Poll: Are you happy with update news/management?

Well it shows dedication your still in sleepy state and answering questions on the forums, so that counts for a lot ;D So get your coffee; wake the #&@( up, and order more drywall. Alot.. more drywall. Agreed O: but I'd imagine that's in line for the future too. Experimental is a little to expermenty if nobody knows what to actually strive to test after each new update and hotfix. Still, +1 it'd help a lot. Think I said that once already a few days back in this thread, so more like +2 potentially, but it's to early for me to go back and check.

Now if only I could find someone to trade these beans, for tactical bacon, because, mnh.. bacon. :O By the way, the kids are still running through the walls ruining the new drywall. Just a heads up, that'll be another $10,000,000 renovation before release! [mumbles about expensive pixel buildings] .. oh! - also, most of said kids are wanted for premeditated murder and these guy's claiming to be the police wanted to speak with the dev's-- I mean people in charge of said children.. something about their brother being murdered last week and the apocalypse and all this other mumble jumbo... I stopped listening to them around the time I noticed the the guy in the cowboy hat wearing shorts screaming "let me handcuff you!" while chasing around some half naked woman who looked to be bleeding.. so' yeah.. just be on the lookout for.. well, them. Little batty if you ask me, but those kids are seriously out of control. Also, bacon. On another note, besides you know - bacon - I'm glad to hear the communication will be improved on, though I kind of assumed that too - to begin with :D My assumptions have a good winning streak.

Poll: Are you happy with update news/management?

Quoted for fact.. I'm not a coder, nor can I be considered a professional QA tester; but given the many years testing games in alpha/beta state on various platforms especially the Indie scene; talking to developers and getting to know the difficulties: take their word for it - it's not wrong. Those who disagree try to the same thing and manage to do better yourself to prove him wrong; Arma 3 being a newly developed engine is going to be riddled with unforeseen issues, performance faults, even unknown incompatibilities to features DayZ all but demands to be successful. While those features may eventually be created, the means in which you get them to work could be years away simply because finding the proper tweaks and workarounds to get it to function are *extremely* difficult to create and that's just the start. They picked an engine they are familiar with, is tested and know that they can mold into exactly what they want even if it too still takes creative workarounds, as well as weighing in the pro's and con's of other engines in the process . Most any game you look at, works on an engine that had to practically be mutilated to get to be what they needed, Arma II's is certainly a tested engine that is capable of getting what they wanted out of it, and while I can't psychically know the core reasons, all of the above was no doubt deeply considered and Arma II's engine had it's reasons for being chosen, not just a flip of a coin.

Can Nothing be done about MetaGaming in Dayz?

That isn't an end all to all of the different aspects. For one that isn't really fixing anything, you can't wholly fix it to begin with; the VOIP issue can't be resolved period. My girlfriend is in the same room and plays DayZ with me, can look at her screen anytime; can call my friends up on other computers.. how many people have a 4-8 year old POS junk computer laying around they could dust off and run? I can guess - the majority of people wanting the advantage do if not a brand new one that's extra, or a laptop.. - or a smartphone + skype rather than the actual computer running DayZ. While I'd commend them for trying, and even thumb up for doing it; and taking a stand showing they are against it: it's not the END all of the discussion. For one giving ideas on how to make the ingame communication more appealing would be the best if not the only real solution; making it more convenient to get in touch with friends, and enemies alike at will would encourage it's use over other VOIP software far more than trying to outright ban their use. Nor.. does it even bring up the other two aspects of the thread, the brightness/gamma which does also need fixing, and the 3PP advantage. Which both are still partially ongoing, even though I see no argument that can really stand for either of them; but the more attention a thread brings the more likely it's to see Dev attention, it's popularity rise, and the chance of change occurring. In addition to my 3PP post, it's sad that if they actually put in the 4th wall in a streamlined way - where it blacks out the areas that your character can't see - I'd actually be more compelled to use it - more often than I already do. The mere BS factor of being able to see around walls and such kills the immersion, 3PP itself doesn't destroy it, but the advantage takes away half the intensity of playing, solely because of it's advantages.

