Did you check the server time before picking one?

Dayz Anti-Game philosophy, is this still relevant and true?
lastdog replied to ProGamerGov's topic in General Discussion
I belive i lost myself in that one, youre right its fiction. its still a good book, and for thoes who like to read, there it is. but the main point was its wrong to say that a specific group would be KOS'ers. thats kinda messed up really lol. -
Every single experimental server ive gone too has been looted already.

it could just be a poor oversight, or any other idea. but if it's part of testing, good on them. ya know? -

i remember somewhere reading, i think it was dean, saying that he was going to try and do bold things that might not work, so that they could draw the line on what not to cross. perhaps the lack of additional servers so that there is ample enough loot for all, is part of this idea? force everyone into a smaller working space. you wouldnt be able to play on a near empty server. you would have to take risks to go where other players might be in order to find loot.. maybe? -
The only other input you have added to this matter. Aside from the sarcasm, you state that the OP, being abused, is becoming an abuser. lets look at that... "We are sick and tired of server hoppers, hackers, idiots." who isnt sick of server hoppers and hackers? tell me you wouldnt rather a DayZ that was free of those things. weather or not it can be done, im sure you would rather not play with hackers. lets not worrie about server hoppers so much, because we can get into an entire discussion of weather or not its game breaking. furthermore, on the "Idiots" section of this, i dont know the OP's intent or definition, but to me, i would take it to mean server hoppers, hackers, glitchers and whatnot. so whatever. im sure the OP could care less about some one who just bought the game playing on his server. "We want private servers and hives, so we can play competitive in teams, so we don't have to deal with idiots." Breaking this down, we see the OP doesnt want to play with "idiots" which has been established as meaning hackers and such for this discussion. He would like the ability to have private servers. hives too, but weather or not you can get both, i highly doubt, perhaps if you owned two servers you could have them connected, sure why not. he also wants to be able to play in competitive teams. would that make the game more like other games? yes. does his wish mean that it will happen? no. can he wish for it anyway? hell yeah he can. i think it would be a cool SIDE feature. perhaps a mod later down the road. i remember back when FPS's spawned everyone with the same basic weapon and you had to go find the better ones. imagin that kind of game, but starting with NO weapon, and having to find everything before going up against the other team. it could be cool. but lets focus on Day Z first. still, i think its a cool idea Greg. Private servers? well, i could see how it could be something a player might want. i mean, if you pay for the server, why cant you use the server in the way you want? the game isnt at that stage right now, but is this really a criminal desire? no. looking at some of the responses, many people are against the private server idea because they dont want a player to be able to gear up in a server where they wouldnt have to deal with other players, before hopping on and killing everyone they see. it wasnt mentioned in the original post, but the OP does later on state that he wouldnt want to be able to do that, and that gear you equip from the private server should be serperate from the gear you have on other servers(its own hive) BAM, problem solved. now i realize that some of these things may have other factors in play, factors that i know nothing about because ive never made a game. but they are no reason to smash him for them. FINALLY, as was mentioned in the first post. The OP was WRONG about how he practicly demanded this. Theres no real excuse for this. he is wrong for calling people retarded and any other retaliation he did to the other posters. lets look from his perspective though, he was defending himself. this will ofcourse result in further bashing by others, and then he will defend some more. its a never ending cycle. which is why i decided to make my first post, and call a truce, to which he quoted and said "^this" which i can only assume to mean that he agreed to it, and was in a way appologizing(its not easy to suddenly agree that you had a part to play and say sorry, so i applaud him for that). to have posters continue to attack his earlyer posts, while offensive as they where, is not the right thing to do here people. Forgive and forget, move on. id like to think that we are all still people here and we can come to gether and communicate. maybe in this way, his group will stop hunting bambies and we can all get along a little better ingame and out.

a 12 year old when she was five? lol. no, i write like i care.

