Sniping at and killing a terrorist at 800 meters in real life is a real accomplishment, sniping and killing a fresh spawn on the coast in DayZ isn't. Besides, more than likely, you are actually doing them a favor and getting them a better spawn point than you had. Fuck that, let 'em suffer

There's nothing down there so I don't go there either. I have been known to throw chem lights or flares down them at night. A flare really makes them look pretty from topside.

I am happy to report no issues, met Winters tonite, he knocked me out and scolded me for running around in the open. Meh, I didn't really have any good shit anyway and there were only two of us on the server, what are the odds?? But, ok, message received. Have some nice stuff, even found a UH1N crash, got some magazines a duel and a 40 rnder but no M4 or Aug, will trade those for four empty FNX mags and 30 rounds of .45 loose at the meet and greet, they have no ammo I gave that away. I could see the smoke from the crash site a good Kilometer away btw. Gonna head for some favorite hide sites, do some hunting, grill some meat, maybe look for a Christmas Tree to loot some teddy bears from.

I was actually doing ok until I was murderered on the outskirts of electro last night. Two guys, both armed. I got hit from behind and came out fighting with a fire axe. Dudes were like "hey buddy". I said nothing, just went down swinging since they hit me first. I am not much interested in talk after that shit. I am not gonna stand there and be a target. I know I got one hit, at least on a dude in a blue paramedic jacket and crash helmet. Hope the cunt died, didn't see him after that but his pal got me. After that the server went down for maintenance.... Kill or die trying. Heart of fucking darkness, man, never get off the fucking boat.

yeah, it was pretty crazy. I'll log in again tomorrow and see what's what. I tried a couple other servers today and didn't have those issues. One was in the UK, much further away, no issues other than super low FPS.

Hey guys, I don't know what server provider you have for FOG 2, when I do get back into running a server it won't be with whoever you guys have. Lots of issues with these guys, random deaths and random server restarts to name two. I had a random death attempting to vault a fence and then was kicked because BE was not responding. Crazy, never had a vaulting fence death before. So, now it is even stranger. I log back in and I am not dead, I am about 20 meters back from the fence I tried to vault and I am fine. I enter a house, find a dry bag I like better than the one I have and move gear from one to the other, but I seem to get that "can't do nothing" bug even though I am not frozen. I log out, log back in, make the switch and I am on the road again. I get to the warehouse on the ocean side of Balota and suddenly break my legs stepping from the grass onto the concrete pad. I crawl over and get some sticks and notice my bag and my rifle are gone. I crawl back to the edge of the dock and my stuff in underwater just off shore, how the hell did it get out there??. I crawl out there, the sticks in my ruined pants pocket, grab the bag and my rifle, crawl back out of the water and BREAK MY LEGS AGAIN, that ruins my sticks, jeez wtf?. Luckily I had some sticks in my bag with my first aid kit.

Yep, I call this "the naked and afraid in Vybor spawn". Doesn't happen to me very often but when it does I head straight for the Vybor Base, where, usually, I am promptly killed by campers. For the record, happened to me this morning, wasn't killed at Vybor but was ambushed at Zelengorsk, luckily I had stashed the AK 74 I had found at Vybor before the guy killed me (had no magazine for it so why give someone a free AK74?)

I try to leave notes that took place as the situation was coming apart, a sort of diary, asking a specific person to meet at certain location, then at that location I'll leave another note about how the situation has gone to shit and how I had to move to another location. I will sometimes include a rant about WHO or the CDC lying about the severity of the situation. I wish there were public boards, in game, where we could post notes asking have you seen this or that person, warnings about where the disease is currently at it's worst, rumors about government crackdowns, massacres and checkpoints etc., etc. And, of course, always some more sinister shit about Green Mountain. Would be nice to have the ability to set up impromptu memorials, now that we have teddy bears in game that would be a perfect use for them...

If you think you are a sniper and you don't have a spotter, then you are just a shithead. Snipers, real snipers, work most effectively in teams.

Persistant servers are your issue here. On non persistant servers loot resets as you remember it, on the persistant servers this is not the case. If you are on the coast, on a persistant server move inland as quickly as possible. You'll have to survive on berries and apples until then. Hopping really will do you more harm than good.

