I think the problem is not ruined clothing being unable to be repaired. It's the rate at which clothes get ruined. Though I can imagine a zombie tearing a HUGE chunk of cloth out of a shirt which would need more then just a sewing kit (if something really gets torn out you will either have to retrieve it or find a replacement)
-
This adds nothing... I am sorry but i really cannot see the point of this other than that you want to get more space in your inventory. The ruined repairing part is NEVER going to get into this game I hope (what is the idea behind ruined clothes if they are to be repaired)

CPU and ram should be fine. My guess is that it is your video settings and maybe you could get better results with a video card upgrade. I am not the best tech on performance so I might be wrong. windows 8 might have been a big problem if you had less RAM, but 8gb should be fine to run DayZ on. The fact that RAM isn't a problem (16 gb is a lot to fill up) your hard-drive wont matter that much either. It would be helpful if you told us how your settings are for the game itself. There are various ways to tune down settings and improve fps, some are not within the options screen. I also couldn't find the exact specs of your video cards. You could also try to do performance checks of CPU and RAM by opening up the task manager (ctrl+shift+esc). Check your Resource Monitor (also accesable trough task manager) for even more detailed info. Try to exclude other programs/downloads as much as possible. downloads are not very likely unless you have bad ping and a lot of desync (press P ingame and select your name). Also, please remember that the current game is VERY poorly optimized. It is one of the biggest things on the road-map for this year. In comparison, i am running a single GPU that doesn't even beat your AMD alone (especially because it has VERY limited memory). RAM and CPU are barely a problem these days unless you have low amounts (i have 4gb, and my DayZ would struggle with memory if i ran windows 8) I also boosted performance of all my games by deactivating all the fancy bullshit(I'm sorry) windows has, even on windows 7. Windows also has a performance chart (atleast in win7) when you go to Control Panel -> System -> Windows performance index. This could tackle some problems. Sometimes the fancy stuff of windows runs very poorly, which will hurt GPU, CPU and memory performance. My guess is that either your CPU is using but 1 core instead of all 4 OR your settings are simply to high for your GPU (that is both windows and DayZ settings combined)

Anyways, the fact that a ghillie suit and drybag are in this vid are enough to know that this isn't the origins of the word bambi. I haven't played the mod, but my guess it has it's origins in the mod, not the Stand Alone.

Solo – Hardcore – Guerrilla warfare versus multiple squads.

A strange place for such a unorganized war-zone. I see them quite often in the big cities, but those in the woods are quite rare. especially since you are at least 10 minutes away from any big gun spawns, considering the long swim to the island or the walk from Balota. You most certainly cheated death there with those 3 guys only hitting your arm :P -
In my opinion this game should focus on melee combat
Quimoth replied to Avant-Garde's topic in General Discussion
I think that the most important thing to be fixed is the fact that i always feel like a drunk man when using melee in first person. It is way harder to circle zombies in first-person then it is to do so in third. Perhaps melee should have a different cross-hair or at least it should be made a bit more visible where you land your strike, especially the delay is something which took me quite some time to master. I think that a new melee system is something we MUST have before zombies get more dangerous, because right now i cannot fight zombies 5 to 1 with melee in first person unless i have a firefighter-axe and the guts to tank some hits in the hope that i break nothing. I think the devs have some kind of progression map like this: Melee combat -> allows better zombies -> allows less damage on gear -> allows loot to be more rare Hunting and craftable weapons -> allows surviving with minimal amounts of loot -> allows loot to be more rare -> Raids can be made more rewarding AND more risky (better zeds) Persistance -> allows to store supplies for later -> benefits those who bond together and form a group to search the right loot (car parts) -> allows zeds to be more numerous. These things are all slowly starting to progress. I think the first thing we need before Zeds can get stronger and more numerous is a good melee system. How many ways of attacking/dodging there are isn't that important. The fact that melee right now is harder to aim then a rifle (seriously this is the case right now) is ridiculous, as said above, a firearm requires a lot more training. Actually the only thing i am sure we will see is a stabbing and hacking attack to choose from (hacking with a knife just looks stupid) -
Get rid of inventory "tetris", its busy work and limiting.