@Greg, you did a very good thing in response to my prior post. dont let these people get to you and pull you back down. @ everyone else who has posted since my last post, and has continued with the arguing.... STOP. GO BACK, and read my post. youve either missed it, or ignored it. i made an attempt to keep the peace. i read all the posts and made educated determinations on the subject. by ignoring it, or not reading it, you are spitting in the peace treaty face. its kind of silly that it comes to this, but sometimes we lose track of whats going on and the internet becomes a really stupid free for all type deal. quick recap was basicly this: the overall "What" he wants is a valid desire. HOW he went about asking for it was overall wrong, and he admited to that. stop beating him up over crap, cause your being the bad guys.

i gota go off topic and stop you on this one. singling out people who you know nothing about and judging people baised on sterotypes isnt right. also, should something Dayz like happen, your giving people bad advice. "rednecks" are not all bad. i only know a few as ive spent most of my life in decent sized citys, but thoes i have known are good people. the people who would be dicks in the US would most likly be gang members and other current criminals, however, the events could change the minds of men, and thoes guys could end up being perfectly nice people, while normal people could be the ones you want to watch out for. the second thing i would like to mention, is that you REALLY need to read "how to survive a zombie appocolyps". the opening chapters explain exactly what a zombie is, and what makes them. the virus that infects someone slowly works its way to the brain, and after multiplying to the point that it basicly kills you like a clot in your brain, it takes over your body. for reasons not quite fully known (at least to me, i think its some sort of slight chemical change) any of the normal decaying factors, such as bacteria and scavenger animals do not go after the infected flesh, resulting in a long "life" span for zombies. zombies dont actualy "need" to eat, they just WANT to eat. the book explains that several zombie corpes were examined. the food basicly just piles up in the gut, and no digestion happens at all. these zombies are differnt from walking dead zombies, but you mentioned the same thing. also one of the key differences would be that the virus wouldnt be in the living humans, waiting to react whenever the host dies. this fact alone is key in insuring that humanity can return to normal after the event is over. otherwise even after clearing the entire world of zombies, you would be at constant risk of someone dieing and turning. granted, you could have preperation for that, but still. -
acekaze, isnt the SA and ArmaIII two compleetly differnt games? yeah, night is really dark in this game, but i think we forget how dark night can be with ZERO lights on. that said, shame for cheating. its possible that he was at a lower posistion and could see you over the tree line or something... who knows.

Punishment for playing a game youre too young for < Punishment for whatever you call cybersex with a minor also i think as long as parents are ok with it, you can play games that your not old enough for. do i agree with it? hell no. but i am just one man.... -

Fact: some kids sound older than they are. Fact: Cyber sex with anyone under age, regardless of how old they sound, or how mature they act, is not a good idea. tread lightly... i for one am against this, as others could easily have over heard. as they say in T.V. "GET A ROOM" -
Is anyone tired of this game because of KOS?
lastdog replied to gotr1ght's topic in General Discussion
Im going to do something crazy here, but try to stay with me. i dont think KOS is part of the game. here is why. for the first time yesterday, i ran into someone while we were both armed who didnt kill me before i saw them. this happened one after another (2 times total) on the NWAF. me and a friend were looting together, and had slowly been making our way there for days, as opposed to just running up there. we had no intention of killing everything we see, but we were scared if someone elese would do the same. the first person practicly spawned on me, and for a bit i thought he was my friend. he had hit me a few times with his fist or something, and because of this i drew my Axe thinking there was a zombie near me. i tried to make contact, and paniced for my life, so i hit him about 5-6 times. then, before i killed him, i ran. i didnt KOS, but attacked out of fear that i didnt know who he was. shortly after, me and my friend ran into one of the hangers. he must have thought i was ahead of him, because he walked right up next to another player with an M4. i already had my weapon out, and was about to start typing to the player, when he reached for his M4. as he was looking right at me, we made the decision to protect ourselves, and attacked back. neither situation had a KOS mentality. both of them where "Kill on judgment" or KOJ. this game needs KOJ. you can kill because your about to be robbed, you want the medical supplies that someone just took. ext. the problem is, KOJ and KOS are divided by a very thin line. -
Lets all take a deep breath and calm down here. for just a second. What the OP wants (at least some of what he wants) is actually quite reasonable. For the most part he wants the server he pays for to be private (he is paying for it). He wants it to be private not so he can get loot and join another server to kill people, but so that he can avoid hackers or other forms of cheaters. I think everyone on both sides of the argument can agree that they want to avoid those people too. other aspects of what he wants, fall into the realm of ideas which some people will want, and others will not. this being "Team deathmatch style games". If i had to guess i would think many people would say no to this idea, however i personaly think if you shrunk the map to the size of a town, and pitted 5 new spawns with no gear on 5 other new spawns with no gear, or any other number of players or even FFA.... i think this could be fun too. however, as its an alpha, i think we will be waiting awhile to see this. so having established what the OP wants being "mostly" a common desire, the way about which he has expressed this is wrong. he could have left out the entire banditry and hero killing. also his responses to many of the posters were rude, most likely in retailiation though. The OP's first post had many of us thinking "what a jerk" but thats mostly due to the means by which he expressed himself, his following comments are a result of how we attacked his idea. I think we could all take a moment, reasses the situation, and come together on this one. dude really just hates the hackers. (yes its an alpha, but that doesnt mean we cant hate hackers lol)

