will the bow and crossbow be a primery
makomachine replied to hamzzzzzy's topic in General Discussion
Anybody that has ever killed a deer with a crossbow will tell you - there isn't any 'yanking an arrow' out of a skull or big bone. Just wouldn't happen period. Also, reload times on a crossbow drawing 125 lbs., are a lot slower than just grab the string and yank. Crossbow is a one shot weapon in a survival situation - its also bulkier than it looks and would be a pain to tote around. Not hating on Daryl, as he's one of my favorites, just saying it isn't realistic. A fine longbow, recurve, or Turkish bow on the other hand is a different story. You can get quite good with that weapon up close and shoot small objects while moving with some practice. No need to aim - just look where you want to shoot, draw, and release. Its beautiful really... in a wickedly destructive way... -
Running with a zig zag inspired by LSD
makomachine replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
If on LSD, he'd realize that he doesn't need to dodge bullets... I've been known to run the crazy man's run - usually when I know I'm being hunted though... -

I'm just trying to save people grief if they stumble into the crossbow version of clip vs magazine. It's a heated topic at times - call them sharp pointy sticks as far as I'm concerned! :) -
will the bow and crossbow be a primery

I don't want to get in a semantics debate, but for those that don't know, crossbows in the modern era shoot arrows, not bolts. -
will the bow and crossbow be a primery

It's not target shooting for sure, but the end shows the arrow impacts and I'd take it in a fire fight! -
will the bow and crossbow be a primery
makomachine replied to hamzzzzzy's topic in General Discussion
Crossbow should be a primary and quiver should be its own storage device outside of backpack. Owned several for hunting and nothing small, light, or super quiet about a crossbow. The bow could be a secondary and should be quieter. I hope it's faster to reload than the crossbow and also quieter. I have to change my character to a girl if that happens. This would be region appropriate! -

AKM lead off Q3 slide -'think they'll be earlier based on roadmap presentation -
Likely a glitch as I've had them attack me prone on several occasions.

Will We Ever Be Able To Have At Least 40 FPS In Cities and Everywhere
makomachine replied to 360Nation's topic in General Discussion
Kind of an apples to asparagus comparison. BF4 draw distance isn't anywhere close to what this game is pumping out. I get wanting more FPS, but this isn't a FPS first, so I'm not really getting the angst of chasing 60FPS everywhere. WHen its optimized it will be better - hopefully 64 bit will help in the final game as well... -
@Dean Hall, you didn't touch much on character customization!
makomachine replied to extremenuggets's topic in General Discussion
That's exactly what I was thinking as reference as well. -
So you are crawling up to a zombie and while right in front of it, it isn't recognizing you?

If its just your facial likeness - a sliding scale with some hair and facial differences is enough. You get into importing your own pic, I'm certain that can have a pretty dynamic impact on performance. Lesser priority for me personally. That said, I agree that being concerned about 'inappropriate' pictures is probably the least of the problem. Who wants to run around looking at their willie for hours on end? -
Fantastic news wind will affect bullets
makomachine replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
Quite a bit to like in that presentation - and this, along with many other things, shows the team is still focusing on a survivor game based in as much reality as possible. (While remaining fun - their line to walk) I can already see the threads now 'complaining' about how 'inaccurate' my mosin is now post the patch. Every step forward is going to leave someone unhappy with the result.... -
I highly suggest watching Dean run through the timeline for development. Its enough to give one hope for Q2 and beyond, IMO. http://www.twitch.tv/egx/c/3967056

You shooting at me? Time to return that favor... See someone else - monitor and observe - avoid conflict as much as possible Approached by someone else - talk first, confirm intent, stay wary and alert - engage only when engaged/threatened

Would you like DayZ on Console?
makomachine replied to GhostSlayer (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Got a custom built PC (i7 4770K/780Ti) and an Xbox One. Each has their purpose and their strengths. This game is just not meant for the console environment - at least not this generation anyway. Whatever would be implemented will water down the experience and take away some of the things that are so cool about it. -
Finally was able to watch it and agree 100%. Very promising update and builds a lot of confidence that we will see an outstanding product when we get to end of development. Very confidence inspiring and recommend everyone watch it if you haven't. http://www.twitch.tv/egx/c/3967056 Highlights: Guaranteed messaging Respawning loot Accelerated time possible (server side) Throwable items (code already running in background) Whole new system for player controls (Arma 3 developer working it) Q2 (short term) Ragdoll (incl dragging bodies, falling, blending body injuries) AI pathfinding - first iteration nearly complete - sometime in Q2 for stable 64-bit - initially server side Prototype Animals - 6 new types Persistent Objects - experimenting with everything saving Advanced weather effects - snow falling (not on ground) and fog World containers Q3 (medium term) AKM Multi thread / multi core Advanced animals - bears, dogs, wolves, etc. New Zombie Behavior - especially stealth Centralize Loot Economy Barricading - existing structures/ persistent server Basic vehicles - bicycle, motorcycle,a tv, maybe small car Modding support - probably tied with private hives along with steamworks support Player statistics (server generated) Horticulture - prototype likely earlier, actually be able to plant and harvest Q4 & beyond Advanced vehicles (incl the maligned/loved helo) Advanced animals - horses and animal husbandry Advanced social mechanics - faction identification methods (make your own armbands, etc), better UI for trading, spawn systems tied to controlled locations

Sorry mate - you just don't get the thrill of the apocalypse. When is it ok to kill someone? When you are starving and they have a can of beans? When you are afraid because someone is armed? When shot at first? When robbed at gun point? When they have a backpack cooler than yours? When you see someone else shooting another person and don't know why? You just don't get it mate. There is no black and white, and everyone's morality as defined today will be tested. Defining positive actions and negative actions with this environment is hardly 'good guys vs bad guys' - do you even play this game? That's part of the thrill of the human encounter - not a checkbox of 'yep, bad guy skin, time to blast them'...Although this is a topic already talked about in other threads - will refrain further as it's not the topic at hand...
-
This crosses into other things I don't want this game doing. No good guys against bad guys for me thanks. We have thousands of games with Team A against Team B - why are we trying to make this into that? Open world apocalyptic survival game - please leave it this way BI!
-
You lost me, and then you brought me back. :). If I can't have a true survival game, then this is my second choice!

Now, now Irish - while we agree on the resourcefulness and resilience of man, I think you may have over reached here. I can put a caveman in a helicopter and he'll never fly it. We didn't build a fire, then a car, then a space shuttle. You are missing the dots along the way that build on each other. Just wouldn't be time in an apocalypse to do those steps. Reminds me of something I heard a long time ago around evolution. Some people argue that birds came from dinosaurs. No matter how many lizards you throw off of a sky rise building, they won't ever fly... Progress and evolution of man is iterative - and this seems beyond what would happen to joe blow apocalypse survivor.

While I got a good laugh at this, along with a few "wut?" moments, I think you oversold your point sparky. I can learn to shoot a rifle accurately in real life - along with my wife - as we've done that with no formal training at all. Not quite the same as the "oh shit, here comes the ground experience" if we were to take it upon ourselves to helo jack the closest news helicopter. Your other points were nice and silly, but a bit far off the mark as it relates to this topic...

I need to watch it then and trust things aren't being spoken to clearly here. Not where I can do that at the moment but will take a breathe and review as soon as I can. Your post makes me feel a bit better that I missed something in translation...