Can Nothing be done about MetaGaming in Dayz?

This is all under the serious delusion there IS a 3PP server. Hardcore is NOT 'just' a 1PP server, it's ment to in the future be HARDCORE; harder to survive, not because of 1PP; but for many other reasons that have been mentioned by dev's over many threads and even the dev blogs and videos they haven't implemented yet but intend to by release. Where's your ground to stand on when that's in, you like 1PP so now you can either choose 3PP advantaged 'normal' servers or take all the harder additions of Hardcore ontop of 1PP? Normal is NOT "3pp" servers, it's NORMAL. Allowing both, and both are intended to be on equal playing grounds. Of which your whole idea falls apart anyway, when you factor in the 4th wall 'concept' in DayZ Standalone does NOT cripple 3PP, it puts it on equality with 1PP: and does not create a situation where one person in 3PP has an advantage over the next person in 3PP or the other person in 1PP. By the way, the MOD, is created by ONE person, the dev team at Bohemia can create a far more professional, functional, and tested means of doing this, and as I said it should gray/blackout the areas you can't see so it's not questionable whats in your line of sight: that much is obvious. It's Alpha, they sure as hell can try at this stage, there is again - NO - ground to stand on.

While I agree on the VOIP since there really isn't any end result, most they COULD do is attempt to disable playing while they are in the background doesn't stop it from happening on the person's next computer, smart phone, blah blah.. I'd thumb them up for the effort, but it is in the end pointless; it'd send a message they don't want it happening but it'd still happen despite any amount of efforts put in and isn't the worst thing in the world. I more back the idea (in regards of effectiveness) of having cellphones and radios more readily in game and have them being a more appealing option via being immersive and easily found/used to get in contact with strangers, friends, and even foes for hostage situations in a quick streamlined way that third party providers really can't offer.. but who knows! On the topic of 3PP and the supposed 'anti's' -- there is no reason to take away 3PP .. but it has it's obvious advantage that promotes using it over 1PP and all such advantages need to be fixed so both are on equal playing fields; allowing you to play as what you prefer to rather than playing in one or the other because of quirky ingame mechanics. 4th Wall happens to take away that advantage without providing any faults if it's simply done correctly which we can expect it can and will be since a single *modder* pulled it off; it's alpha, it's time to get it in early and tested throughly, there is no ground to stand on against it. None. I use both, I see the advantage, I use it while it exists, and I end up avoiding 1PP even when I'd prefer to be using it, because of the obvious tactical perk of not actually sticking my neck out to see around the corner or from the rooftop. The only reason to not support evening the playing field is loving the advantage of viewing areas without risking poking your head out to actually see what's around, it's plain and simple.

Can Nothing be done about MetaGaming in Dayz?

... gamma done properly? I'm talking about DayZ here, not RUST and that is NOT gamma done properly. Gamma in game in DayZ is NOT done properly. It's a known issue that it destroys night and is being worked on. When they fix it, your TV and Graphics card settings won't be able to 'get around' nighttime if it's done properly, quite literally limiting what's rendered if it's not in light or via other methods. (it can't even do it now to my knowledge, but even if it can - it can and will be shut down in time if they know what's good for the game, who the hell WANTS to go in and change brightness and gamma settings everytime it's night? How does that even make sense? While it's here, fine, use it, but it needs to go.) It's the in game setting in DayZ that needs work in the way it handles brightness and gamma, no getting around that. Hell, a brief search even came up with mention of one of Rust's Dev's wanting to put a stop to the self made gamma night-vision and other gamma hacks.

Can Nothing be done about MetaGaming in Dayz?

