It's obvious we're going to get a more in-depth crafting recipes and such as the game is fleshed out, I wanted to put my two beans in on what I want in and I want to hear what y'all want/don't want too. For starters, I'd like to see tools take use in crafting. I want those rusty pliers I've been toting around to be useful dammit! Also! Pocket knives of varying types and quality. Personally, I'd think it would be ideal for fresh spawns to start with a very basic one that has it's uses limited to 1. terrible weapon that breaks easily 2. can opener that breaks easily 3. simple wood gathering tool used to gather fire wood and wooden sticks from trees, perhaps even foliage as well so you could craft your own (obviously homemade) ghillie suit if you were so inclined. Different knives could have say, a built in can opener along with those uses, or screw drivers you could use to attach a scope to a gun. Sounds simple right? It would be the bedrock of crafting if they added them. Carve wooden sticks into spears, have particular trees drop bigger branches that could be carved into clubs, which could then be studded with nails if you have them (and a hammer) etc. Of course, don't make weapons you can craft as good as axe-tier stuff though. Any thoughts?

Do fist still one hit knock someone out?
amiasfree replied to Skyelur's topic in New Player Discussion
I haven't tested it but I wouldn't think a punch could one hit KO you if you were energized and healthy, with or without a helmet. -
As long as you don't sprint at me with or without a weapon, or sneak up on me in a building then you're okay by me. If you're going hero though, I'd suggest a motorbike helmet so you don't get knocked out easily, saved me a few times from froggy freshies. Also... I'd lose the mosin and go for literally anything else, mosins are desireable, a sporter 22 or shotgun? Not so much. And nice rider's jacket, just found a worn one myself and it rooocks.

Seems to me like you were running around almost dead with a fractured leg and got one shotted by a zed, no? Edit: Ahhhh, must be somekind of invisible wall or something that noms your char, I've had a similar experience falling down a hill and glitching into a rock that killed me in the same way.

Yeah, I don't see why so many get caught up in the meaning of 'bandit'. I mean, an 'irl' bandit would most likely KoS to rob people anyways.
-
Best advice I can give is don't stay out in the open for too long, and when you are sprint with no weapons out. Also have a look at this: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/182257-the-science-of-zombies-043-zombie-guide/?hl=wobo#entry1881936

I'd really like something like that, maybe not the 'murder/nonmurder' thing, but prereqs for access to a new map would be awesome.

The dirtiest tactic i have ever seen so far
amiasfree replied to TheHuntsMan87's topic in General Discussion
Wow. 'I'll rape your mother'? Jesus, these people should be permabanned from life. -
OP, I have to say that unless you're on a 40/40 server, Coast towns are still fairly viable places to find guns. Don't look in firestations or offices if the server is crowded, but if you get a lucky spawn with those types of buildings, look around for a corner building with lots of windows, two floors and a little minicafe. For some reason, I almost always find good stuff there if a town has been picked over, usually some type of rifle and a bit of ammo.

Currently getting kicked from any server I join.
amiasfree replied to honeybooboochild's topic in Troubleshooting
Could it be a firewall blocking updates from battleeye? Seems to be something like that. Edit: I haven't had this issue myself, but I've seen players get kicked left and right for it, so I assume they had an overzealous firewall/antivirus up when there was a BE update/versioncheck. -
I don't know about adding skills and stuff where you could see it in a UI or something, but I'd love more tools that could allow us to specialize more, e.g. toolbelt + reading a carpentry book is needed to craft basic building supplies and the like, and as long as you've read that book you have that skill, though you won't be able to 'see' that you have it in a UI or something.

So much unnecessary divisiveness over game modes
amiasfree replied to real meatshield's topic in General Discussion
I reread it just for you, and it still sounds like crying because of people using intended mechanics. Don't play on 3rd person servers if you can't handle that someone could peek over a wall at you, mewling about having it 'fixed' is just petulant when you have the option to either use it as well or not play with people who use it. (not to mention you don't even have to engage someone that is holed up and would have the advantage using 3pp. Use your noggin son, lure them out into the open or don't fight them at all if you're that scared they'll 'wall peek like a scrub') Screaming and stamping your feet and saying 'yer just scrub' is brilliant btw. -
So much unnecessary divisiveness over game modes
amiasfree replied to real meatshield's topic in General Discussion
Then they should play on hardcore if they aren't willing to STAY in 3rd person the whole time. They're just shooting themselves in the foot. Why do you want a 'fix' for it (unless you mean disabling 1pp on regular so no one would be at a disadvantage)? Why can't others enjoy the game they want to play and 1pp people play the way they want on hardcore? Plenty of pvp games are like this, either use it or don't and be at a disadvantage. Or just play hardcore :beans: -
So much unnecessary divisiveness over game modes
amiasfree replied to real meatshield's topic in General Discussion
I play both, at first I was upset that people could 'cheat', but now I play regular like it was Metal Gear Solid Online. As in, only staying in 3rd person, even while shooting (unless scopes). Makes the gameplay a bit different than just first person all day erryday. -
Damn how have all of you guys found people that talk? Even friendlies I've met never spoke, even in direct chat. Kinda sad :( I don't care too much if they go around killing people based on whatever hatred they have, but the moment they say a racial epithet in game they deserve a permaban imo.

