"Understanding Realism in Computer Games through Phenomenology" (DayZ discussion).
hleVqq replied to scriptfactory's topic in General Discussion
I am pretty damn sure that IRL I can't peek over a wall without actually doing so. Not without a periscope, anyway. This makes it as unrealistic as it gets, and whatever "realistic aspects" 3PP throws at us cannot counter that. Anyway, zig-zagging during combat is bullshit. Add inertia. Slow players down. Make them run to cover. -
[Proper Names 101] Quonset Hut vs Officer Tent
hleVqq replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
It doesn't make sense, but I call it The Bunker, lol. -
So is there any workaround for the client performance nowdays?
hleVqq replied to haxborn's topic in General Discussion
Perhaps he meant the clock speed? It's still not shit, though, but you might as well OC it since it's a K chip. -
Being able to switch through hotkeys with 2 primary weapons
hleVqq replied to KandyCid's topic in Suggestions
Dropping your gun when you have to free your arms (like when climbing a ladder) or picking something else makes sense and is fine. However you should be able to use the hotkey to pick a primary weapon while holding another primary weapon. That way the weapons would just switch places. I believe it works that way if you drag a primary weapon in your hands that are equiped with another primary weapon, but not when using the hotkey. Unless something changed, haven't played in a while. -
That would be nice. We need as much different kinds of places in DayZ map as we can possibly get.

.58 experimental is quite good right now, with working persistence, vehicle part mechanics, dynamic helicrash/copcar spawns and whatnot. Add loads of zombies while maintaining server performance for a stable release and DayZ should get back on track somewhat.

Either tactical vests or plate carriers. Not sure which of the two is better, but I believe anti-stab and press vests provide less protection while high capacity and smersh provide none (at least not any more than simply an additional clothes layer).

TIL that DayZ runs much smoother on Windows 10.
hleVqq replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
So DayZ runs better on Win10 than on Win7, not a surprise. The question is if it runs better than on Win8.1 (which is as well more efficient at resource usage than Win7). -
Female DayZ players, lets talk and ask questions.
hleVqq replied to KatieKillz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I forced the only female player I met to put on a tanker helmet that I gave her and then tested its protection effectiveness by shooting a bullet to her head from 2 meters away using a pistol (it was either a FNX or a CR75). She lived so I bandaged her, gave her some food and left. Would've done the same with a male player, so I guess the conclusion is that the gender doesn't really matter to me. -
You can no longer repair such things as helmets and vests. Duct tape might still work to get them to Damaged quality, though haven't tested.

Upgrading my rig with DayZ in mind - AMD or Intel?
hleVqq replied to ZomboWTF's topic in New Player Discussion
Here is some info which may or may not help you: SSD had little impact for my DayZ experience (coming from 5200 RPM HDD), I believe the world loads a little faster but that's it. You should have 8GB RAM. 4GB is too little and I have friends experiencing issues with 6GB (though have not confirmed it's completely due to lack of RAM). I have an outdated GPU (Radeon 6870 OC) and because of that lowering settings actually benefits me. The CPU is i5-2500 non-K at 3.4GHz, by the way. Can't OC it to get some higher frames. After playing with the configs a little I don't see my frames go below 30 all too often, even in cities. -
How about one of the future stable releases featuring 1PP only until the next stable? That way people could give 1PP a try, get used to it more and perhaps start to prefer it over 3PP (which is what happened to many people who gave 1PP a try)? 3PP players who dislike 1PP would not abandon the game (might temporarily stop playing, though) knowing that 3PP will return. Now this is not about who prefers what and what is better, we have plenty of those topics. This is in effort to increase 1PP community so that 1PP players could enjoy the game without being left in empty servers and thus having an urge to complain about the existence of 3PP and its community. I greatly believe that 1PP would be liked by more people if more people gave it a serious try instead of going the easier route and sticking to that (3PP). Alpha is, as you know it, a good time for experimenting.
-
↑ Seems like you completely missed the reason why I suggested forcing 1PP in the first place. Feel free to (re-)read the original post. Or I'll just give you a hint: population issues.
-
What's the point of playing a zombie survival game where you can see zombies but they can't see you?
-
Oh, okay. Was nice talking to you.
-
It may not be the nicest way, but how else does one make people try 1PP, which has few servers with few people, out? I believe this is the least devs could do for the dying 1PP community, considering this is an alpha and a perfect time for experimenting. Alpha is for us to test, remember? Having your prefered view temporary restricted will help you with exactly that: testing and trying 1PP out. There are not enough 1PP testers! lol
-
Not if people don't even give 1PP a try due to 3PP having most of the population. If I honestly believed that people prefer 3PP over 1PP for valid reasons that involve actually having given 1PP a serious try, I wouldn't have made this thread in the first place. Posts where people claim that they gave 1PP a try and it's now their favorite thing and how 3PP is below it pop up once in a while, so that's an indication. Don't force 1PP permanently. Force it for a temporary period of time so people would actually give 1PP a serious try and then decide what they prefer more. Like stated in the original post, this is in attempt to increase the 1PP population so that we wouldn't need people complaining about 3PP and how it screws 1PP population (and thus 1PP players' experience). You can enjoy doing unrealistic things (seeing yourself from behind, peeking behind walls) in a survival game that seeks realism all you want, but surely I can point out that 1PP is also good in attempt to get some more people to play it so we wouldn't have half empty servers?
-
Casuals want to see their character Noobs want to abuse 3PP 0.0001% become nauseous when in 1PP All this added up makes most of the community, while actually hardcore players who are here to experience immersive survival instead of admiring their character gear from behind or standing behind a wall/on a roof for hours are left to suffer the emptiness of the servers they play in.
-
While the game is in alpha and has plenty bugs, I wouldn't mind being able to have some debug info like this. Perhaps toggleable via a specific launch parameter.
-
Yes it is by leaps and bounds more realistic than 3PP, even if peripheral vision is lost in 1PP.
-
It's not "real human vision", it's just view that's seen through your character's eyes (not your own, obviously, as you are looking at the monitor), as opposed to a view from someone behind and above you. Naturally seeing the view through your character's eyes is way more realistic and immersive.
-
No, it is a perfect argument. Using 3PP to make up for situational awareness that's lost with 1PP loses, well, 1PP. You sacrifice one for another. That's not the way it should be. You don't replace a realistic feature with an unrealistic one so that things would look more real, because they no longer look more real due to the realistic feature being replaced in the first place. It should be 1PP. Whatever's lost should be made up using other means, or not at all.
-
The fact that you play the game the way you do does not remove the problem with 3rd person view. It's unrealistic. It's abusable. It's not what the devs seek. Be glad that 3rd person is still left as an option, knowing that DayZ strives for survival realism and 3rd person camera certainly does not add to that. Oh and if you disregard the bullshit that is 3rd person only due to the fact that it allows you to see your character, then you're a casual and your opinion shouldn't be considered in the first place. You can't see yourself from a 3rd person perspective IRL. Why would you in a game that strives for realism?
-
There should be software for that. Have you tried Google? I believe MSI Afterburner can do that.
-
As it's a dual GPU card, you may try to disable one of the GPUs and see if that brings any improvement.