Background: i had already decided that i wanted to randomly come accross other players and see if i would be lucky and find someone peacfull, or if i would be KOSed again. due to the risks i knew i would face, i logged onto a hardcore server as i was a fairly fresh spawn. the only thing i had done was run around my spawn area a bit and logg off a few times when i accidently joined the wrong server, so i considered this to be a fresh start, just with even less food. Day one: i spawned on one of the small islands off the coast that had a single house and a boat shead, and started to run north once i got to the road. looting a few of the larger houses in Kamyshovo, i found a biker helmet; a soda; and a can of food i couldnt open. i drank the soda and continued north. i then stopped to loot a few of the buildings in Krutoy Cape, and found a hack saw and some tuna. eating the tuna, i kept the saw for when i would need to open any other cans. i was going open my remaining can and drop it, but i decided to hold onto it in the off chance i found a shotgun. i drank some water from a standing pond and continued on my way. East of three Vallys (a small collection of homes just south of Solnichniy) is where things got interesting. the first thing i saw was a Zombie, maybe a hundred yards south of the "village" standing in space swinging at something i couldnt see. i called out, thinking maybe there was an invisable player there. after 10 seconds i decided it was bugged out, and killed the zombie. as soon as i got into the center of the collection of buildings, i saw a man run up, and a zombie run after him. as the player wasnt carrying anything, i figgured it was a new spawn, and decided to take my chances. i engaged the zombie, trying carefully not to hit the other player. he then noticed the zombie and also started attacking. this is where i learned that hacksaws, are awefull against zombies. my screen lost alot of color, but wearing the biker helmet kept me from bleeding. the other guy however, started bleeding... alot. i (having to type because i cant get my mic to work on DayZ) shouted out to run. he ran into the building, so i followed, knowing full well that the zombie was going to glitch into the house. a quick search around i saw a red childs backpack, and i thought i picked it up. as the zombie (and one of his friends) ran into the room, i shouted to run again, and together we took off south along the road. when we got far enough away, i noticed that the zombies were stuck roughly in the same spot as that first one i had seen, swinging in the air at something we couldnt see. i ripped up my shirt and bandaged my new friend, he said thanks, and i opened the canned spaghetti and force fed it to him, dropping the saw. we talked about grouping up, and what we should do now. i said i knew where a small village was that i liked to go to just up the mountain, "Tulga" and we ran up the mountain. about halfway up i realized i didnt have the backpack, and mentioned it to him. he asked if we should go back, but i didnt feel like it was a safe idea, also we didnt have anything to carry in it anyway. i had mentioned this last part to him to reinforce the idea that i have nothing benificaial for him to kill me for lol. i noticed he picked up the saw, which i was fine with, it would be most useful for when we found food. reaching the top of the mountain, i told him that we would run south along the ridge line to find the town. i knew this because i had run from some zombies there once, and learned of my surroundings though the experiance. we looted the homes, not finding much, and sharing what little food and soda we did get. as we searched the last set of houses, (on the other side of the dear stand) i saw him take off into a house along the road, being chased by a zombie. i was going to take off after him, but saw a second zombie coming toward me. with only one house left, i peeled off, and did a quick search before running back to where we had split. he was just reaching that point, i shouted to go back to the road and we took off. with our pockets empty, we ran further inland, along the road heading for the town of "Msta" at the top of the first hill, once we reached the forest line, we decided it was time to retire for the night. we added eachother on steam, and logged off. Day 2: Logging back in, we made contact slightly further up the road, and attempted to get some voice communications set up. his mic worked, and we tested how far the range was, and we were surprised to find how short it was. we decided to connect on skype, and having made proper communications, headded off towards msta. the first building we looted gave us some vitamians; a pistol holster; an Axe; and a baseball bat. properly armed, we searched the rest of the buildings, finding a first aid kit, and more food and drinks. we ate split everything, and i even found a beanie for him. finally we drank our fill at the water pump before heading up the road. as we passed a powerline, we decided to follow it and cut into the woods headed north east, were we found a few houses and a small power station. i traded my biker helmet for a beanie with a pompom on top. heading to a secure area, we decided it was time to log for the night. im unsure what our next plan is, but sofar, even with very little in the way of gear, im having alot of fun surviving with my new friend. i doubt we will be able to survive an encounter with bandits, but we have enough gear to come out on top of any zombies we meet, which is better odds than we started.