Apparently I was "speed gun hacking" ( me vs 3 fight) Video
amiasfree replied to G.Freeman's topic in Gallery
Just sore losers, not much else to say. Props on killing the crap out of them :beans: And boo on them for trying to gang up on someone. -
From watching the live stream, Dean himself actually said that more money actually 'slowed' progress because they realized they could do so much more with the new revenue. Not word for word, but it was something like that. Have faith, DayZ is one of the few good early access investments.

EDITED: Are you happy with CURRENT zombie implementation?
amiasfree replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
??? Are you being sarcastic? Because the last Cabela game I played was just awful to say the least. Have they improved since the ps2 years? On topic: Zeds are fine now, just fix path finding and add more difficulty and variation, and MORE of them. -
I've found them more than once on the roof of the new police buildings. My current gear after dropping some stuff for a newspawn and going Suicidal Hero on some cowardly KoSers in Elektro:(-a ladybug school backpack I got after I took this :beans: )
-
(Story Time) Attracted back to the coast on a 'fully geared' char, hoping to do some heroplay, I login on a 30/30 server on the eastern edge of Kamy. I make my way along the road towards Elektro, figuring I'd suicide on some bandits/KoS kiddies. Unsurprisingly, I met up with a bambi on the way, dropped my backpack for him with all kinds of goodies and we traveled a ways together. As we come up to Elektro, I tell my new buddy to loot the metal building just on the eastern outskirts of the city. Not two seconds after I say this, I hear gunshots. Scared for this guy, I pull out my magnum and fire shots into the woods where I think bandits are hiding, while telling him to run. Eventually he takes off, so I focus firing randomly into the treeline as a distraction against the hidden gunmen. A few moments go by, there is no return fire, so I follow where the Backpack Kid ran off which just so happened to be the heart of Elektro. I was 'shocked' to see another bambi right on his tail, but I didn't want to risk hitting the guy I met by taking shots at the froggy little bastard so I left them both to their fates. Coming into Elektro on a full server felt intense, I swear I heard every rifle in the game go off quite a few times. Knowing there was a mosin guy up on the sniper hill, I start to charge it until I got shot at. Steeling my resolve, I defiantly emptied three clips for my SKS onto the hill. No more sniper fire, I know I didn't get lucky, more like the guy was either out of ammo or a coward. Suddenly, some guy lights me up with an m4 from the firestation (I'm on the lower hill to the east of it just below the sniper hill), so I turn and empty my magnum at him while retreating to some bushes. I know I didn't even hit him, but the coward ran off and combat logged or something. After that, I heard no more gun fire at all. I spent the next fifteen minutes wandering around listening for gunshots, there were none. Saw a mosin guy with a no weapon guy running up the road to the dam, I was totally hidden from their sight on the eastern hill, so I decided to 'regulate' as they say and took some pot shots with my sks in their direction just to keep them headed inland. I then crawled into a tree and logged off. TL;DR Came back to coast to suicide on bandits/kos kiddies, ended up shutting down the 'PVP' in Elektro on a 30/30 server for a little bit and survived. Elektro 'bandits' are cowards the moment they have to face someone with a gun.
-
And I hope you and yours aren't as cowardly as the regular spawnkillers there, so I can actually test my accuracy instead of just cover/aggro fire. :P
-
Well... when half of them are calling themselves that and we don't have something like the mod had as in skins and such, anyone that isn't friendly or neutral is a bandit to me. I've never been held up in the 120-ish hours I've put in, seems like 'legit' banditry died off, or has become so rare that it isn't even relevant. Also sorry for not posting in Gallery at the start, figured it was for images and vids rather than stories orz.
-
Well, at first I was just shooting to draw fire to myself (sniper hill guy), the only guy I could actually see that was shooting at me was so close that I had to run and gun.
-
Aww Weedz, you're awful upset I shut down the newspawn killing. :C I only shot at those that shot at me, other than those last two, and I suspect the mosin guy was the same one that took shots at me from sniper hill. Also I wouldn't call taking pot shots to solidify my control over the NW part of Elektro, running around for five minutes, then logging off 'combat logging'. Do you really wait around for hours for people that are long gone? Also I never claimed to be good, I was scared and part of my decision to come back to the coast had to do with teaching myself how to stay calm and not be afraid of dying. I don't know why you'd say something so trollish 'just because you're bad' etc, I say I play as a hero because I ran in there to take the shots so the newspawns (mostly the guy I traveled with a bit earlier) wouldn't get KoS'd by the folks shooting like crazy. Not because... 'I'm so bad' as you say. Which I am, I wasn't able to pinpoint two of three people that were shooting at me, but... that wasn't the point. And on bandit/KoS terminology... KoSers ARE bandits now. That's what they call themselves half the time anyway. I'd love to actually get robbed though, wouldn't even care if I got executed after.

There are quite a few working street lamps, should be easy enough to tap into the still barely working power grid.
