Where's the best place to find a backpack?
kingbritain replied to zombieland78's topic in New Player Discussion
If there are AI missions (Epoch) then there will usually be backpacks there. If not, look in the military areas. Also, shooting someone for their gear (and backpack) is a lucrative and relatively difficult option (for the one who enjoys a challenge). -
A very busy couple of weeks for the whole team has just ended....

Please God... No AS50... *cue nopeathon* -
Maybe. But still, if you do die, it only proves that the other guy is a royal jerk.

In a secluded field one and a half kilometers away from the closest town, you and a bandit come face-to-face in what will be a fatal showdown. He pulls his M4, you pull your Blaze 95, and both sides exchange bullets. You hit him in the head, he hits you... Where? Good question. This is a guide to prepare you for every eventuality. 1. He's hit you in the arm, and you're bleeding pretty profusely. You check your inventory. Bandage count: nil. What to do? Take off your shirt, place it in your inventory, right click, and hit 'tear into rags.' Right click the rags, hit use. You will bandage and stop bleeding. Now, your screen is white. I always suggest playing with a friend so he can bloodbag you. Solo play is the easiest way to die. 2. He's hit you in the leg, and there's a sickening crack. You cry out in pain, but have enough time to shoot him before falling prone. Now all you can do is crawl. What to do? You need morphine. And fast. But first, you need to bandage, whether by rag or actual bandage. After bandaging, crawl over to his body and take his morphine. If he has none, and you have none, crawl to the nearest town to find some, but that will take a while. 3. He's hit you in the head. You're dead. 4. You sustained no damage, but here comes the horde! Run. Just flat run, and lose them in the trees. 5. He has a buddy! Shoot him before he shoots you. 6. He turned into a bloodsucking alien! Dude, I want some of what you're smoking. Thanks for reading guys, and I'll see you in the field! -KB

Both are good ideas. Thanks guys!

That sounds really cool. I think a cool feature would be UN safe houses on the coast with players masquerading as UN troops handing out basic supplies (food, improvised courier bag, etc) and letting players go and start their own safe houses. That would be a cool role-play to do.

Alright, bambies, you've probably clicked on this post because you've got the basics of DayZ down and wish to move at a highly advanced rate. Perhaps you've established yourself as a viable player but want to learn helicopter basics. Perhaps you're running with a clan or group and want to gather materials for a base. Regardless of why, this is your (possibly) number one helicopter tactics guide. In its purest, helicopter flying is core to the game but is a serious risk. As one would imagine, helicopters are loud. And easy to hit. And fragile. You must have all the tools necessary to completely remodel this helicopter at a moment's notice. Let's get right to it. ======== Learning to Fly======== Surprisingly enough, ArmA 2 is worth more than just being a base game for DayZ and Wasteland. Its helicopter tutorial (and to an extent, the fixed-wing/VTOL training) is worth playing to learn. Some basic controls (using default key binding) are as follows: q to gain altitude, z to lose altitude, c and x to spin, and the mouse to angle. Helicopters fly by pushing air behind it via rotor, giving it lift and speed. I'm not going too in-depth on the controls. Play the tutorial in ArmA 2 so you can learn. Pro tip- land nice and slow. ======== Maintenance ======== It depends on the helicopter you're using, but the vast majority use a lot of parts. Even the Mozzie, the smallest helicopter, uses five distinct parts. Keep in your helicopter gear the following equipment: two main rotor assemblies, five scrap metal, fifteen to twenty jerry cans, two or three full fuel barrels, nine to fifteen windscreen glass, and five to seven wheels. Keep all vehicle parts under twenty percent. If it sounds like a pain, that's because it is. Helicopter driving is not for the faint of heart. ======== Tactics ======== This section will be split into two parts: base raids and Epoch missions. Base raids will be discussed first. When assaulting a base from the ground, land and lock your helicopter about one kilometer out. This serves to not alert the base's inhabitants, wether by noise or visual. After the base has been cleared, fly the helicopter up and land in the base or right outside the base to make transport of supplies easier. After that, get the heck outta town, pronto! Regarding Epoch missions, I have often flown directly over and sustained trivial or even no damage. If your helicopter has door guns, use them to knock down the majority of the AI, then disembark half a klick away and finish them off. As with base raids, bring the helicopter up to make supply transport easy. Same as before, turn tail quick-like, being a sitting duck is never fun. And finally, regarding giving other players rides: NEVER, I WILL REPEAT NEVER, GIVE OTHER PLAYERS RIDES! It will end in your death. There is perhaps one exception, but I haven't met him yet. Did I miss something? Comment it below! Thanks for reading, and I'll see you in the field! KingBritain