oh ok. i wasnt really sure what style i was writing it in. i just figured i would write it i guess. thanks for the tip.

Day 4: Contact! So we logged back on after a day of not playing. we didnt have any idea where we where, so we continued west along the road. to our surprise, the Town we arrived at was Novy Sobor. we had somehow gone WAY past Gorka. Looting both of the Sobor Towns, we now had a Mosin, which could be loaded and used to protect ourselves. we ran up to the air field, and as we did so, i explained the dangers that i had read of on these fourms, never having actually been to the NWAF. the server was only 3 or 4 other players, so i was hopefull we would be safe. to my surrprise, we managed to loot all of the hangers, the control tower, and the first Duty hut we found. (i dont think its right to call it a prision... theres just one jail cell.) while looting the Barracks i found an M4, so i gave him the mosin just before the server went down, so we came back in on a new server, and started looting everything again. i started to have a bit of lag as i ran back into the duty hut, and mistakenly said i was in the ATC tower. forsome reason i confused the two, and he kept saying how he didnt see me, and i figured i was lagging. by this point, we were both wearing PayDay Masks, mine was under the biker helmet, and i found a balistics helm in the cell. taking that i headed upstairs, where i found a a 30 round mag for my M4. i was screwing around trying to get the new mag instead of the 20 round mag. something hit me. i backed up and drew my fire axe expecting to see a zombie. for a second, there was nothing. then out of no where there was a dude standing right where i had been. he looked just like i had looked 3 minutes ago, with a payday mask on under his biker helmet. i thought he was my friend, becuase we both thought we were in the ATC tower. i said "dude, did you pick up my helmet?" he didnt respond so i typed "who are you" but it came out "who are toy". then i noticed the red backpack... my buddys backpack was green... unsure of what to do, and knowing that this guy had just hit me a few seconds ago, and seeing that he hadwhat looked like a mosen (i had just dropped mosen ammo for the mag) i paniced and hit him with my fire axe a few times.. blood was coming out everwhere, but i was still too scared, and as i saw him go for his gun, i ran for the stairs drawing my own. i had forgotten that stairs make you walk down, and my screen grayed once as i booked it out of the building. in my paniced state i ran around the building calling out to my friend. at that point i saw the ATC tower, and realized my mistake in full. as i ran into the woods, i noticed my pursuer wasnt on me, so together we grouped up and tried to find him. my mic doesnt work in the game, so i told my friend to call in. "we have you surrounded, come out with youre hands up". i decided that if we could, we would assist this player, as i might have over reacted. he was probably bleeding and near death, and i could make up for my error. no one came out "ok were comming in" "dont tell him that, then he will expect it!" we went in anyway, but there was no player. unsure of what to do, he thought he sawsomething on the runway, but it was just a walker. he took off down the runway anyway, so i followed him. he ran into one of the hangers, and when i got there i saw the other player right infront of him. my buddy didnt notice it wasnt me, but this player (wearing a balistics helmet and a gas mask) was deffinitly new. it all happened so fast there wasnt anytime for anything. the two of us already had our weapons drawn, and i saw this guy pull out his M4, so i aimed in and held the trigger down. i must have missed because he took off. we both chased him around the back but he was gone. i was scared about what we should do, if we should just leave him be. but my friend reminded me that we wouldnt be safe with him around. i decided to run back away from the hanger a bit... towards the woods. turning around i saw the player. he was crouched behind a pair of bushes so that we couldnt see him from the hanger, and he was looking right at me. i dontremeber if i manged to even aim in let alone shoot, but i went down. frantic that my black screen would become perminent, i called out to my friend. i did the best i could to explain the shooters location. i must have done a good job, because he ran back to the hanger and was promtly shot by the same guy who had now gone prone. luck was on our side though, as i had just then regained conciousness, i could just make out the flashing of his muzzel, so i unloaded. about as my friend went down, i ran out of ammo and started to switch mags. the shooter stood up and backed away from my friend a few feet, and when my gun was loaded, i dropped him. sadly, this victory came at a price. my friend logged out thinking that he could regain his sense by doing so, and he died. as i was picking though the other players gear, i lagged and disconnected, returning to an empty field by the time i could rejoin.