Try it.. Raise your brightness and gamma in game, you'll see all the way ten miles out to the tree lines, every person on the roads will be easily visible, every zombie easily noticed moving, some points are harder to see such as small items, but the setting ups how much is visible drastically. Try it on your TV, you'll see nothing but bright BLACKNESS. Same with your graphics card. :3 Not remotely the same, you won't see the people miles out, you won't see anything really; not without a flash light. Unless my couple week break has drastically seen changes to the way gamma and brightness work in game - this still functions in a way it really shouldn't. So while I could be wrong, I doubt it.

Can Nothing be done about MetaGaming in Dayz?

Technically speaking you CAN you just won't. Because in truth you could just start compiling a list of third party VOIP programs and disable joining servers while they are on in the background, no doubt in my mind battle-eye already checks background processes to hunt for known hacking programs. Personally I think it'd be an awesome route to go, screw the backlash and strive for the immersing experience in full. Would cut it down significantly, but naturally never stop it.. my girlfriend plays in the same room, we look at each other's screens all the time :3 .. and could just use any one of the four computers to start up skype/vent/ect that aren't running DayZ .. still, to me it'd send a message you don't want it going on but rather want the ingame options used and are willing to make every effort possible to make that the primary means of communication. (Won't ever happen.. but I'd thumb up it just for the effort.:P) You can, but it won't do the same thing. Raising the brightness/gamma on your TV or Graphics Card won't do the same as raising it in the game, in the game it re-renders what is shown, eg, raise it and something that literally was NOT being rendered such as a desk in the back of the room - that was concealed in darkness - now is being rendered because of the new brightness/gamma setting making it visible: meanwhile on your TV or Graphics card, raising the setting just makes what was already in view (Which by default would only be what's in your flashlight's light, your hands, the flashlight itself and the grass no more than a foot ahead of you.) a unnatura highlight, but does nothing to help you see that person 5 feet away one step to the left of your flashlight. -- and lastly on the talk of 3PP in my opinion it's the same I've said in other threads so I won't go into detail. I'd like to see 3PP have line of sight, and if you do NOT have line of sight it creates a deep shade over what you cannot see so you KNOW you can't see anything in that particular area - including a player or zombie. When you come around the corner a little further, just like someone in 1PP would have to - you take the same risk of getting your head blown off trying to see who's there. I use both options, and I even hate the fact 3PP is such an obvious advantage over anyone playing in 1PP that I find myself playing on 3PP more just to stay on the same playing field and have to adjust my tactics knowing the sniper on that roof - or the person behind the door - can see me even though his character can't and isn't exposed at all.

The Public Hive- Am I the only person who likes it?

For what it's worth I don't hate you for the opinion, I gave mine and you gave yours. It -is- just a game and I couldn't care less in the end ... BUT ... while you think it's a stupid idea, I think it's one of the few ways to keep the game honorable and thriving. If the game reverts toward the Mod where everything is chaotic and not monitored - where people AREN'T being told what they are allowed to do to a decent extent, I know I won't be supporting it; and while that's my viewpoint I know I'm not alone. Just as I'm sure your not alone in your way of thinking about it. No real changing each other's minds on it, but having seen enough games crumble - I still will be hoping they go my route, or something similar enough to keep things reigned in - otherwise I don't believe DayZ will survive all that long - for myself - and for the long run. I'd much rather be spawning on the beach (or one of the controlled zones I've set up on the server when the feature is out) when I jump servers, and stop the ghosting and server hopping in the process than have it continue, regardless of what people 'want' - it ruins the integrity of doing it the right way, no less than a hacker just popping gear in (in my eyes) or being able to teleport behind you. It's harming the balance of the game in the process. In any case, nobody should hate anyone for an opinion; regardless of their viewpoint. If someone wanted the game to be turned into a pony simulator that's on them, but no reason to get fussy, not like it'd happen.

The Public Hive- Am I the only person who likes it?

