DayZ 0.55 has given the sentence "the coast is clear" a true meaning
blazinone replied to Mental Burner's topic in General Discussion
Beans for clever title. On the few servers I've seen, not only is the coast clear, the entire path north is clear too. I've managed to keep eating apples but still can't get away from "Hungry". Literally no other food has been found, nor a weapon nor tools nor seeds! But thankfully the game is still a work in progress so things will be fixed/tweaked and no doubt working smooth at some point. Central hive is only JUST being implemented (10% or so). Will get better as they get more control over what spawns where and when. -
This worked for me. I had recently re-installed Windows 8 and was "in between" a few different Windows Updates and got the error after a reboot and could no longer play the game. Tried everything else including validate game files, reboot, etc. and finally gave this a shot and it worked! Thanks a lot.

There are thousands of folks who have the patience and other qualities needed to invest in an early access game and provide positive feedback in hopes things turn out well. These forums are evidence of that - lots of positive thinkers who only want the project to succeed. While the success of the mod resulted in such a huge influx of cash to the SA which is good, it also brought scores of "instant gratification" gamers who's voices are sometimes louder than the rest and that creates a lot of negative buzz which can be contagious. It's an interesting paradox - you need numbers to buy time to create a good product but the more time it takes the more impatient people seem to get. Personally I agree with you...things do seem to be moving in the right direction. I'm glad they(the devs) are taking security seriously and it makes me realize how much they care about making a great experience for us all.

Sensibility? Patience? Support? Modern gamers crave not these things.

You can't say it didn't make your heart race a little and give you quite a rush for a few minutes as you stared at the bleak "You are dead" message. Fortunately or not, "player hunting" is considered a sport by some and just one of the facts of the game. Always keep one eye open and be prepared to defend yourself.

Never found any stashes myself but I love the idea of your crew and this other crew sharing the same server/space. In my experience way too many people hop around from server to server which takes something away from the experience IMO. There are lots of possibilities that arise from sticking to one server including running into each other at some point which could result in tense stand-off situations rather than the typical shoot-on-sight scenario. Not to mention, like you said, leaving notes around and claiming territory for your side and defending it from intruders.

Can anyone explain how to know if I will keep my character if i server Hop?
blazinone replied to acekaze's topic in General Discussion
To be fair, the term "server hopping" does generally imply loot farming and is widely frowned upon. Using a term like "switching servers" would probably be what you are looking for. This is something that happens when the server you are on restarts or when you want to go join a friend, etc. Also, for what it's worth the best advice for keeping your character between server switches would be to wait and be patient. Once you leave Server A, just wait a few minutes before you try and join Server B. If you switch too quickly it's possible that the hive thinks you are on Server A and therefore creates a duplicate fresh character on Server B out of confusion. This is just a theory however. And finally there are already plenty of topics that clearly describe what Persistence means...feel free to search the forum. -
I'm a loot fanatic but I avoid military areas like the plague. Hearing about how seriously some guys take "mil looting" makes me want to camp out some barracks and see who pops up in my crosshairs. ;) In terms of civilian loot, clearly magazines are very rare. Junk yards (scrap yards) are actually a good place to find guns/bags/food/mags lately. For those who aren't familiar, there's one in Berezino in the south west corner. Just a yard full of junked pickup trucks. There's one near the eastern outskirts of Cernaya Polana too that has a few military trucks as well. Not sure where the others (if any) are. Other than that, Press and Stab vests seem to be rare anymore in non-military areas. They used to be findable but not since they took away the static police cars and/or changed what buildings they spawn in. Military vests can occasionally be found in the open barns with two sets of stairs.

How was everyone's DayZ Christmas?
blazinone replied to IReadTheAgreement's topic in General Discussion
It was great. After weeks of trying to get a Sporter 22 plus mag(s) and ammo again (while avoiding military locations), I actually found a 30-round magazine under the Christmas Tree in one town. Shortly thereafter I found a box of .22 ammo and a Sporter sitting right next to each other outside a piano house. Someone who may or may not be named Santa apparently left them there for me. -
I spawned in fresh and managed to get murdered three times in about an hour on one server. I was friendly each time and dressed like a Bambi and even tried to talk but still three jokers felt the need to kill me for my empty backpack. I think once more zombies are in people will have something else to shoot.

My character returned. Most servers (that are up) seem full. Playing fine for now.

This is the best way to look at it. Even after Alpha and Beta phase this rule will apply - you could lose everything at any time.

