    My top 1 concern

I think you should worry about getting a better ISP, not FPS.

    Players dwindling

You've certainly got a point that most people don't realize how long it takes to make a full game. However, back when DayZ Alpha first went public I don't think that anyone thought that the entire game engine would be re-engineered. I think most of us thought, and were originally led to believe by the developers at the time, that the game would be enhanced or elements added to the current engine at that time. Obviously decisions were made after this which altered the scope of project significantly. I think many of the DayZ team wasn't even hired yet when the Alpha was first launched. New team members and the decision to re-engineer the game engine has pushed things way back (for the good), but people will have to be patient.

I agree with bonesnap here. I've taken a big break from DayZ lately. The decision to have a public Alpha was premature. Maybe they should have waited until Beta, but obviously they needed some sort of funding to launch the entire project. I keep tabs on the development every week but I have only put in 2 hours in the last 6 months. I'll come back in Beta or when there's something worth playing, but right now I've got too many other good games to play that are complete.

    Lack of everything

I've been on servers that have lots of food and drink but have also started on servers with little or no drink. For a starting spawned player, it all depends on which server you land on. In addition to the wells where you can get ample water, you can find trees or shrubs that have fruit. Move inland as quickly as possible to avoid humans and get to less scavenged areas.

    My New Player Guide (Spoliers/SFW)

hehe, you're already finding out that you'll have space issues. Maybe dropping some canteens is a good choice. You'll probably have to once, and if, you find some mags. Anyway, as you've probably already found out, you can shoulder one large weapon and keep the other in your hands. The only problem is that when you want to pick up or interact with any other item, you'll have to put the gun down. In the past, due to a bug, there was a really good chance you'll loose the item that you place on the ground. I'm not sure if they've fixed it.

Well, certainly play how you want to, but I'm just saying that you don't need all those canteens. Especially considering the amount of limited slots you can carry stuff. As for camping, I have no idea why anyone would do that. All the fun is exploring from town to town looking for equipment, running from zeds (when they're in the game) and unexpectedly running into another survivor. I can't imagine sitting around in a camp except to get warm, but then it's time to move on to the next adventure. And since you're into using 3rd party maps then you'll be much better off with this one : http://dayzdb.com/map It's frequently updated and has all the new northern towns as well as updated loot locations.

4 canteens? That's a bit much. Often I end up dropping all of my canteens. There are sodas and water wells liberally sprinkled throughout the land. Depending on the server it can be very hard to find drink or food if you're character has just spawned. You're already near a state of hunger and thirst when you spawn, but once you're hydrated and full of food, you rarely have to worry about either. You can run around for many hours without being in danger of thirst or hunger, certainly long enough to get to the next well or find a soda or food. So don't be afraid to ditch your canteens, at least in this Alpha version of DayZ. Possibly they'll make water and soda a bit harder to find later on in development but for now it's quite easy.

    Potential Buyer

The thing About Early Access: It's not just that there's bugs/instability, you'll have to be OK with a game that is still in the middle of an Alpha release. This basically means that the game as it is right now is in no way what the game will be when it's "released". It's been in Alpha for almost two years and it's only taken baby steps of improvement at every update. Yes, the updates are regular, typically once a month or a bit longer. As of right now there are no zombies in the game. They used to be in game and were very crude with only basic AI. They are completely reworking zombies from the ground up including zombie types, animation, AI and behavior etc. Nobody really knows how many zombies it will be able to handle or how many the developers plan on putting in. They are reworking code to handle these things and they probably wont know until some stress tests are run in the future. If you're OK with playing a game that doesn't have zombies presently and that's not even close to being it's "final product", then by all means jump in. Otherwise, just wait a year or so until it's in Beta and should more closely resemble the developer's final product.

    Carrying 2 rifles in DayZ

I think the real problem with the two primary gun system is that you don't know that you dropped the weapon. The game never tells you. It's completely logical to have to drop a gun so that you can open a can of beans or climb a ladder, however, in real life you would realize this. In DayZ, you eat some beans or look through your binoculars and then get on your way, totally forgetting that you dropped a gun on the ground because there isn't an indication that you've done so.

    SKS Underpowered

It's amazing how much you think you know. I don't doubt that any of the rifles you just listed shoot better than a Mosin but your claim that the Mosin is inaccurate is laughable. I'm sure that the reason Russia invested so much into the line of Mosins is because of their inaccuracy. You got it right. http://www.historynet.com/mosin-nagant-model-189130-russias-world-war-ii-sniper-rifle.htm

Do you think either one of those is indicative of the "pristine" Mosin represented in the game? of course not. You obviously shot well worn rifles, either worn rifling or some other defect. The obvious shitty grouping differences is pretty much a dead giveaway of that. No way Vasili Zaitsez gets famous with that kind of grouping at 100m
