    DayZ map development

if we can drown, why not have scuba gear and have underwater wrecks - collect the bells... a capsized ship with air pockets, sunk submarines, ancient shipwrecks with pottery and cannons that can be lifted (bags+rope+scuba tank air, floats to surface, need to be in boat to take into hands) and fitted to your base, improvised cannon balls and powder would be cool.

    Singleplayer / offline mode?

Sorry to necropost, but where the hell is my LAN server option. Back in the beginning it was promised. I'll give you some reasons why I want to play offline. 1. I want to try things out without having to worry about some dick wasting my time by killing me just as I've finished collecting what I need to do something like cook. 2. Finding ammo and shooting zombies and wildlife can be fun in itself - if I want to play battlefield, I'll load up battlefield. 5. To save me some bandwidth, try being in Australia - with a 50GB quota, move to another city? I live 2k from the center of the biggest city in Australia, am I expected to move to another country? 6. There are no empty hardcore servers - its Tuesday night and every experimental server has players on it (while there up) even the US ones when they should be quiet) So tell me why there is a LAN tab in the connections window if an offline mode was never meant to be part of the game?
  3. Simple batch file/script I wrote to present session history in order. Copy to a text file, save as DayZHistory.bat or whatever.bat and run it. While playing, it will present your server session connection history in order. You can change the TIMEOUT value to anything you like, 120 seconds may be more appropriate.Hope this helps...

    Admins kick to kill you

Either way, there is a problem. PlayerA logs into server and gets kicked, admin/admins mate, kills and loots PlayerA during their 'logoff timer' Players A,B and C log into server and admin/admins mate are having fun, but then stop having fun, blocked in/trapped, admin combat logs themselves by kicking, preventing playersABC from getting their loot. It seems the power is in the hands of the admins. I generally tend to avoid 'clan' servers.

    Admins kick to kill you

So, I can run my own server, wait for people to join, then just kick, kill and loot them? sweet!

How to know which servers to avoid?

I've had this happen to me, at least three times. The way I've experienced the problem, is when logging into servers and the servers failing to complete the login process, it just hanging on the logging in window, after about two minutes, you give up and dc from the server, log into another one, and your characters reset. It happened to me twice on the same server. having said that, I think they fixed the problem, because now, when I connect to a server that fails to complete login, I get disconnected from the server rather than me having to dc with the button

    Castles no more?

I found nothing but zombies, lots of zombies, more than I find at airfields. Thankfully all I have to do is run down hill and they kill themselves leaping after me.

    Know Your Server Session History

I tried using code brackets, it indents it nice, but adds horible syntax highlighting. It also removed any whitespace/cr and added code:auto=0 to it after editing it again. I tried code:dos, didn't fix the broken highlighting though.

    Know Your Server Session History

If it were in ksh, which I originally wrote it in, its a simple 'sleep 5' but in dos, I dont know of any other way to sleep the loop.there is probably a better way in Power Shell, I just thought it would be easier to do in a vanilla DOS, in case people didn't have powershell installed. Having said that, you could change the number of seconds between tests to whatever you think appropriate, pick a number below the wait time between connecting to a new server, 120 seconds could work fine I guess.

Add server to favourites when in server

This in one of many frustrating things.... Temp Solution: Open the following file with a text editor like notepad. C:\Users\YourName\Documents\DayZ\YourName.DayZProfile or %HOMEDRIVE%\%HOMEPATH%\Documents\DayZ\%USERNAME%.DayZProfile line ~437 shows the IP of the lastMPServer for direct connection, the next line shows LastMPServerName, so you can pick it from your history list. I wrote a dayzhistory.bat dos script as follows... lists the hosts connected to while playing... alt-tab and you get the list... @echo off setlocal set FileName=%HOMEDRIVE%\%HOMEPATH%\Documents\DayZ\%USERNAME%.DayZProfile set FileTime="-" :loop for %%X in (%FileName%) do ( if %FileTime% NEQ "%%~tX" ( type %FileName% | find "lastMPServer" ) set FileTime="%%~tX" ) rem wait 5 seconds before checking again ping -n 6 localhost >nul 2>nul goto :loop
  16. Nothing to lose: #1 say hello #2 say hello #3 avoid Fitted out: #1 say hello #2 avoid #3 avoid or kill http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/187439-day-of-exceptions/ I find that my play style changes based on how much effort I've had to put into the character... If I've spend hours looting and avoiding being shot at, I don't really want to play that much if I've recently been killed, then I don't care, I'll raise my hands and say hello and perhaps make a new friend. Once they add persistent storage, my game will get a whole lot more fun.
  17. They should just fix the zombies already! Spawning them 1 foot in the air so they have to drop onto the ground would help with 50% of the issues.

    sound on doors variation

There are issues related to applying sounds to doors so I've read, I think it would be great if we could kick down doors, but I'm dreaming... Simple lite solution.... Open/close door with item in hand, door makes noise. Open/close door with empty hand, door does not make noise.

    Zombies make more noise

I'm tired of silent zombies clipping through walls and attacking me. Until they fix zombies being able to walk through walls, the zombies need to make a lot more noise, footsteps, moaning, just something so I know something is coming up behind me even though I'm watching the only entrance to the area.

    Day of exceptions...

