Can you trust a stranger with a loaded gun?
AzrailCross replied to SentencedToBurn's topic in General Discussion
Perhaps one of the worst encounters of 'trust' I've had so might have been my own doing or .. just a good example of a first encounter with two well armed people meeting. All started with a rare occurrence that began with having one of my m4 clips and a pistol clip both disappear from my inventory after a server restart; (had just reloaded while yellow chained I think, and something screwy happen I guess, I'm not even positive.) Either way I have my current m4 clip and one spare and my FNX clip and one spare so it's not like I'm remotely disarmed. But still I make the risky call of heading toward town and check the sign to make 100% sure where I am, and end up deciding to head toward the southwest air-force base rather than the one further north; figure the server just reset so either I'm going to see an army log in, or nobody: and can get there more quickly than anywhere else I figure -if- I'm cautious all will be fine. Just gotta play it smart, get in - find a M4 mag maybe a pistol mag and get out and with some real luck find something else worth keeping though I can't imagine what, already have everything I could imagine I'd want to carry. Awhile later, I'm in the treeline near at the west side of the AFB and look in my inventory; realize how stupid an idea it is to risk all that I have over two clips I can find over time given I couldn't be any more well equip, my heart is starting to pound; such an open area and one good sniper shot and I'm down, four other people are on the playerlist and two of them are clearly a team. (Thaiarmy>Name for both of them I think) So against my better judgement I run through the AFB fence and crouch in some brush and all of a sudden I hear a groan, start to think I aggro'd a zombie but I keep my M4 up and raise the optics, only to see the zombie heading toward me at first and then bolted to his right toward the military building; next thing I see is a guy sprinting out and I remain crouched, watching him flee toward the 3 Barracks, now I'm really nervous, I think for a moment I should just leave: but instead start crouch-running behind the buildings since I know exactly where he's going, I duck in behind the one I know he's in because at this point - he's unloading M4 rounds into the zombies himself; and I make the call to go on voice "You friendly?" when the firing stops ... "YOU FRIENDLY!" and I hear him go 'what?' ... "OH OH YES FRiENDLY FRIENDLY" .. convincingly, just like he doesn't fully comprehend what I'd asked.. same moment I see a zombie aggro me and start filling it and the rest of them with holes and I hear him just shouting "OH GOD FRiENDLY FRIENDLY!" "FRIENDLY PLEASE STOP SHOOTING FRIENDLY!" ... Well in the end he pops out of the Barracks and I take out a zombie near him, keep my gun up and on him 'just in case' only to hear him ask "What's your name" .. so I reply and ask his, he replies "Thai I'm thai" and then I know I'm probably in trouble, since I'm almost positive he has a friend around, but he doesn't say anything for a moment, we've both got our weapons up pointing at each other, I'll lower mine a moment, he'll lower his, then raise his back up and I'll raise mine back up.. clearly we're both uncertain of each other, then puts his weapon anyway and raises his hand in a wave, so I lower my weapon to and for a few moments things are fine. I start to speak when I see him draw his weapon again - and naturally so do I - right at the same time: then it happen, he shot a zombie charging him and he makes a quick turn toward me so I raise my weapon again pointing toward him and shoots me once in the chest without hesitation; my camo vest was ruined - I literally was in shock but I instantly unloaded around 22 rounds into him from hip to head in a split second... Walk up to his bleeding body and murmur "Why man, why'd you have to shoot?" and check his pulse, faint, so I try to start to bandage him, have more than enough morphine and bandages and epi to save him but it was already to late, by the time I got bandages out he was dead and gone and I knew I had to get out before the other Thaiarmy guy shows up. So I quickly grabs some of his 5.56MM rounds and naturally one of his 40 round clips and ditch without even caring to loot anything more or the base. Was just 'really' at the end, 'why' .. just 'why' .. did he accidentally shoot? Was he just trying to get me to go unconscience to rob me and let me live? Did he think the one shot would kill me or did he mean to do more but I responded to quickly? Don't know, and I suppose I don't care. I don't trust anyone enough to let them get away with shooting me once. I've only had one 'better' experience and that was as a fresh spawn I was being chased by a horde of zombies and a group of 4 took out the zombie and gave me a gun and we started looting together, but that's just me being trustworthy so I can't say I have any experience of someone else being armed and NOT trying to kill me yet :| -
I dont understand why there is no AUTO RUN KEY!!!
AzrailCross replied to Bohannan (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
Don't forget the auto-crawlers who you'll get the fun opportunity to knockout with your fist and use as your personal test subject. "Subject 28 has been restrained and began vomiting only 12 seconds after injesting test material 'Rotten Kiwi' and appears to have passed out again, will begin resuscitation and see if this food poisoning has any adverse effects on the infected. *Gunshot is heard* ... and so the test begins." Sidenote; I know not everyone would use a built in autorun to AFK travel, but let's face it some would and it'd be a hilarious outcome. Still, while I don't use an autorun presently I could set one up in literally 15 seconds and use it effectively as a means to just not have to hold down the button while still zig-zagging and heading between cover points; so it's not like it'd be a horrid thing. But on the same token it's so easily setup without it being an in game option it hardly matters IMO but wouldn't hurt anything to have - save for those that choose to basically be target practice. -
First time I got handcuffs I tried to lock a zombie up in the hopes of getting a undiscovered option to chop off it's lower jaw and cut out the upper teeth then consider it's arms... my own pack mule. Or at the least get the option to bash in it's teeth and attach a chain to the handcuffs to make it a harmless mobile backpack until the cuffs wore out.

