Totally agree. I may update the topic title to reflect that. The only remnant of the old mode that I wanted to keep was the name!

It's sad isn't it? They are really forcing our hand and leaving players with little choice but to hop in some situations (like wanting a Paramedic Outfit for example). I personally don't like it and go out of my way to avoid it. But what is the "official" stance on server hopping? At one point I thought Rocket made a reference to finding helicopters on a particular server which seemed like he was advocating it.

Interesting! That's certainly a good idea. It would reduce the number of config/settings differences between the two hives which is a plus. Only problem - and I don't know all the facts - I don't know if loot tables can be adjusted between the two which would be needed to allow one hive to have less food.

Bororm, you're too smart! All great points and I agree for the most part. :beans: It would be a little hectic for them to be supporting two configuration bases while things are still being worked on. BUT...that doesn't mean we can't brainstorm some ideas to help solve the actual problem: We've got at least two different player bases and each wants something different. If not careful, the result will be a game neither side will enjoy.

Eating and drinking system - Please, just give it up.

(0.49 Stable) Test 1 Fresh spawn, outside Elektro. NO sprinting, only MINIMAL jogging. At 16 minutes: Hungry (1st stage), Thirsty (1st stage), Cold (1st stage)At 30 minutes: Starving (red), Thirsty (1st stage), Cold (1st stage)At 35 minutes I started eating. My screen was black and white by then.I ate the following (in order): Fresh OrangeSardines (~75%)Tactical Bacon (~75%)(a few minutes passed)Bottle of Water (50%)Tactical Bacon (~85%)Beans (~85%)(a few minutes later)Tactical Bacon (~85%)Sardines (~85%)Spaghetti (~85%)Green PepperStatus was still Hungry (1st stage). Results: I ate 2 days worth of food in less than an hour (no more than 55 minutes) but was still Hungry and went unconsious from blood loss after bleeding for only a short while. ------------------------------------------------ Test 2 Fresh spawn (same server) outside Berezino. Minimal sprinting, some jogging. Within minutes I ate: OrangeBox of Crunchin CrispsI was 1st stage Energized. Results: I ate only a small amount (of different food) and was Energized (1st stage, dark green) in no time. ------------------------------------------------ Both situations were ideal - daytime, low pop servers with no rain. Conslusion: Not a flippin' clue! -

I'm glad you said something so I didn't have to. I have no problem battling a bit with you or Odin Lowe (or others who make good arguments) but this guy is something else. I was ready to rip into him but it's just not worth it. Doubt he even read the thread. -

"Anyone who's done it a hundred times should have no problem doing it again". I know you have a better argument than that! Those thousand+ hours have warped your perspective. You forget what it's like to be a noob. But at any rate...I'll speak on behalf of the OP and say all we're asking is the following: Let the player live for a few hours before starving to death. Not 5 days or anything like that. But not 40 minutes either. But we need *some* time to scour at least one large city to find food AND the requisite supplies we need before dying. Give me at least one other option for starting a fire. Finding an axe is hit-or-miss. Fires existed well before modern axes did so I should be able to make a fire by snapping off a few branches and using rocks to light it. The requirement to have a wooden log before you can light a fire is excessive. Give me at least one other viable food source that doesn't require a firearm to kill and a knife/machete to skin. Goats and chickens exist but are so rare (in my findings) as to be impractical. I'd eat a corpse if I could before dying...but not in "realistic" DayZ. Can't do it. Can't even eat that chicken without a knife. I love the challenge. But like many, the undue harshness does little but frustrate. Personally, I'd love to see a more friendly Regular version with lighter requirements in these areas and then some jacked up requirements on Hardcore for all you nuts. -

All the guys saying "it's easy" to stay alive most likely have been walking around geared for a while and surely won't have much trouble "maintaining" their relatively Healthy state. As a fresh spawn, it's a different story. I've suicided and re-spawned about a dozen times in 0.49 Stable and have died of hunger/environment 8 out of 12 times. Spawning anywhere near Electro on a server that sees regular traffic will have little to no food around. There isn't enough time to make it farther inland to find un-looted areas for food and forget finding a weapon to kill a deer. I died several times with a can of food in my hand but no means to open it. And I died with a fire roaring in sight of 3 deer but no way to catch kill and skin them. Anybody who says it's easy should really try spawning fresh again. -
Any variety of boonie hat seems keep rain off of your whole body (haven't confirmed). This may be a bug. A pristine/worn Raincoat does effectively keep you dry. HOWEVER it does not keep you warm. You slowly cool off but I don't think I've ever been freezing with the Raincoat on. Cargo pants seem to be better than jeans for keeping you dry. I've had dry clothes (jogging jacket) inside a hunters backpack that ended up getting wet while the rest of me was dry.

Backpacks persistent, items in them are not!
blazinone replied to kendogalopigus's topic in General Discussion
For one, are you sure you aren't just smoking too much and "forgetting" what was in there? Wink wink.... I tested with a few loose items (ammo in boxes, machete, rags, cans of food) in a well hidden Improvised Backpack that I placed indoors and none of the items were missing when I came back 5 days later. -
Sheltering is fun. Gives me a chance to eat and stuff. Need more 24/7 Rain servers.

