I've read that with recent patches DayZ now has firefighter and medic clothes as well. Just as with the construction worker helmet I really wonder how many people really want to dress like that. So after I saw some pictures that seems to be from some DayZ Mod zombies (see below) I wondered if it wouldn't be rather cool to use existing clothes that players can also wear and just use it for zombie models. This would need some "almost naked" zombies as a base that get dressed up by some random combinations that could also be specified more precisely. For example: Zombies in a certain radus around military bases would mostly spawn in military clothes while zombies that spawn in and around a police station could rather be seen in our new police uniforms. This could work just as well with construction worker zombies, firefighter or medic zombies and so on. To fit their scary nature it would of course be good if these clothes are already somewhat stained and not in a pristine shape like the zombie has it in the picture below or there could even be blood on them. As a side note I would also prefer to see blood on players clothes once someone got injured so it would make sense to add this as a feature and some zombies would have some ruined and or bloody clothes right from the beginning when they spawn. This would also give the option to actually loot zombies. I'm not sure who would actually wear some ragged clothes he grabbed from a zombie but I like the thought that theoretically if you would want to you could take their stuff if and what they might have in their pockets. Now there's a big question left: Would this also make sense? I'm not so sure about it myself but I felt like sharing the thought with you. The development of DayZ is maybe already too far ahead for it to recreated the way zombies are. Yet I personally would like to see more variety in zombies and given the fact that the creation of police, firefighter, medic and other new zombies always require to build a model up from the start wouldn't it be easier resource wise, just to have some blank zombie bodys that you can equip with all the gear that the players can use as well to create this sort of variety?

As an easter egg in a really, really, REALLY limited quanitity per server spawned loot I'm for it. Even though I never use gold weapons in FPS games since they are way too cheesy in my opinion I support your idea because I think it wouldn't take much resources to turn an existing AK skin into a gold one (possibly some talented intern could do that). Also since the moment that I saw a black dude with a police officer hat in this game I fantasized about having some roleplay fun as a pseudo african dictator and some fake accent who's trying to establish his own dictatorship just for the laughs and a gold AK would suit that perfectly. xD

An AWP as a ultra rare helo drop would be cool as well. Mhh.. let's wait and see ;)

And ARMA2 has such a great MMO architecture, doesn't it? Not to mention that zoombies ran so horribly as reported by their 70000 user community in comparison to the awesome running DayZ standalone with it's incredible realistic zombies, which are totally not limited by the awesome ARMA2 engine. [/sarcasm]

They also confirmed bicycles but they still don't belong in this thread xDD

It appears the OP needs to post a definition of a bolt action rifle in his post.... My guess would be a CZ 550 http://www.gunlistings.org/image/42023/1/rifles_cz_550_varmint_308_kevlarmillettlnib

To make a long story short: they should have gone with the ARMA3 engine from the beginning instead of the outdated ARMA2 one. Who's actually surprised that Altis looks better? The only reason I see for this decision is that they could easily keep Chernarus this way yet the way Bohemia forced zoombies to close down tells all I need to know at how business threatening they regard a DayZ like mod on ARMA3

Actually it makes much more sense than to see american camo & gear like the M4 in the game. As you said it's a european scenario. If Chernarus would have been one of the first countries that was infested by the zombie plague - which is almost the only scenario that explains gear from foreign armies in this country - then it's more logical that EU memberstates helped and sent troops rather than the US. Variety rocks. Since we already have hats in different camos it would only make sense to implement fitting pants and jackets as well. You find camo scemes everywhere in the net and adjusting them to an existing model ain't exactly horribly time consuming. Yet most of all I would love to see a parka implemented.

Make 15%ish chance for pistols to spawn with magazines
ColdHeat replied to Bruce of Wayne's topic in General Discussion
Rather belongs to the suggestions forum but I approve it. And not only for pistols. The magazines might even be empty or only have few bullets remaining but it would make it only more logically. I'm tired of all those "now I have 3 different pistols, all with 1 bullet in the chamber but I can't find a damn magazine outside of a military base" situations. -
Only got long ranged sniped once. Most other deaths were by snipers in cities on much shorter distances and mostly from players that I passed either with disinterest or approached attempting to communicate and which shot me in return. The classical "I just pass along and all I got is an axe to defend myself from zombies" - "Oh you look like a walking treasure chest. Let's see what we have here.. BAM" situations.

Let's just wait and see how the devs handle it. Gaming wise everything would be an improvement right now and It would be a goddamn shame if playing in the night would be nothing more but a very atmospheric suicide trip. It's currently not the most pressing issue but it shows that DayZ still has a long road ahead to the beta.