I dont understand why there is no AUTO RUN KEY!!!
AzrailCross replied to Bohannan (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
Just nab about any keyboard function altering program and theres your autorun. Own a gaming mouse? Odds are it comes with a configure program; in my case my sprint function is set to mouse 4 and 3PP to mouse 5; and can set M4 to Macro-Hold until reclicked so I'm sprinting everywhere until I'm ready to stop. As others have said, could just be lazier and put a heavy coin on the W key, or plug in a Xbox 360 Controller and pin the movement stick forward in a number of ways. Edit: New Objective! Put Xbox Controller on the floor and use your feet to control the movement stick. True DayZ pro's don't use WASD! :O -
Found one awhile ago.. still wishing we could paint it from blue :3 In a broken down ship, in one of the bed areas. Same spot I think your talking about.

If it's a prototype lawnmower that I paid to test, yes.. that is sort of what you've done by going for the Alpha. You find the bugs with it, like the blades becoming projectiles and taking off your mailbox and dismembering your neighbor and you report them to get it fixed in due time, in the meantime you keep testing it for more bugs, If the lawnmower becomes sentient and starts to issue commands it's time to worry.
-
This is just from my experience/opinion, and no doubt it's Alpha and has a long way to go but I can't say there is a single thing that truly grates on my nerves here. It has it's issues, but everything i've encountered that's a problem has a way to be avoided.

Help with tactics, and avoiding miscommunication
AzrailCross replied to pskitz's topic in General Discussion
Best tactic is to familiarize yourself with what your friends are wearing at all times, preferably ensure each of you wear the same thing: like everyone wears a cowboy hat, and then remember each friend is wearing x color cloths with x color and size backpack. Always communicate when your changing attires and make sure everyone gets a good look at your new - well - look. Generally it's in everyone's best interest to stick closely together anyway, I always cover the door while my girlfriend scouts out the building for supplies and calls out whats there; if she doesn't have room she replaces me and I go looting. We always avoid main roads and railroads where possible and take covered entry into areas; never standing shoulder to shoulder but also never out of sight of one other at a glance. The worst situation we came across is when we get careless and separate, at one point I literally walked up on a guy who was wearing all the same colors. She looked up at my screen and said 'yeah that's me' so I walked in closer like 5 feet away and he turned around so I saw his mask and was like *FFFFUUUUU* .. gratefully I think my shouldered m4 scared him more because he pulled at 180 and bolted down the street but still. -
You know, I may have missed something while I was asleep but I don't think my post was ever addressed: not that I feel ignored.. :sad face: But still the point remains that I'm wondering what your answer would be; why is it a grind? Why do you feel a need -to- grind for EVERYTHING? Or more specifically why are you grinding for -anything-? Finding a random pistol, double-rifle, shotgun or the like is a 10-15 minute adventure in most cases, can usually find one within searching two towns or even more commonly only searching farm houses, police stations, firehouses, military structures and storage units and with that in mind, once you have any ONE of the easiest to find guns with a few shots of ammo *EVEN* if your wearing nothing at all but a childs carrybag with rags and a stick your now as dangerous as someone with a m4 in camo and 'everything' else, so why does it matter if you have a fully modified out pristine M4 with crates and extra everything under the sun, there isn't a REASON to be that decked out. Obtaining the simple; possessing a few rags and a stick or two with a little food and a few cans of soda with any gun at all and your as well off as you can be really. Of course having your favorite scope might feel more comfortable to use, but it's not really going to make the difference of life or death if you just learn to cope with what you have like you generally have to in a survival situation, the only real exception is your trying to be a sniper which isn't something anyone NEEDS but rather is more something select people 'want' so they are safer to KOS or in rarer instances support their friends from afar. So with that in mind; how is it a grind at all when obtaining the basics is a rather short 10-15 minute experience and everything AFTER that is just comforting giving you some padding before you 'need' to find food/water or 'need' to find ammo. Having specific cloths, mods, a bigger backpack, sunglasses, crates, compass, bandages instead of rags.. all these things are just comfort items that aren't going really make a difference.

