Of course you can kill other player with it, but the usage is limited. You can't use it for short distances because the reload time is too long. You need accurate aiming and patience. If you miss, you won't get another chance once your target runs in circles. Otherwise, it is a good hunting rifle. If you hit, it kills. Personally I prefer the SKS, although I used to use a Mosin for almost the complete last year.

If you want survival, but are patient enough to wait for more content and functions in being implemented, you should really consider SA. It still has a long road to go. Arma 2 by now is only good for the mod in my opinion, but others might correct me. The graphics are outdated, the movement feels slow. The mod variants are good, but not the best. One has to be fair, it is an outdated engine. Arma 3 is a good combat simulation, but not more. If you like combat, you should consider this one, although the maps are barren. Altis life is a fresh attempt, but not really a killer argument. Breaking point seems to be a project born of frustration over SA. The mod for Arma 2 is better, except for graphics. I own all three and they all have fun aspects. Sometimes there is a discount for Arma 2 and 3. Try to grab them when they are reduced in price.

I wouldn't say that 3pp is easier or for idiots. I mostly play 3pp because of my friends, but I prefer 1pp. This is because the whole aiming and shooting is more precise in 1pp. Fighting an infected in 3pp is a pain in the ass. The Arma1 textures you see, could most probably be a result of your pc being unable to load the textures needed in time. How much RAM do you have? What kind of hard disk (RPM for example)? How full is it?

It is okay. I have a FX-8320. Given the bad multi core support, it should run the same on your cpu as on mine. It is acceptable when playing on moderate settings, but don't expect too much. At this state you cannot compare DayZ to any other "complete" game. Your graphics card is better. I have a R9 270x Toxic. My FPS are between 15 - 50, depending on where I am in the game.

I think there is a safety in place. In case your connection does get lost, your character is immediately removed from the game. I experienced it once with a friends when his pc froze up. But it does not happen every time.
