I've ran into a handful of bugs like this: the splint thing, can't finish drinking canteen/bottle and a similar one where applying a saline bag would not finish. A friend told me to press F11 the instant before I started trying to apply the saline IV, it sounds sketchy and I doubted this at first I but did it and it worked. I have tried to see if this works with anything else yet. About the splints though, I always pick up every single morphine injector (I end up handing them out to people) I find and try to always have at least one extra for myself no matter what, if I can't then I craft a spare splint as soon as its possible. Crafting splints when you need them is unreliable because of the bug.

It doesn't seem like its been mentioned yet and I know this topic is several weeks old, but if you immediately log out and then try again after a little bit you will have your old character back. This has happened to me several times and seems to be server specific, I have favorited servers that I play on that never have this problem.

It does seem a tad excessive for the small inclines at least, but I don't think you're supposed to be able to.

I suppose, if you want to join one that never has anybody on it. There are enough lonely, non-whitelisted private servers out there that fulfill that demographic and they don't really attract hackers either, in fact I have a favorites list full of them. I just haven't found one I like yet, but that might be because I simply haven't looked hard enough. If I found one I really liked I might even donate to them.

I am not a kid or a hacker, but the criterion for being whitelisted on some servers/server groups is just offputting. You could write the most amazing story about your character and mention every rule but one, off the wall, small thing that pretty much everyone on the server ignores anyways and be refused. Streamers seem to just be whitelisted by default as far as I can tell, so maybe make some youtube videos and you're in. Another thing on the RP servers is the text rp, I can't stand trying to interact (rp anyways) with anyone using text and most of the populated ones I've seen it is against the rules to simply walk away from player interaction, forcing me to sit there and deal with something I find to be more aggravating than entertaining. I guess its more or less uncommon, but at some point you will have to deal with this because some males like to roleplay females and don't want to sound like Dr. Girlfriend. Sometimes I just simply don't feel like interacting with people as well, but RPing based solely on a characters actions without communicating is against the rules. Kill on sight. While I respect people's opinions and desire not to be immediately killed a few minutes after spawn, I do believe there is a place for it in a chaotic, post apoc world. I think that having strict rules of engagement and what amounts to the LOAC in an environment like DayZ isn't really 'authentic', I guess you could say, to the game. These things turn the game into a sort of chatroom with guns type environment. I just think the rules on these servers are too strict so they can pretty much find a reason to ban you if they need/want to, many are hypocritical to the realistic sort of immersion that roleplaying is meant to bring as well. I would like to join a good normal, non-rp whitelisted server, but I just haven't had the time or motivation to put forth the effort for something that I would be automatically refused anyways. I just feel like the whole thing is sort of a popularity contest, that and the sense of arrogance some of these people have leaves a bad taste in my mouth. If you do want to be whitelisted somewhere though, a good tip might be to browse their forums beforehand and look at the rules in detail, read some posts both from people explaining how to be whitelisted as well as the ones posting about how and why they were refused.

Not going to disagree, but that makes a significant portion of DayZ players psychos as well. You can call fox news and I'm sure they will side with you as well, then put out another piece that slams video game violence because aparently I'm a pink dress serial killer IRL. But yea, it was HILARIOUS!

Me and a friend took off our pants, put on a pink dress and kos/handcuffed/tortured everything that moved in berezino. Yea, critisize me, but after sneaking around and not seeing anything for hours only to be killed by a hacker we needed some entertainment.

Because nothing screams kos and handcuff/torture like wellies and a pink dress.