Currently getting kicked from any server I join.
AzrailCross replied to honeybooboochild's topic in Troubleshooting
Just a heads up me and my girlfriend awhile back had alot of issues with desync / yellow / red chaining and being booted - her's mainly was the previously mentioned reinstall of battleeye for whatever reason (even though hers was up to date) and the other solution was that we didn't just disable our firewalls - as disabling it didn't work - we had to either uninstall our firewall or enter game mode - I don't know WHY game mode totally fixed the issues whereas disabling it didn't help at all, but I'd highly recommend uninstalling your firewall for testing purposes for one playthrough to narrow it down if ALL else fails... and if your more daring do the same to your antivirus as it is 'entirely' possible the active protection is interfering though I doubt it. Hope you get it figured out :D -
I really am starting to wonder if this is a game for you. I think to most people and this is just a assumption for the most part aside from those I know agree... The *main* draw of DayZ even when it was just a mod was the Survival aspect, which ment exactly that.. the house represented items that would help with surviving, and so you checked them, rinsed and repeated with the risk being the Infected - used to slow down your looting so it wasn't a door-opening house robbing simulator, and players used as a means to instill not only an even greater threat, but the only and best ally creating unique dynamics. But all in all DayZ boiled down lives and breathes off of you being the type of person who starts out on the beach and has a instant urge to want to find food, water, and survive; which means looting various places to do so, and each time it never dulls; and even if the looting were to dull and become tedious, the rest of the game - the risk of zombies and other players, the potential loss of all you've obtained and 'not' surviving was the rest of the motivational drive to keep you enjoying the game. That and obviously the other stuff that occurred, people taking hostages, holding interrogations, forming alliances and kill squads and hero groups and forming traps and all sort of other rather well thought out plots that simply would not work or even matter in the least if you didn't care about what you had - and you wouldn't care about what you had unless it was time consuming to obtain. Certainly if your items came without a timesink or grind as you call it, hostages wouldn't mean anything at all, since you'd just respawn with all your gear or close enough to it. There'd be no real tangible reason to take cover or do anything tactical or sensible since.. what do you have to lose? By making things take time and chance to obtain you (should) start to care and be more cautious and realistic in your approach of situations, to hopefully a peaceful resolution so you don't risk losing it all and starting over.

