I wouldn't recommend running Day Z for a long time on a macbook. They run real hott and tend to burn out if you do some long continuous gaming on it. On the other hand to test out day z i bootcamped windows 8 on my 2011 mac mini core i5 hd4300 and it ran okay on low settings with no shadows.

So far haven't had to use one so I don't know.. Don't plan on having a favorite weapon against humans! Now for zombies it's the casual Fire Axe.