My personal opinion, I hope they don't allow private hives in the least to be honest. When the update comes along that introduces base building and the other feature Dean mentioned -- controlled zones I believe; server hopping will cease to function, even ghosting, if done properly. Basically creating it so that if your logging off server A that's fine, log back into server A next and your right where you left off no differences made. Log off Server A and log into Server B - you have to pick from one of the controlled zones you or your buddies have given you access to; or be slotted with one of the many fresh spawn points (since by this time, they'll be safer; not just beach target practice.) but you'll retain all your stuff. In turn creating it so you can't jump to another server and just loot away, nor can you combat log and try to ghost behind a enemy position and log back in to use that advantage. Simple enough fix, all the perks of a public server, and none of the BS that comes with private hives which I just have a natural disdain for - partially from the reasons others have mentioned, not really desiring to 'pick a server' and then stick to it even when it's dead since my gaming hours vary wildly, sometimes 1-2pm .. sometimes 3-4am.. sometimes 8-9am .. who the hell knows, not good fun for me if it all slides private hive, I'll end up needing characters on a dozen servers and STILL have to hope they never get perma shut down. No thank you, the potential for the game-ruining mods and even more abusive admins.. all in all pass. In exchange for the generalized private server idea, I'd much rather see Modders be given access to the database and materials to create and yes - test mods privately on unlisted servers - but they have to be approved by internal admins at Bohemia before being launched into the main listing as part of 'secondary campaign' that can host any number of servers on it's own separate 'public hive' that still has to follow guidelines to keep the experience for players a good one; if it was going to be allowed at all. Never have to worry about picking a server that'll die out in a few weeks after you've gotten invested into your character and gear just to have it disappear through no fault of your own, don't have to deal with Admins that get more reign than they ever should be given under the claim it's a private hive with it's own weird rules since it's all still tightly controlled.. no chance of insane mods, no worrying about a handful of servers that decided they weren't going to update with the rest of the game for a few months and thus keeping your characters on lockdown if you update, or your updated characters on lockdown because you didn't, no chance of a single lone server owner who decides to change up the rules and style of his server without warning after you've been there ages into something you never would have been a part of. it's all around more controlled and a much more likely chance of staying a stable and streamlined system without private hives. Just my opinion, going to find a pillow and snooze now :P
  12. General answer, no. If I see them from afar I make the call to avoid, or if I'm feeling risky stalk. See what the person is up to, maybe hide outside the building they are in .. go on voice and shout, "YOUR SURROUNDED. PUT DOWN YOUR WEAPONS OR -YOU WILL - BE PUT DOWN!" .. you know, for dramatic effect :D Or you know, just calmly ask friendly. Whichever, and never put my weapon away - but I kind of hold that plan for anyone, if your a stranger, my weapon doesn't get put away; and you don't leave my sight unless it's to leave or I shoot. Already had one guy in a conversation for 15 minutes or so before he turned to shoot some zombies, my gun was put away 'last he saw', but soon as I saw him draw his to shoot them I brought it back out, but kept it lowered - he killed the zombies then promptly spun around and shot me once in the chest.. but in that same second, I unloaded half a clip of m4 rounds into him.. and then remembered - don't trust anyone. Still don't know why he thought trying to take me down was a grand idea, not like he needed any extra gear. Still, the answer's no. I don't KOS, if you catch me by surprise like we run into each other at a corner and I see a weapon out I'll probably mow you down; but not because of the mask. Just because I'm not risking it. Clothing means little, it's all about if you have your weapon stance. If your unarmed, I don't trust that your unarmed - could have a pistol, a sawed off, who knows; but.. So long as the weapon isn't in your hands, your not a threat 'so long' as I keep my eye on you and am ready to raise and shoot if I see you drawing something, if it's a can of beans odds are I'm turned toward you - aimed at your head and will have the patience 'not' to pull the trigger, but your life should flash before your eyes that's how close to death you were :| If we meet up and your weapons in your hands but not raised, and I never see it raise, same deal.. life flash before your eyes, but I may not pull the trigger if you put it away; because I know I can shoot faster than you can raise it. If your weapons up, your a dead man or I am. End of story.