What I won't understand is why it's a 'grind' to begin with, why exactly do you want to be 'fully kited' .. I mean sure, my hardcore character is- no doubt, best of the best everything. But again fact is all it takes is some naked guy with a fireaxe to sneak up behind him and he's dead in one fell swoop. All it takes is finding a pistol with 1 bullet and a headshot and that fully kited character is dead, or a clip and you've got even better odds.. or the more common weapons like a shotgun or double-rifle that you find laying around quite often. Having the best of the best equipment, your exact specification of clothing and all the mods to your primary and secondary weapon and a pristine fireaxe painted black all amount to .. so little it's laughable. I mean sure, a mosin with a long range scope and bi-pod is a requirement for sniper-lovers. But aside from THAT having 'everything' is rather pointless when all you REALLY need is some sticks (or morphine) a couple bandages (or rags) and a pistol (or any common rifle/shotgun) and a few shots to chamber with enough food and water to keep you energized and hydrated which is truthfully a 20-40 minute job, 60-100 minutes if your unlucky but that's max.
-
As other's have said it's a survival game, finding food and water is suppose to be fun; saving yourself from starvation; actually finding a weapon should be a glorious moment that you go from being the hunted zombie-chow on the run to the predator, and if every bit of it feels like a grind there's always the option to just 'grind' for a gun and enough food to eat and water to drink until you can go hunting for players to kill with your newfound pistol or whatever you found as a weapon and try to thrive solely off other people if that's all that tickles your interests. Though preferably there's more to it than that, you know, like taking hostages; playing non-lethal (wound, but never kill and always patch enough they survive - but maybe take what they have that interests you) .. In any case at first I thought loot was rare, thennn.. I learned the map and basically spend my day traveling between several good looting points without server hopping often finding alot of great stuff when I need it. Took about 10 hours total done over I think 3 days now, but my character has a fully pristine m4 with a laser dot scope and bi-pod + silencer with 300ish spare rounds and 3 40 round clips fully loaded; a FNX pistol with a flashlight and two clips with 80 spare rounds, a medkit with epi, morphine, two bandages and antibotics I think, a compass, can opener, cleaning kit, sewing kit, fully camo gear with a vest for extra storage, a hunting backpack, 4 yellow crates one containing all food, one containing 3 water bottles, another containing give-away stuff like an extra canopener and compass and radio; and one containing a scope and comp. for the mosin with another radio I think. Plus an extra bandage, morphine and some 7.62 rounds incase I ever find a mosin.. which is being the more difficult part. Sad thing is.. yeah, 10 hours or something akin to that, lot of grinding! .. cept he found a pistol at around the 15 minute mark or so with a clip luckily enough, and fact is back then he was practically just as dangerous as he is now. Just takes one bullet, and you have some new gear to collect at somebody's elses expense if your not interested in doing it yourself. I'm not a bandit myself, like helping people; but bandit's (the good ones, that don't KOS.) make the game more of a challenge and I welcome that. So long as sniping head-shots from a mile off or plain KOS isn't your thing I say join the bandit take-what-you-want mentality and maybe I'll take you out trying to rob someone, or maybe not :D part of the fun.
-
I think it's all of the above. It's absolutely needed or the game is COD. It's tedious and time consuming because it both NEEDS to be to an extent, and because means of quickly traveling isn't released yet and truthfully the entire system of gathering loot can't be properly addressed until later: when controlled zones are done so we can't spawn into high loot areas anymore (or so I hope that'll be how it will work thus killing server hopping having much meaning) - and of course loot itself needs to respawn and the infected need to be more of a threat before any of it's valid. It should take a long time to fully stock your character in what can be considered 'great gear' and thus make every encounter more tense at the risk of losing it all. In truth it has to be one of the two between time consuming and tedious, to actually make death have a real loss factor to it with the majority.
-
How are we immune to it, I read the infected have a 1% chance of well, infecting the player on attack. Which is incurable, and results in sneezing I believe and just progresses to eat health until you die, only really able to avoid the infected death by keeping yourself energized and hydrated so your regening faster than it kills you. Not arguing with it, just wondering where that came be and if there's a mix up or misinformation about.

Stuck in a rock, sinking into the ground FULLY GEARED CHARACTER
AzrailCross replied to Pokerguy12's topic in General Discussion
See... we're at a point DayZ is evolving on it's own to have the earth itself become infected and trying to eat survivors, there is only one solution.. we need jetpacks. Now. Or a tactical nuke.. or uhm.. well, you know, mountain climbing gear.. I'm not sure which is the better solution, hellfire and radiation or anti-earth stabby climbing picks. Rough choice. Either way goodluck saving yourself from the planet. Only advice I can offer is call a friend to shoot you, cause if relogging/w or prone, crouch, movement spam doesn't fix it that's about the only other solution I can imagine. -
I've been semi-wishing for post-death zombie mode rather than -just- having the body get back up since I first heard about the standalone looong ago. In the case of not getting killed by a head shot at least, to come back as a runner-type zombie that you can choose just to respawn from or continue living as - requiring you eat people to survive or slowly rot away to hunger. Nothing expansive or elaborate, just nahm nahm zombie eat brains try to survive. Edit: Zombie/Infected either way.. suppose if the lore is infected instead of zombie then 'when dying to to the 1% infection rate' that they have- your allowed to continue playing as a rage induced killing machine :P mainly just for the fact on some days I wouldn't mind just being a infected, shambling through town as if I'm just 'one of the rest' and then picking on someone when they are busy looting or when all the other infected have swarmed and the brains are easier pickings. If it all worked well wouldn't be a bad thing to allow the player-controlled infected have a few simple abilities, such as a 'dodge' roll and leap that are faster paced than the player movements to get out of the line of fire and actually give the player-infected a slim fighting chance to at least be an annoyance. Not anything like L4D just enough to be creepy and slightly harder to kill.

