Get rid of inventory "tetris", its busy work and limiting.
chickenmcfuggits replied to franzuu's topic in Suggestions
Oh god no, just... no. I, for one, would like to keep the current system and have the game play that russian tetris theme song when the inventory is opened. Also, Jagged Alliance 2 unofficial patch = best inventory tetris ever. Much fun. -

Isn't Chernarus a fictional sovereign nation though, they don't necissarily have to have Soviet or Russian laws or statistics. According to lore they split off when the USSR fell, I guess making it even more likely they would have different laws. Compounding that even more, small nations that are eclipsed by larger ones can tend to be on the militaristic or rebellious side, either way everybody got lots of guns. Also, some of the highest firearm per capita countries in the world appear to be in the vicinity of where Chernarus would be. -
Realistic weapon progression/spawn locations regarding the disaster
chickenmcfuggits replied to chickenmcfuggits's topic in General Discussion
If you go to the izurvive map and filter all of the loot indicators except "Various Military" (These are the military tent loot spawns) at the bottom, you can see they are all pretty much in one place with exception to a few here and there. DayZRP lore is pretty interesting because according to it the zombie infection actually started in Myshkino and that tent base was erected as either a cause or an effect of the zombie plague, though it doesn't specific which I don't think. Regardless of where it started, I can imagine temporary bases, fortifications and tent cities being erected as the zombies spread throughout Chernarus overtaking the defenses there and forcing the military to move back to a new defensive position. As the war raged on and areas were lost some equipment and temporary bases would be left behind to be discovered by players after Chernarus was lost and the game as we know it begins. While actual military bases should of course have the lions share of military grade gear, it seems like it would spice up the game some to have sparse leftover military gear spread out in some of these places with maybe some small military tent areas area and some destroyed or functional military vehicles (when they add them). I've seen a bunch of threads on here and reddit about players complaining about the lack of AKM/SKS ammo almost everywhere but these tents, so they could be a valuable stash of certain weapon/ammo/gear types that aren't availible anywhere else, especially NATO gear in places where temporary nato bases might be. I could see NATO forces coming from a carrier somewhere in the black sea and setting up operating points around major ports or coastal airfields. You could also expect lots of badly damaged gear considering it was the scene of a battle against the zeds, maybe even some defensive or explosive equipment like mines and grenades that were used for the battle. Dead bodies and walking up onto the scene of a massacre would be cool, but I think I read somewhere that the devs didn't want to spawn already dead bodies for performance reasons. However, since these areas would contain valuable loot and were the scene of a battle its stands to reason that they would be occupied by a relatively large number of zeds then say a little town like Mcta or somewhere. Having a horde of zeds around the area would help offset the ability of the players to just stroll up and be well geared right off the bat without flying in the face of realism, and after players drop all the zeds it would look like a battlefield anyways. I like the idea of small temp bases being random too, seems like that would add a lot to "replayability", if thats the right word for this game. Maybe the temporary NATO bases could even be randomly spawned if they wanted to stick with the randomness of finding NATO gear like it is with heli crashes. Yet another idea for including more NATO loot spawns into the map could be docked NATO warships or relief ships of some kind to show that the world was desperately trying to stop the zombie plague from spreading, maybe some of them could even be keeled over or even fully capsized making it somewhat dangerous, or even impossible, for players to enter all the way into the ship. I don't know if that would be too much to ask from the graphics devs or not though. -

chickenmcfuggits replied to Avant-Garde's topic in General Discussion
While melee does need some work, I don't think making firearms rare would be any kind of a solution. I have a feeling that in the context of DayZ this would mean 50% of the server pop running along the coast looking to hit someone with a splitting axe until they got bored and just quit playing. You shouldn't get a gun when you walk into any old house, but it should be reasonable enough that once you take care of the basics and head to the right places nearby you would have a good chance of arming yourself, even if its one of the lesser effective firearms in the game. Obviously, higher forms of badassery (incl melee) should be harder to acquire, with exceptions being places where these things rightfully belong, such as military bases. Speaking of power progression and military bases, it would be interesting to see when they add more military weapons/vehicles to the game if they might add areas inside civilian areas where, say... battles were previously fought against the zombie uprising and there are combat vehicles and weapon spawns, as well as destroyed military equipment strewn about with the possibility of there being some, or none at all, working weapons/vehicles. If we think about what happened just as society collapsed in Chernarus and all the battles being fought, military tech would be spread around the country not only at military bases, but at chokepoints and civilian centers as well. I could imagine the stary/novy area might be one such chokepoint with its wide open and distant view as well as a sort of center for the civilian population, given the apocalypse was an infection you could also expect significant military presence near every major and even minor hospital, not only to handle zeds but for keeping an ever growing frantic civilian population at bay as well. Every major city and port could be expected to have some sort of military presence, even if its just remnants of a mobile unit; perhaps some of these would be NATO units called in to help as the disaster progressed, with the possibility of NATO loot spawning that currently only spawns on heli crashes, I mean if they are bringing in helicopters and armed teams they should have a base of ops at least somewhere in the country right? Currently the vast majority of high tier military equipment and presence seems to be at the military installations, as if the Chernarun government just didn't give a shit about anything when the zombies were rolling through their cities. They could even use highly contested areas like elektro and throw in some battered military equipment there from a battle lost to the zeds to spur on players to fight for these areas even more, or try to spread the points of interest out a little more to naturally spread out players and make a small amount of higher tier gear availible to players who go to these areas. Sorry I got a little off topic, but my brain started spontaneously working. -
on a full server without any skiddies, if such a thing exists. The few times I have managed to play in high pop servers/areas and not have any hackers interfere have been the best times I've had on DayZ, regardless of the outcome.