Today has been the best and strangest day I've had on DayZ SA so far. My plan was the usual, loot the ship, head to the NEAF and hope for something nice, but as expected, the whole place was cleaned out. I decided to call it a day, and wait till the wee hours and find a quiet server. Being careful, I headed out to find a safeish place to logoff... Its funny and scary, when you think your alone, far away from the action, and you suddenly hear someone popping a can of Pepsi... I say over voip, "Hey, hows it going?", hoping that the next thing I hear isn't a gunshot... "Don't shoot, I'm cool" came the reply. Now I've heard this before, and I've come a cropper after trusting people saying words to this effect, but, I wasn't that geared up, so what the hell, lets just see how this pans out. "Just come out without a gun in your hand and I won't shoot" I respond. He didn't have two primary weapons, just a Mosin on his back, and he came out with his hands up, I'm a 'lone wolf', so this is a first for me, I'm usually on the other end. He explains to me that he was on the way to the airfield and that if I needed anything, he has some spares. He shared his beans with me, and we chatted a bit about DayZ. I decided, that again, I don't have a lot to lose... "I'll take point, lets head back to the airfield and through to the NE city, if someone takes me out, you can get them with that mosin". About half way, it became so frustrating - communicating over the in game voip, that he suggested that we start a Steam chat, I've never used the steam chat and he didn't have TS, but we both had Skype, an invite later and we were communicating out of game. After an easy loot run, we headed down south, his mate was finishing work in an hour, and they'd already planned to play for a few hours. I had some other things to do, I'd been on longer than I anticipated already, so we both logged off and agreed to catch up later. A few hours later, I get a message on Skype, his mate was ready to play and would I like to jump on with them, I'll see you in a few minutes I respond. His mate had been killed last time he was on, so first we had to meet up. We were down south, and he spawned in the NE city, we met up at the shipwreck. "Lets head to the NEAF" I suggest, "perhaps there will be something left". About 300m out from the AF, the server resets... OMG! We might actually get some loots! We all load up the server IP and spam connect, we are the first ones on, we rush to the airfield paying attention to the player list, by the time we get there, there's already 10 people on the server, ignoring the zombies, I make it to the door on the top floor of the prison... ching ching, another player is spawing right next to me.... "Please don't shoot, Please don't shoot" I hear him say, he knows he's helpless - Should I kill him? "don't get a gun out and we are cool" I say, "I have two friends behind me, if you shoot, so will they" He doesn't, and he seems friendly at this point. he says he's just after SKS ammo, I just happened to have some, so I drop it on the floor. The prison loot is ordinary, I grab a pistol clip and and we move on to the tower, all four of us. The new guy appears a bit trigger happy, another player appears from the west end, searching the hangers..."I can kill him, I can kill him" the new guy says. "Just keep me covered" I say "I'm going to see if this guys cool"... I head to the hanger, 5 of 12 players on the server are now apparently at the NEAF. Again, this guy is cool, and we head back to the tower, not a single shot is fired, and many beans are shared. There are two guys heading this way from the south someone says, again, I take point, rush down and make contact, we now have 7 people out of 12 players, and still not a shot fired. One more player logs in, and rushes out of the prison next to the tower, I can only imagine what went through his mind, 3 people were running around just outside fanatically killing zombies with axes and 4 people were milling around in the tower. More beans were shared. Four of the guys get bored and take off together, heading west, our plan was to head NE then south. The first guy we found starts talking about shooting the group that split off, "I really want to just shoot someone" he says... At this point, we decided to bug out, there was some discussion on if we should take this guy out, just in case, but we just left him while he was double checking the prison at the other end of the AF. We found a nice place to logoff, and agreed to do it again soon. Did I win DayZ? It kind of feels like it.

    The Battle Rifle Thread!

What would make sense, is that 99% of all the weapons found were Russian weapons. The reason there are so many weapon types is not because we need so many types, its because each state produces their weapons locally. Perhaps if DayZ had a Russian map, a US map, a UK map, and Australian map, a China map.... I find it funny that we find UK army clothing in a Russian base, I haven't read any of the lore on DayZ, all I know is that the survivors are immune to whatever it is thats made everyone else a zombie, don't really need to know anything else... but why I can find anything other than Russian loot I don't know.... perhaps have the odd expats house contain some other states weapons, but 99% of the time it should be locale centric - and really, do we need 10 different hand guns? I just want to be able to hold one in each hand, else I'll just pick the gun that does the most damage.
  22. I've put in over 100 hours into DayZ and I'm very very supprised at the amount of data being transfered from DayZ servers. Since starting to play DayZ, my daily usage has gone from <1G per day to between 2 and 4GB per day. Considering that I've been playing Eve Online and BF2 and managing to stay under 1GB per day, and now I've started playing DayZ SA and I'm up to 4GB per day... WTF is going on with DayZ! Why does it need to transfer so much data? With Eve Online, there can be 1000's of people in system, 100's of people shooting 1000's of weapons at the same time. BF2 has 32 players all on a small map with projectiles and aircraft and that doesnt require GBs of data to be transfered. But when I play on a low population (<10 players) DayZ server, my usage blows out by GB! There is seriously something wrong here, there is really no justification requiring so much data to be transfered. Are there any technical reasons for all this data? Are our systems being used to provide feedback? Is this what to expect in the long term? Getting a bit pissed off with it actually, I only have a 50GB quota per month, its only the 17th and I'm already up to 37GB, the vast majority being DayZ's data.

Why does DayZ SA require so much data?

I guess you haven't played project reality mod for BF2, the graphics are just as good as DayZ SA. If everything is running server side, then logically, the traffic to the client should be less download, and more upload. But this isn't the case. I think it would use less bandwidth to play over a citrix client, its like its streaming the the game as video rather than compressed data. I just don't get it. Are all the actions of all the players regardless of the location being pushed to all clients? Are all the materials for all the objects being downloaded again and again each time they are happened across? Why does it take MBs of information to relay an items damage state? Its just crazy, I'm getting the impression the DayZ team are a bunch of amateurs who can afford all the cool toys but just don't know how to get the best out of them - ooooh, ragdoll physics, lets get that, we can add bouncing boobs and wavy hair! I'm thinking perhaps they should just start again, considering the amount of money they have raked in, they can afford to do it properly.