    Anyone getting bored of Standalone?

100 hours in, in under a month and .. yes and no, it's alpha; I got more hours of this than tons of complete $60 pricetag games and had tons of fun on the way. It'll get better, add more content, and I'll be even more enthused, as it stands I've pretty much decided to take a month break or so, go wall running-mass murdering in Titanfall for some mindless fun and return renewed for something more complex, tactical and engaging than just a sheer adrenaline rush.

Poll: Are you happy with update news/management?

Other; Pretty simple really, would I like better management and changlogs of all the updates? Of course. But do I understand why not? In a way yes, keeping track of everything that's been added, tweaked, and removed during coding is a pain; especially in the transition they have now of being two studios; compiling everyone's work into a streamlined changelog would take time away from actually working on the game and making it better. Yet on the flip side of that coin I hope they have decent enough internal communication that someone doesn't work to fix something while another person thinks it's still broken and not being worked on and tries to fix the same thing. ;3 But fairly certain they at least have their team focused on specific projects and not overlapping. So short version, no I'd love better reporting but it's reasonable to let it pass and an unnecessary time sink for the dev team this early into the development. - The only exception is Experimental they could at LEAST suggest what needs focus testing; even if not a direct change log give testers some idea: "Head to x location and try x" / "Use x item in various situations" - on the regular servers it's no big deal; most people are just playing to enjoy the experience and if they find a undiscovered bug - great - but there isn't any specific thing to focus testing on.

    What a Ducking fickhead

No, KOS is the biggest dick move ever. I'd rather be betrayed a month into friendship than I had be shot by a random sniper every fifteen minutes. You experienced the ultimate survivor, I can't say bandit - because if that was the case he'd at least have just taken out your legs and robbed you blind before leaving you a splint 50 meters away. :P So your becoming worse than him, by most anyone's standards. Know you probably won't care, then again in time you may calm about the matter' and realize you just need to be more cautious - not trust anyone - but not become one of 'them' Just my opinion :D

    Spontaneously breaking leg

+1 Game coding is not a fixed thing that you can put a fixed time table on. Each coder is different, have their own way (in a lot of cases) of getting the code in and making it work, and at the end of the day the unexpected is bound to happen; ask any game developer. They hit brick walls on a daily basis trying to get features in and in a lot of cases something expected to be a simple hour job turns into a three day effort. Any game you see released today, if you talk to the dev team they'd ALL tell you of all these other features they had planned to have by release, and all these other features they'd WORKED on but had to be cut from the final release because of time-tables and unexpected issues along the way slowed them down from being able to get it done.

    Session Lost Every Server

Have you done the usual troubleshooting steps? Have you been able to play before this point but now can't? Any case best advice I can give on the fly is set exceptions to your firewall and AV regarding DayZ, run DayZ as admin, run your Av/Firewall in game mode, disable your Av/Firewall if that doesn't work, and uninstall your AV/Firewall as a last ditch effort since it's entirely possible it's blocking your connection to servers. On the other hand there were reports I saw at one point that certain firewalls routers* block connections and gave a means to fix it if all that fails; worth a look.

    Spontaneously breaking leg

While it's disheartening, I doubt that the dev's would say it's 'not' a priority. It's probably something they are constantly working midst all the other bugs they are constantly tracking and trying to fix. For one the fact it's random and to my knowledge impossible to replicate (Reliably replicate anyway, as I imagine one of the biggest factors to causing the sudden leg-break death is lag and rare combinations) probably makes figuring out exactly what part of the code has the flaw extremely difficult to narrow down, out of the likely thousands of lines of code just involving physics, collision and damage. If anyone wants it solved faster do the usual paid tester thing: If I do X my leg breaks 100% of the time. Report it. If I monitor the ping time and wait for a lag spike before doing Y my leg breaks 100% of the time and I die. Report it. If I do Y and X during lag 25% of the time after 20 attempts to replicate caused my character to vomit a grenade, a live grenade. I died, but I heard from some people north of my location my heart is on a flight path to the moon. If I do Z which is alot like X, nothing bad happens. But if I do Z and Y I break physics and the whole world turns to neon colored donuts.. the hell were guys coding? But truth be told I imagine they already have it fixed; unfortunately fixing it broke twenty other things and fixing those caused another hundred and seventy five much worse bugs; which are all still in the process of being fixed.
  20. AzrailCross