My game experience until now (100+ hours) and how it changed
kingbritain replied to MarchmelloMan's topic in General Discussion
That was about the most apt description of alpha phase I've ever heard. Good point! -
The warm sun is in stark contrast with the cold air that chills my wet clothing. The first deep breath I take is filled with sand, causing me to choke and cough up water. As my body naturally purges the foreign contaminant, I glance up and take inventory of the situation. I am lying on a beach, looking across a road at a gently sloping hill covered in trees. My stomach appears to be empty, as I am retching, but nothing is coming up. That's a problem: I'm hungry now. I stagger to my feet and begin walking toward the forest. As I cross the road, I look both ways and see a stretching road, nothing in sight on either side. I reach the trees and begin to hear flies, buzzing around something. I follow the noise, and the rancid smell of degradation reaches my noise. I look down and see a body, dressed in camouflage, dead. I jump back, expecting him to attack me, but he's definitely dead. I carefully examine him. His backpack is perforated with holes, four that I can see. His helmet has one in the direct center, blood staining the opening. This man was shot. I look around. Someone shot him, before I got here. I am jumpy, expecting to meet the same fate at any moment. I finally kneel and open his pack. The bullets damaged a lamp he was carrying, but I find some food and a canteen. I search a leather strap running across his chest and discover it is a holster, carrying a .45 caliber pistol. No ammunition, unfortunately. I take both holster and pistol and move on. I want to bury him, give him a proper death, but I can't expose myself that much. I begin walking through the woods, heading west, following the road. After about fifteen minutes of walking, I come upon a town. I walk in and see a man standing in the road. "Hey!" He turns. I see something is horribly wrong. His skin is a deathly gray pallor, and blood is spattered everywhere along his face. I fall back in surprise. He begins to run toward me, and I scream. It is a scream of pure fear. As the man comes within ten feet of me, two shots ring out and he falls dead. I look at the source and see a man dressed similarly to the dead man I saw earlier. "Hey, are you friendly?" "Yeah, yeah. Friendly. Who are these guys?" A sudden realization dawns on me. "You just killed someone!" "He would've killed you. I protected you." "I... Just got here. What do we do?" "Any ammo for that gun?" "No." "Good." He levels the gun at me, briefly aims at my head, and pulls the trigger. THE END.

I can do one for each life. I mean, this wasn't hard to do, but if you guys like it, then yeah, I'll do it. Thanks for reading, bro! In DayZ, it'll end in one of three ways. One, you die of hunger/thirst. Two, you get killed by bandits. Three, you are a bandit and get killed by a hero. Any way you play, it ends in death.
-
Yup. Got pissed at a bandit that killed me and decided to write based off the extremely short life I had.

OK, so if DayZ, the mod OR the standalone, were to be more realistic, it would need more guns, ammo, and real-life degradation. ========Guns========= -An SKS, it's the precursor to the AK-47, it's already in SA, but the mod would benefit from it. Uses 7.62x39 millimeter in real life. -FN SCAR. Already in the mod, but the SA would benefit from it. Altogether a pretty awesome rifle. -Sig Sauer P226. Nice pistol, really powerful, would probably kill a zed in one shot. -Harpoon gun. More blood loss over time than initial damage, but it'll stick 'em and they'll eventually bleed to death (unless a buddy bandages them, or they go to a hospital). -M24. Already in the mod, but in the SA it would help a lot. -AR-15. Imagine an M4, but scale the ammo down to .223, which is a little less powerful than 5.56 but more common. -M1 Garand. Imagine a Lee Enfield, but with a bit less powerful (but more common) ammo. -Remington 870. In the mod, it sucks, so make it better in the SA. -M249. In the mod, it's great, so PLEASE put in the standalone. -Desert Eagle. Okay, nobody would use it because it's so loud, but man, it's powerful. =====Degradation====== In real life, when you use a gun for a while, the firing pin, retention pins, barrels, and basically every part will get some wear-and-tear after prolonged use. But in the mod, none of this happens. I've been running the same MkII SPR for three or four weeks straight, and it shoots perfect. In the SA, degradation is pretty well simulated, but I don't have the SA. (Rats and rubbish). So maybe add the game files from SA into the mod? Thanks for reading and considering, and I'll catch you all in the field! -KingBritain

Gun additions? Degradation? SA/Mod
kingbritain replied to kingbritain's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
All bickering aside, this is just a list of guns that IN MY OPINION would make the game better. Thanks for reading! -
Haven't visited in a while, but it's not crazy. It's about as expected, where there's about five bambies and three to five bandits in at any given point.
-
Agreed, albeit strangely put.

Gun additions? Degradation? SA/Mod
kingbritain replied to kingbritain's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The P226 is actually able to shoot 9 millimeter, 40 S&W, and .45. I will admit, the Garand is a bit outlandish, but it uses 7.62x39 (confirmation?). The Lee Enfield uses .308. Yes, there are no SCARs in vanilla, but the Mk 16 is pretty close. And maybe we won't, but it doesn't hurt to suggest it. If it never happens, then it never happens. -
As long as it takes to sort out the things wrong, I would prefer nothing new added. I will, however, leave the decisions to the devteam, as they are a lot wiser when it comes to making a game from scratch.

Gun additions? Degradation? SA/Mod
kingbritain replied to kingbritain's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
While this may be true, you don't know for sure. I sincerely hope not, because nobody should abandon their roots to move on to greater things. Saying this, you and I don't know. Only rocket and the rest of the devteam knows. -
My game experience until now (100+ hours) and how it changed
kingbritain replied to MarchmelloMan's topic in General Discussion
You've really learned the core game. A lot of babies join, die a few times, and never play again because they don't know that in its simplist DayZ is a vicious cycle of dying, gearing, and dying again. For me, that's half the allure.