Well, I take umbrage to the fact that you like to underline everything on an internet forum in an attempt to patronize everyone you talk to. And you need to consider, in the context of this game, what it would be like for a common person in czech/russia or where ever instead of assuming that everyone in the world is a wilderness survival teacher/student/guru/expert, apparently like you are and the rest of the internet that knows how to pull up a youtube video or google something. Unless a person is an expert such as yourself (and everyone else on the internet), starting a fire with a few pieces of wood is not easy. I know this, because I don't claim to be an expert on it and its difficult. I work with wood, I am a carpenter by trade, you know what? still difficult. And if you really use the quote "Work harder, not smarter" I really feel sorry for your students, or anyone you deal with on a daily basis. That was sarcasm, the actual quote is the reverse. It's really a moot point anyways, since this game isn't a bear grylls/whyherro/mcguyver guide to using sticks for creating everything you need in life. Its a zombie apocalypse survival game, the survivors aren't survivors because they know how to start a fire without matches... they are survivors because they're immune to the zed infection. I feel like in your attempt to prove how adept you are at linking youtube videos and rubbing sticks together, you forgot just what game we're talking about here.

Well for the rest of us morons who don't rub wood soaked in water together and make fire its hard. Obviously if you're somewhere where there is gloves, there is probalbly matches nearby. Hence... matches. Work harder not smarter eh?

If they are gravity fed like most farm tanks then yea it wouldn't require anything, not even a hand pump. I could see it requiring a lockpick though. I've never heard of anyone who prefers manually pumping fuel over having a gravity fed tank, but I've never been to a third world country. Though this technology has been around since the roman empire (for water obviously, the use of oil did exist then however) so even third world countries have it.

Some way to make a small improvised explosive out of gas canisters: Canister + Screwdriver = Improvised explosive that ignites when fired at for a few minutes. Canister + Matchbook = Improvised explosive that detonates when thrown, but is unreliable. Improvised exlposive + rope/duct tape or something = Door trap. Stick + stick = Ignites a fire, but is unreliable and takes a while. Cannot be done while damp/wet/soaked/raining. Stick + log = same. More objects to make splints with: Using a hacksaw on various objects (or just using the base item) to make a metal/wooden rod such as: Baseball bat, batons, hockey stick, sawed off shotgun/mosin barrels, pickaxes, hoes, pitchforks, etc. Then these could be combined with: Rope, metal wire, rags, etc. Courier bag/hide/clothing + rope = improvised pistol sling. The stuff I mentioned about gasoline here: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/219142-some-annoyances-i-hope-get-fixed/ Duct tape + flashlight: Improvised weapon flashlight for long barreled weapons like the Iz shotgun. Using canteens and water bottles like tiny jerry cans. (Also makes a nice new instrument for torture) Using long handled objects like pickaxes to make a doorjam. Using duct tape/rope/metal wire like handcuffs (is this already possible?) Gas canister + something like a tube + duct tape + matchbook = potato cannon. :) Using rope to safely rappel down from heights, or tie it off to something and being able to climb down/up. Water bottle + duct tape = Crappy improvised silencer. (No matter if it doesn't really work IRL or not, still would be cool only if it works once) Shotgun or rifle + rope/wire = Gun Door trap. Shotgun shells + water bottle = Gunpowder bottle + Matchbook = Gunpowder Bottle Door trap. Gunpowder Bottle Door trap + Long handled melee weapon = A very dangerous (for both parties) one shot melee weapon. Using a partially buried garden hoe as a humiliating trap that doesn't really do any damage. lol. Alcohol tincture + rope = Fuse, you can imagine the rest the recipe would be combined with. Molotov Cocktails, though I'm assuming this was going to be added anyways. Raincoats + knife = A poncho that fits in the assault vest slot. An in-game butane lighter. Or a Zippo! Being able to cut up clothes/hides or something and wrap them around you for warmth. Camelbaks! Clothing + knife = Cloth strips Cloth strips + Sewing kit = Blanket wrap (or something) which could also be used to wrap around you for warmth. Blanket/hide + stick/pitchfork, etc = Improvised tent. Douse rags with water and use them to cool off your character. Pouring water bottles on yourself to cool off your character. Wasteful, but works in a pinch. Boiling/heating water to disinfect food or warm up your dude. Drinking/Eating while prone without having to unequip your weapon. Dissassemble weapon cleaning kit = Alcohol tincture and improvised lockpick. Alcohol tincture + rag/cloth strips = Molotov It's a longshot, but being able to start structure fires on wooden buildings and such! Dissassemble sewing kit = improvised lockpick. (maybe thread as well if its ever added) Screwdriver could also be used as an improvised lockpick. Hammer + Log (or wooden planks) = Barricade door. Hammer + clothing/hide/etc = Window blind. Jogging/Athletic shoes allow you to sprint for longer without getting hungry/thirsty. And much more!

