So I was just on a thread related to food when I got the notion of taking several fruits of the same kind and combining them with a jar and boiling water near a fire to make fruit preserves. This would take several inventory-slots worth of fruit and combining them into one slot similar to canned food that can be used several times (75%, 50%, 25%) and also not require a can opener.
-
Actually I really should have elaborated. I remember at one point walking through what looked like some type of orchard close to the shore. I had this thought of fruit growing on trees but then I thought about how nice it would be if a player could take five apples and combine them with a jar to make canned apples. I would really love to be able to play this game without ever needing to step foot in a city to scavenge for cans of food and other various supplies. I would love the ability to become completely self-sustaining once you pick up a few key peices of equipment.
-
In all fairness, so should treating a gunshot wound but some things need to be expedited for gameplay simplicity. I do get your point though.
-
At one point I recall walking through something that lookes very much lime an orchard in an area near the coast. Seeing some type of fruit growing off trees would seem to make sense to me, though I'm not sure what kinds of fruit trees can grow in that area of the world.

Dayz is set in the area of Ukraine/Russia. Its a half-day drive from Czech Republic. I see Czech weapons as being plausible.
-
I'm not implying that a player will be traveling anywhere, or that some mysterious Frenchman is going to bless.you with a crate of weapons. Theres a saying I've heard a few times that in true times of need precious metals will he brass and lead. That being said in a post apocalyptic world I think its fair to say that weapons and bullets would be a very profitable thing to trade. On top of that do you not think people will be travelling around looking for safety? A car ride of several hours really isn't a difficult explanation for Czech weapons existing in the Ukrainian region.
-
Non-lethal weapons would be great. I thought pepper spray would be fairly simple and really effective. Simply spray someone and it causes them to caugh and groan and blurs their vision for four or five minutes. This would be really effective if you had someone you thought was going to be hostile but didn't want to kill, or if you simply want them to be incapacitated long enough for you to get away.

This is what makes Dayz unique. You have no idea who is friendly and who isn't. If you see an armed player you should never just hope for the best and strike up a conversation with them. It sounds melodramatic but before doing anything in this game you should stop and ask yourself if you would do it in real life. That is what Dayz is and should be. The only thing that has missed its mark or become "what should have been" is your perception of the game going in. And not that I'm offended, but In general saying "Sorry if this offends" or "don't take this the wrong way..." isn't a get out of jail free card for saying whatever the hell you want to afterwards. Regardless of those introductions your audience will still have their own thoughts or opinions afterwards.

I just wrote out like three paragraphs stating my deep resentful hatred for everything about this idea but decided it would simply sound like nagging so I'll keep it short. No. Hell no. Absolutely not. Adding torture would'nt add any thing close to an element of horror, it would simply cheapen a wonderful concept and make it more desirable to windowlickers and mouthbreathers. Additionally, it makes me sad, truly sad, that people should consider garbage like "Saw" horror. It's like claiming a McDouble is fine cousine.

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
Thirdthorpe replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
I'm for the change. The cities should be swarming with zombies so that if a player decides to go into a city they should really stop and consider if its worth the risk of the zombies. A problem with the mod was that loot, while being time consuming to gather sometimes, was never really difficult to get your hands on. If medical equipment from the hospital becomes more rare because the cities can actually kill you then it forces players to interact with each other in the form of trading, robbing, murdering, ect ect which is what this game is really all about -
Actually if you think about it, a weapon that only holds five rounds or so may be slightly advantageous in a gunfight. If you get into a fight with a dude carrying an M4 and you have a Mosin and you play smart, if you can get him to blow through his mags then he's boned because he would have a monster of a reloading time. If you blow through all five round its a matter of getting behind a tree and in less than ten seconds you could be chambered and ready to split some wigs. Meanwhile he's hunkered down for over a minute stuffing bullets back into his magazine. Obviously it would only make sense that you could cancel the loading action at any point if you needed to but generally speaking high capacity weapons don't do a truckload of damage per shot, while low capacity weapons have much higher damage per round. So even if our player got 15 rounds back into his M4 he's at a bit of a disadvantage because those fifteen rounds he got into his weapon provide FAR less stopping power than the 5 our player with the Mosin just reloaded. I think this would be a terrific way to balance some of the high capacity military weapons against low capacity, higher damage civilian weapons.

The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)

So, call me old fashioned...but can I just recommend some more Cz hunting rifles? Not sure if Cz makes a rifle chambered to 7.62x54. I know that round is roughly equivalent to .308 but seeing as I'm just an ignorant American I have no idea if .308 is a common round in that area of the world. Also seeing how they added .22LR's I would love to see a CZ 452 ultra-lux which is just a super accurate bolt action .22 with a ridiculously long barrel. (28") -
Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)

Did somebody say "Man Sandwich"? I mean, uh....yeah. I agree. About the agro and AI. And stuff. (On a serious note I wouldn't mind seeing something from the dev's about what exactly they have planned for the zombies, if anything else.) -
going prone and using the backpack as a firing base seems totally logical in my book. Beans.
-
One other benefit that just occurred to me...This would be a great handicap to the high capacity magazines floating around out there for the AR's. You have two 40 round magazines for your M4, great. Better make sure they're loaded and ready to go before you need them because you're looking at roughly 80-90 seconds to completely reload each of those things.

Common sense? Check. Direct and to the point? Check. Explained in a logical mature manner? Check. TAKE DEM' BEANS!!!

So I've noticed that when players need gear they either go to the cities or go to the airfields. Chernarus is a big beautiful map full of 90% rural areas so I was trying to think of ways that could make players enjoy the farmland experience as much as those big city lights. What I had in mind ran along the lines that most farmers in real life are avid hunters and as such would most likely have a good hunting rifle and/or shotgun in their homes. This is apparently true of Chararus due to the fact that there are hunting shacks all over the rural areas. So to jazz up the farmland experience I was thinking about having farmhouses have a strong chance at spawning bolt action hunting rifles, revolvers, or shotguns and ammo. Additionally I was thinking that farmhouses being away from the city would be less likely to be picked over for useful items such as food, drinks, and tools so they could also have a higher chance of spawning these items. As it stands now when I'm running from point A to point B I rarely stop to inspect farmhouses because I know my chances of finding anything other than maybe a damaged shirt are slim.

I just want my shipping container house and a padlock for while I'm not home.

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)

Man, whoever wrote that thread about the scent of blood aggro concept must be a genious as well as a sexual tyranasaurus. Whoever he was. -
No, a couple farmhouses that have been fortified for the prepper locations. Standard farmhouse would just yield hunting/survival gear and tools.
-
In my eyes its not a matter of if they're used by the Russian military. Its simply a matter of a few hundred miles from the Czech Republic to the Charnarus area. Thats a drive of a halfdozen hours. No reason weapons wouldn't cross borders in a post apocalyptic environment like this. God, I can't beleive I'm defending a military weapon in this game...
-
I will take your beans, sir, on the grounds that I love me some beans. I'm actually surprised this thread has been as popular as it has been.
-
Generally I despise all the military gear being implemented but Cz fits in my opinion because they are manufactured in the Czech Republic which is just a hop and a skip away from where Charnarus is supposed to be if I'm not mistaken. I say for that reason alone it makes just as much sense to have a Cz SMG in the game as it does an HK SMG. Just my two cents.
-
Yeah, I was refering more to the farmhouses out by themselves. Imagine a doomsday prepper's house. Thats what I'm thinking.
-
I love the woods and hills most of all, I just wish there were some good loot spawns out there. I rarely, if ever, go to the cities. Its clear that Bohemia put a lot of time and effort into designing them.