New full private server, new spawn, a zambie immediately attacks and causes some bleeding. While I'm punching out the zambie a wild squealer bambi appears (he must have really needed that extra flashlight) and attacks me while shouting nonsense, so I train the almost dead zambie on him and he runs away a short distance. I finish up the zambie and see the squealer coming back in for round two. Still bleeding, I run inland to town a short distance hoping he will just lose interest... nope, this is DayZ. I do a mid-sprint about face and engage in a cq fistfight with the squealer, I'm weaving side to side looking for that headshot and just after he shouts "you might as well just let me kill you"... I land a very satisfying knockout blow on him. With a full monotone screen I run into a shed nearby to bandage and while I'm doing so... oh look, theres a sledgehammer. As I finish bandaging and grab my trusty maul I 3pp look around the edge of the shed to see the sqealer waking up, still screaming nonsense at an unseen me, with a zambie attacking him. The squealer begins attempting to punch out the zambie, I run up behind the squealer while hes fighting the zambie, he turns around just as I approach him. I one shot his face with sledgehammer while wondering if the devs just implemented karma, then dispatch the zed. If there was one zambie I ever wished I could let live it was this one... but times are tough. Immediately after that I head just inland away from the coast for food, water and healing. I find no food, little water, and a CR75 magazine. I duck into a nearby house trying to find some food as I'm whitescreened and starving... there is footsteps outside. All the sudden I hear the loud bang of a shotgun just outside the house and some guy swearing at another guy (presumably the shotgun guy just kos'd the swearing guy), I put up my dukes and get ready to die. A mosin cracks out in the distance and footsteps scamper off toward to coast. A few more mosin and shotgun shots ring out in the distance. As I'm scavenging the area I run right smack into the mosin armed player inside a building and out of pure instinct, bambi anger and butthole tightening anxiety I start swinging again, hitting him a few times. He runs out of the building and calls "friendly" over coms, I apologize and tell him I'm sorry he scared the ever loving shit out of me. He says "ok ok its fine man". Both of us anxious as hell and talking in what seemed like 60 words per second, he accepted the apology, we exchange quick greetings and explain what we need/want/where we going in the most efficient manner I've ever seen in DayZ... this all happened in like 15 seconds of auctioneer speak. In 15 seconds I explained the bambi and my health situation, he inquired about the shotgun bandit which was the guy creeping around outside my house a few minutes earlier, I told him I needed food, he gave food, I offered him CR75 mag, he ACTUALLY HAD a CR75, he drops pistol and tells me he'll drop the mag slightly up on the road, tells me to give him a 30 second headstart, I do so. 30 seconds go by... I reluctantly go up the road and... Holy shit, not 10m out of town there is the mag laying there with the amazingly efficient hero no where to be found. I am now armed and no longer starving, thank you random guy of the hero type that I rarely ever see in DayZ... and I'm the guy who says they don't actually exist in the game. Then after an exhilerating half hour of DayZ my mom calls and I have to spend the next hour on the phone.

It actually runs on win xp quite well if you don't mind editing the cfg files manually.

Log out and back in or try a different server? It could possibly be desync or something. Try some different bushes maybe? I just tried to fill a jerry can yesterday and it didn't work at one particular gas station but worked at another. You can also run in circles to warm yourself up a little and there is a group of medical assistance players that will come to help you, there is a medical group both on here and on reddit I believe.