It certainly makes sense that markers would persist at some point. The Paper in the game can be written on with a Pen and persist between servers, so why not allow this for maps too. I'm a big fan of the in-game map and have been impressed with how accurate and current it stays - as locations are constantly being added and removed, they tend to show up right away. Even though there is no special marker for them, you can still tell where Water Pumps are (they are a very small gray square on the map, smaller than barns and sheds). And there's been discussion on what sort of markers the map should contain by default - Fire Stations, Hospitals, Police Stations, Military Locations, etc. were mentioned.

Theres no use in hanging on to the (insert weapon here) plus all the ammo you've been hoarding since it will be gone in a few days anyway. Might as well go out there and fight and work on your combat skills a little. Thats what I keep saying to myself. Let's go out with a bang right?

Do trees persist after being cut down? That would awesome. Good call. I have a B character on a different account with an M4. I'd much rather have it taken from my dead hands than just disappearing because of the wipe!"Yes we'll rally 'round the flag, boys we'll rally once again, shouting the battle cry of Freedom!"

Even worse is...I have a hacksaw taking 2 inventory slots but can't find a mosin. Found about 3 CR527 carbines though.

Gamma changing based on what you look at
blazinone replied to infiltrator's topic in General Discussion
Something like this happened to me after switching between night time and day time servers. The effect was way more pronounced than normal and would persist between log ins. Looking at the sun or sky would turn things very dark. Looking at the ground would make things very bright and it was very annoying. Resetting my Video settings seemed to fix it for me. Hope that helps. -
ROCKETS WACKY ROADMAP and PS4! what? u serius bro?

I'm no expert but I'm thinking Scottish or Australian. Either way, it was good. -
Movie theater, toy store, gun range, car lot, mini golf course, video game arcade! But then again, how many of these would be in fictional Chernarus?

Minimum Viable Gear - All you need in as few slots as possible
blazinone replied to non-orthodox's topic in General Discussion
Nix the wooden sticks, alcohol, IV kit, blood bag. You can now find sticks at a moments notice by scrounging the forest floor, or with the axe. Morphine can heal broken limbs and only takes one med slot (check in pubs houses and green kitchen houses) I've never had to transfer blood to another player so those won't be used. Also, I often ditch the handcuffs and keys too because I've never used them. Good list though! -
I agree about the immersive effects of the environment. It definitely sets the bar for me too. Playing Skyrim feels cramped to me. Barring a few open areas like around Whiterun, it's mostly composed of impossibly hilly terrain which is just a cheap trick to avoid exceedingly long view distances, thus allowing it to run on consoles. Somehow they got it right with DayZ. Many of the same view distance tricks are in place, but they aren't as noticeable. You can see for miles in some areas and it looks great. But for example, notice how out in the middle of a field you can look in the direction of a small town and there's always a treeline in your way?

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
blazinone replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
That does sound frustrating but can I suggest avoiding high danger areas until things settle down a bit? Hackers don't seem to bother with smaller towns and non-mil areas as often. Also, what area are you in? Are these American servers? European? -
I can confirm that this WAS working with GameServers.com for the past month, but then seems to have stopped when 0.47 update hit. Like others said, you can tell servers that have this enabled because they have an 'x' next to their time listing. I was able to set my "Time Multiplier" to "6" (default is 1) so that for the two hours the server is up between restarts, 12 in-game hours would pass. But after 0.47 I can't seem to make it work again. When I set it to anything other than 1, the server locks at "Wait for Host" and never comes back.

Civilian clothing items that you'd like to see in the game
blazinone replied to LeeVanSpliff's topic in General Discussion
Clowns? Hell yeah. McJobbers? Awesome idea. More authentic Russian stuff would be great. Like clerics robes, female business woman, farmer clothes, etc. I'm with you too, I'd rather see more diversity in the player clothing/aesthetics than see more shooty sticks. -
Questions about zombie spawns, behavior and suchlike
blazinone replied to robophant's topic in General Discussion
I like the idea of them just roaming around cities and being alerted by sight, sound of playes or animals. But will there be a way to declare an area as "clear" and safe to explore or party? That would be cool. And I don't think anyone likes the zeds appearing out of thin air. Maybe we can compromise and just use an animation of them rising from an underground grave classic zombie style when they need to spawn in your vicinity. -
Recently I spotted a group of guys running out of some town heading in my direction. I dropped prone in a hilly field along the road and hoped they hadn't spotted me. Turned out to be just one survivor running away from about 3 zombies who were chasing him. I realized he needed help so I equipped the Blaze rifle I had, stood up and fired off two shots taking down one of the zombies. I reloaded and shot the other two. By that time he must have freaked out or maybe he had already started to log out because he just sat down and soon disappeared in the middle of the road. In hindsight I should have alerted him first before just popping up and opening fire like that, but I was trying to help!