i need motivation to start playing again

Your motivation is - aside from the fun to be had in the RISK of losing all your stuff.. is to lose all your stuff knowing your going to get it all back again and be even better at NOT losing your stuff the next time around, so that when you lose your stuff the next time around, you get even better at NOT losing your stu... yeah I think you get the idea. No it's fine, really, horde that pixel stuff like a madman in a bunker somewhere where it's offering you no amount of fun or value while your offline. Go ahead! :D

BattleEye kick, then 290 second respawn...

Personally this worked for me, so best of luck hopefully fixes it for you. Run as Admin (as said above) Add exception in Firewall & Antivirus for DayZ & Battleye. Run Av/Firewall in game mode. Test. Disable Av/Firewall altogether. Test. Uninstall Av/Firewall (temporarily for the one game session before possibly ending up having to find a new one...) Test. - Sadly, I'm not joking. Adding exceptions did nothing for me, disabling did nothing, but game mode suddenly made everything run flawlessly. Other's have had to uninstall theirs altogether and magically the game decides it's your best friend.
  22. AzrailCross

    What are they?

Ahah! Further evidence to support my BOTH poll request :> Well, the request I never asked for until now anyway. They are demented people with a hunger that run around in a frantic state when non-infected are around and can be seen dormant and walking around otherwise, with some hint of humanity still captured inside.. but twisted, brutal, enraged and then those that only turned well after death; who's brain has lost all logic entirely and just shamble (or in the legless case, crawl) around in a continually decaying state when alarmed, and stand still when dormant. This is the new found truth of the infection, non-believers shall be shot on sight!
  23. AzrailCross

    What are they?

Go figure I radically edit the post in my half-dead state (braaains.... well more like.. must stay awake.. a while .. longer.. then.. can.. sleep.. at..last...sleeeep...) But anyway, as for my original thoughts on it; I should probably find the time sometime to look up the paper and see what all it says about it; just to get to bit more into the history of DayZ. But if that does turn out to be true I'll be a touch disappointed, I was kind of hoping for a mixture of living-dead just for kicks. :P Still interesting though.
  24. AzrailCross

    What are they?

Knowing almost nothing about the mod or origination of DayZ beyond recent dev videos I've watched; it just comes across that they are infected. They run, they don't appear decayed, but being alpha.. could just be something waiting to happen; the moment we start seeing a zombie with no legs crawling around - is when I'll lean toward undead (and that will be awesome) but honestly I'd be happier to find out it's both :P Some are runners that never died but lost the fight to infection and 'turned' so they die like anyone else, chop off a limb and they'll bleed out and their heart will stop - down they go! Stab the heart, same deal, or just do blunt hit to the head hard enough and it'll shut them down at least if not kill them. But 'the others' died and THEN the infection took over, and now only die to head shots; unfortunately they are also already decayed by the time the infection takes hold so they can't run, toss in some other little quirks and such, things will have gotten a lot more interesting.

    opinions on a streamer

Short answer, yes. Plain and simple. He's knowingly taking a item that through an exploit exists with the intent to use it to ruin another person's experience. Regardless of if the ammo is used to take out a bandit or a hero, or just some fresh spawn makes no difference nor does the excuse of 'if he'd had an unexploited clip it'd have been the same outcome' it's still sinking to the same level as the original exploiter - which on exploits of this high of a magnitude is the same dirt-bag low point as a full fledged hacker. He's no better than someone who finds a glitch that crashes an entire server for hours and then goes around recreating it for laughs on other servers.