So, I am on a particular private shard that shall remain moist, err nameless and it is tough getting a character going, in spite of picking berries and apples I just can't seem to keep any characters from starving to death. There aren't many canned items around in any sort of abundance and the only thing I can find to open the cans I do find are the brass knuckles, which if you have tried that you know how much food you spill, every drop counts at this point, spilling food is not an option (which reminds me DEVS, how about the 5 second rule???). Getting off the coast is becoming a serious bitch. Finally, I am a few kilometers off the coast and inland, this is try number six. I find a worn can opener in a house that has some boots and some jeans, but that's about it, no cans. At this point I am orange hungry but I am in the back woods and try my luck with some berry bushes I find near a feeding station. Yes, 8, count them 8 red berries, I am cooking with gas here, now to find water but that is abundant out here where I am, hydration isn't the issue. I make it up the trail to a small village at the head of Three Valleys, color vision is fading and stomach is grumbling but it is here that I begin to find stuff that will get me energized, hydrated and healthy. Thankfully I still have the can opener and can use canned goods to maximum benefit. Life is tough on DayZ persistent private shards, but it is tougher if you don't have a can opener...

Yeah, I just couldn't find any hacksaws, axes, crowbars or screwdrivers, nothing sharp at all, not even a hoe. At least not until I had already found the can opener. Yep, and I should have mentioned that I had forgotten all about that. I was lugging around netting and burlap sacks for a long way AND I had a stone knife all along that I could have both open cans with and cut the sacks into strips!! I got tunnel visioned.

Yep, folks have a hard enough time hitting a human sized target at 300 meters with an M4 equipped with an ACOG in real life let alone with a bow at 250 meters.

As I have stated before and will state again, there can be no "combat logging" without a previous mutual exchange of words, gestures or bullets between two or more players. As far as killing a player in logout, just another form of KoS as far as I can tell.

I see what you are saying but I believe we are broadening the definition to pretty much include anyone who just logs out. I am completely against that. We only know one side of the story, guy could have CTD'd, maybe his ping was too high and the server booted him or his power went out and along with it his internet (happened to me just yesterday, came back on in about 30 minutes and when I got back in I was way further down the road but otherwise ok). I have heard this too and I like the feature, just like I am not so opposed to the random sounds. Homo sapiens are social animals, so the more we are secluded from others and the more we KoS. maybe, the more we should hear these random sounds and cry and laugh hysterically, Kuru or not. What got me was bells, I heard the bells in the clock tower in Chernogorsk tolling at midnight. If I had heard the laugh too, oh man, I would have logged out IMMEDIATELY and gone to bed and put my head under the covers.... I'd like random payphones to just start ringing too, just like they do in the film The Omega Man.

. So how do you know he even knew you were there? Combat logging is when they start a fight and try to log when they figure they are loosing. Were shots or words exchanged? If not then you just happened on some guy logging out.

The people who claim being banned for no reason were banned for good reasons. Believe it, those guys just come here to cry because they got caught. This is a tough game to have social interactions in, microphone or not, bandit or not. Bandits, true bandits, will not bother fresh spawns on the coast, they don't have anything to make it worthwhile. You will be lied to about intentions, get used to that. If I see a fully geared character on the coast they are very likely up to no good and should be avoided at all costs. You're gonna hear people say, "I'm friendly" or "I don't have a weapon out" followed by many other lies designed to put you at ease until you will get the black "you are dead" screen because they weren't, happens all the time.

Hanging around where your tent is and building a fire there is a great way to let the whole frigging world know where you are. I use the tent as a storage site and nothing more, never as a hide site. That's just asking for it. I'd like a small entrenching tool and the ability to dig in, that's about it. Of course boarding up houses would be great, however, as such they are a great temporary base but these tend to attract the unwanted attention of Bandits and KoSers. In addition, if we are not gonna have "sleepers" that can be killed while the owner is off line what's the point of all this base building? You're just protecting a bunch of stuff that you can just go find pretty easily anyway.