So, any word yet on when/if we will get realistic (not random) balistics?
ColdHeat replied to crazykage's topic in General Discussion
Anything that makes this game more realistic and challenging is welcome to me. -
I'm not entirely sure yet if tanks really would make the game better. As with helicopters that might be armed with MG's or even more they have to be implemented very carefully to not ruin the balance and end of days flair. Right now I feel every feature that adds to the survival aspect is a step forward while every modern weapon that get's added is a step towards the old ARMA military simulator again where it all started. On the other hand improvised vehicles (and Molotovs to counter them) would certainly be fun and we need every ultra-rare late game content we can get but currently I think the devs are better advised to spent all their focus on the most basic ingredients such as zombies, survival & performance. A good game needs a good basis, not lot's of additional features. I would love to see a minigame like feature that allows you to weld plates of metal and even mounts for guns to ordinary cars in the good ol' A-Team style but I wouldn't be mad if this only get's implemented as DLC after the game is done and released. It's always fun and productive to think about it even now yet since we have no real idea how the game will look like when it's almost done I'd say we're a bit early to already fantasize about how additional high-end stuff could be added to the game.

You'd be surprised how many smartass comments are meant to be "obviously" as jokes.

Just being curious. Do you actually "play" the game?

I make the wild assumption that those people who are in towns want exactly that: CoD deathmatch. It's pretty much everything you can do right now because in order to successfully survive you don't have to necessarily go in the deathzones known as towns but can perfectly live from what you find in small villages.. which unfortunately is rather boring. Yet we haven't reached the end of the road by now. As you said yourself: Alpha. let's wait and see where Dean takes us

I still have hopes that with more makeshift weapons introduced, the amount of firearms & ammo will be lowered drastically - especially military gear - and thus they have the freedom to make assault rifles more realistic without turning everything in a big "M4/AKM to rule this world" mod.
-
Of course. After all your chance is high to hit some heartless animal murderer. Radical vegan bandits - the new big thing in Earth 2.0

And the darwin award goes to: starving hardliner vegetarians after the apocalypse

Yeah I know it's a brazen statement of mine. Yet I somewhat believe that even though we logically know that in a game like DayZ reading other peoples faces isn't going to help a single bit because it's simply not possible (just as trying to read their body language) subliminal we cannot put out that switch and still try it which might lead to the assumption that when we see someone who masks and hide his face he most likely could have evil intentions and is unwilling to "reveal his true intentions" by putting a mask on so that we cannot read him. What also comes to my mind is being indoctrinated by Hollywood that those guys who wear masks must be terrorists or robbers.. and not harmless skier for example. Now that I think of it we really need those balaclavas in the game to drive people crazy. ^^ Regarding the surgical mask: be careful. Someone might think you're a mad doctor who tries to experiment with him. xDD

Can't find developer comments on removal of mask + helmet combination
ColdHeat replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
I tried to combine those two items in the game and even though I knew it once worked wondered why it wouldn't work now and looked for some answers. Easy as that. So this thread is barely a month old and far from being answered or solved and that's necroing to you? You get me into believing you're really a marine. Yet I could bet if I would have opened a new thread for this matter, someone else would have come up saying something like: "there are already tons of threads dealing with this matter". -
Can't find developer comments on removal of mask + helmet combination
ColdHeat replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
So a few patches later and nothing has changed. I'd really like to know why they made that decision.. and of course see it reversed. It just doesn't make sense. -
As someone already wrote exept maybe for Payday masks there's no uniform codex of what's bandit gear and what not. The guy under the gasmask could be your next best friend. Yet it appears there's one psychological factor increasing the possibility to be killed on sight by even non-bandits: How intimiating/threatening you appear. On the one hand a lot of non-bandit people have described that they shoot people without warning depending where they meet them, if they have a gun in their hands, how they hold it (aimed, relaxed or on their back), if they wear military gear and so on. So everything that makes you appear more civilian, bambi-esque or Crocodile Dundee like possibly increases your chance that someone will not fire at you. On the other hand Motorbike helmets, gas masks or bandanas over your mouth have the problem that they de-humanize. If you cannot see someones face to read emotions etc, you empathize less with him and it makes it harder to trust him as well. You could argue about it but I guess to a certain extent this phenomenon also works in games. People with masks remind you less to a human being so you have a lesser problem with killing him. So it's really all about how this game plays with subliminal fears, mistrust and brutalization.. which ultimatively makes it so appealing.

The ability to survive a mosin headshot thanks to a helmet (may it be motorbike or ballistic helmet) is entirely overexaggerated. Modern kevlar army helmets aren't designed to help you survive a headshot. Their entire purpose is to protect you against shrapnels. Since we don't have grenades in DayZ they should of course help you in close combat not to get knocked out so quickly but a headshot should be fatal, no matter what you're wearing.