Friend joins DayZ he gets 100,000 DeSync
AzrailCross replied to exomonkeyman's topic in General Discussion
and if that doesn't work see if he's set exceptions for DayZ/Battleeye in his firewall, if that still doesn't work have him uninstall his firewall for one playsession and see if it works fine without it. Also slightly off topic, but what's with the container thing Kich? I know having containers within containers within containers causes issues but I imagine just having a backpack filled with containers doesn't do any harm? Well, at least for me. Presently my hardcore character has 4 yellow crates + a ammo box + a medkit if I remember correctly and doesn't have an issue. Obviously all in his backpack, not stacked one within the other. (Feel like I'm on repeat with the firewall thing but had the same issue - randomly - at times, would just pop to 1000000 desync and not even exceptions in my firewall OR disabling it helped. Yet uninstalling it - or - setting it to game mode - made DayZ run flawlessly.. haven't had a invisible zombie, inventory lag, teleporting rubberband, yellow or red chain or fall through wall/floor issue since. Weird fixes.. weird.. fixes.) -
Epic Edit of Epicness: Notice it's been mentioned at least in the last two pages but just for clarity and the fact I'd already written it, well, SO WHAT I DIDN'T SAY IT FIRST .. >blinks blinks< Me and my girlfriend have both have this happen every now and then, just having taken a break and log back in to find one of us is on the coast, so we googled it when it happen and came across the solution anyway.. Basically anytime you log into a server make a note of what it's server name is, and if you log out - and into a new one and your character has been wiped : close out of that server ASAP and return to the one you were on just before it. Your character will 99% of the time be restored. The 1% involves something only she has experienced which was a CTD that when logging back in she was on the shore, but on the same server she'd crashed on - so there was no retrieving her character. It was just gone, for whatever reason. Can't say it was from combat logging since she crashed right next to me on the second floor of a apartment building, and logged back in at shore; her body wasn't anywhere around. This is all from the stable version, and when the 99% happens though rare itself - mostly happens when logging out of a server say for a bite to eat, or just a general eye-break so you can you know - blink - without risking death and then decide to click on another server; seems like the old server doesn't sync properly with the hive sometimes while your still in one play session. So we've taken to the habit of anytime we take breaks of only keeping 2 favorite servers, the one were on last and the one are going to go to if we're looking to join another friend or find a more populated or less populated server so we never lose track of where we were just in case.

I think it could have used one more... you know, with a pause and sort of a epic theme intro. For even more dramatic effect, you dropped the ball on this one. Just saying. @ the Op though, come to think of it in 80 hours though you can't possibly have explored the entire map, take a few days break and come back to try that for a bit. I had fun swimming off to an island and found a few zombies, houses and a water pump.. and a dock; just begging to have a boat put in it.. so going back there after vehicles are added even if it did take fifteen minutes of swimming. Still want to climb to the top of a really tall structure I saw somewhere toward the north at one point.. plenty of interesting locales to enjoy the view if nothing else. Get really bored' do something really nuts. Go out and gather a ton of paper and a pen and start leaving treasure clues all over the city streets all of them guiding people to one location you have setup as a sniper-trap. Cause why not, anyone willing to risk listening to a piece of paper claiming to be a treasure clue deserves to be target practice. .. wait now I want to find paper.. bah.

Technically your not suppose to be playing the game, your suppose to be testing the game. It's alpha after all :P But that aside, it should be expected. The game's not even in beta yet, the core foundation of the game isn't done or even tested fully at this point much less throwing in the bells and whistles that are intended to keep people entertained for countless hours. If your bored, make your own fun; one of the perks of this game is it's endless and open to all sorts of player-made stories. Start making a diary, or hell, find some well equip' enemies and on your own accord only aim for the kneecaps; refuse to kill but instead take hostages and set up radios around electro demanding payment or you'll kill them. Form a group and instead of pew pew PVP >kill all the fresh spawns< do something interesting and refreshing.