I think that if they would implement such a thing then some backpacks suddenly fit guns in them, not really what i would like to see (a sawed off gun in a backpack is enough for me, i don't wan't people to pull a freaking AKM out of their hunting backpacks) -
I agree, if this game wants to be survival oriented and atleast a bit realistic then bonding with others (even strangers) should prove beneficial (merely to the point that it makes surviving easier) Lone wolves should be allowed to exist, but they should be most vulnerable at getting wounded, a real lone wolf would prevent any contact with others since he will always be out numbered. Not to mention he will not be able to help himself if he passes out or sleeps while a horde comes to his campfire. This last situation isn't unrealistic (just watch season 1 of the walking dead again). If you form a group, you might die, yet your group might be saved by your death. Not to mention that should you have any problem (no appropriate medical supplies f.e.) your group can go searching for those much needed medical supplies. TL;DR; Lone Wolves will not disappear, but it should be much easier/beneficial to form a group. This is purely natural (considering you play as a human being, not some kind of alien)

According to you this is intended as a PvP. Yet why on earth would we need any zombies or a story at all, if this was a PvP? It is meant as a survival game. The current amount of zombies (and their still very basic AI) make the survival part extremely easy. The ultimate goal of Dayz is probably that all the factors in the game make it extremely beneficial to team up with some people you encounter, this is realistic since you play as a human. If you want to play PvP there are plenty of games offering exactly that.(go play the new halo) This is a SURVIVAL game, not PvE not PvP. It is meant to simulate what COULD happen IF, therefore you should be forced to group or at-least interact with others. If you are alone you will get yourself into some trouble you CANNOT get out of (30 zombies for example). Not to mention the pvp right now is just for fun, this is why they are focusing on persistence first. Once they can lower spawn rates, everything becomes rare. PvP then becomes something you do to get the loot or to protect you and your group/camp (which is strange since right now gear instantly breaks once it receives even a scratch from one single bullet, but i guess that will change) This is merely my point of view, but i think that the major line is going to be verified in future patches, afterall this game is based upon Survival.

it was a weekly maintenance, it's mentioned on the steam forums that every Wednesday at 0700 GMT the servers are going offline for an approx of 3 hours. i do think the communication is a bit bad tho (maybe post maintenance updates on twitter, doesn't have to be more then an approx delay or a confirmation of the maintenance)

And THAT is how you deal with bugs :P

quickest way to improve fps: reduce quality/disable shadows. after that the only real fps boost you can get will be to reduce textures. other settings are really depending on your GPU etc. so it is hard to tell what changes they will make (tho lowering quality will ofcourse have some impact) i wont recommend disabling post-processing since that is used to display your health(the blurrier your vision, the lower your health) for me, reducing resolution and shadows is more then enough to have quite a stable performance.
-
if that would mean it would be beneficial to work together (which it is) i don't see the point. i'm not saying that you shouldn't be ruthless, but being in a group can add a lot to the game. As i've already said, the rewards should be little (almost not even worth it, unless you are really aiming to be in a group, for example, you have a high chance to spawn near your base once those are implemented). Starters gear being worn/damaged really doesn't mean that much, before your clothes fall off you will have found at least a dozen of equal or better clothes.

go whine on kids. if you don't like what you get go cry deeply into yourself that you are stupid enough to buy a pre-release when you clearly don't understand the meaning of such a thing. i've learned my lesson tho, you kids crying that the game is crap as it is right now clearly lack the wits to have a decent discussion with. i think it would be best to ban all of you ignorant all knowing kids that think coding a game is easy and can be done within weaks. tbh, it is pointless explain these monkeys that alpha is alpha and not beta or full product. The same discussions are on the StarForge forums, and they really don't achieve anything else but being a big pit for all the hate people have. (both the haters and the lovers of the game. that is why imo, you should insta ban the posters or atleast remove posts which are constructed like this. there is no constructive feedback, there has been done little to no research at all into what features are already confirmed AND somehow it seems logical to these monkeys that bugs aren't going to be fixed(which of-course isn't the case but they seem to keep thinking it is because the bugs aren't fixed within 2 hours)

I've got a suggestion and I'm curious to see if anyone agrees with it. Everyone knows there are some people you can trust and some you cannot trust. Yet there isn't really a goal for it yet. Maybe we could add karma which would then affect the place we spawn next time and maybe even some low tier gear(better shirt/pants or a small melee weapon). karma would start at 100 each time one re-spawns so that you can try a different approach every time you play. Helping others out by providing medical supplies, sharing your cooking fire/stove or even sharing some loot will raise your karma. The hard thing would be to prevent someone to abuse this system since you could just try to pile a lot of karma and then get yourself killed, which means you shouldn't make the rewards to high. if your karma is below 100 when you die, you will have gear which is worn or even worse depending on how much survivors you have shot/hurt. For the hero rewards i was thinking about things like: a can opener, kitchen knife, screw drive, can of beans, canned tuna, 1 old gear piece(of your last life), more slots to hide special loot within your base.
