Why is Bohema so bad when it comes to AMD?

Turn your texture filtering and detail to high.
  2. Maybe there could be an item in the game, a mirror or something, that lets you enter traditional 3rd person and peek around/over things. It could be complete with animation of character holding the mirror out of whatever barrier hes behind, giving others a chance to spot his hand and mirror peeking around over something. Seems realistic and very survivalish.

    Performance issues...

As we all know and has been said, the game is still alpha so things like this can be expected. I know people keep hearing this over and over but its pretty much the truth, as time passes things will hopefully be resolved. I always have a little laugh to myself when I see these posts, because the computer I play dayz on is far worse than yours, doesn't even meet minimum requirements, is a decade old HP that runs on Windows XP and I generally get around the same fps as your minimum. Regardless, there are a few things you can do. 1) Turn texture filtering and texture detail on HIGH. This may or may not work for you given your system with the CPU and all, what this does is use your GPU instead of CPU for some things and may significantly improve fps. 2) Unpark your cpu cores if you haven't already, assuming there are any that are and you are running windows 7. (Google it) 3) Turn off bloom, motion blur, postfx. (Motion blur sucks for streaming and general gameplay anyways, it hurts my face) 4) In your DayZ.cfg GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1; GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=1; 5) In your User.DayZProfile sceneComplexity=25000; (this is my setting for max performance, play with this and find whats best for you) shadowZDistance=50; (same) viewDistance=1200; (same) preferredObjectViewDistance=1200; (same) The ones above in #5 may decrease your quality, so you might not want to set them too low so its noticeable. Also, I have read you can play with this one for performance: terrainGrid=50; (acceptable values are 50, 25, 12.5, 6.25, 3.125) Though I have no idea what it actually does and haven't noticed any significant performance increase from it unless I did something wrong. If none of this works, do some intense googling for dayz performance guides, common fps problems and whatnot, alpha game problems aren't usually something you can fix simply. Either way, 30-60fps is well within playable, just be happy because some people can't even play the game at all no matter their rig. Or you could just not stream the game.

What are your thoughts on the FNX 45?

I found a red dot sight and a supressor and tried using it to clear zeds quietly but it still draws aggro... and its still loud. Seems like a bit of difference because when I use the magnum to clear em it draws an army to me, but with the supressed .45 only 2 or 3 came, maybe that was just because of where I was at though.

Can you trust a stranger with a loaded gun?

No, in fact I don't trust anyone enough to even trade or cooperate. Not that I'm a bandit, I just avoid other players until I get geared enough to go to one of the cities and find a nice gunfight to jump in. In fact, I've got an ammo box full of 5.56, an M4, a .357 with 2 speedloaders and a sweet ass FNX with a red dot sight and a pistol supressor (unfortunately I haven't found a mag for it though), so I might just have to make my way to the south coast now.

    Loot on zombies?

Maybe they could drop zombie guts you could apply on yourself to stop aggro for a bit, walking dead style.

I dont understand why there is no AUTO RUN KEY!!!

Yes, this ^ There are some long walks in this game.

    Press Vest

I've only found two. First one was in some kind of industrial/factory building if I can remember right, then I actually found another in a police station while I still had the first one on.

    2225 ammo

Yea, that seems like some sort of hack or something, but you can actually fit 600 rounds in that box due to a glitch(?) in the game when you empty double mags. Just fill up a double mag, empty it, then put the groups of 60 bullets in all of the slots. I don't think thats really cheating so much as it seems like they haven't implemented double mags correctly yet, when you get done firing the first 30 your guy should have to switch clipped mags around to continue firing. Then again, it works the same way with the 40 bullet mags as well so who knows.

how long does dropped gear stay in place?

I can see that being abused by trolls for some massive lag.

    Weapons

Not sure if I'm talking about the same thing as above, but one of the row apartment buildings seems to have good gun spawns as well as other good loot, just today I found an SKS and .22 rifle in the same building. It's the dark colored, 2 story building that has a banister going up around the steps that you can't see through, it has some sort of storage room in it connected to a bending hallway. It's the building in this video: These seem to be more rare compared to the other types of similar apartment buildings so I guess they decided this to be the good loot one.

    Portable gas stove

I saw a bunch of them today in grocery stores and industrial buildings.

    What about a belt holster?