Can tell you now my system isn't half bad (not as advanced as yours is, but still) and I still ended up dropping all sets to as low as I could due to FPS lag especially in heavy cities / or during rain. At this point I'm running with literally everything disabled/very low aside from Shadows on normal and Object Detail on Normal. Go through your settings and just slam everything as low as it can get and if the game runs smoothly just have to deal with it for now until it's better optimized. If you've got everything on low across the board and it's completely unplayable the only thing that *you* can do for now is download updated drivers for your system especially for your graphics card and hope that improves it.

trouble with desycing and being dropped from servers
AzrailCross replied to Hairy_eyeball's topic in Troubleshooting
Wish you luck and hope it pans out one way or the other. -
Can barely connect to any servers. Vilayer especially.
AzrailCross replied to voxframe's topic in Troubleshooting
Default advice would be to ensure DayZ is set to administrator (right-click / properties / compatibility / always run as admin) / put the exception for DayZ & Battleeye.dll in your firewall / if that fails set your firewall to gamemode / disable your firewall altogether / uninstall your firewall if all prior fails and try again. Odds are it's a firewall issue entirely blocking your ability to connect to certain servers at least that's the most likely thing I can think of that'd 100% keep you out. Some have said certain routers do similar, but you'd have to do some google searching to find out exactly what advice they gave to setting your router up for DayZ & then apply it to your particular one. While far less likely, it'd be worth it to do the same process with your antivirus just 'incase' something is being blocked by it. Weird as it is don't overlook the firewall though, I disabled mine and still encountered issues - but setting it into game mode fixed the issues; have heard from some friends they had to uninstall their firewall entirely and issues resolved' while just setting exceptions did nothing and most of us are rather knowledgeable with tech, so I don't have any doubts they did the firewall exceptions properly. * also, the Vilayer thing.. I don't have a clue, I have the exact same issue and have just chosen to avoid that particular provider altogether. -
EDITED: Are you happy with CURRENT zombie implementation?
AzrailCross replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
There are better ways to handle it. A peaceful server is a boring server, and no longer a Zombie survival just a bore and endless players killing other players. It's not what the game is for, we have Arma2/3 for that essentially. Proper spawning in will be introduced later I'm sure because this wouldn't cut it for release but like others here I agree they aren't a threat, they have a long way to go, but once they've gotten their 'buffs' and given us reason to fear them their spawning will (hopefully) be more akin to appearing in forests out of sight and a LONG distance away from any active players. If players are being quiet and taking out the zombies silently, replacements might only spawn in 5-60 minutes later in the forest shambling toward the town/city and thus take another 5-10 minutes to even get there, but if something loud such as a gunshot were to happen, instead of shambling toward the city or town they'd be running toward the location of the gunfire and then return to shambling about aimlessly creating a seamless way of repopulating the world without it being in your face as it is now. Just as an example, if you ran into a town and axed down 20 zombies, you'd have (randomly) 5-60 minutes before replacements even begin spawning into the forests far off in potentially all directions or sometimes just in one direction (horde style); and in those forests could randomly be between 5-50 zombies all with random factors to themselves; some might choose to just play dead on the ground while others decide to just shamble aimlessly but keep close to the town, meanwhile ten of the zombies never get the hint to stick around and just keep on walking down the road...... then a gunfire is heard in the forest, and some poor hunter has now attracted a lot of those zombies attentions - all running toward him and would scatter out for awhile in 'hunt' of something to eat, and though some of the zombies garner interest, others just can't be arsed and just keep playing dead or walking around the town being the deaf rotten meat these particular ones are until they spot someone. In the end some zombies would despawn if no players were anywhere near their active area to keep people from creating a billion zombies, but nobody would be the wiser since it all takes place off screen long distances away from players to the point it's logical they just left, and are now elsewhere. But in the end no city would stay empty, and with randomness attached a area that's known to not have much opposition might just end up having a horde shambling around nearby just waiting to be woken up by someone carelessly charging through or pulling the trigger rather than trying to be friendly.
