    Mortar!

I really don't want to keep going back and forth on this. We just have different points of view here and I should have been more respectful towards yours to begin with. I still don't see what they would be doing in a small town like this but that is aside from the point. My issue isn't about the functionality of mortars, or status quo's in other games. My issue is with disrupting the continuity of the game's atmosphere. There is no denying that Dayz is a unique game, and I would hate to see what makes it special changed by adding items that don't really seem to fit. It would be like players being given samurai swords; sure they look cool and are probably fun to play around with but they don't belong and suddenly the atmosphere feels a little less authentic and the whole experience loses some of its immersive quality. However, if the majority of the player base wants them in then I have no right to complain.

    Zombies with loot

Do you think it would have a negative effect on the games atmosphere if people began farming zombies for loot? I'm just curious what you guys think.

    Mortar!

Explain to me why artillery would be a small town like this. Why would the military have them in the area? (And claiming they're from the air-strip is out of the picture because no military in the world would keep high-explosives without any form of blast-proof storage facilities.)

    OP Zombies

Duff, everything you suggested would be very entertaining in a single player game about dispatching the undead. However, everything you suggested would also require a TREMENDOUS amount of coding to implement over top of the existing system. The devs have said they will be making changes to the zombies as the alpha progresses and server stability becomes less of an issue so have patience if you think the zombies seem simple at the moment. Furthermore, and this may be just the way I see things, but if you're looking at this game as a zombie-shooter then you're mistaken. The zombies are simply part of the background, a lingering explanation for the environment. The true meaning of this game is scavenging and decision-making based on personal morality. Its about surviving by yourself, and moral decisions while around others. I'll take deep gameplay mechanics like those over L337 screwdriver-kill cut-scenes any day.

    Mortar!

How dare people indeed, Dale. I'll let your attitude slide this time. Don't make me break out the wrath of Carl Winslow on you. No really, though...mortars make zero sense in this game.

How the hell did this thread make it to 46 responses?

Pyromania! (Molotov cocktails and ways of making fire)

I totally understand your points, Lezza. I just think it would be more work to code in than its effectiveness would warrant.

Pyromania! (Molotov cocktails and ways of making fire)

Flamethrowers would totally not be worth it to carry. First you'd have to drop your backpack and weapon to equip it and second because real flamethrowers have about three and a half seconds worth of triggertime in them.
  9. Monk, you get my beans for two reasons. First because you agree with my post. Second because your avatar is Harvey Birdman's falcon.

Pyromania! (Molotov cocktails and ways of making fire)

Lol gaf, that is the exact expression anyone makes after starting a fire with means outside lighters or matches. I know there are other way simpler ways to make fire than a fire-bow if it were an emergency but it just seems like a fire-bow would be the simplest to code into the game as all the required materials already exist. Using a battery and steel wool, arching off a car battery, magnifying glass, mirror and light ect ect are all great IRL but it would be extra work on the devs to add those extra items.

    Zombies with loot

I wouldn't mind it. At the moment I think it might put undue pressure on the servers but eventually I think it would be an alright idea.

    Mortar!

I'd like to see Molotov cocktails before I saw mortar rounds.

    siphoning fuel.

A pretty simple system for taking fuel from a non-functioning vehicle and putting it in a jerry-can. Can be done as long as a player has a tube or hose in their inventory and a jerry-can in their hands. I would love to see vehicle parts become more rare as spawns but become salvagable off other vehicles.

    siphoning fuel.

I hope so. At times the mod didn't feel very much like a zombie apocalypse, it felt more like a Soviet version of GTA.

This game needs a lever-action rifle!

Didn't CZ make a bolt action .357 and .44 for a few years? That might make more sense, and I would love to be able to carry a rifle that uses the same ammo as my pistol to save inventory space.

Take the league of legends approach.

Its a nice idea, and I'd love to see it implemented if Bohemia has the extra manpower to do it, otherwise I would much rather them make best use of their current crew by plugging away at developmental issues. Maybe eventually when theres less important work to be done.

    Server types

So one of the biggest things I have noticed on these forums is something of a divide in the playerbase. It seems half the community is looking for gameplay based more heavily on weapons and fighting and the other half seems to want more of a survival style game. Why not make two types of servers, one for survival enthusiasts that spawns far fewer weapons and encourages more scavanging and cooperation and another for more of an anarchy based gameplay element. As it stands the survival guys despise all the KoS players out there (or are at least annoyed with the amount of them) and players looking for a good fight want to see more military gear spawning. No doubt, the goal of the game should still be surviving a zombie apocalypse through scavenging and moral choices, but I think putting players in a server that suits them might solve several problems. Additionally once a player creates a character in a server type, that character is locked to that server type so they can't just go gear up and troll the other servers.
  18. Something that I don't remember seeing in any of the mods was a bush plane on pontoons capable of landing on water. Forgive me if it does exist and I missed it but the concept seems like it would fit. There a ton of hunting guides in Alaska that use these aircraft and it seems conceivable that one of these planes could make the trip over from Alaska for use alo g the coast line. Furthermore these guides are known for carrying a few types of firearms including short barreled lever-action rifles chambered to 45-70 known as "guide guns" and large bore revolvers such as .500 and even 45-70 in some cases to protect themselves from bears. My thought was one of these planes spawning per server with a guide gun and revolver in the gear.

Bush-Plane on pontoons and guide gear.

I know a lot of the planes spawn broken and needing parts, it would just be nice if they had a map or GPS as well because I know those are both incredibly useful to have around. Even if you don't fly away you can at least walk away with something helpful. I love the survival element of this game and would just love to see more of taking whats useful from anything you can find.

Bush-Plane on pontoons and guide gear.

One other thing I would like to see with aircraft, they should ALWAYS spawn with at least a map and compas or a GPS in their gear.

    Nonlethal shotgun ammo-Rock salt

There's no doubt rock salt would hurt but its not going to render a person incapacitated. Furthermore in most cases the shot is finer than bird-shot which means outside a range of ten yards it could be heavily mitigated by a sweatsheet and jeans. I'm fairly certain other than point-blank blasting somebody in the mouth with rocksalt that its designed to scare people off instead of incapacitating them. I don't want you to think I'm blatantly flaming your post, deadman, I just disagree with the power behind rocksalt.

    Nonlethal shotgun ammo-Rock salt

One problem I see is that it would still sound like a gunshot even though its non-lethal. While you might be trying to take the high road in not killing a player, if you start shooting at someone with anything I would assume most people would reciprocate with firing of their own at which point you're stuck trying to season them to death. Even though it's slightly unrelated I would think pepper spray would be a good choice for non-lethal incapacitation. It would simply blur a players vision for four or five minutes.

Locked Buildings, More Junk Loot, and Cholera

Crowbars for locked cabinets and such would be alright. The possibility of using a hammer to melee it open at the cost of damaging what is inside would be interesting. I'd love to see pad-locks and bolt cutters implemented as well. Please for the love of god, no lock picks though. It still takes professional locksmiths a considerable amount of time to pick a lock under ideal circumstances, I don't know why but the myth of people walking up and James Bonding a lock open with a hairclip and a cheesy grin in under three seconds gets under my skin.

    Women who "Want More"

I think you should be able to skin rabbits to make your own Uggs. Zombies hate Uggs.