so me and my friend were playing last night. grabbed a gun holster and thought "too bad nothiing can fit in it" then we thought "well, i bet a banana can fit in it, thats the kind of funny little things i bet they put into the game" to my disapointment, we discovered bananas do not fit in gunholsters... :(

Day 3: also known as "the sky is falling" we attempted to log on, and instantly the server went down and took our characters with it. when we logged back in, our spawns had switched, so we met up at the half way point, and did everything we had done the two nights prior all over again. making our way to the factory along the coast, we now had both gotten fire axes, backpacks, biker helmets. we even found a few first aid kits, and some saline bags. we headed back inland and found a town with a police station. he picked up a rifle before the game became too buggy and we had to leave.
-
no mater what would have happened next. that video would have sucked if he hadnt flicked you off, logged, and gotten away.
-
thats the part of this game that makes it not a simulator. you see, in real life, a majority of the psychopaths would have killed each other off early on, and there would be no respawning. you would still have psycos out there, but there would be far less. also, they would start to develop the need for other people to survive, and would start to become powerhungry in the sense that they would want followers to join them. you would effectivly end up with the govener from "The Walking Dead"
-
i can understand the idea behind the soldier zombie being a little more damage resistant(not alot more... body armor does not make you a tank) but otherwise... the dead are dead, they dont get stronger, they slowly get weaker due to the inability to repair damaged muscle tissue. the only strength they gain is due to the mind nolonger preventing the body from preforming things at maximum strenght to prevent injury. you should read "how to survive a zombie apoc." its got some fairly good info on what exactly a zombie is. and im not talking about the hollywood zombies that have overtaken everything.

beans to berry white! i would say, to be perfectly honest, that its for the slutty female clothing. and anyone who says "if i gota stare at an ass all day..." is hiding the fact that they want to look at slutty females. theres nothing wrong with it, its perfectly normal. and im a married man. thankfully my wifes comments on the slutty females is not a negitive one.

when your dead, you should be able to hit ESC and then see the option to respawn. if you dont see a screen saying "you are dead" then your not dead.