Should be the case with jerry cans as well, but with no electricity you shouldn't be able to get gas directly from the pump. To be realistic, I guess you would need a hose, and some kind of hand or battery powered pump and get it from the tank in the ground and not the actual pump interface. If they ever add gasoline into unusable vehicles alongside the road or whatever, you could get gas from them with just a hose, but you would have to put it into a jerry can and not the actual vehicle you want to drive because of the height difference. Though I suppose you could siphon gas out of a large truck and into a small car or something with no problem, assuming they don't add diesel, JP9 and other fuel types to the game... Inspect: Your character says "This vehicle has very little gas in it, it has a reddish tint and smells bad." for diesel or something like that. Bonus points if siphoning gas has a chance to make your character sick or give a painkiller effect.

It really isn't that easy, at least it never was for me. Depending on the conditions of the environment it may take you a long while, if its even possible at all. Then depending on how caliced your hands are and the difficulty of it that day, you might not even be able to do much more with them for a few days afterward. If making a fire this way was as simple as you (and youtube) imply, nobody would bother to pack matches into any survival/outdoors kit.

I picked "fell" because embarassingly that is how I last died, but I usually die to crashes/no message recieved while my character stands there and lets zombies eat his face.

I always seem to see multiple grazing animals near orchards, I don't know if this is just coincidence or if they actually made more spawn points there.

You could make a game called "Pinkie Pies Popcorn Party" and players would find a way to mod in guns and create military organizations in it.

It's been happening to me since the beginning, the constant "no message received" that never ends, its not a server restart because it happens ONLY to me at the time it happens. I've tried reinstalling the game, battleye, opening all the ports that I could find related to either, nothing works. It really pisses me off that this hasn't been fixed or at least there isn't some detailed official info somewhere on what causes it and how to fix it. Out of all my character deaths recently, the vast majority of them were caused by this when I was being attacked by zombies or players and it happened, leaving my character just standing there like a dumbass while a lone zombie nom noms on my face. I've only died "naturally" probably a handful of times or so, the rest were log back in as a new spawn or immediately bleeding to death with fractures and all that goodness.

I had a pristine compass that somehow got E and W reversed after it worked correctly for a while, since then I can never trust compasses and I don't even pick them up anymore. As for navigating, there are many things you can use like power lines, you can follow the large power lines from berezino to get to dubrovko and finally stary sober pretty easily. Also, if you loot the small towns as opposed to just bypassing them it will only take you one time to remember it the next time you come across it, that way you will immediately know where you are when you see one. When you spawn and walk towards inland, if you come to the railroad tracks first you are somewhere west of elektro, if you come to the road first you are east of elektro or on the eastern coast somewhere, if you see the large industrial silos you are somewhere south of berezino. Once you get inland, green mountain is of course a good marker to determine where you are at/headed.

According to lore, I think survivors in DayZ are supposed to be the people who are immune to zombification, unless you are talking about brain flu or whatever. As far as the rest goes, consider this: Lets say we have the BEST PvP player in the game and he spots you, maybe hes a recent spawn and just now found a gun or maybe not, but he wants to kill you. Why should he not shoot you because you can't see him? That's insane.

Steam community integration (Achievements, Steamworks modding, Bugs, Problems, Annoying messages, etc) No srs thats great about modding though.