Anyone ever played jagged alliance 2? A lot of good ideas could be gleaned from that game regarding this, it had a pretty in depth system of combat gear for carrying all sorts of different stuff. Instead of just having inventory slots for everything, there were a few general inventory slots here and there and then you could only put certain things in stuff that it designed to carry. Would be cool if there was a backpack in dayz that maybe didn't have as big of a general inventory capacity as the others, but had a separate slot so you could sling another rifle across your back or something, trading some inventory slots for a rifle carrier. You know, instead of having to drop your second rifle every time you want to drink a soda. Dayz is already kind of going down that road with medical bags, ammo boxes and whatnot. Be interesting to see what they come up with in the end.

    profile/config variables

Despite what is mostly being said so far in this thread, there is quite a few things you can change in that config (<user>.DayZProfile) to get more fps. Try changing these down near the bottom: sceneComplexity=150000; shadowZDistance=100; viewDistance=1400; preferredObjectViewDistance=1000; terrainGrid=6.125; This is what I have them set at for a low end computer so you may be able to adjust these much higher, I believe the "terrainGrid" option only accepts certain values so you can't just put anything there, see this thread or just don't change that one at all: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=216291078 It may or may not cause instability with the game(the terrainGrid one), but if it doesn't then there you go. This is the most unhelpful, arrogant forum I've ever seen as far as asking people about squeezing fps out of a game, so don't worry about it. It would be nice if they gave us an option to shift some of the dependance on the gpu and maybe not render every single thing in a 50 mile radius visible or not (minecraft style). This game could be much MUCH less demanding for what it is, but its alpha so I guess we'll see what happens. This thread has pretty much everything I said here and more: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/154330-possible-fps-enhancer/

Can I Run DayZ Retail (POST HERE)

Despite what people like deebz are saying, I just bought the game being well under minimum reqs for it and its definately playable given the right settings and a little cfg editing if you are using windows xp. It won't be perfect and maybe a little laggy, but its definately playable as far as I'm concerned. For record, this is my old, low end system: Windows XP 2.0ghz AMD Athlon dual core 1gb gfx card 2gb RAM Yes, it is playable... even getting spawned into eleckro. Like I said, its not beautiful but it works, in fact it was even faster than I thought it would be. This is probably about the bare minimum for "making it work", I would imagine someone with even a slightly better system could run at pretty decent fps turning all the settings down and whatnot. Dayz.cfg language="English"; adapter=-1; 3D_Performance=100000; Resolution_Bpp=32; Windowed=0; Resolution_W=1024; Resolution_H=768; winX=16; winY=32; winW=800; winH=600; winDefW=800; winDefH=600; refresh=75; Render_W=1024; Render_H=768; FSAA=0; postFX=0; GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1; GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=1; HDRPrecision=8; lastDeviceId=""; localVRAM=1073741824; nonlocalVRAM=123076608; vsync=0; ssaoEnabled=0; AToC=0; SWLayersCount=0; PipQuality=0; PPAA=0; You.Dayzprofile TexQuality=1; TexMemory=3; sceneComplexity=150000; shadowZDistance=100; viewDistance=1400; preferredObjectViewDistance=1000; terrainGrid=6.125; (the above is not the complete config, just a cutout of what I changed) You're going to have to start the game once, go into options, don't change anything or change something unrelated to gfx options (mouse or something), exit options, then quit the game again in order to get it to generate a full config file, otherwise winxp users will get the device fail error. I'll experiment because I'm sure there are a few other settings around I could change to choke some fps out of this. Don't expect it to look good, but if your sole purpose is only to get into the game world this will do it. For some reason I am unable to set my terrain detail to high (which uses the gpu not the cpu from what ive heard), unless this has recently been changed. An option to set this independant from the terrain detail would be nice but thats doubtful. Why did I do this? Because I felt like it.

So much could be said about this small bit here.

Can I Run DayZ Retail (POST HERE)

Hmm, thanks for the response. I plan on getting a new machine sometime anyways so I'll probably just go ahead and buy dayz and try it out, if it doesn't run well and isn't playable then I suppose I'll have it for later. I'm assuming I can buy/download the game once and then be able to download it again later if I want?

Operation "Sanctuary" safe zone calling all heroes (Event Ended)

Your safe zone doesn't seem very safe with such a list of rules all of which the penalty is death, example: Doesn't seem that much different than normal.

Can I Run DayZ Retail (POST HERE)

So assuming all the settings, tweaks and the machine itself are optimized for performance, is this playable on an AMD Athlon 2.0GHz dual core? "Playable" meaning at or above 15-20 fps. I'm asking because I've ran plenty of games that, according to the minimum requirements, shouldn't have been playable, but they were very much so. I had absolutely no problems running arma 2 and I have a lifetime of experience running and playing high-end games on computers that they weren't meant for. Has anyone had any experience trying this with a similar CPU? Gfx mem isn't so much an issue as I've frankensteined a decent card to my machine. Yes I know I am crazy... but if it CAN possibly work, I can do it.
