Yesterday I played the Mod after 200 hours of Standalone.
jeffroland replied to Bambi Population Control's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
In case the bulk of you haven't figured this out, the dev team keeps changing things from release to release. I.E, the previous release there were zombies everywhere and they re-spawned immediately. This .44 release they are hardly to be seen and they don't respawn. They've had similarly drastic tweaks to the loot. My point is that these changes are all because they are TESTING the components to the game. It's not indicative of the direction of the game as the original OP thinks. -
Loot, Supplies - They're just too common.
jeffroland replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
Insane, No doubt that there's to much loot with the current build. Every time they release an update it seems like something has changed with the looting. I think they're experimenting with certain looting mechanics and probably needed high loot spawns to test these things. The next release may go the other extreme, who knows. -
1. The AI spotting is very simplified. It doesn't take camouflage into effect. If it's looking in your direction and just a portion of your body is visible then it can and will spot you. This is how it worked in ARMA so it's no surprised that it's like this in DayZ. I'm not saying that they couldn't change it to reflect a more realistic camouflage spotting routine, I'm just saying that's how the engine works now. 2. The fact that you could see out of the shrubs in multiple directs means that many bits of your body was in fact visible to anyone outside of the shrub. Just because you're inside of the shrub doesn't mean that hidden by any means. 3. You were moving your body like a fish on a hook. A human could have spotted you easily. 4. You were spotted first by the Zombie because you were visible first. They guy with the gun was up by the buildings and probably not even visible to the zombie even though he was shooting. There's absolutely no evidence of hacking here.

True Reason For East-Coast Spawns? Map Expansion?
jeffroland replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
But all of the quality loot is on the "edges" of the map. If this is their intent then what reason will players (other than fresh spawns) have to go in the middle of the map? -
There are litterally hundreds of DayZ servers and the vast majority have few to no players. I learned to play the game on these low population servers until I got comfortable. I have run around for hours and hours without ever seeing a soul. I suggest you do the same. Tip: press "P" key once in a while to see how many people are on the server. If it starts to fill up then move to another. It's quite simple to avoid humans if you want to.

True Reason For East-Coast Spawns? Map Expansion?
jeffroland replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
WTF? Your previous post says exactly the opposite of what you say here. -
Why is development time being poured into more new towns?
jeffroland replied to uberfrag's topic in General Discussion
Well, this is dependent on the map being completed first. Rocket or one of the other developers mentioned this in a post. -
Awesome story, you and your friend were lucky to survive that broken leg incident.

Have the devs addressed the gamma night vision issue?
jeffroland replied to Johnny Depth's topic in General Discussion
True, your ears really do pick up the slack in real life but it's not like the Zombies or other players in DayZ will have an advantage over you. BTW, since the latest patch I've started keeping any head lamp that I come across. It comes in handy by leaving your hands free for important stuff like shooting or hacking. Night time is very playable with one of these. There aren't many people that play night time and since the latest .44 patch there aren't very many zombies around. I completely ran through an entire town without one Z chasing me. -
Did the unresponsive hot keys actually get worse?
jeffroland replied to Rick1633's topic in General Discussion
So maybe the proper place to post this is the official bug tracking page??? BTW, I only see unusable slots on damaged bags and boxes which is how it should be. -

jeffroland replied to Johnny Depth's topic in General Discussion
I've had a good deal of fun on night servers. By fun I mean a terrified heart pounding nervous reck of a time, but isn't that why we play DayZ in the first place? You absolutely need a flashlight otherwise it's impossible to find loot and no fun at all because you literally can't see a thing. But if you have a light then it really can be a heart pounding experience with lots of dilemas and choices. Do you risk turning on your light for the little bit of loot in that building? -
Faster way to get military geared up?
jeffroland replied to DarkRattle's topic in General Discussion
Since the .44 update I've found several maps within the game. They've obvisouly made them spawn more frequently because I had not found a single map in the previous two months of playing. Anyway, if you're not a purist and don't mind "cheating" you can always use the dayzdb.com map. -
Will this custom pc be able to run DayZ?
jeffroland replied to themanofthehour3561's topic in General Discussion
Well, I ran it on my old laptop and it was just a 260m which is light years behind the 550ti desktop version, so I think I'm pretty accurate with my claims. As for the SSD, I agree. If he's on a budget he should dump the SSD and get a 1 or 2 TB HDD. The money saved on that will allow a better graphics card easily. -

jeffroland replied to themanofthehour3561's topic in General Discussion
TheManofthehour, Here's what I recomend if you have it in your budget. Like colekern said, the 2500k is overclockable (any i5 series chip with a k after it is) and it will only cost a few $ more thant the 2500. The best modeslty priced Nvidia card on the market right now is the GTX 750ti which is priced only $30-40 more than the GTX 650, according to New Egg. Not only is this card faster, it uses about half the energy thanks to new technology. This means you don't need to spend extra $$ on a high wattage power supply, although I wouldn't change your current setup of 500w (you might want the extra power later for other peripherals) -

Thank you, you've just proven my point that his desired specs are more than enough to play the game regardless of server side or software optimaztion, two things which he has no control over. So no, I'm not full of shit. And while I haven't used FRAPS or anything else to actually clock my FPS on my current Desktop, I can tell that even in towns that my FPS is super smooth. I'm comparing this to my old laptop which I actually did test with FRAPS on ARMA II that got between 15-22 FPS with a now shitty GTX 260m card. -

jeffroland replied to themanofthehour3561's topic in General Discussion
No way, I only have a GTX 550ti and I'm quite certain that I never get near 20 fps. Of coarse if he's running a really high resolution monitor then maybe it might be slower than what I'm seeing. Given that he posted a modest rig I suspect that he's only got a 1080p monitor. -

Easily, no problem. -
If you read the development blog they mentioned something about that:

this is fun (you are/no longer getting wet notification)
jeffroland replied to Ugly (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
That's a horrible way to simulate the annoyance of getting wet. The real annoyances should be that your equipment and clothes get heavier which makes your character slower, your body gets colder and therefore can contribute to hypothermia, you shiver which will drastically affect your aim, increase in a chance of getting a sickness such flu...etc... those are some REAL annoyances. -
Is that when someone posts something that doesn't make their point?
-
Wow, that clip does absolutely nothing to help make your point or counter mine. I hope we do need loads of items just to survive. It will actually be like trying to survive in an apocalypse, which is what this game is supposed to be about. As it is now, surviving is extremely simple. Hopefully it will get harder to where it is actually a challenge. Otherwise, what's the point in playing the game?
-
Let's really think about what you're really asking for here. If you take the grinding out then there will no need to kill people or fear zombies. You wont need to worry about hunger, thirst, your medical condition etc.. Basically DayZ will become a HUGE map where you might occasionally run into another player, kill him, and take his loot which is no better than yours because neither of you had to grind for it. There are a million games out there where survival/grinding isn't the main aspect. Play those if you don't like the grinding. Leave this one game for us grinders and survivors.

Well, I've spawned twice on the south shore since the latest release. It was on the eastern end of the south shore near the Islands but definitely on the south shore. One of these was on the beach and the other was inland several hundred meters just north of Kamyshovo

We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.
jeffroland replied to 1S1K-Airborne's topic in General Discussion
In response to original OP: No way. As others have stated, how can the computer differentiate a between a bandit and a honest player defending himself? I've had to kill several jackholes lately with an M4 because I was nice to them, said hello, let them go on their way, only to have them double back on me and try to axe me to death. If your proposal was implemented I'd be branded a bandit right now. Besides it's a hell of a lot more tense and exciting NOT KNOWING whether that guy or gal you just met can be trusted.
