't like NPC guards either??

Hi Chaingunfighter! I think it would depend on how it was implemented and built. There are spins and variations you could make on the basic idea. Like maybe it's "minimal PVP" where you don't die but go down to unconsicous, very low blood and energy and where each hit damages an item carried in that part of the body. Or maybe NPC "crowd control" could be added. You can start a fight, even kill another player. But you are going to get beaten for about the same amount of damage as the other guy took... Unless you are very, very quick on your feet. There are other possibilities too. The thing is, without server protection it ends up at best like Epoc. Even the best built base can be taken down with satchel charges. You can't have a true safe zone built under the current server rules. And as things stand there are no basic mechanics in the game the encourage a playstyle beyond KoS.

It just occurred to me that my post on the KoS thread is about more than just KoS. So I figured I'd post it in here too... Admins: I don't think this cross-posting is breaking rules? If it is please do delete this post.

Basically it'd be nice to put little personal notes on servers, at least those in your Favorites. Something like 100 characters would be great, but even as little as 20 would be useful. Obviously if it could display in the list (even paritally) that would be useful. Hover-to-see would be fine too.
