I've noticed similar symptoms where I'll run into a large number of the SAME item (the purple backpack or a particular kind of ammo for example) very frequently in the same building/town/area while not seeing other varieties at all. However, and I don't have any proof to back this up, I don't think it has to do with a "loot generator" - because I don't think there is one. Again, just a theory, but it seems to me like the system is "list" based (so items and spawn points can be grouped into categories) and items are supposedly selected at random from the lists, but there are no limits or caps in place that prevent items from showing up more than X times. Not yet anyway. I recall mention of it happening at some point however. Does anyone have any confirmation one way or another about the particulars of the loot system - as it pertains to how rarity works and if there are indeed item spawn limits?

Most Experimental servers in US East are currently broken and hanging on "Wait for Host...". Server list shows them all with 0 players but they are listed and appear to be active. What gives? I have no idea who even runs those servers, but it would be cool if they were fixed so we have some more room for players.
-
This is interesting. Do you have any video? It would be cool to see a time lapse (speed up the footage) to see the random players scampering down the road.

I killed a few deer with a pistol but found nothing on their corpses. Is meat a random drop or where do you get it?

Ammo Calibration : Poll & Discussion
blazinone replied to stielhandgranate's topic in General Discussion
They have a point. Keep the number of types limited to preserve balance. More ammo types = more ammo spawns = players swimming in ammo (to ensure players can find enough of the type they need) Fewer ammo types = fewer ammo spawns = a good balance of realism (ammo should be available but not plentiful) -
Current ingame-time in server list partially useless?
blazinone replied to roguetrooper's topic in General Discussion
In other words, you want to know what season it is. There is a bigger in-game impact for date and season such as weather and temperature. I should see my breath in daytime in Winter. But not in Summer. Getting Wet in Summer is different than getting Wet in Winter. -
You don't need duct tape. Just combine "similar" parts by dragging one onto another in your inventory. Combine two halves to make a whole (N + S = Full map, or E + W = Full map). You can also combine "quarter" portions together to form halves (NE + NW = N map). You can't combine quarters with halves however. The in-game map would be more useful if icons for Fire Station, Police Station, Water Pump and similar were added. But right now it has value for those who get lost easily and like the immersion of staying "in-game" to navigate.

Current Zombies are "placeholders". What will final zeds look/be like?
blazinone posted a topic in General Discussion
DayZ Developer Brian Hicks is quoted as saying (in reference to feedback received so far on zombies): Video Link. The video is dated May 6th which is about 2 weeks after the last Stable update was released. What does this mean? The current zombies are just temporary and will be replaced by *something different*. Something most likely being developed by the same team working on animals. In other words, all of these could/may change: Skin/modelSoundsPathfindingAnimationsAttacks/DamageHealthThese things could be very different in the future. That may be obvious because it's still ALPHA and we should expect these things to change... But imagine the potential! *Dozens* of different zombie skins (rather than 5)Improved zombie behaviors (hoarding, feasting, shambling, wandering)Vastly different animationsA variety of new attacks -

Spawn system is temporary? Interesting. Got any info or links? I'd be interested to see what the options are... Edit: Nevermind! I thought you were referring to player spawning - Zombie spawning on the other hand, yeah, that's gotta be temporary. -
The Current State Of Development - DayZ - Understanding the Development Process
blazinone replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
Yes, great job Irish. B) While there may be one small grain of truth to what you say, for the most part, anything on Wikipedia can be relied upon (supplemented with verification of sources) thanks to a huge team of devoted volunteer editors. Back on topic.. Yes, exactly. The same group of people who won't even bother to form a complete sentence in their rage "post-and-run" about zombies walking through walls that should be reading this and won't. But...let's keep in mind that if it weren't for their wallets we might not be here. So take the good with the bad I guess. You can't compare Kiwis to Oranges. Arma III is simply a progression in a series while DayZ is a brand new concept built on a "borrowed" engine and it's an MMO to boot which creates a variety of new challenges. One huge time suck for the dev team so far has been re-writing large chunks of the engine to improve/correct networking. Once we're over that hump, the updates should flow through regularly. -
This is bad news but not the end of the world. I don't blame moderators and others doing their best to squash all the crazy rumors, as long as they keep us informed (I read some crazy ones out there). Overall, it should be easy to "hotfix" key areas and prevent a lot of the potential future cheats from happening and it will take some time for any cheats to show up in the wild - it's not like it's easy to pour over 10,000+ lines of code to find weaknesses and exploit them. Other than that it just means BattleEye will be busy banning people and BIS will be busy patching holes for a while. All in all, it MAY make the game better for it in the long run. More of these issues will be caught and patched earlier rather than later. It's better to happen now than after release.

