I'm pretty sure I can give you a wrench and a lot of time and you can't repair or fly a helicopter. No power and no Google in the apocalypse. (That is unless you are an aviation mechanic and trained pilot). You try and fly a helicopter untrained for the first time, you'll likely never leave the ground, or die. If there was respawning irl - your second, third, and tenth time would be the same. This isn't driving a car or riding a bike - where a majority of people know how to do these things. Your reality just isn't syncing with mine. It doesn't fit in this game. Arma? Yes. A survival game (SA)? No.

Anything that drives server hopping for gear breaks the game. I can picture empty servers barren of loot as a fresh spawn, with helo sweeps of the beach. Just not what I bought the game for and not realistic to how the apocalypse would play out obviously. Helo's don't fit this storyline. We aren't the 'army fighting off the apocalypse' - we are survivors carving out our way in the apocalypsei. Extremely unlikely that a helo pilot in 225k area makes it as survivor when the crap hits the fan - much less that anyone can 'teach themselves' how to fix AND fly one. I just think this takes the game in the wrong direction for these reasons.

If true, this is more game breaking than zombies that walk through walls. I'll likely move on when/if this becomes the direction of this game. Sure hope that's not the case, but will keep an eye out for development updates on this.
-
Ied's, yes. Helo's - lord I hope not... Even if they are ultra rare, there will be numerous ones each game due to server hopping, etc. leave this level of weaponry to Arma, it doesn't belong in a survival game after the apocalypse. In the real world, you don't get a helo pilot certification by eating a can of beans...

We'll agree there needs to be balance - what role each player chooses, at any given moment, is entirely up to them. It's in the developers hands to create environmental threats that drives a natural balance. Not an easy task - but I'm hopeful.

Does Dayz Standalone have the worst zombies in any game ?
makomachine replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
Some of the worst, if not the worst, at this stage of development. They've been tweaked this latest patch to get to threat levels, which obviously accomplished that, but still have work to be done here. That's why they have a team working on them specifically going forward. It's early.... -
I must have missed the 'hero' purpose to the game - as it was designed to be. Here I thought it was a sandbox survival game post infection. Where do I find the white cowboy hat along with the rules?

I've been debating the leaving of written communications in my backpack (for the people that kill me) and at locations for fun - along with some practical usage. As example, you could post here for a trade - and then leave written instructions at destination asking the user to confirm identity while still at some distance. (I.e. Agreed to a head bob right twice in thread - note specifies you are watching at a distance, please use confirmation sign). My question to you all is do you even read them? And if so, do you also use them? If so, how? Just getting some input for my motivation in picking up pen and paper.

Do bandits really exist on DayZ Standalone?
makomachine replied to TheModernGamer94's topic in General Discussion
I'm a lurker on the fringe as well. Just a few minutes ago I was doing something I rarely do... Looting the NEAF, trying to find that darn Amphibia mag. (Never found one and carrying the pistol for days) I really want to have it when hunting comes into play! Anyway, as I usually avoid the high traffic/deathmatch areas, I was ultra careful scouting it out in advance from range with an LRS. No activity for over 10 minutes. Creeped up to the ATC, skirting the hangers, no magazine. As I walk out, I see another player running my way behind the hangers. Try and turn the corner around the building and get shot in the legs (he was a really bad shot as I was maybe 20m away). I skirt the building, bandage (thankfully legs weren't broken), quickly check my FNX to insure its ok, and then check the servers. A player had logged out - skirt the building, check the stairwell and doorway, nobody - apparently he was the one who logged. I run like the devil for the hills. Once I get there I assess my situation and find the Amphibia and my pants are ruined. Let that be a lesson to me for not following my own rules! Still kicking, and wiser for the experience. (He was going to get some .45 bullets from me if he hadn't logged however... :)) -
I think that is a great idea - as I've passed by a few and said "not likely" when if I had known they were used/written, I definitely would have picked them up. I also think it would be cool if we could use the useless duct tape in the game and tape them to things like doors. People would definitely read them, or run away, depending on how jumpy they are! :)

Do bandits really exist on DayZ Standalone?

In real life people don't wear t-shirts that declare them 'good guys' and 'bad guys'. When the feces hits the fan, we'll all be doing things that make us question our moral boundaries - and likely expanding them. Right now, it's a giant deathmatch of boredom - but I'm hoping soon it parallels the real world desperation of 'needing others to survive but never completely trusting anyone'. Survival pressures will create the third enemy that doesn't exist at this moment - at least that's my hope. -
To whomever was running around elektro blasting Jungle Boogie

Oh the joys of a good sandbox! So glad these moments can be had! -
Pulse Rifle Blow Torch Motion tracker Ripley on my 6

Hilarious... I'm guessing he either tells the story all the time, or never acknowledged it happened! I'm hopeful my killer got the same 'wtf?' moment...

+1 for SCIENCE VIDEO!

Just south of the debug zone.... :) I believe it's far enough from Russia to sustain a different weather pattern. I'm hopeful we'll see seasonal changes as well someday! Who wouldn't want to follow a blood trail through the woods on a snowy day!?!
-
I'm guessing chills were had, if they actually read it - but that's the question, did someone take the time....
-
I ran around with an empty backpack, other than a note, that read "I'm what you call a waste of ammunition - enjoy the reload!" Once but wasn't able to get my killers reaction after the "You are Dead". I've never stumbled on a written note, but I keep checking. Been trying to come up with some both funny and practical ideas for it as I think it would be cool.

Anyone actually enjoying the game more at the mo?
makomachine replied to Jonah_Hobbes's topic in General Discussion
I'm liking it better with each release. I've used the hoe and will pick it up in a heartbeat if I don't have a fire axe. -
I'm just saying that if your focus is guns, you likely should look elsewhere - at least for a while. Lots of survival and core game mechanics needing worked on and there are better games for guns already out. Might try breaking point mod, if zombies are an interest as well - and lots of guns too.
-
To be honest, I'd stick with a game like Arma 3 based on what I'm getting out of your post. Lots of concerns around things that will likely (hopefully) never be in DayZ. More guns, less survival sounds more like what you are looking for and it's a released game, not prerelease.

How do you get out of the super slow walk?
makomachine replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
If you are in hardcore or FPS view, also hit q or e. If you accidently double tap those it sticks and I've had that happen to when I'm outdoors and didn't realize I was leaning! :) Hablam beat me to it... -
Not sure if that's the pervy one or not, but it's a close second for me. :)

player characters are too fat for an apocalipse

Red dreads are hot - especially when you can wield a fire axe. -