Question about security with the new admin tools
chickenmcfuggits posted a topic in General Discussion
It's fantastic, and for some reasons its not (badmins, griefer/butthurt admins), that admins now have some control over their servers, but I have a question about this. While it seems rare, it's known that some hackers can follow you server to server presumably by obtaining your IP address or maybe some other means related to Steam or DayZ. My clan has recently become the target of some hackers, they don't seem to be much more than lowly script kiddies, however just to be safe I want to pose this question: Is it possible that with the information the new admin tools give you that a badmin hacker could use this to track/harass players in this manner? -
Question about security with the new admin tools
chickenmcfuggits replied to chickenmcfuggits's topic in General Discussion
Yes I know that we use it all the time to join on each other and mine are configured already, but they are somehow able to follow players server to server, location to location in game (which, presumably, shouldn't be related at all to steam) regardless of steam privacy settings. This has happened to a number of popular streamers and one player in my clan. I'm concerned that they might be able to use this to outright ruin one persons gaming experience pretty much all the time, whenever they feel like it and no matter what server or where that person goes in-game. I understand that development has its methods and hacks should be dealt with when it is efficient to do so, but I feel this one is a major security issue. -
Think I found worst person to play Dayz

Whatever made you think turning your back on someone in DayZ was a good idea, it was wrong. Thats literally the worst possible thing anyone could ever do in this game. -
New Player, 20 hours in, I'm decently geared, now what?
chickenmcfuggits replied to Spectator (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
Find a group of friends, some handcuffs, a burlap sack and start putting some faces in the dirt. You can do it solo, but against one person you won't run into too many people that won't simply come at you regardless with whatever they have, be it fists or a firearm. When you have a group, people are much more likely to drop their weapon and put their hands up. Alternatively, you can try to be friendly to random people or help them but you will be lucky to get very far with this before someone shoots you when your back is turned. Heroes only exist here on the forums, as soon as they start up the game they go right back to kos. -
"My leg is in pain" and desaturated screen
chickenmcfuggits replied to karlkurtz32's topic in General Discussion
I feel like the W/F11 workaround should be stickied at the top of general discussion and/or new players forums until the bug is fixed. Soooo many people come here asking and making threads about this and it should be easy to find since its a pain in the ass (or leg) bug if you don't know how to get it to work. -
Or this, now rather famous guy:

You could impose some challenge on yourself, such as completely ignoring canned goods or trying to live solely off of hunting.

The wiki quite hilariously states that it is used for pest control. Aside from that, it says its super quiet and not only can it actually be filled with water and fired, but it makes it even quieter. This would be interesting to add in to DayZ along with some kind of snorkel you could craft, rising out of ponds and plinking someone to death unexpectedly with a .22 while they drink. Though I don't know if realistically the pistol can be fully submerged. So it actually does have a few interesting redeeming qualities that aren't in the game.

I'm not one that criticize's early access games but...
chickenmcfuggits replied to azgoodaz's topic in General Discussion
A couple things that I probably won't elaborate much on, even though I'm just a lowly helicopter hunter not related to anything: 1) I personally have absolutely no problem with BI taking their time, sometimes it takes patience and time to do things right and from the little I know about programming, art and developing games it is indeed one of those things. Also, DayZ in "alpha" stage is damn near the quality of "beta" stage of many other games. 2) Those "other" *cough* H1Z1 *cough* games are using absolutely horrible business models and are being made by a studio *cough* SOE *cough* that is known to be greedy and forsake their playerbase for a dollar. 3) There are actually other people on the forums begging for more clothes and useless flair items, believe it or not. -
I don't know if like where this is going.

I think this is a really cool idea having beards and maybe even longer hair as sort of a mark of how long your character has been alive, even though its largely irrelevant to the game at its current stage. Maybe they take a really long time of in-game hours to grow and if you didn't want it you could shave your face/head anyways. This aside, it really blows my mind how on this forum (and well hell, the entire internet) you could make a topic about the simplest, stupidest fucking thing in the world and somebody that has wikipedia at the top of their favorites shows up to shit all over everything everyone has to say for no apparent reason.

SOOO...Lost all my gear :(
chickenmcfuggits replied to Death By Dodo's topic in New Player Discussion
You either joined a different hive or it was a bug. If the latter, leave the server immediately, then try to join another or wait a bit and you should have your old gear back. -
That sounds like asking for trouble.

Looks like the video card is a little dated, you could try getting a new one. My video card is ancient but still better than the one you have, so an upgarde, even a significant one, woudn't cost you hardly anything. I'm guessing your bottleneck would be GPU related, but just for shits and giggles whats the speed of that processor? Anything over 3GHz I would think would be fine. Processors are a bit more difficult to replace though so consult someone on that if you choose to do it. 4GB should be enough RAM for DayZ, but more never hurts. It's cheap as well. Theres also a bunch of stuff you can do as far as in-game options, editing cfg files, steam launch parameters, unparking cores and things like that. Do a quick google search and you should find out everything you need to know, theres plenty of guides and posts that explain this stuff.