Anyone feeling nostalgia for 0.26-0.30 DayZ version?
blazinone replied to kakysas666's topic in General Discussion
Well, not everyone bought the game on day one. I think my nostalgia is right around 0.36 or so...but pretty close. It does seem like a different game now. -

Can someone explain how loot spawn/respawn works?
blazinone replied to shokaloop's topic in General Discussion
The actual workings are being kept vague to limit exploiting the system, but the basics are that as items are picked up other items may appear at other locations on the same server. The main goal is to maintain a consistent amount of loot across the map at all times in accordance with the "loot economy", which is designed to prevent too many of a given item from appearing on any one server. Right now, the difference between Persistence On servers and their counterparts, as mentioned, is that Persistence On servers will constantly respawn items while they are running and you will see little change in quantities of loot after restarts because all existing items will persist (stay where they are) across the restart, whereas Persistence Off servers will only produce new items during their scheduled restarts and, more importantly, items left on the ground will disappear after the restart. There are bugs currently in 0.51 where certain areas are being flooded with loot while other areas seem to be picked clean (i.e. items are respawning but not in the areas where they are needed) and I don't know if this is specific to one type of server or another or both. I saw this in Solnichniy just last night on a Persistence enabled server. -
Ouch, I feel your pain. Even after hundreds of hours things like that get me too. Most recently I was on top of a building carrying a second rifle in my hands. I knew trying to carry it down wouldn't end well so I decided to be smart and "throw" the second rifle off the roof and onto the ground before taking the ladder down. Unfortunately I did a two-step right off the edge of the roof while throwing and ended up falling to my death. But, I take it as a sign that it's time to move on and start anew!

I've seen more players at the small military base south of NWAF than anywhere else in recent weeks. That *could have* been due to the loot glitching that has since been resolved though.

I'd Like to Share an Experience That I Had
blazinone replied to SneakadyBug's topic in New Player Discussion
LOL at "rolling down the street". I can just picture the poor broken leg fellow who thought he was about to be put out of his misery, still rolling along. -
Actually, there are hundreds of thousands of very happy Survivors playing DayZ Standalone every day. I think the problem is, you are reading the forums where a vocal minority are expressing dissatisfaction with a few issues here and there and it can seem like the problems are bigger and more impactful than they really are. The game is moving along well and the developers are committed to improving the game and adding content continually. If you aren't sure about it, don't buy it yet. The game isn't going to disappear any time soon, so just wait until more updates are released and when you are sure you must have it, then buy it (but it will cost more later).

A few friendly comments: Better comms could have saved your mate. Being more explicit about where you were and what you were doing, and literaly watching each other's back would have helped.Your FOV combined with how you have the camera always pointed towards the ground makes this hard to watch at times.Would have been nice if you edited out or fast-forwarded through the slower parts where nothing was happening. Or at least you could have provided some additional commentary over top of what you recorded in-game to provide some feedback as to what you were trying to do. It wasn't clear why you were just standing behind a bush and seemingly waiting to be flanked.I guess it worked out OK in the end though. B)

One shot and DOWN! But you should have bugged out once you dropped the first guy.

Problem: What role should Survival and Realism play in DayZ? Some players prefer realism and want a very challenging experience which few other games offer. Some prefer practicality along with realism. Some want to be able play both ways depending on their mood. Solution: Take what we have currently - with a few tweaks - as Regular and then make some settings changes to create a real "Hardcore" experience that is more challenging for the player. Regular Reasonable Fatigue systemReasonable Hunger/Thirst needsReasonable Environmental/Weather effectsReasonable Healing (quick healing from fratures and from blood loss)Slower item degradation?? Hardcore Increased rate of fatigue - player gets winded more quickly, experiences more effects from fatigueIncreased primary needs - player needs to eat and drink more often and/or more quantities of eachIncreased environmental effects - More shaking when cold, increased chance of disease, etc.Slow Healing - Player can't splint/fix broken bones instantly and player walks at reduced pace or with a limp until healing is completeItems degrade more quickly - knives and axes need regular sharpening, guns need routine cleaning?? What else can be tweaked to make us all happy? Note: The author is NO WAY saying that any of these systems should be REMOVED. These are merely "game settings" changes between the two Hives two satisfy two very different populations.

The only problem I can see with forcing 1st person perspective is some players, myself included, find that view rather nauseating after awhile. It makes my stomach hurt because of all the camera shaking and movement. I play on a 32" monitor (TV screen) about a foot or two from my face and I find the smoothness of 3rd person much easier to handle during longer sessions. It has nothing to do with wanting easy mode, it's just physically not very comfortable to play.
