i have windows 8 on my pc can i still play with dayz before i buy it because i dont want to waste £20

I have a Toshiba Satellite C850 - 1DD 500gb memory and 4gb ram rinning windows 8 i was wondering if i would be able to run dayz as all of my friends have it and they don't play any other game i am in the process of saving for a gaming pc and i want to get to play with my friends. if anyone knows if i could run this mod pack can you please tell me... thanks :)