Wait...is that Dean?? Hahaha classic. -
"You are about to leave this server but your character will remain active and visible for up to 30 seconds. Continue?" The failure to explain basic mechanics of the game to the end user has caused a lot of confusion. Confusion leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to...bad reviews. Bad reviews lead to poor sales.

Case closed. Please, tell your friends. I guess there should be an on-screen message when logging out so that people know this.

DayZ: Why Complexity Is A Good Thing
blazinone replied to iongaming33@aim.com's topic in General Discussion
Offsetting the existing Soldier and Medic styles with Engineers for fixing vehicles, Hunters and maybe Pilots would be awesome. If they added a basic agriculture system for picking flowers/herbs I could see an Herbalist type class/specialty as well. And I love the realism of the game so far, but the tricky thing is making it usable and not clunky. A few tweaks here and there and we'll be close. -
I keep trying to crack open Treasure Island or Moby Dick for a read but I don't get far before I get distracted. I do love the concept. It would be nice if you could read while maintaining "some" peripheral vision though.

I represent the "outsiders" and "lone wolves" here. This is how we do... Spawn. Run inland. Loot small town. Move on to the next. Repeat. The Orlovets, Factory, Polana, Gorka circuit is fun. Then you got the area including and around Green Mountain that's fun. Or the area to the north and west of the NWAF is cool. Bottom line: avoid PvP arenas and Military locations.

Proactive Players Creating New Layers
blazinone replied to leviathanapsu's topic in General Discussion
Organizing groups of like-minded people to establish "living" areas? Awesome idea. You'd need to first establish a physical locale so players you chose a server that is close enough to be playable. But I love the idea of organized events and several have been discussed (http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/188418-imagine-if-we-pulled-this-off-for-a-couple-of-hours-er-lol/) It seems like there are plenty of people who are willing to participate! -
Have you ever been so attached to something in DayZ it drives you batty to play your character?
blazinone replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
If you don't die, how will you ever get the chance to compile another super cool outfit? I will admit to getting a little too attached to things like speed loaders, ammo and pistols. So I know the feeling. But as hard as it may be, we just have to learn to let go. :P -
When do you expect to have an official release date?
blazinone replied to c00lface's topic in General Discussion
We won't have a date until 1st Quarter 2015. The date will be roughly 4th Quarter 2015. -
Would you like "high grade stuff" be spread more around the map?
blazinone replied to St. Jimmy's topic in General Discussion
If "GI Joe" wants to run around from airfield to airfield I say let him. I'll be around the smaller towns doing just fine. Keep military stuff where it belongs: in military areas - the only exception is for pistol magazines. Those need to be in residential areas too. -
Upstairs in a prison is a "safe spot"?   Oh that's hilarious. Thanks for that. it's hard to be sympathetic when someone decides to wander around the most dangerous place in the game and then is surprised when they get killed. You don't need to go to airfields to get weapons/ammo. If you decide to go, do so at your own risk. But I'm glad you were able to go elsewhere and have a good time for the most part.
-
I avoid Military locations so... I can never turn down a Blaze 95. Or the Sporter .22, once I find a mag for it. M4 is fantastic all around if you are brave/lucky enough to find one and enough ammo. I hate the Mosin. It's too long and has too much recoil. Most of my encounters are in close quarters.

I don't think Peggy would be too happy with you using the Lord's name like that. :P

Let's try an experiment... I'll be a survivor and put on a military vest with some canned goods, ammo, a map and a can opener in the pocketsYou pretend you're a zombie and hit me as hard as you can with your bare handsYour hands will be ruined before anything in that vestOK, that's a little extreme I admit. But all we're saying is tone it down a little. The way it stands now it's like most items are made of glass. I'm a fan of the realism too. Not many games are so bold. Just needs some tweaks that's all.
